Was he right? He was so right. Neptune Bott's desk was OVER THE TOP. Always. In everything.

Pause...

"Raidho for reconnecting when... when you lose your way, when you're trying to figure things out."

Err. hand up.

"To go into the desk to reconnect with the runes and all if you forget what you're doing and mess things up."

"And I dare you to come over here and try, James Sacheverell Wilkes, to add a rune to my desk." That was NOT over the top, thank you very much, " You have you OWN desk to worry about so worry about it. And WHILE you're at it, go ahead and add Ansuz to your desk."

Neptune's face crumpled, all her features, her posture. She didn't want to lose, or give up, or show that she... wanted to .. figure the desk out...

It just didn't work that way. Desks were dumb.

"For your communication and signals and lack of wise decisions. "

She threw a hand up... to cover that whole bit.

"Certainly what you carve the rune into has some bearing on the magic, so it would make sense for the shape of what you carve the rune symbol into to have some bearing in a magical sense at least."

As for everyone else.

"I know that some of the concepts are hard to get your mind around. But we'll begin now by opening our books to chapter five." He waited for the books to open and then continued.

"The twenty four runes of the Elder Futhark are listed here, along with a few magical and divinatory meanings associated with each one. The tables you are sitting at are each made of wood and I think are rather bare. So today we're going to choose runes to carve into the tables, based on the magical associations of each rune, and activate the magic of each one, hopefully to provide beneficial effects on your learning."

Yes. They'd be carving up the furniture.

"So take a look at the list. What kind of runes do you think would be good to carve into a desk that you do schoolwork on? What kind of effects would you think might be beneficial? Put your hand up if you can see one here, and do feel free to think outside the box, there is a lot of opportunity for that. You're welcome to say a rune someone else has said, but do try to share a different magical association to that rune as well as why you think it'd be
useful."

ooc: be creative, go ahead and say as many runes as you want, as long as your character can say why they think it'd be beneficial to be on a school desk/table.

The professor had presented a question that had quite a complicated answer, especially since it meant he'd be carving up the furniture, but Derian had done what he said: to think outside the box. Still, his answer would have him carving for the entire class.

"Professor, I have decided that a blend of fourteen runes should be sufficient to create the best desk to study on. For starters, I would want Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, and Wunjo because they all seem to underscore the basic concepts of what learning entails--understanding, focus, wisdom and success, seeing a larger perspective as well as change, and motivation. But I would also want Jera for growth, Eihwaz for transformation (since my mind will hopefully be transformed by knowledge), and Sowilo for success again. And then, finally, I would want Tiwaz for analysis, Ehwaz for communication, Mannaz for creation and intelligence, Ingwaz for common sense, Dagaz for awareness and the awakening of knowledge, and Othala for acquisition."

Derian took a deep breath and looked up at the professor. He felt as though he had never spoken so much in his entire life, but he wanted the best study desk in the room and he felt these runes would give that to him.

Heather looked over at Derian and smiled. I only picked out a hand full of those. Hmmm.. He's pretty smart. Oh well, she was still proud of her answer even if it wasn't as good as his.

Sabel couldn't help but smile and shake his head a little at the exchange going between Neptune and James; there was rarely a dull moment in any situation with Neptune Bott. "What about Thurisaz, which helps to decrease negative thoughts that are usually found around the aspects of work or studying." Because every student had them when they got tired of looking at pages after pages of work. [b]"And it helps block distractions." Cough, rune wars. "And Uruz, for bravery to actually start the task." Because there was bravery behind motivation. "And energy to complete it." Or to endure the banter of one's neighbours, whichever worked.

A slight frown touched his lips at James asking permission to leave and his smile faded. Perhaps the banter was indicative of something more. Still, the runes he chose held and he decided to focus on his textbook rather than stick his nose where it didn't belong.

"No," Neptune put her hand up. "Wait. You.." love Runes. Jim loved Runes. "I'll be quiet. Or. You could just be quiet, Jim." That. "I can go instead." If that.. was how it had to be.

And it probably was how it had to be.

The1HBIC 01-11-2011 02:11 AM

Marie sat there in a state of utter confusion. One because this class just confused her to no end, even with the extra tutoring she was getting from Jimmy and two, because she had NO clue what was going on with him and that Neptune girl.

Looking back and forth between them she had a sinking feeling there was more than a class discussion going on there with those two. This was more on a personal matter it seemed to her. Or maybe she was just reading too much into it... or not.

Her desk... he had carved it up before? What in the name of Merlin was that supposed to mean? And now he wanted to leave class. A class she KNEW he excelled at... since he had told her himself.

O__O

Now Neptune is saying she would go instead? Okay now Marie knew there was something going on there.

Raising her hand but looking at Jimmy instead of the professor she said, "I think my desk will need Perthro because I am totally confused here and have no clue what the meaning of all this is."

Oh she would have questions fro Jimmy later, that was for sure.

"Apparently it can be used as a shield or protection, which might be good in the face of trying new magic and it going wrong. Save damaging the furniture or other people..." He might have been thinking of himself at that point. Ahem. "The channelling energies definition might also help in getting things focused and therefore correct?"

"I particularly like the channelling energies suggestion."

Well, that was sort of contradictory. She raised her hand. "Professor, I think Thurisaz would be a beneficial rune. Its meaning involves focus and study aid and other things a student would want or need to do well in class. Although on the other hand, it has some scary divination meanings, like hardship. Does that affect its usefulness on a school desk?"

"Thurisaz is good. And most of the runes have some... less positive meanings. However, when we invoke their magic, we focus on specific meanings, specific magical associations, so not all the meanings or magical associations will necessarily be in effect at once."

EPIC!

Jim was so pleased with this that he grinned at Lexi and raised his hand to answer, without bothering to open his textbook.

"Ansuz for communication, and Ehwaz for the same thing. They'd be stronger in ligature too since Ehwaz would support Ansuz enough to strengthen it's meaning and a lot of Rune stuff is about communication anyway. It might help people... er... me, get it."

"Yes those two work well in Ligature."

Right? Maybe. "Plus wise decisions not only help with, not fooling around when you should be doing schoolwork, but it could also help with putting more detailed and thought out answers into your work as well instead of getting it done as quickly as possible."

"Wunjo can definitely help considering it's the rune of success, motivation, completion of tasks, and joy." Oh the joy of schoolwork. "Success is pretty self explanatory, everyone wants to be successful with the work they do...but I don't know anyone who doesn't need motivation sometimes to get their work done. And to actually be happy doing it too." Because schoolwork, was terribly boring.

She wanted to carve stuff though! Carve...into...wood. Stuff!

Definitely. And beneficial to herself.

"But I think I'll go with Mannaz. If this is to be MY rune, on my MY table, to better MY Runic knowledge, then Mannaz it is. Intelligence and forethought."

Sounded very Ravenclaw indeed.

Cause who doesn't enjoy the satisfy feeling of completing something!" Patroclus was stubborn when it came to get jobs down, so this Rune was perfect for him.

From the time she was younger Selina learned that failure and disasters were natural and part of the learning experience.

She raised her hand and answered just that, "Professor, what about the raidho and the haglaz? One signifies the journey and don't we all go through a journey in school that perfects our person? And the haglaz is a trial or destruction. In school don't we all learn from our mistakes? Isn't that what learning is?" Selina asked.

Of course she was not sure if his question was even rhetorical so when she was done she blushed from her embarrassment.

"Thats true. Raidho and Hagalaz are good choices for those very reasons as well as a few others. Good thinking."

"communication, a revealing message, and justice; they're all what education interfers in; Like the way people and creatures communicate with each other. Mia looked through her text book and found a couple of runes she thought would be helpful and raised her hand in the air. Trixie opened up her text book to the fifth chapter, eying it momentarily before relaxing over what the subject was about. It just listed the Runes, the Elder Futhark Runes to be exact. Well that wasn't too bad then was it.

But then a question was being proposed, which Runes would be useful to carve on your desk? Surely there were a lot nicer things that could be carved on there? Anyway, there was a question to be answered. The Head Girl raised her hand high after glancing briefly over the page. "I think the most important one on here would be the Kenaz Rune. For me, Wisdom is key in life, to progress and everything, and seeing as it symbolises insight as well, its two in one really" she stated. Cos you know, not EVERYONE was a Ravenclaw and had natural knowledge, we needed to gain it somewhere. "But i'd also say Wunjo as well, because its about achieving your goals, and whilst we're in school, our goals are to do well and progress when we leave. By having this rune carved into there, I feel that we'd be able to work better..." Yeah she was talking a load of rubbish.

The Blonde briefly glanced around the classroom, only to spot someone hiding at the back. Her eyes fell on him and then down to the chair next to her. She signaled with her head for him to come over, and join her. She knew that out of any of the classes, this would be the one he'd be most confused in.

"Kenaz and Wunjo. Very positive runes for our purposes. Good thoughts, Trixie."

Maybe this rune could help us understand the runes themselves better since for some of us they are a mystery. Also, it could pertain to joy and fellowship. It could help us work together with our classmates

"Thats very true. Acknowledging that something is a mystery is often the first step towards understanding it."

"Also Tiwaz.. represents strength and discipline.. victory in competition. They're all traits useful to learning and succeeding. Pretty apt for in the classroom."

"The first one that comes to mind, possibly because it's the first on the page, is Fehu," Jake said, having to try a few different pronunciations before he said it. "It's simple, really. It's a lot about money, and hard work paying off. You work in school to eventually earn money, so it does link."

The young man slid his finger down the page before speaking again.

"Thurisaz... well, it's obvious why. It even says study aid and I think it's rare for people not to need help with focus," he smiled knowingly. Because he KNEW he always had focus issues.

