3 - Poisons (A Theoretical Class) Hecate sat on the desk in the room, tired and worn out. It had been a long night... though... a fun night. Her stroll on the grounds was quiet and pleasant, and she enjoyed hiding behind the broomshed... Now it was time to work. And she was going to excel at it. Bring on the children. |
Potions. He seemed to be spending a great deal of time in the class. Strange considering last year. Maybe he was making up for lost time. Poking his head into the classroom, he glanced about, relieved to see that Lafay was in the room this time and there didn't seem to be any dangerous vials milling about. With a slow breath out, he moved into the room, giving a self-conscious tug to the sleeve of his shirt to pull it down a little more over the bandaging on his arm. A respectful nod was offered to Lafay as he found a seat. "Professor." Now, the question was, what were they going to be doing here? |
Selina walked into potions ever fretful. She had been taking Potions for over six months now and she still did not get basic brewing. It was too abstract of a thinking pattern for her. Selina was a wand's witch, she preferred spells and to be in the action. Perhaps that was part of the reason she was in Gryffindor. None-the-less Selina walked up to the desk and said, "Good morning, Professor Lafay." She then took her seat and saved a few at her table for her friends. |
Potions. GRIN. A very happy Lockhart, which seemed like a very odd sight these days, managed to get to the Dungeons again....after....well, yeah, that meeting. The boy actually wondered if Sierra was coming today, something told him she was. So, anyway, the boy stood by the door before letting out a, "Good day, Professor Lafay!" followed by a small nod, and then he proceeded to take his usual seat near the front. Near, okay? NOT right there at the front. Just to be clear. |
Well now, wasn't this one of her favorite times of the week. Potioons. Hmmm. Even if she did practically live next to the classroom, the Slytherin still thought she should leave just a few minutes earlier then she normally would. With her bag over her shoulder, a small grin on her face, and totally not thinking of anything in particular...Evelyn made her way into the classroom. Huh, how come Lafay got to sit on her desk, yet they didn't get to sit on theirs? Then again, did anyone even dare to try? "Good day, Professor Lafay." she made SURE to greet the woman before moving over to a desk near the front but to the side. Notebook, check! Quill, check! Cleaned counter top...not check. What in the world? Pfft. |

Charley walked happily to the dungeon classroom, a little out of breath from a speedy trip down the staircases. "Hello, Professor Lafay!!" she said with a small wave and a big smile. She sat down at a seat in the middle of the classroom on the left, took out her materials, began writing a to-do list, and waited for her friends and other classmates to arrive. |

Emily walked into the Potions classroom, eager to see what Professor Lafay had in store for them today. Emily could ahrdly contain her excitement, potions was by far her most favourite subject and she couldn't get enough. This class was exactly what she needed right now, something to distract from recent events. "Hello Professor", she said cheerfully as she took her usual seat at the front of the class. Emily took out a reem of parchment and smoothed it out onto her desk. She pulled out her ink-well and her bright blue quill and set them on her desk beside the parchement, all ready for note-taking. |

Lexi reluctantly made her way into Potions class. SIGHS. Lafay was a creeper, she didn't care what anyone else thought. Mhm. Not that she would SAY that. EVER. Hitching her bag higher on her shoulder she looked at the Potions Mistress as she entered, gave her a BIG smile, and said, "Good day Madame Lafay." Before casting a glance around for her boyfriend... Hmmm... she didn't see him so she toook a seat near the back and plopped down BY HERSELF. SIGHS. |

As she sat down Selina put her head in her hands, "No! Because I'm unprepared!" Selina said gesturing to her plethora of supplies. |
Kurumi entered the potions classroom still feel like an emotional wreck even after the talk she had had with Selina the night before. Spotting Lexi, Kurumi avoiding all eye contact and made her way towards the front of the room where she put her book down on the table and took her seat. "Good day, Professor Lafay," Kurumi said trying to sound cheerful, but sounding more meloncholy than she had intended. She looked over at Selina who was chatting perhaps a bit too much with her friends, but didn't have the energy nor the desire to say anything. |