"Wunjo... well, because school is about completing tasks and everyone knows you need motivation to work, right? This one would probably give you the boost to do so... hmmm..."

With a glance up at Truebridge, Jake spoke carefully. "I'll give you two more, because that makes five, and all." And he liiiiiked the number five. "Sowilo! Success! It's self-explanatory but you know, most people do like to succeed in school."

Most.

"And finally..." Jake scanned the pictures of runes until he found the one he was looking for. Because yes, he'd memorised them in the past. It was better to look at pictures when you were him. Finally, he picked a nice interesting one and tapped on it in finality. "Dagaz. The whole breakthrough part just... goes with schoolwork. The feeling when you are studying and you suddenly get a breakthrough and understand something... is amazing. This one is also about a positive outcome and stuff." Durrrr, obvious. "And considering this activity, a positive outcome in the studying is what we're aiming for."

Jake leant back in his chair and rubbed at a sore are behind his ear where his sunglasses clung to his head. He should take them off... and probably could.

Later.

He had a feeling there might be groupwork, though.

"From the amount people are saying there clearly are loads, some that stick out more than these to me as well... but hey, I preferred to say these."

And stop at number five.

"Good answers all five." Truebridge answered, without batting an eyelid. "And yes we certainly want a postive outcome."

"all very positive. Good idea."

With the mix of positive energy, success, knowledge and wisdom they would aid us not only this class but every class, immensely."

Truebridge listened to the two students and nodded.

"Good answers, good choices, however there is a consideration when you are using more than a single rune. As they are on their own they are very appropriate, but when adding runes together in a string, it is important to be sure none of the meanings and magical symbolism are contradictory or they may cancel each other out and the intent will be muddied. It is an art form to successfully combine longer strings of runes."

"Right, those are some good suggestions." Truebridge agreed.

"Yes. It could be." Truebridge answered.

...

"I suppose they can be frustrating for those who have not spent much time learning them."

That was... going a bit far. Love and desire? Of runes?

"I suppose if... you really hated runes you might use Berkano to lessen that feeling."

....

Alright. The two Ravenclaws? Had lost him.

"... some... creative suggestions." And clearly... clearly this was not simply a case of two Ravenclaws trying to give answers in class.

WHY was it always the Ravenclaws? He wasn't completely oblivious to the growing tension. It was not welcome that was for certain.

"Yes James you can leave. However, you can also have an essay on my desk first thing tomorrow morning explaining why disrupting my lesson is not a good idea. I want it correctly transcribed into runic and I want you to do your research AND cite your sources. If you don't, I believe I'll have ten of your house points, and a weekend detention with you." He paused. "And will you be joining him, Neptune?"

He turned his attention to the class itself.

"We're going to get started on the carving. There are two ways to carve runes and to make them magical. One is with your wand, and one is without. Does anyone have a preference as to which they'd like to learn, or would you perhaps like to hear both and choose which you'd like to do?"

<snip>

"Some of you mentioned the 'runic alphabet'. While I don't mind this term, and on occasion may use it myself, it is worth noting that it is not an entirely correct term. While it is reasonable to compare a rune to a letter, strictly speaking runes are not an alphabet. Alphabet is a term for the latin based alphabet which we use, 'A B C.." and so forth, based on the names of the first two letters in Latin, Alpha and Beta. The equivalent term for the Runes we will be focusing this term on is 'futhark' and for much the same reason. The first six runes make up the name 'futhark.'"

The book in front of you is an introductory book only." Truebridge continued. "It summarises and introduces but that is all. The intent is to provide direction for your future research, and indeed for your homework assignments. This textbook is simply a guide, it is up to you to find a path, just like Runes themselves indicate the changing journey and not the final destination. You may of course use any textbooks you like as reference, but do be sure to credit your sources."

He looked around. "So for today, I suggest we skip the 'boring' stuff - you can do that for homework." Ethan Truebridge of course, never found anything truly boring, but his mind was rather different to most. "Instead we're going to make magic." He waited for the class to absorb that.

ooc: please read the Code of Conduct and refresh yourselves on the rules. Points losses will happen if there are more after this point ;)

I'm working on the next post now... running out of words in this one.

Salander started to raise his head to nod then stopped, instead tilting his head. "Mooncalf dung and chocolates...that'd work really?" He paused then added "Is that because they got the same color?"

He had to ask.....

And he winced at the second part a bit. Everybody tells him 'be nice to the Whomping Willow'. Nobody says 'be nice to Salander'. Preferential treatment thats what it was. And this Slytherin lad aint givin' it nuthin'.

The next thing the Professor says pushed all the dung-like chocolate out of his head because they were gonna be carving up the furniture! Perhaps for the first time ever Salander eagerly opened up a book and looked into the Runes list. They should seem familiar to the him now, but after a few seconds his eyes glazed over and the runes and the words started to just mix together. He looked back up at the Professor and raised his hand "Uhrmm.... The Tiwaz rune..... because it looks like an arrow pointing up and thats kinda where I want my grades to go."

Not to mention its heck easy to carve an arrow. he does it all the time

Satine was speechless and was pretty sure she was going to have whiplash from watching the dialog/rune war between Jim and Neptune....it was like an intense Tennis Match going on in the classroom... Then she was even more speechless that the Professor only really punished one of them..I mean she was grateful. She didn't want Ravvie loosing all those points but still it wasn't all Jim's fault...was it? ....she pushed the thought out of her head and focused back on the Professor with the rune war still in the back of her head...mental note if you ever need help with runes contact one of those two...not that Satine ever would... but you know...

Satine raised her hand, "Well sir it depends on which one is more effective or which one works fastest...." she said almost in the form of a question....as she finished her answer she had a thought...yes she would find Jim later and see what he thought.

Simon continued taking notes as the professor responded to each of the suggested runes, nodding in understanding as they reached his own. Unfortunately he couldn't help but notice the game two ravenclaws ahad decided to play with it, silently thankful one was leaving so they could get on with the actual class withoyt much disturbance.

Now it was on to carving the desks which in and of itself was an odd thing to Simon, literally manhandling school property. But he figured Truebridge had permission or at least a way to fix it if trouble followed. "Both would be more interesting," he replied, "So we can see both sides of the picture."

Chewing on her lip she directed her attention back to Truebs, trying to avoid eye contact with Sal, Ivan... anyone. Raising her hand she said, "Professor, why don't you tell us both ways." Nods. Yep. Do that.

Turning to look at Jim she tried to convey with her eyes that yes, she understood, but he needed to stay in class. If he left... she might have a breakdown of some sort.

Arya didn't know what was going on with Neptune and the Ravenclaw boy. Or maybe she did, but simply refused to put much thought into it simply because she didn't care what was going on in Neptune's life. It was probably the latter. Smiling at the professor when he responded to her, she scribbled down a few more notes as the class discussion progressed. "Can we hear both?" Raising her hand belatedly, she glanced up at Truebridge. She preferred to carve them with a wand, but it might come in handy to know how to carve them without.

Looking up as Truebridge addressed the class, she listened to the two options. She raised her hand, "Professor, I think it would be beneficial to learn both methods. You know, just incase we don't have a wand or something."

It wasn't so much that Neptune... wanted to leave. She SO didn't. She was SOOoOOo going to carve her desk to smithereens and then some. But... well...

It'd be wet carving, wet teary stupid carving if she didn't excuse herself.

Alice thought for a moment, uncertain as to whether which way would make the runes symbol actually look like what it was supposed to. "Perhaps you could teach us both ways Professor? I'd like to do whichever way will allow for me to make it as close to looking like the actual rune as possible." Alice really was rubbish at anything art related, which was why it was so comical that all the muggles in her hometown thought she was attending a fantastic art and architecture school. Heh...Alice as a superstar artist. Now there was something to laugh at.

"Well Professor i feel that both would be very useful. Although if i had to guess i'd say using defodio would probably work for magical. Seeing how to do it without magic would be interesting."
JP saw that it seemed as though the professor was getting annoyed with some ravenclaws.
JP whispered to himself. "Ah, these ravenclaw are giving our house a bad name."

Lowering her hand, Sierra gave the professor a small smile when he commented on her suggestion. Suddenly, she was liking Ancient Runes more and more. The whole idea of those teeny-tiny symbols that meant Merlin knew what weren't so scary to her anymore. Not so scary--but still scary, nonetheless.

She was also glad she wasn't that James kid. A whole essay?! Not just an essay either, but an essay transcribed into runes! With all those answers he had been giving during that whole runes war, though, Sierra had a feeling something like a runes essay was likely easy for him. She made a mental note for herself, however, to never ask to leave class early, especially not in Ancient Runes!

At least it was time to start the carving, though! That was a positive note. For the people who didn't have to write an essay, at least. "I vote for hearing both and then choosing which one to do, Professor," she said, her hand high in the air once again. Why? Because she wanted to go with whichever method was easiest, of course! "I like to keep my options open," she added.

Draven raised his hand,

"Uh professor, i personally would like to hear about both ways if you dont mind sir" he said.

Although Draven was still getting used to his wand he wanted to learn the other way as well and go with what he felt was more natural.

Emily pondered the Professors question.
First of all she had decided that she would engrave the runes: Fehu- for success and achieveing goals, Kenaz- for inspiration -enlightenment and as a study aid, and Uruz- for understanding - willpower -passion and dedication.

Emily put her hand up to gain to Professors attention.
"Professor I would love to learn how to engrave runes using magic", she called over the noise of the classroom.

Truebs, Jimmy, Neptune

Truebridge was letting him... leave? But... but... she didn't want him to leave. She wanted him to stay. Maybe he wouldn't go, maybe he would decide to stay in class and just ignore Neptune and whatever it was that had been going on there.

She looked back over at Jim only to feel her heart drop. He was actually leaving and the only person he looked at was Lexi. Right, obviously the girlfriend was the invisible one here. Why should she know anything that was going on?

She watched as he walked out the door. She was tempted herself to follow him and make sure he was alright but knew she couldn't. She was already behind in the class and she needed to learn all she could if she was going to pass that blasted OWL.

Turning back she seen Neptune leaving too. Great, she was probably going to follow Jimmy and continue whatever it was they had going on here.

Sinking back into her seat and closing her book Marie didn't even bother answering the question Truebs had asked. Then again, she didn't even remember what it was. She really didn't care much now, she just wanted class to be over so she could find Jimmy.

Yeah, she was gonna be pretty useless in this class now.

You're welcome to say a rune someone else has said, but do try to share a different magical association to that rune as well as why you think it'd be
useful."

Kurumi gawked at Professor Truebridge in utter shock. She had received a very stern talking to by one of her non-magical teacher for drawing on her desk and now this man was giving them the opportunity to carve runes into their desks!? Kurumi wasn't sure if she should feel elated or in utter shock. It was like ever child's dream to deface school property and not get in trouble, or something like that.

Flipping open her textbook, Kurumi scanned the various runes to see which, if any, she would fide useful. "Fehu would be very useful as it implies acheiving goals, fruitful endeavours, hardwork paying off. I hate to put effort into my studies only to find that they be in vain. So, Fehu would help make that effort successful." She began looking at the very first rune mentioned. "Uruz would also be good because it would help me finish things quickly not to mention Thurisaz as it will help me with hardships and bring out the knowledge in my mind that may be locked away..." Kurumi was beginning to think that all the runes in the textbook could be useful. "Ansuz could protect me from any colds my classmates may have. If someone were to cough on a quill and then I borrowed it, Ansuz could ward off the illness for example." Kurumi scanned the rest of the page. "Professor, if there was no limit as to how many runes one may use, I think one could find every single one of these useful." Could she carve all of them into her desk? It would make for a very intricate design.

Still, if others were interested in seeing a demonstration, she wouldn't take that away from them. Personally, she would rather learn the magical way. "Professor, both would probably be useful to learn just in case, you know, we are without our wands for some reason."

Better safe than sorry.

Truebridge only watched for a moment as the Ravenclaws left and then he turned his attention back to his class and the students that deserved his attention. Through the entire ordeal 'the confrontation' had been playing in the background.

And he did think they were mad.

"No Salander, I can't say I know why the tree likes chocolate, but the mooncalf dung is fairly obvious." He paused. "It's a particularly excellent fertiliser."

And ah. Tiwaz?

"I too would like to see your grades up." Truebridge responded. "And Tiwaz would help you to strengthen your resolve to do so, and perhaps compete against your classmates too."

"Yes. Passion and speed. Thank you Katie." Truebridge answered, deadpan.

"I shall teach you both and you can practice whichever you like. We'll practice on spare pieces of wood and when you are confident of which method you prefer, we'll work on the tables." Truebridge conjured a piece of wood and simply duplicated it, passing it out by charming one piece to float over to each student and come to a gentle rest on the table in front of them. "Please collect some gloves and goggles from this box here. You must wear these." He summoned a box and placed it on his desk. Eh. If it were up to him he'd let them go to it without worry about protective gear but apparently parents got jumpy about such things these days.

"We'll begin with the magical method. Some of you may remember a similar sounding spell from a class I taught on Kappa a few years back. The incantation is 'Intaglio', and the wand movement is simply moving your wand against the surface exactly where you wish to cut. The trick with the intent here is that you need to keep in mind the rune you are attempting to carve. Concentrate on the meaning and on the name of the rune, repeating it over and over until you are done. For example, if I wished to carve Uruz, I would touch my wand to the wood, and say' Intaglio Uruz uruz uruz uruz uruz...' until I have completed the shape of the Uruz rune." He paused.

"So the incantation and the intent changes as you carve different runes. Is that understood? You may practice on the pieces of wood I handed out just now, but you may not cut into the table yet. Furthermore, you'll find that the worst that will happen as far as injuring yourself goes, is a cut and a bit of blood, you certainly won't severe a finger or anything of that sort. It isn't that sort of spell. But of course you'll all be particularly careful won't you? "

ooc: going to leave it here for a bit. Feel free to practice the spell and carve up your bit of wood. Anyone not wearing the provided gloves and goggles will be in a lot of trouble IC. Truebridge will be around to check people's work and provide help. Remember, no carving the table just yet.

Selina beamed when the teacher acknowledged her choices. Ancient Runes was shaping up to be a positive experience with Selina. She enjoyed what she had learned so far, the teacher was engaging, and from what she understood about the material it was fascinating.

When he mentioned the different carving techniques she grabbed her phoenix feather quill and began to listen to his explanation. She was actually intrigued by all of this material. In fact she was so interested she raised her hand to answer his seemingly rhetorical question, "Um, Professor would you mind explaining both? If you would."

Lezleighd 01-11-2011 04:52 AM

Satine lead the pack and headed up to the desk and grabbed some goggles and some...ghastly...looking gloves and headed back to her spot. She glanced at her piece of wood and then back in the book trying to figure out which rune to start with. She looked down trying to find a rune that matched her right now. Surely that would be the easiest one to carve...right...

Finally she found the one she liked in the list. She practiced saying the incantation and then with a flick of her right wrist her wand shot out into her had from the wrist holster and she practiced just the movements concentrating on seeing the rune being drawn on the block of wood.

She took a deep breath and glanced at the rune one more time...alright here goes...she said, "Intaglio." and began making the movements to create the Sowilo rune...afterall it just looked like a crooked s so it couldn't be that hard to mess up...she focused on it making sure to make straight movements in the usually curved parts of the s.

Carve on the table? thought Helena, looking around for more puzzled expressions. But it was a good idea, activating the magic of each one. She opened her book and looked at the runes. She raised her hand slightly. "I think I will carve Ansuz and Wunjo, wisdom and motivation."

Helena took the gloves and goggles and took out her wand. She pointed it to the piece of wood and murmured "Intaglio," and began to carve Ansuz. It really works, she thought enthusiastically. She moved a little bit her wand and said again "Intaglio," now carving Wunjo.

*Taking a pair of goggles and gloves Matty put them on. Taking the bit of wood he looked it over then pointed his wand to the wood.

Intaglio Mannaz... mannaz, mannaz, mannaz
*After a few moments he pulled his wand back to see the rune cared into the wood. It was faint but there. Matty Smiled proudly and flipped the wood over trying it again.*

Chris reluctantly summoned the protective gear over to her table and put them on, now doubt looking like an idiot. At least she wouldn't get yelled at. She placed the tip of her wand on the plank that had been given to her and began to mutter, "Intaglio Wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo..." continuing until the flag-looking rune lay before her. Success, motivation, completion of tasks, going over the top. Exactly what she wanted to be known for. She continued to carve in the plank. Tiwaz to strengthen the will. Mannaz for intelligence and forethought. Dagaz for clarity. Kenaz, so that she could have a passion for what she was doing. Fehu for acheiving goals, and so that her hard work may pay off. After several minutes of slow, careful work, she removed her gloves and goggles, stroking the lines of each symbol with her fingertip. She was beginning to like this class.

Adam looked around at the other students and followed suit.Getting up to the front he grabbed some gloves and goggles and wiped out his wand. This would be his first time trying something in class.

Glancing around he soon caught on to what was needed to be done.

"Italgio...Italgio Ansuz Ansuz Ansuz"Adam kept repeating.

Kurumi took a pair of goggles and put them on her face only to find that they were five times the size that they should be and were certainly not going to do a good job at protecting her with them falling off her face. Putting those back, she picked up another pair that were just a tad big, but seemed fitting for the task at hand. After picking up a piece of wood and a pair of gloves, Kurumi began to return to her seat when she felt a knot form in her stomach as she remembered nearly setting her desk on fire last term in Transfiguration. A carving spell wouldn't set things on fire, would it?

Setting her piece of wood on the table, Kurumi flipped through her textbook for what looked like was the simplest of the runes to try out first. "OK, Kenaz it is," she said to herself. No argument there. Taking a deep breath, Kurumi pointed her wand at the wood and first just went through the movements of the spell without saying anything aloud. After a few practice runs like thing, Kurumi took another deep breath. Here goes nothing. "Intaglio Kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenazkenaz kenazkenaz kenaz..." Things were going smoothly, until that last kenaz when Kurumi's piece of wood shot off from her desk, smacked right the chalkboard, and went shooting off back towards the class. Hopefully it wouldn't hit anyone...Kurumi couldn't deal with more drama at the moment...

Kurumi's head shot around and searched the sky for the piece of wood. "W-W-Watch out!" she whimpered.

Selina grabbed the wood that floated over in front of her in the classroom. The teacher had given very direct instructions and so in suit Selina would follow them.

She rose from her seat and went over to the box and grabbed gloves and a pair of goggles. Returning to her seat she prepared all of her safety needs by putting on the gloves and goggles. When she was done she pulled out her wand and began, "Intaglio raidho, raidho, raidho, raidho, raidho, raidho, raidho..." she continued to chant until the rune was complete.

She beamed with pride. The fact that she had completed her first piece of school work was remarkable. Now her journey truly began at Hogwarts.

After her moment she went on to practice an array of other runes.