*wants to hide behind the broomshed too* Destiny was in a rather good mood as she skipped her way to the Potion's classroom. Her happy mood might have been because she had just found an awesome new hiding spot for her chocolates OR because she knew that Lafay, deep down, considered her, her favorite student EVER. Whichever the reason, though, it wasn't important. "Hullo, Professor!" she greeted, finding nothing strange about the woman sitting on a desk and definitely not noticing how tired and worn out she looked. But even if she did find the sitting on a desk strange and even if she did notice the tiredness, Destiny wouldn't have questioned it. Everyone knows not to question that woman! Taking a seat at the table behind Evelyn, just in case a certain someone wanted to sit next to her and so she could annoy Evelyn with pssst noises and throw little pieces of paper at her head, Destiny placed her bag under the table and started rooting through it. Best chocolate hiding spot ever! |

Luin walked into the potions classroom, noticing the teacher was sitting on a desk. She shrugged and moved towards a place to sit. As she did so, she looked over and, this time, remembered to acknowledge the professor as she walked in, "Hello, Professor Lafay." she then sat down and brought out her quill and parchment. |
Maybe it wasn't her brightest idea, taking a nap before potions class, but she had been DEAD tired, so a nap was necessary. That, and her waking later than she'd plan had her pulling her hair into a messy ponytail as she rushed into the classroom. Only to realize that she wasn't late. Oh. Well she supposed that was a good thing, though she wish she'd known so she could have stopped for a snack. A polite smile was sent to Lafay as she weaved through the desks, making her way to the one Sabel occupied. "Hey Professor." Swinging her bag off her shoulder, she placed in on the floor beside her as she took a seat, sending a softer smile to Sabel. What they were doing today, she didn't know. All she did know was that they had to wear entirely too much for class. |

Kind of stunk that Lexi was getting the cold shoulder when really she adored her little lioness pal. Oh well. Nothing new really... someone being upset about something that she DIDN'T really DO to wrong someone. Clearing her throat, Lexi looked away and focused on her book instead. Hopefully Kurumi would let the ANGST go for Potions... or Lafay might eat her or somefink. |
It seemed to Mia that she was forever down in the Potions classroom and it was by far her least favourite class. Not because of the Professor or the content of the class. Because she had to really concentrate in this class and that wasn't exactly her fortay. But oh well. She was here yet again. Stepping into the classroom, Mia gave the Professor a faint smile. "Good day Professor Lafay." She was almost tempted to ask the woman what was wrong because she was looking particularly haggard. But yeah. Mia wasn't that stupid. Instead she walked further into the room and took the seat behind Destiny, who was sitting behind Evelyn. All they needed now, was for Marie to sit behind her. Hehe. |

Lucy entered the class potions was not really her favorite. But it happened that she liked Professor Hecate, she was lovely according to Lucy. She saw for a seat and went and sat there and said "Hey, Professor! how's the day?" she said and smiled waiting for an unusual reply.. |

Cass entered the Potions classroom and took a seat in the back in a corner like he normally does in every class. "Hello Professor." He says as he takes he seat and waits for the class to start. |
K-Lee peeped into the room. Not late? Good. "Hello professor!" She said as she walked in, taking a spot in the middle where she wasn't in the direct line of the fury from the Slytherin head of house. Yawning, she looked around to see who else was there. Merlin she was tired! She hadn't slept well the previous night. Stupid dinosaur nightmares. |
Cass walked into the classroom with undisguised ease, she was sure that she wasn't late, besides, the classroom is practically right next door to her common room...so, no need to worry. Then she straightened her robes, and walked over to the professor's desk "Good Day Professor Lafay." She said before she took a seat in her usual spot. |
Dianna entered the potions classroom with an air of grace. Or at least for her she did. "Good Day, Professor Lafay." she smiled as she took a seat in front. The Professor seems tired.. |
Jake had shed his outer robes once again and they were tucked over his messenger back which hung low on his side. He was looking thinner than usual, and his blond hair was once again back to a normal length (that is... well... let's just call it Bieber hair). Without saying a thing to the woman at the front of the class, or even looking to her, Jake made his way to the very back of the room, figuring maybe he'd get more peace back there. He set his bag down beside his chair thannnnng and took a seat, elbow on desk, head in hand, looking towards the door and watching for any others to enter. |

Gliding into the classroom, Patroclus beamed a massive smile at Lafay, "Good Day Professor Lafay!" The Lion didn't understand the reasoning for everyone to fear Lafay, she was strict, but not a monster......unless a potion had made her one! Taking his seat right next to a certain extra special someone, the Lion had to comment on the weird seating arrangment the She-Snakes and Mia were currently in, "Is this a massage line?" |
Marie decided it was time she actually went to a class since she had been slacking lately. So what better class than her favorite one to go to. Yes, potions was her favorite class and Lafay... well she wasn't her favorite professor but she didn't dislike the woman as much as she used to. Wandering in she immediately seen her friends... Evelyn, Destiny and Mia... all sitting at different tables? Well that was odd. Not wanting to choose which of them to sit with she decided to sit at the table behind Mia. "Good morning Professor." she said as she made her way to that table... The one that happened to be at the back of the room... her favorite place. Now to see who would actually come sit with the girls... and apparently Patroclus was going to be the one to sit with Destiny. Hehe, she should have known. Not seeing Finlay or Matty she wondered if either of them would be coming to class. Hmm, maybe she should send a howler to Matty to make sure he was awake. :mwaha: |
Potions. ... ... Potions. Helena loved this class. But... she was kind of... afraid. Of professor Lafay, of any possible creature cruelty, of being in the dungeons... she didn't know. But the thing she knew; she was afraid. "Hello, professor," the girl smiled towards the woman, then sat down where she usually sat. |
I was looking for my tie. No. I misplaced my ID. Like thats needed. I was collecting my notes. Like he ever cared. I overslept. Like that will go down easy with his Head of House. Salander sprinted out of the dorms, up the Common Room then across the hall and skidded to a halt just outside the Potions door. He poked his head by the doorway. Plenty of students were already there, but it doesnt look like the Professor has started yet. Entering the classroom like he was on a leisurely stroll he made like he was whistling until he cheerfully greeted the Potions Mistress "Good Morning Professor Lafay!" Rough night? Hehe. He smoothly settled into a seat next to his lovely Gryffindor blonde "Good Morning Pretty Princess!" he murmured as he gave Lexi a quick peck on the cheek, then faced front alive and attentive. Then by the side of his mouth he mumbled "I hope you brought your book and notes with you because I didnt bring a thing." |

Another potions class..... Caroline was about to explore into giggles with excitement. Calm down Caroline, she told herself. She walked into the classroom. She made the curve of her smile on down slightly as she walked into the classroom. "Hello and Good morning, Professor Lafay." Why did everyone think that Lafay is mean, She didn't think that. You are treated the same way you treat the person back, right? She saw her little sister, Helena well that's what she calls Helena anyway. Caroline sat the pile of books and quill that she had carried into the room with her. She didn't bring her bag like she usually did. She was afaid that she would be late, so she just grabbed up the things that she would only need to class. She smiled at Helena and sat down beside her and waited for class to begin. Quote:

Helena's hand shot in the air. "Poisons are substances that cause illness, injuries and... even organ failure or death. It depends on the poison." Uh... not so sure if the answer was the expected one, but at least she tried. |