Adam was so concentrated on his work he hadn't heard Kurumi calling out for people to watch over themselves. He looked up last second and saw a long piece of wood zooming his way. With no time to react he barely got down but the wood hit the corner of his forehead.Grabbing his forehead in pain, he laid on the floor, writhing in pain.

"AHHH!!!"He screamed, one eye half covered.

Emily appraoched the front of the class and collected a pair of protective goggles and gloves, then hurried back to her seat where she peered down at the plank of wood she would be practicing on. After securing the goggles over her eyes and pulling on the pair of gloves Emily held her wand to the peice of wood, after clearing her throat lightly she repeated the incantation, "Intaglio fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu..." Emily was concentrating hard on the meaning and the emotion of the rune. As she did this she traced the shape of the Fehu rune on the wood, and remarkably enough slowly it began to scratch into the surface, deepening the longer she traced it.

Emily stood back from her work when she was complete. A smile stretched across her face, "I did it!" she said tracing her finger over the shape of the rune.

Emily picked up her wand again and continued practicing with other runes.
"Intaglio uruz uruz uruz uruz uruz..."

Carving. Perfect. With gloves and goggles, not so exciting. But necessary. Although he preferred the non-magical method of carving anything from wood, this was sure to be interesting as well. Gathering the safety equipment and his piece of wood and shuffled a little so he was beside Arya and Ivan. He couldn't help the grin that took over his expression as he drew on the goggles and wiggled his eyebrows like a mad-scientist. "Carving. Excellent."

With a snap he had the gloves on and his fingers wiggling before they drew out his wand. Yes, he was excited. Very much so. It reminded him of camping all over again and that was something he dearly missed. Another grin was shot over to Arya before he pointed his wand and touched it to the wood, starting out with 'Intaglo'. Then, with a bit of a bounce he began the incantation, using the words as one of the beats he had danced with Arya to. "Thurisaz-Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz, Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz, Thurisaz, Thurisaz..." And the run may have been starting to come out a bit more wonky as if it itself was set to dancing upon the wood. At least it was happy, if not a little sloppy?

Kurumi watched in horror as her practice piece of wood smacked Adam right in the forehead. At least it hadn't poked his eye out...wait...he was wearing goggles, right? "Adam! Are you alright?! I'm so sorry," Kurumi said leaning over him.

First cookie dough carrying birds and now attack by wood chip.

Adam's forehead was beginning to swell a bit where the wood and first smacked into him, so that needed to be attended to first. Reaching into her pocket, Kurumi pulled out her handkerchief and pointed her wand at it."A-A-Aguamenti," she whimpered as a small stream of water came out of her wand and soaked her handkerchief. After a quick freezing charm, Kurumi set the now ice cold handkerchief on his forehead. "Here, that should help a little..."

Ug, she really didn't need this right now. Her nerves were already shot.

Holding the magic made ice pack steady, Kurumi looked at her piece of wood. Hey, at least she had managed to successfully carve the rune into it!

No! No! No!

Mia wanted to practice the other way. The one that didn't require her to use any magic especially with all this wood around. Did the Professor not know how fast wood could burn when set on fire?

Heaving a deep sigh, she stood up on shaky legs and headed up the front and picked out some goggles and gloves before returning to her table and sighing again. And what was even worse was that Finn, Sal, Marie and the little first year was all sitting with her so she was going to look like an absolute moron if this went wrong.

She put the gloves on her hands and the goggles over her eyes and then picked up her wand. "Be good to me." She murmured quietly giving her wand a little shake and then turning back to the piece of wood.

Sweeping her wand over the wood, Mia said the incantation. "Intaglio...Thurisaz...Thurisa...Thuris...Thuri... Thur...Thu...Th..." Yes it hadn't taken long and her mind had began to wander off and she was losing her focus. Ironic that she was trying carve a rune that is supposed to help with concentration and she was losing hers very quickly.

With a frustrated little grunt, Mia stabbed her wand at the piece of wood and sparks flew out of the end of it.

Ooops.

*Sitting near by Matty felt a small spark on the back of his neck.*
"Ow-"
*It felt like a bug bite and he slapped the spot. Turning he saw a very worried Mia.*
"I'll be right back."
*He told Lea. Getting up he went and sat next to her.*
"Your over thinking again. Just relax... lightly run your wand over the wood. Look-"
*Pulling out his block of wood with the rune on it he showed her how he did it.*
"Now you try."

Arya fan of any of safety gear, and goggles and gloves were no exception. She wouldn't object in class though, knowing the professor was only looking out for her and the rest of the student's safety. Hopping off of her seat, she moved to the man's desk and retrieved her safety equipment. Moving back to her seat, she slid back onto the seat and placed her equipment on the table, eyes flicking to Sabel and a grin spreading across her face when he took up a seat beside her. "It like wood shop." But with magic.

His excitement was infectious as she soon found herself more excited about carving her wood than she had been before. Sliding her goggles on her face, and the gloves on her hands, she placed her wood in one hand and wand in the other. She found her legs swinging idly as she touched her wand to the wood, saying the incantation to the same beat Sabel was using. "Intaglio Ehwaz ehwaz ehwaz ehwaz ehwaz..." She didn't know if it was because runes wasn't her best subject, or because she was distracted by numerous things....but her rune wasn't looking like a rune. Did runes have curves?

There was no containing the grin that broke out onto his expression as Arya joined in their private song. He still wasn't sure what beat it was or if words existed for it, but it was theirs and they could share it. He didn't really care how goofy it sounded to be singing the incantation and he didn't care who heard; not that he was bellowing it out like an opera singer, but he wasn't going to whisper it either. "Thurisaz-Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz, Thurisaz-Thurisaz...Thurisaz, Thurisaz, Thurisaz..." More and more his run was turning out to look like a dancing person, or two people. He wasn't to sure, he just knew it wasn't completely rune-ish. Perhaps they could call this one 'Gaudium et Spes', or Hope and Joy. It seemed rather fitting.

Arya was perfectly content with repeating the incantation to the tune that Sabel had created. Her voice wasn't as loud as his was, her thoughts distracting her enough to keep her from allowing it to rise any higher than it already was. There was only just enough concentration for her to spare to focus on her rune. It, however, was not enough to make her rune...look like an actual rune, and after a long moment of repeating Ehwaz, she hesitantly stopped to stare at her carving. A slight frown crossed her expression as her focused slowly centered on the carving. "Runes don't have curves do they? I don't think so..." She was speaking to Sabel, though her eyes were on the wood in her hand. "I think I might need a new piece of wood."

Ok Mooncalf dung =tree fertilizer, chocolate= tree hyper?

One way to find out

And Tiwaz for strengthening resolve and compete. he nodded his head. Right. Compete. And suddenly theres an evil cackle somewhere echoing in his head.

He turned his head towards Jimmy and the blond Ravenclaw girl go back and forth and then asked to be excused. Dang... Dramatitis. Ridiculously contagious it looks it. Maybe he ought to touch base with Jimmy later, never knew him to lose his cool like that.

His attention returned to Truebridge as he began to demonstrate the spell. He then reached out for several protective gears and distributed them to their group, handing one directly to Marie. It was then when he noticed the change in her demeanor. Gone was her smile from earlier, now she was moping, much like he was.

He missed something again didnt he?

He slapped the protective gears on and focused on his piece of wood "Innntaaglioww Teeee-wazzzzz " he uttered, repeating the spell as it carved out a straight vertical line, wood shavings curving up and falling out as he goes. But some commotion up front distracted him, moving his goggles up to have a better look. Seems like Kurumi was turning her piece of wood into some kind of rocket, since it looked to have smacked a fellow Gryffie in the head.

And for the first time since the class started, his mood began to lighten, snickering at the chaos of the young Gryffindors. But he just about missed Mia muttering beside him, sparks from her wand falling into his work area....

Suddenly he could feel heat and a strange popping sound. He looked back down at the work area, and saw the wood shavings were on fire.....

THE WOOD SHAVINGS WERE ON FIRE!!!

He gasped at the small blaze that started to spread. "A-A-A-Aguamenti!!!" he blurted, dousing the fire out.... and just about everybody else on their table.

Oops.

A slight frown crossed her expression as her focused slowly centered on the carving. "Runes don't have curves do they? I don't think so..." She was speaking to Sabel, though her eyes were on the wood in her hand. "I think I might need a new piece of wood."

He was still singing his tune when Arya spoke and while he lowered his wand and stopped his incantations, he didn't stop his on-the-spot-dancing to the beat still running through his head. Peering over her shoulder, he examined the wood, reaching out to trace his fingers over the mark. "Personally, I think it's beautifully unique."

His eyes went back to his own, which was pretty much complete save for needing a bit more of a deeper imprint. With a smile, he picked it up and held it next to Arya's, noting the similarity in the curves of their runes. Was that what happened when you created something to the same beat? His grin only widened as he considered what the runes meant when they were side by side. "Together, we have created the intention of bringing about something wonderful and focusing energy to banish the negative and make room for change." 'Gaudium et Spes' indeed.

rofl, FIRE!

Evelyn didn't really care which method he would teach them first, but she knew she pretty much wanted to do this task without magic. Though if she got to use magic in the beginning well then...that was just a bonus. Being restricted from using it over the summer, she was quite antsy to do some spells.

Waiting until most of the people had gotten their protective gear, since there would be less people to get close to that when she herself got up, the Slytherin was just about to get up and go get a pair herself but, Salander had already done that apparently.

Muttering a 'thank you' to the older Slytherin, Evelyn took a pair of gloves and eye-wear before settling down in her seat, making herself comfortable and sliding on the gloves, all the while keeping an open ear for what Professor Truebridge was saying.