Evan raised one eyebrow at the question with a chuckle at the effect. Professor Lafay surely knew how to draw attention, didn't she? And this seemed to be another interesting class as well, if they were to brew anti-potion. Raising his hand, he answered "It is a kind of potion that affects the drinker in a bad way... Like, it causes illnesses, and even death." |
Text Cut: PrettyPrincessBF Lexi's face lit up when Sal walked in. Hehehe. Oh and kisses too. AMAZING. Leaning in to hear what he was saying she smiled and slid some parchment toward him, dug out an exttra quill, and slid her book in between them. Turning to face him she gave a little wink and said, "Glad you're here." Quote:
"Poison is a substance that causes injury, illness, or death. It can either be a chemical type or extracts of certain plants and such. Belladona, for instance, is poisonous," Lexi said with a raised hand. |
LOL at the music Quote:
Jake looked up from where he was staring transfixed at the door, and glanced at Lafay before becoming seemingly interested in his hands. He was sure he'd entered her room before and not greeted her and she'd ignored it. But... yeah. "Oh... sorry. Hi," he said distractedly, frowning slightly as though merely this caused him to use his utmost concentration. At the question he raised his hand slightly but didn't look up. "In its most literal sense-" the best kind, in Jake's opinion "-it's something... not necessarily a potion, that is detrimental to the person who's feeling it's effects, physical effects, usually. I've heard people being described as poisonous as well." All the time he looked DOWN at the desk, or rather the edge of the desk not on the side he sat, so his head wasn't right down. |
*giggles at the music* SPOILER!!: eekgasp Huuuuuh. Watching Destiny sit...not at her table, the Slytherin girl frowned, momentarily forgetting the dirty table top that she was currently seated in front of. WAIT! Is that why Destiny wasn't sitting with her? 'Cause the table was not clean? Pffft, well, she could fix that, right? The girl loved cleaning spells! But then, Mia avoided her table too. AND Destiny's. Not that they really partnered up in any of the classes anyhow, the Slytherin stared at her Hufflepuff friend for a moment before her gaze flickered back to the Slytherin girl. Was there some sort of fight that she wasn't aware of she was even in? ... SERIOUSLY!? WAS THERE? Watching Marie sit at some completely different table then all of them, Evelyn's mouth may have dropped just the slightest as she tried to silently ask Destiny what the heck was going on- Ohhh. Ohhh, Evelyn saw how it was then. It all clicked in her mind now once she saw Patroclus sit next to Destiny. Uh huh. What clicked in her mind, she wasn't quite sure of since the class was starting and POISONS rung through her mind at the moment, but we shall be watching you Mr. Prefect Lemur Boy. Quote:
Before glancing back to Mr. Gryffindor Prefect there. Stare. |
i cant see YT from work *pouts* Salander grinned stupidly at Lexi when she slid a few vital school supplies his way. "Thank you Luv" he whispered just as the Potions Mistress called his attention. Snapping his head back to front he blurted "Yes'm. Sorry. Wont happen again." In front of you heh. Hearing the Professor's question got that smirk back on his face. Poisons... choose your-- "Poisons are toxic substances that can be either solid, liquid or gaseous state, which when taken in by the body can prove to be harmful in a very short or prolonged period of time." Sounded pretty general innit? |
Finlay really didn't get potions. It just confused him, but he was going to make an effort, because that was what a good thing to do seeing as he was at a school. So Finn was sat in potions (alongside Marie in the nice She-snakes and Mia, massage lie) attempting to pay attention. Ahh Poisions. Now the lucky thing was, he kinda already knew what that answer was. He wrote poision down onto his parchment before sticking his hand up in the air. "Isn't a poision something thats like not good for the body?" Because well it didn't sound too good. "They can cause very adverse reactions, and even death." Which sounded bad to him. |
Earlier, when Ivory had first walked into the Potions classroom she'd been prepared for the usual strict, glaring persona of Professor Lafay. However, now as she began the lecture, Ivory couldn't help tilting her head to the side in scrutiny. There was something different about the Professor today...something not of the norm. Could it be...was the Professor in a good mood? Hmmm. Well if she was, she certainly was not going to be the one to pull her out of it. Nope, not today. She hadn't had an accident in potions class in more than a year and she certainly wasn't about to start now. Raising a hand dutifully as the Professor asked her first question, Ivory piped up. "A poison would technically be any substance, be it liquid, solid or gas, that would cause damage to an organism," Finding that she felt a need to elaborate on something though she continued. "But Professor, in reality couldn't anything be considered a poison? Everything has a harmful aspect to it no matter how small a quantity so in theory it would depend on the dosage of something harmful given to determine if it was a poison?" The whole statement sort of ended on a quizzical note, since well she wasn't exactly sure of her words. Just putting in her two cents worth. |
Lucy quickly raised up her hand as knew the answer it was very common and said "Prof. Poisons are substances that causes harm to organisms when consumed or when the skin gets into contact with it." she that she brought her hand down. |
Poisons. Alex was not at all surprised by Lafay's choice in subject matter--after all, this was LAFAY. The professor that Sierra had been all fangirly over when they first arrived at school. Now that he thought about it, he really hadn't talked to Sierra much since that meeting in Lafay's office...hmmm. He should probably attempt to hang out with her. If she wasn't busy being all Slytherin-y. Just the fact that Sierra seemed to love her Head of House so much instantly got her on Alex's watch list. If Sierra liked her so much...it couldn't mean good things for Alex. He raised his hand at the professors question. "Poisons are usually chemicals or substances that can cause harm to whoever comes into contact with them...they can even kill you if you come into contact with the right amount. Usually they're ingested, and usually more effective that way..." he added, his voice trailing off. Whoaaa. It hadn't hit him until he said that how CREEPY poisons were. ZOMG SHE WAS GOING TO POISON THEM ALL WASN'T SHE?! If anyone had figured out how to poison people and make it look like an accident, he was sure it was HER. |
Jaina knew this one! "Professor, poisons are a substance that in either a gas, liquid, or solid state can attack vital organs and how they function.". She had read Romeo & Juliet and then got curious about poisons. Joshua had to get her a ton of mystery books then along with science books on how poisons worked. |
Quote:
Thinking. She was thinking. Oh! A question. "A poison is a substance that makes you really ill, stops a body function and even kills you when it is eaten, inhaled or absorbed by your body." she said while politely raising her hand. Yeah. She'd read her potions text book. |
SPOILER!!: Lafay and Ev (aka Josh's Ladies lol) Just like how Mistress Lafay looked, Josh seemed to be tired today as well for he had spent all night taking showers over and over. Plus he had to deal with his all dirty and disgusting school uniform. He did not have many shirts, ties, robes...etc like some others did. So it had been an all cleaning night. Hopefully he managed to do it. At least no part of his school uniform was stinking anymore and he considered this a victory. VICTORY! Tapping on the desk lazily, he listened to everyone who stated their ideas about what posion was, his dark eyes landing on each classmate as they spoke...of course the careful and curious gaze of those eyes was directed at Evelyn a little bit(!) longer than the others when she uttered her idea. Hmmm. He wanted to say something too but on the other hand he did not want to repeat what the others said so... Looking back at Mistress Lafay, the Gryffindor boy seemed to think over something hard but it did not last long and the next moment a half smile appeared on his face. ''Professor...'' he said confidently raising his hand and dropping it right after standing up to face her properly. ''I do agree what my friends have said about poison, so far. But there's something else i want to add. There's another characteristic of it. And its pretty common. Poison is something dangerous, harmful and even sometimes fatal, yes. But also it is alluring which makes it more dangerous. What i mean that something poisonous is always attractive to living things and when that living thing is caught by that attraction it is really really really hard to fight the urge and stay away from it.'' Once he completed this last sentence, he took a quick breath and as he did so, he did not forget glancing at Evelyn once more who was sitting...alone. Huh? Why were not the other She-Snakes sitting with her? Maybe, maybeee this was an open opportunity for him. Yes, it definitely was. Again looking back at the Potions Mistress the Gryffindor went on his words ''For example, you know, most beautiful flowers or plants are those most poisonous ones and poisonous animals usually have bright colours to attract the prey. I shall and can even demonstrate a living example of this right now'' the boy seriously nodded but smirked inwardly. ''Just excuse me'' Then he left his desk, walked towards Evelyn's and stopped right next to her indicating the Slytherin girl to thr whole class and to the professor. ''Here. That is just a perfect example of what i am trying to say'' Then smiling warmly at the snake girl, Josh sat down next to her and moved a little bit to make himself comfortable. He was noooow done! Hehehe. |
Mia had started to raise her hand to give the exact same answer as everyone else when that Gryffindor boy, Josh started to speak. Oh. My. God. Did he just do that? In this class? And what was he trying to say? That Evelyn was a beautiful, poisinous creature? Okay her friend did have a sharp tongue at times but Mia wouldn't call her poisinous. With her hand still halfway in the air, she cleared her throat. "I agree with that Josh kid. Not about Evelyn but the other things he said. I will add, that not all poisons are illegal either. Alcohol can be considered a poison. It causes harm to your body and excessive drinking can eventually kill you." |
Quote:
Sierra spotted her brother seated across the classroom. They hadn't said much to one another in months, but their twelfth birthday was coming up soon, so she guessed it would be nice to try and reconnect with him. Coming to Hogwarts had nearly killed any closeness they'd once had. Well...it wasn't her fault he'd gone and gotten himself sorted into Hufflepuff. She turned her attention to Lafay and raised her hand. "Poisons are substances that can be deadly or make you seriously ill, but they have other uses, too," she said. She lowered her hand before saying anything else. "Some poisons can be used to control insects and weeds or as an antidote to other poisons--like a snake's venom." ...and on that note, she might have given a few nearby Hufflepuffs a wicked-looking smile. |
Kururumi listened to her classmates' answers for a little before raising her hand to offer her own. "Professor, all materials have the potential to be a poison - although most people first thing of things like arsenic compounds to be them. A poison is is any product or substance that can harm someone if it is used in the wrong way, by the wrong person, or in the wrong amount. For example, I have a friend who is allergic to mangoes and, if she ate one even in a small amount, it could be fatal to her. What makes a poison different from a toxin or a venom is that a poison is something ingested through the gut or skin, while the other two are absorbed through different methods such as an animal bite." |