Staring down at the piece of wood in front of her, the teenage girl pulled out her wand and tapped it against her hand, thinking of which rune she should carve into it. Why not her favorite? Thurisaz? However, before she could even begin to think of the incantation, a sudden blur caught her off guard as her gaze snapped up to the moving thing in the air, causing her eyes to widen. What in the world was that!?

Staring at the moving piece, in a moment, it clicked in her mind that it was a wooden board much like her own, except hers wasn't connecting with a Gryffindor's head at the moment. She couldn't help but snort at that actually. Hehe, what!? It was FUNNY!

...wait. Fire. FIRE! FIRE!! Lookit it!

"NOOOO!" she whined rather loudly, watching the flames disappear under the water being conjured from Salander's spell. Alright, so she was upset the beautiful flames disappeared...and she was also upset that now her lap was getting drenched. Stumbling out of her chair, the Slytherin scoffed, glancing down to her wet front...

Before glaring at Salander that is. This...was his fault. He could have totally let the fire be.

It wasn't like it hurt him!

Oops.

Kurumi looked up from her holding of the handkerchief ice pack to see that Salander had managed to catch his piece of wood on fire. Well, that answered her question earlier about whether or not this carving charm could cause the wood to catch on fire. Who needed Incendio when you could start a fire with Intaglio?

Then, Kurumi got doused in water. Lots of it. Her bangs became plastered to the front of her face covering her eyes and her shoe started making a squishy noise. Did any body have a towel?

Still, instead of getting angry, Kurumi found herself laughing. First class of the year and complete chaos was breaking out. It felt good to be back at Hogwarts.

"Perhaps, I should have carved Ur instead," she laughed picking up her piece of wood. "Seeing as it is a rune that represents water, maybe it could have prevented this." She parted her soaked bangs and looked up at Salander. See, everything could have some educational value.

"Destiny! I could kiss you, if we weren't in the middle of a class room, I was just a loser-loner....."However the rest of his welcome, was cut off as The man began to talk. But had anyone looked at Patroclus whilst the students all around him put forth their answers and ideas, they would have seen the boy was wearing a glowing smile, from ear to ear.

BEST.LESSON.EVER.

Patroclus opened his page and started to browse the runes on offer, "I feel like a kid in a candy shop," he whispered to Destiny as he scanned the the various affects and attributes of the runes.

A sneaky thought crept into his mind, and it made selecting the runes extra easy, "Professor I would suggest Wunjo and Dagaz!" Patroclus smiled, pointing silently to Destiny, that it would mean that there desk would be inscribed with Runes that greatly ressembled P and D! Why was that imporant?

Patroclus and Destiny of course!

"Wunjo, would be effective because the rune promotes Achievement, Success as well as Motivation. All things a student would wish to get out of their education! Cause who doesn't enjoy the satisfy feeling of completing something!" Patroclus was stubborn when it came to get jobs down, so this Rune was perfect for him.

"Then with Dagaz, it's all about clarity, and awareness. It would help a student to focus, leading to positive outcomes!"
P and D! Best Runes Ever!

Right.

It didn't seem like Patroclus got the hint behind her staring. Perhaps he wouldn't notice if she slowly reached her hand over and pulled the badge off of his robes? Just about to reach out and make a quick grab for it, her eyes widened when he mentioned giving her a KISS..if they weren't in the middle of a classroom.

Just about to open her mouth and tell him that she would rather him let her wear his Prefect badge, Truebridge started to speak in all that rune language and..she had no idea what was going on. She was just a liiiittle too distracted to answer any questions. Not that she knew the answers anyway. Not that she needed to know them. Patroclus seemed to know what he was talking about.

Totally oblivious to the rune meanings that he was speaking of, she went back to staring at his badge.

Pleeeeeease!!!

But of course you'll all be particularly careful won't you?"

Pffft.

She would just have to wait until after class to steal ask to wear it. Turning her attention to Truebridge and trying to understand what was going on, Destiny went up to the front and grabbed a pair of gloves and SWEET LOOKING goggles for herself and Patroclus. MAYBE if she was nice to him he would let her wear the badge!?

Skipping Walking back to their table, she placed the gloves and goggles in front of him and after giving a rather cheesy grin, she turned to the board in front of her. Ehh, she remembered that DADA class Truebridge was talking about. Where they had to carve their name in that cucumber and how that unknown Denise person kept messing with her head.

Still never found that girl.

With her goggles and gloves on, she pulled out her wand and leaning in reaaaaaaaal close to the wood, she placed her wand against it. "Intaglio Raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho."

Hmm, would this spell work on clothing!?

Like that muggle man Zorro.

ooc: going to leave it here for a bit. Feel free to practice the spell and carve up your bit of wood. Anyone not wearing the provided gloves and goggles will be in a lot of trouble IC. Truebridge will be around to check people's work and provide help. Remember, no carving the table just yet.

Emily got up and got some gloves and goggles out of the box.
She was just so excited to be finally doing magic!
She learned close to the wood with her wand, took a deep breath and muttered "Intaglio Thurisaz Thurisaz Thurisaz Thurisaz..."
Not much was happening, it wasn't looking much like a rune yet. She would have to try again.

Random_Me_Ly_ 01-11-2011 08:20 AM

"Intaglio." Heather said. "Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo...." Heather successfully carved the rune into her piece of wood. "Intaglio Ansuz, Ansuz, Ansuz, Ansuz...." Another one done. She did the same with 'Mannaz' and then decided three was enough. "How is this, Professor?" Heather asked.

Ethan and Dozer

Cassie had been wide awake at five am but that was because she had to job each other and be back in time to get ready for class. It was a routine she had comfortably fallen into over the years. Well the jogging started in her third year but still. In any case she was still excited to start classes, especially since this was her first year taking runes.

She covered her mouth to stop a chuckle from coming out. Yep Ethan was extremely sleepy and funny. She leaned in closer to him as he spoke as well as if sharing secrets." How do I do it? Well for the most part I go to bed early probably by ten or so because I know I have an early start each morning." she realised that the boy was still struggling with sleep and this time did not try to hide her chuckle as he took her hand and shook it." Pleasure Ethan.Maybe you should think about going to bed early tomorrow as well?" sometimes boys needed girls to give them good advice and direction. Merlin only knew what would happen if girls weren't around. So he didn't like Runes eh? Well she didn't know if she liked it or not considering the fact that this was going to be her first runes class." Really? Well this is my first time taking the class, so I'm coming in with a some what opened mind. Hopefully I won't suck at it."

She looked up when she felt the presence of someone else at the table. Another boy, also easy on the eyes. She smiled at him and sat upright again. It wasn't exactly polite to be having whispered conversations when someone else was at the table." hello." she said greeting the new comer. She then looked between the two for the resemblance as the exchange between them indicated that they were brothers. Ethan introduced her and once again she extended her hand." charmed. Its interesting that your name is Dozer, yet its your brother who is threatening to dose off any second now." she looked back at Ethan with a playful smile.

Patroclus may have been pointing at the runes for Destiny to look at, but it seemed that she had other plans.

To the Lion it seemed that either she was asleep with her eyes open, or that Destiny was rather entranced by his badge. Deciding on the latter, a small smile splayed across his lips as the thought occurred to him that he could have some fun with this. Rolling his neck and then his shoulders Patroclus gave a huge stretch, with his arms over his head and his chest puffed out, puffed out just so that his badge was mere centimetres from Destiny’s face.

However just as it got extra close, the boy snapped his arms back down. So close yet so far, my little D, he grinned to himself.

After had Truebridge given his instruction and then the incantation, Patroclus made to get up and grab himself and Destiny some goggles, gloves and wood, but it seemed that she had beaten him too it. Watching as she placed them before him Patroclus smiled, “Thank you Miss Shepard,” his hands closing around the safety gear, “I would have got them for us!” he added, wanting to let her know that he was planning on being a gentleman before she got them.

Watching Destiny start on the piece of wood, Patroclus took up his wand and had a go too, “Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo” and as the rune began to become visible in the wood, Patroclus was taken by another idea.
“I think I should I take this off,” he stated, his fingers heading to his badge, “Don’t you? I don’t want it to get scratched.”

He left his fingers hanging on the badge, a sheepish smile on his face whilst he waited for Destiny’s reply.

Oops.

Too busy worrying about trying to get her wand to work right and actually carve a rune into the piece of wood, Mia had not watched where the sparks from her wand had flown off to.

That was until she looked up at the sound of Matty's voice and gave him a weak smile. "I don't think that I am overthinking it. I am not thinking at all. That's the problem. I can't keep my focus, my mind tends to wander halfway through saying the incantation."

She watched as Matty demonstrated the correct way of doing it and was just about to attempt it again when Sal started yelling about a fire.

EEEK!!!

She had done it again. Mia was just about to push her chair away from the desk when suddenly she was drenched with water. She sat there for a moment blinking a couple of times, trying to figure out what had happened when she saw Sal standing there with his wand out and realised that he had put the fire out.

Mia slumped down in her chair. No point in telling the Slytherin off for wetting her seeing how it was she that had caused the problem in the first place.

"Er...maybe I should try the other way of carving a rune into the wood."

Emmy grabbed a piece of wood, donned her gloves and goggles, and sat down.
What should she carve? Which rune to use? Decisions, decisions...
After several minutes of intense consideration, she decided upon Gebo, as one of it's uses was to find or strengthen a relationship.

Setting the very tip of her wand against the wood, she murmured "Intaglio Gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo..."

When she finally laid down her wand, there sat before her a - slightly wibbly, but discernable and recognisable - cross, like a capital 'X'... Or a very big kiss.

Once Professor completed stating how to use the spell, Lucy was all into the mood to create some awesome runes. She hadn’t decided as to which rune would she make and then started then after thinking for five minutes she decided to make the Jera Rune.
So to get started on her work she first wore the gloves and goggle provided by the professor as she didn't want to get in any trouble. After making her self ready to carve the rune, she then took the piece of wood and thought of the Jera rune and then as exactly as professor she put her wand on the piece of wood and said "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera" repeatedly till it was perfect.
Now the rune was perfect she took a deep breath as this made her thirsty and thouth was dried she need some water now.

Cass sighed. Rune carving..great.

She drew her wand from her sleeve and stared at the block of wood in front of her...

Then she glanced at the line forming in front of the teacher's table and realized that she was supposed to get safety stuff..So she stood up, tucked her wand inside her sleeve once more and went over to the table to get a pair of gloves and goggles.

Afterwards, she returned to her table and sighed. No way out now.

She pointed her wand at the wood and said "Intaglio Isa, Isa Isa, Isa"

Finally, after more "Isa-s" that she could count, her wooden rune was perfect.

As the class progressed, Dianna found the wood carving part particularly interesting. She remembered carving the pickle before so it was nice to practice it once more.

Pickle-Wood. What was the difference?

Because of the safety precautions, Dianna had to get some gloves and goggles from the teacher's table. As she passed by some students were already starting. She was startled at the fact that someone set the wood shavings on fire and also that someone got smacked by a piece of wood on the forehead. But hey, it's all fun right?

"Intalgio Fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu.." she muttered as her wand started carving the piece of wood.

She stopped and took a deep breathe. Her wood rune-thingy was done!

They are going to carve a Rune? Wow. Cool..!!

Freya walked towards the Professor desk to collect goggle and gloves. After she got the goggle and gloves for herself, the Slytherin blonde made her way back to her work table. She put the goggles and the gloves on before she began craving Rune. Okay all set. She thought for a moment what rune she'd like to carve on the woods. She flipped through her runes textbook to find a perfect rune. "Hmm..I think I'll go with Sowilo" she said to herself. She pulled out her wand and took a very deep breath before she pointed her wand to the wood "Intaglio Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo." After a lot more Sowilo later, she looked to her wood and saw Sowilo craved onto the wood.

Louisa scribbled down the incantation on her piece of parchment. She wasn't the best in memorizing the specific spells, you see. The piece of wood seemed like her tiny board back at home, the one she usually taught her brothers the alphabet on, and that helped her not to be tensed over the carving thing.

Before she had started working on her piece of wood and like a warning from heaven, Louisa saw a flying wood and then FIRE! She gasped and almost jumped under the table if an older student didn't step in and put it out. She stood still for a moment to take it all in. Okay. That was a bad try from that girl. What if she made the same mistake? Huh? No way. She wasn't taking any chances! Everybody knew wood catches fire like… the best. She wore the protecting gloves and moved her piece of wood further away… and further… and further. Now she was safe enough to try that spell ^__^

Ahem. She pointed her wand at the piece of wood, which stood almost in the center of the table now, and focused on it. "Intaglio Ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz.." Moving the wand around and a few seconds later she heard a sound… like a big saw working on a piece of wood.

What? O__o

Louisa stopped suddenly and stretched out for her wood. "Er…Professor…" The young girl could see through the carvings! Uh Oh. "Was this supposed to happen?" Awkward smile "I mean the shape is almost the same but.."She put one finger into one of the holes.

After putting on the safety equipment Jamie held her wand. She was nervous. That much was certain. She looked at the block of wood and then back at the rune she wanted to draw. It looked like on of those less than signs so maybe it wouldn't be so complicated. She pointed her wand and said,"Intaglio." Then immediately began thinking Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz. When she was done she let her wand dropped and looked at the Rune. One line was longer than the other and she frowned placing her elbow on the table so she could rest her cheek on the corresponding hand.

Witsy was carefully paying attention as to not make any mistakes. Once she heard about safety glasses she sighed, for some reason everytime she wore them they would fog up on her or couldn't see. It's like they hated her or something. She looked over to the rest of the people at her table already practicing and thought to begin.

She placed her safety glasses on and placed the piece of wood in front of her. She raised her wand and her head started be irritated. Well now I can't concentrate on ruins if I'm bothered, she rationalized. She kept going and once her wand started moving and Witsy kept repeating Kenaz over and over her glasses fogged. Okay I can't wear these she thought, maybe no one will notice, feeling a bit paranoid. She took her goggles off, it's a piece of wood it's not gonna kill me... she hoped to think.

He stated, with a grin. Wow, he could have done better, but still at least it wasn't as bad as Crabcakes. Before he could answer her next question the music seemed to die down and the professor was starting the class. He gave a knowing look to Bonnie that they would catch up later after class.

Okay, so what he knew about Runes. Well Ancient Runes wasn't his best class and he wasn't great at memorizing what he had already learned about them. So he sat up straight in his seat, still a little nervous, trying to think about what he knew about Ancient Runes.

Sophie was sitting at a table with Sebastian and another unkown girl and took dilligent notes as the first Ancient Runes lesson begun. The prefect didn't make any attempt to express her knowledge of Ancient Runes since it in all honesty was seriously lacking. She had not taken Runes in the two previous years since she had placed most of her attention and effort in other subjects. Sophie mouthed a 'Hello' to Sebastian before taking a closer look inside the Runes textbook that was placed in front of her.

SPOILER!!: Truebridge

Opening up the textbook to the designated page Sophie read with rising interest about the different runes and their magical uses. Clearing her throat she said "Thurisaz, Wunjo and Ansuz fit me best. Thurisaz since I as an OWL-student could benefit from the study aid and self-disipline so that i will commit myself to studying well and be prepared for the OWL's." She glanced quickly at the page again before continuing. "Wunjo fits me on a more personal level since we all need harmony, joy and motivation in our everyday lifes to give it meaning. And Ansuz latly because being able to communicate with peopple is off the essence as well as finding wisdom in everyday situations to become a better person." Sophie stopped talking hoping that it had made sense. If not she couldn't exactly take her words back.

Several minutes later Professor Truebridge announced that they were going to be testing to carve a rune into a piece of wood. Excited Sophie walked up and collected her safety googles and gloves. Back at her table a piece of wood was waiting for her. Extracting her wand from its holster Sophie said "Intaglio Wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo." whilst aiming her wand at her wood piece. Slowly some lines started writing itself on the wood. The warmth emanating from her piece of wood was quite warm. She hoped that she wouldn't cause a fire to break out like she had seen happen to Kurumi a fellow Gryffindor.

After collecting the necessary protective gear Rowan slipped on her gloves. Now, she thought to herself, which Rune should I use? Runes was not her best subject and she had to think long and hard to come up with one, finally deciding on Isa. She concentrated hard on the Rune, whispering "Isa, Isa, Isa," a few times hoping that no one heard her. She moved her wand exactly as the Professor had shown her and actually managed a passable Isa Rune! She had to fight to contain the huge smile that tried to break out on her face, but failed miserably. She couldn't believe that it had ACTUALLY worked!

Elle, seeing what everybody was doing, walked over to the teacher's table and got some safety tools.

"Good morning, Professor Truebridge," She cheerfully greeted him as she was on her way to the table.

With goggles and gloves, Elle took out her nine-inch Elm wand. Flipping through a few pages of her textbook, she found out a good spell for the carving. "Ah! This one should do..." She muttered to herself.

Taking a deep breath, she began her chant. "Intaglio Kenaz... Kenaz... Kenaz... " Without stopping to breathe, Elle just kept going on and on and on.

Finally, finished! ELL DID IT! It was her first time to properly use her wand. Boy were her parents going to proud. Hihi, just you wait.

jengirls109 01-11-2011 02:58 PM

Jaina, wearing her googles and gloves, looked down at her piece of wood. She thought very hard about Fehu. She says "Intaglio Fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu." She looked at her piece of wood...still nothing. Ok, let's try this again! "Intaglio Fehu, Fehu, Fehu, Fehu..."

leridanusws 01-11-2011 03:09 PM

Lila made sure her goggles and gloves were on properly. Then she placed her wand on the provided wood. "Intaglio Uruz," she said watching the wood. "Uruz, Uruz, Uruz," she repeated until the shape was finished.

IronicHubris 01-11-2011 03:58 PM

After getting the necessary protective gear and donning it, he set to work on his piece of wood. Grasping his gingko wand and glad of the first real chance to use it, he muttered to himself, "Intaglio, Tiwaz, Tiwaz, Tiwaz..." As he carved the rune, he thought of the property he most wanted to summon, analysis. He liked knowing that there was a special rune for analysis, considering his own preference for in-depth research and the like (being a Chemistry buff). When the rune was completed, he moved on, "Intaglio, Mannaz, Mannaz, Mannaz..." He focused mainly on the duel properties of intelligence and creation, wanting to reiterate the fact that his intellect would help him create new things based on what he learned. Finally, he began again, "Intaglio, Othala, Othala, Othala..." With this rune, he focused his mind on the properties of acquisition and permanence, figuring that he knowledge he was enabling himself to acquire would only be really useful to him if it was permanent.

When he was done with his carving he smiled to himself, and looked around him at the other students either busy or finished as well.

lilithpotter 01-11-2011 04:02 PM

She listen to the professor as he discussed the way to say it and the precautions to make before you began. Basically don't cut yourself, even though it wouldn't cut off your whole finger off. That sounds easy enough. Holding the board in one hand and her wand in the other, "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera" and she began to carve the rune into the board. Looking daown at the new carving in the board it wasn't very pretty she would need to learn how to balance her wand at the same time. "Kenaz is next. Intaglio kenaz, kenaz." she finished that one and it looked alot better than the other. Lastly was algiz. "Intglio algiz, algiz, algiz." Practice makes perfect.