SPOILER!!: Josh...oh goodness. lol Turning her attention away from Patroclus and to another certain Gryffindor in this room that she hadn't noticed until now … ….. Okay, what? Staring at the table as he went on about flowers, beauty, and attracting prey, her gaze traveled towards him as...he appeared next to her. Ha. Haaaaaaha. Huh. "Hmm, lovely." she said, scrunching up her nose slightly as she forced a tiny smile. "Though, if I may add...something poisonous doesn't always have to be beautiful or attractive. It can be somewhat plain-fully obvious to the eye and unpleasant to experience...as if caught in a thorn bush. The thorns just keep poking you painfully in the side until you just can't take it anymore..." Wiping off her sleeve, she sighed a dramatic sigh as her fake smile turned to one of sweet innocence. "And it is only until you finally learn to just...stay away, that it'll all get better." HINT!? Hint hint hint....WHYYYYY are you, Mr. Carter, sitting in the seat next to her? |
Poisons. Jacob knew what those were... sort of. He quickly raised his hand. "Its a thing..." good start. Come one brain. Work. "Its a thing, that makes you Icky and Sicky" yes! Maybe.... no? What ever. at least he gave an answer. |

Chloe listened to how her classmates responded to the professors question. They seemed to have it right but she felt there was juat a little more to add. Chloe raised her hand and said, "I believe a poison is any substance that can make you sick, weak, or cause a painful reaction. Not all poisons are fatal. Its depends on the amount injested or that came in contact within skin.". |

Selina had just begun to head her paper when Lafay had opened the floor to the answer to her question. The room began to scuffle with the excitement of everyone's answers. Selina rose her hand and said, "Ma'am, a poison is a substance that is harmful to a vital part of the human body. These substances can be found in nature and when if taken in a high enough dosage can be fatal. Of course they do not have to be." |
Nika took out a piece of parchment and a quill from her bag and got ready to start taking notes. She looked at her professor and thought about the question she had asked. "A poison is a... a... a thing that if exposed to you can harm you or even kill you! That's why it's important to steer clear of them." She looked at her professor with a worried expression on her face. Oh no. Poison. What does this mean. Whatever it is it can't be good. |
"Poison is a substance with an inherent property that tends to destroy life or impair health. It is a corrosive element that can either kill you in a really fast or slow painful way or make you sick with nasty side effects. Poison, as I learned from books, was very popular in Monarchial Times, making all theroyals wary of what they eat," Elle answered. She hoped she had provided the right amount of information to answer Professor Lafay's question. |

Well it sounded right anyway. |
Destiny watched as Mia and Marie walked into the classroom, silently hoping they would walk right by her desk. When they did, she made sure to turn her head and see where exactly they sat and she couldn't help but feel just a tad bit uncomfortable with Mia sitting directly behind her. They seemed to act alike sometimes and with what Destiny was thinking of doing to Evelyn, she was afraid that Mia would throw little pieces of paper at her head. Marie she wasn't so worried about. A punch flying would be easier to block than a paper ball. Hmm. She would have kept her eyes on both her friends, but it was rather hard since she was sitting in front of them both. And why would she want to pay attention to them when she had someone better to pay attention to sitting next to her? HEHEHEHE. Giving Quote:
What is a pooooooison? Snickering at Mia's answer, she raised her own hand. "A poison is something your parents tell you something is so you won't eat or drink it. Like that piece of cake sitting on the counter that they want to eat when you go off to bed." Pfft. Destiny ate it anyway. |
Wow. Patroclus really needed to have a chat with Josh, he was kinda out of control, yes his answer was a really good one, all bar the part where he used Ev as an example, that wasn't cool. However the girl beside him was the essence of cool, and so was that cake she was talking about! Whispering very softly he asked, "You ate it, didn't you?" He didn't really need to wait for a reply, this was Destiny after all! "Professor, just something to add to my classmate's answers, is that poisons are generally when discussed in relation to biology they are divided into two subsections, one being toxins and the other venoms." Now back to thoughts of |