Draven took the googles and gloves out of the box and put them on. Man, these goggles make me look like a giant bug he thought as they were really huge! He then took out his wand and pronounced the spell "Intablio!" and all of a sudden the piece of wood flew off his desk and zinged past the professors head. Draven's eyes widened as he felt a huge sense of embarrassment.

"Uh sorry professor" he said hearing a few giggles in the classroom.

Alice fetched some goggles and gloves and put them on. Well she felt stupid but it was no different to what she had to wear in science at Muggle School. Right. She got her wand from her bag and shifted in her seat a little, this was the first time she had ever used her wand properly, well unless you counted the failed levitation charm she had tried at home, her dad was never going to forget nearly being knocked out by a floating coffee mug that was for sure, It was very very likely that this would be a disaster. With Her hand shaking slightly she lifted her wand and cleared her voice. “Intaglio Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz.” Slowly she could see the rune being carved into the wood! This was going way way better than she expected. Alice kept going till the rune was finished…well it was a little bit wonky and wobbly but it was pretty good for a first try.

Arya was too distracted to notice the antics of the other students in the class. A good thing since she would normally find them distracting as well, and if she were to add those distractions to her current one, she would never get any work done. Her legs continued to swing as she watched Sabel's fingers traced her runes mark. It wasn't completed, nor was it correct, it was just visible enough and had just enough lines for the trained eye to distinguish what rune she was carving.

"Wonder if Truebridge will agree with that statement?" She peeked up at him with a grin. Maybe she would save this one since he seemed to like it so much. Glancing over at his rune, she realized that his, while more complete than hers, weren't exactly correct either. A grin spreading across her face when he told her the meanings of their runes together. "Intention indeed. I don't think they would work much....but they do look pretty side by side."

Alice picked up the piece of wood in front of her, pleased that this was more mentally visualizing than any real hands on carving. She figured her rune might actually turn out looking like a run this way. Alice slid on her goggles as well as a pair of gloves to protect her eyes and hands....you could never be too cautious in her opinion.

Alice placed her wand gently on the piece of wood, clearing her throat, before closing her eyes. "Intaglio wunjo, wunjo, wunjo," Alice kept saying, softly for a couple of minutes, picturing the rune and what it meant while she mumbled to herself. Alice opened her eyes, pleased to see the rune on the wooden board but unfortunately it was sideways...Alice turned the piece of wood so that the rune was facing the right direction...hmm.

a little knowing look towards truebs in here too XD

As the wood landed on his desk, Jake gave it a quick glance.

Yep. That was wood.

Ugh, gloves and goggles? He wasn't twelve. Jake made a slight face and summoned the safety equipment rather than go and get it... it was much easier this way. Plus, Jake was at the front anyway and lazy so... yeah.

After putting the ridiculous stuff on, Jake looked through his wand and found an easy one to say.

Isa looked good. PLUS it was easy to start with... just a straight line. Though when he looked at the pronunciation he saw he'd sound like a donkey...

Clearing his throat and holding his wand up, Jake pointed it at the wood and had his first attempt. "Intaglio isa isa isa isa isa..." he said firmly, tracing a line down, thinking of blockages and the one that stuck in his head, 'ice'.

Of course that led him to change what he was saying in his distraction."

"... isa isa isa... ice ice... ice ice baby..."

The spell stopped... but he had a line, so it was a success!

Next, Jake looked for a more complicated shape.

Algiz looked cool... it looked like a man cheering, possibly because he'd just carved a rune. Jake smiled and pointed his wand at another corner of his b-...

He saw the distractions in the room... fire, water, flying boards... and shook his head. The first thing that came to Jake's mind was the book still sitting on the table, and at once he grabbed the thing and stowed it safely in his bag which was gripped between his feet. Then he looked at Truebridge and raised an eyebrow without realising. Well... give the children wood and this is
what happens.

Focusing (GASP!) on his board of wood again, Jake cast his spell, thinking of protection and shields as he did so, and trying not to say those words out loud.

"Intaglio algiz algiz algiz algiz algiz..."

It took longer than the last one, of course, and some intense concentration, but Jake soon found himself finished with... a slightly odd looking shape, like a guy dancing to the YMCA song mid-way between Y and M. Well... it was hard to concentrate on three things!

"... sweet."

First time he'd managed a spell on the first try whilst at Hogwarts, after all.

A train of thought or an attached energy. Some believe anyone can preform magic simply by a combination of those things and an honest heart."

Unfolding one of his arms, he reached over again and traced the light carving of Arya's rune with his finger. "I think a lot of people here would consider that blasphemy, but I think we have created magic right here. Right now." His smile turned up to her. "Isn't it magic, if every time you look at this, you smile, laugh or feel the motivation of inspiration. If you find the need to dance and move as this rune's magical properties entail? Magic doesn't have to be something mystical or difficult. Even a simple smile, that is magic."

Fee picked up the piece of wood in front of her. Sliding on her googles and gloves the blonde thought if what rune to take. Maybe Dagaz or Jera?Mhhh...She should decide sontaneously.Gladly they didnt practise on something human or living. That would be horrible.

Fee aimed her wand on the piece of wood, thinking of the spell one last time.Hopefully she would do it right. She couldnt mess up her best subject."Intaglio dagaz, dagaz, dagaz" the Slytherin said cocentraiting on what she was doing.Yeep Dagaz was totally the right rune to form.

Opening her eyes, the second year was pleased to see the rune on the wooden board.Yaaaayy it had worked.

Sabel was....close. Hmm. Rubbing her lips together, she gave her head a small shake before allowing her smile to reappear. "Not that way that they're suppose to work and not to their full ability." Of course she doesn't know the extent of runes magic, so just getting them to work at all would be wonderful. "Muggles aren't wrong....not all wrong at least. Not everyone can preform magic." She shook her head again lightly, smile still present. It was, after all why there were muggles and squibs.

Her eyes drifted to her rune, watching his fingers as he traced her curved rune. She was going to comment that they always created magic, that they were wizards and witches, and magic ran through their veins, but she knew that wasn't what he was referring to. The young girl didn't catch his smile, eyes still following his finger as it traced her rune. "That is magic.... not the magic I was referring to," she peeked up at him, head tilted to the side. "But magic all the same."

"Well, personally I find it at times, the more enchanting, wondrous form." For a moment his eyes remained on her, simply watching her. It took him those few minutes to realize he was actually supposed to be doing work and with a small sigh and another shrug, he straightened and fastened his eyes to his work again. "But that's just my perception. Still, I think yours looks wonderful."

Picking up his wand again, he considered the wonky, tilted and curvy rune he had almost finished. With a small shrug of his shoulders, he continued on it; may as well finish what he started and keep the memory of this time honest. Even if the rune didn't look exactly as it should. That wasn't the practice of this excercise anyways, was it?

question for Truebridge.

Before heading up to the table, Emmaleigh listened to all the professor had to say. With her quill in hand, she began taking notes on the important bits. One of the last things he said made her pause in her writing. Raising her hand, she asked "Um, Professor? If you're carving a rune, and only thinking about one intent, will it only help with that one aspect?" she paused a moment, trying to string together her idea. "Like, if I'm carving Fehu, and only concentrating on luck, would it still help with achieving goals, and hard work paying off? Or would I have to carve the rune for each intent?"

After she was done taking notes, the young puff made her way the front of the room where she grabbed a pair of safety goggles, and sat them on her face. She headed back to her table, where she rummaged through her bag, and pulled out her own pair of gloves. She placed them on her hands, and looked at the list of Runes, trying to decided which one to try first. Nauthiz looked fairly easy, and yet it would still be useful for the class. She slipped her gloves on, and took her wand and thought about which hand to try first. Taking the wand in her left hand, Em held it against the wood. After a deep breath, the girl muttered intaglio, nauthiz, nauthiz, nauthiz, nauthiz and thought about the meaning of the rune. She did this untill she had finished carving the symbol. After she finished, Emmaleigh decided to switch hands, and try the Wunjo rune. This time, she gripped the wand tightly in her right hand, and repeated "intaglio, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo," as she traced the rune's shape on the board, still concentrating on the meaning of the rune.

She was forced to bring her eyes up to meet his when he removed his fingers from her unfinished rune. Shoulders shrugging lightly. "Sometimes one form of magic can lead to the other, so to chose would be impossible for me to do." Flicking her eyes to his rune, and then her own unfinished one, she tilted her head again. "I guess it's not too bad."

Tapping her wand against her chin, since the gloves made twirling difficult, she watched him for a brief moment before returning to her rune. There was no way she could remove the curves in the letter now, but she could at least finish the rune.

Sabel paused in lowering his wand to the wood again, considering her words. "I suppose, that's very true." That only brought up the question of why such an incorporation wasn't possible and why everyone couldn't have the tolerance for magic that would allow wizards and witches to live openly with muggles. He understood the reasoning why the secrecy was important, but it was still disheartening at times. The thoughts only led him down the road of memory back to the Quibbler and the news in it. For a long moment he sat there still and silent, staring distantly at the rune. It wasn't his concern, even if there was anything to worry about, as most people would tell him, but he couldn't help but to think and worry about it.

It took him a moment to return movement to his hand and start carving the wood again. This time, with the more focussed thoughts and the lack of the tune and smiles, the rune was a lot more jagged, conflicting with the smooth lines he had originally started off with. It was beginning to look more and more like two images imposed on one another, and he wasn't liking it that much anymore.

It was bad to eavesdrop. Yes, it was. But they were right next to her!

Trying to hide grin at Arya and Sabel's exchange, Ivory tried to concentrate on the matter at hand. Carving runes. With a little hop she was out of her chair, and retrieving the necessary protective gear.
Goggles. Check. Gloves. Check. Piece of wood. Check.

Her gaze scrutinized her desk. What would be the best rune to enhance a desk. A desk in an ancient runes class. Ancient runes. Hmmm. Recalling past years, Ivory tilted her head to the side. What had been the one things that had been a common occurrence in this class? Students falling asleep.
Soooo.....
Alertness. And energy. And Awake-ness. Activity. Productiveness. Yes, that sounded about right.

Now to get the pronunciation right. Forming her mouth around the right syllables Ivory practiced saying it in her mind a few times. Intaglio sowilo. IntAAAglio sowIIIlo. The g appeared to be there for decoration and not to enunciate. Intaglio sowilo.

Giving her slim wrist a little flick, she felt her wand slide out of its holster easily in her palm watching as the familiar little blue flame came into existence at its tip.

The piece of wood now in front of her, she directed her aim over it, tracing the sort of backwards z pattern, or pointed s pattern, she had in mind. With a small clearing breath she took a few moments to concentrate on her intent. Energy. Activity. Energy for activity. Success.

Then, still concentrating and trying to keep her arm steady she began to carve albeit a bit wobbly and squiggly like. "Intaglio sowilo. Sowilo.Sowilo.Sowilo.Sowilo.Sowilo.Sowilo." Slowly the cuts began to appear on the wood. At first just superficially then with a little more depth.

So what if they looked like the product of some 5 year old, they were carved.

Sighing and blowing her bangs out of her eyes, she sort of balanced her elbow on her desk to steady herself. Now to try again.

Practice made perfect after all.

Sierra watched as a single piece of wood was conjured out of thin air, duplicated, and then distributed so nicely to each and every student. She stared at her own piece of wood for a few seconds, trying to wrap her head around the fact that it once been...nothing..., then just one piece of wood, and finally, lots of different pieces of wood. Despite the fact that she'd been around magic her entire life, Sierra was still amazed at how some of it worked.

After retrieving a pair of gloves and some goggles and putting both on, Sierra picked up her wand and positioned it toward the wood. Which rune was she doing again? Oh, yeah--Eihwaz. At least it didn't look too hard to carve. Hmm..., just a backwards and slanted Z, right? With thoughts of overcoming her fears about Ancient Runes class, Sierra turned her attention back to her wood and said, "Intaglio Eihwaz, Eihwaz, Eihwaz..."

...and after about five minutes of saying her rune's name over and over again, she had a line--about an inch long, yes--but it was a line! She sighed softly as she realized how very long this might take her...

SPOILER!!: Sophie

The prefect didn't make any attempt to express her knowledge of Ancient Runes since it in all honesty was seriously lacking. She had not taken Runes in the two previous years since she had placed most of her attention and effort in other subjects. Sophie mouthed a 'Hello' to Sebastian before taking a closer look inside the Runes textbook that was placed in front of her.

Sebastian looked over, finally noticing Sophie sitting next to him. Oh goodness, now he was going to become eve more nervous than he originally was. Ugh! He gave a little wave to Sophie and turned his attention back to Professor Truebridge. He shook a little bit; of fear of embarassing himself and then he opened up the book to Chapter 5 as he was instructed too. Okay, so they were carving into the desk? Oh boy.

He looked over at the other people carving into the desks and took a deep breath in and out. It couldn't be that bad. Bonnie and Sophie could help him, right? Hehh. He read the chapter and shrugged. Okay, so it wasn't that hard.

He walked up and got a pair of gloves with some goggles. He put the goggles upon his face and put on the pair of gloves, taking his seat once again. He grabbed his wand out of his bag and looked through the chapter picking two runes that he wanted to carve. Okay so he would use Laguz for facing your fears, as it was what he was doing right now. As well as carving Dagaz for having a happy outcome or happy life. "Intaglio Laguz laguz laguz laguz laguz laguz." He said, carving the rune into the wood. Cool, it looked pretty good. Now on to Daguz. He mumbled, "Intaglio Daguz daguz daguz daguz daguz daguz." He messed up just a bit, but it still looked like the rune in the book. He was pretty proud of himself right now.

Lexi sighed as Jim gave her a look and walked out. Poo. Oh well. Listening to Truebs she nodded her understanding and grabbed her piece of wood as it came by. Flexing her wrist her wand slid into her hand and she gave another little sigh as she closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on the meaning of the Wunjo Rune. She had it in her mind, finally.

Opening her eyes she chewed her bottom lip once and shot a glance around the room. She got up from her table... what a LONER... and went to collect gloves and eyewear. Ugh. Those who must not be mentioned seemed to be working ... and catching things on fire. Ridiculous. Lexi was in her own little bubble back there and so she positioned her wand over the piece of wood, took a deep breath and said, "Intaglio, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo...." She watched with awe as she began to mark the piece of wood with her wand.

...

Well THAT didn't look anything like a stinkin' Rune! Ugh. She needed more concentration. Movving her wand to a different section of the wood she closed her eyes for another moment and tried to center her concentration. Opening them again she said, "Intaglio, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo..."

Kim got both the goggles and gloves then returned to his sit Kim felt uneasy as to carving and what to carve he wanted to carve Kenaz but also wanted to carve Gebo. Other then that he was sure he could do it because he had seen and used the Intaglio before.

Kim raised his hand and kindly asked "may I carve two Runes into the wood Professor?"

Protective gloves, on! Though they didn't fit Charisa's hands. They kind of just hung limp, awkwardly three sizes too big. Protective eyewear came next! But Charisa soon found that they were harder to get on than expected. She shook the gloves off her hands, making it easier for her to put on the glasses, then on came the gloves for round two.

Taking out her wand, Charisa pointed it at her desk, keeping her thoughts steadily focused on her chosen rune, Thurisaz, and its good meanings. Like the purging of the negative, study, and concentration. Yeah, definitely not conflict or hardship.

"Intaglio thurisaz, thurisaz, thurisaz..." Charisa thought hard about the rune and its beneficial uses as she recited the incantation and ran her wand over the part of the surface of the wood where she wanted the rune to appear. Gradually, the marks being scratched in began to look like a rune. Pleased, Charisa continued. "Thurisaz... thursiaziz..." DARN. Her rune stopped growing more rune-like.

Isobel walked to the front of the room and got gloves and safety goggles before returning to her seat. She took out her wand and took a breath. This seemed hard. "Intaligo," she said. Then, "Wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo, wunjo...." over and over again as she drew the pattern with her wand.

Charley entered Professor Truebridge's classroom, and was in an instant just as nervous as she had been before Potions or more. The classroom was very comfortable-looking, but there were tables instead of individual desks, meaning that she was going to have to sit next to people. It's not that she didn't like other people- she often did- but she didn't like to make many assumptions about people, so she never knew what someone was going to be like, a prospect which was thoroughly frightening. She saw that there was only one person sitting at the table closest to the bookshelf, and they were at one end, so she decided to sit there.
This is what I get for being late. I was so foolish to assume that Nathaniel would actually do something nice for me.
She weaved through the other tables, which were placed, seemingly randomly, around the fascinating room, and took a seat at the other end of the table. She saw that most of the other students had grabbed safety tools already and were practising chants, and suddenly felt clueless. She usually was the top student in her classes, but she had no idea what was going on.

ooc: I edited the post, but didn't change any of the facts; I just added a thought and corrected a couple grammar mistakes.

Raven walk unto the desk of Professor Truebridge, he smile weakly, took a goggle and a gloves. he back swiftly into his table, study the wood provided by the rune master, What it is again Intaglo --no, Intanlio -- no, Intaglio --yes it is.

How to cast and carve it by repetition of desired rune till it carve nicely.
Raven draw his wand, yes the bonding of the and with him is something funny, he feel the cold breeze of the north wind, he always fell it.
Raven now ready to conjured spell, be it no accident, please, he wish.

Raven focused his mind to word ISA , reflection, and reinforcement of magic, hope is it right.
He move his wand unto the wood, always shout, he say "Intaglio Isa Isa Isa Isa" Raven stop examine the wood "aww, just a little cut on wood" barely tired by saying word repeatedly, his hand is likely hurt but thanks no wound, well he wore this gloves, perfect protective equipment.

He try again "Intaglio Isa Isa Isa Isa Isa" he stop again the rune is likely not visible to be

However upset, irritated, or angry she was that her clothes were wet, the Slytherin quickly grabbed her wood board and book before...scooting her chair away from the table a bit so water didn't keep dripping on everything.

Fail. Epically.

Heaving a sigh, Evelyn pointed her wand at the board, the book underneath it, and quickly thought up a rune to try. Thurisaz, right? Which was a weird P looking symbol. Still, she would have rather have done this without magic surprisingly.

"Intaligo thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz..." she started in an almost quiet voice, concentrating more on the rune and the carving then anything else at the moment. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't keeping her ears open or sense of smell on the lookout for any screaming of fire or smell of burning wood. Which would mean there was another fire in the room which meant...PRETTY FIRE!

Adjusting her glasses/goggles/eye wear with her left hand as she continued to mutter the rune under her breath and cut with the wand in her right hand, the Slytherin finally stopped after a few more moments to inspect her carving.

Well...

It was totally brilliant of course. Just kinda hard to see. It was still in the shape of the Thurisaz rune, thank Merlin. She was kinda nervous it'd turn out like the Wunjo rune.