Oh, for Merlin's sakes. "No, Miss Shepard. That is not true." Destiny would be the cause of someone's death in this class if they listed to the her. She turned to the whole class. "If I tell you something is a poison, even if it MAY be a poison and you are not sure of it, Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, touch or ingest it." She opened a drawer, removed a chocolate chocolate chunk cookie, and a vial. Then she summoned a sugar lump from the tea set to her back. She placed the cube in a mortar and with the pestle... and a little magic, turned the granules into powdered sugar. She then added a few drops of the liquid in the vial making it into a glaze. It smelled different to everyone. It smelled like your favorite sweet. To Hecate it smelled like dark black cherries. Then with a brush, she layered the stuff on the cookie. Lifting the cookie she showed it to the class. It looked delicious. "This is poison." She said. "If you would like me to prove it, I will summon a rat from inside the wall... and test it." She wasn't kidding. After putting the cookie back in her desk, she made her way back to Destiny, and placed both her hands on the girl's table "Your parents may lie to you to keep you in line. I won't lie to you." She leaned forward and whispered so only Destiny could hear. "I, Miss Shepard, have other ways..." Quote:

"Continuing... Can you name a poison, and where you find it. One per student." She asked the class. |

Now... a poison. She raised her hand. "Does the snake venom count? As for the place you can find it, it's... obvious," the girl said, then slowly let her hand fall back on her lap. |

"Don't. Ask her. To prove it," Jake said, suddenly quite sternly, from the back of the room. He was addressing the students at large here, and though he'd been all mopey and distracted, his eyes FLASHED with fury at the thought of poisoning a rat. "Please, you guys." Then he calmed... somewhat... and raised his hand. "Aconite, which is also called wolfsbane or monkshood. It's a plant..." Yeah. That was all he was saying. |

Oh. The rat. Noooo, no. Definitely no. It was enough to see those lobalugs killed back then... She surely didn't want to see a rat being poisoned. And being poisoned by Lafay... MUCH worse. So... no. No, thank you. |
Wait. Lafay was going to poison a rat? Or was at least threating to poison a rat. Well that was just weird, and Finn was pretty sure that they all knew what a poison did without having to be shown. At least he was sure. Hopefully Lafay wouldn't end up poisioning a rat, because he was pretty sure that it would be rather awkward. Thankfully the professor had moved on, and now Finn was trying to think of a posion. Now he was pretty sure he knew at least one, because well he would've been pretty stupid if he really didn't know what at least one poision was. "I think the bite of a Black Widow Spider is considered poisonous" He at least hoped it was anyway, or he was going to look a bit silly, but then he was only trying. "and can be found in Northen America I think." |
Hehe, that’s right Josh! Go back to your own seat. This one was taken! It was taken…by her bag; or would have been if he hadn’t sat there. Raising a brow at Destiny’s answer, the Slytherin girl snickered quietly before quieting down rather quickly, the other brow meeting the first one. Erm… Why the heck would someone eat something that Lafay deemed poisonous? That’s why. Didn’t the professor KNOW that Destiny couldn't resist chocolate!? And didn’t the professor not like her class being compared to baking? Yet here they were, placing chocolate in the Slytherin girl’s line of view, and creating little poisonous cookies. OMG, that sounded so familiar for some reason. Huuuuh. Getting the faint scent of strawberries suddenly, Evelyn blinked before clearing her mind of memories as she watched Lafay move over to Destiny. Wow. Scary moment. Speaking of horrible sweets however… "Theobromine can be rather poisonous." She said after raising her hand. Smiling her gaze maaaaay have turned to Destiny as she leaned against her table slightly. "It's found in chocolate." Giggle. Of course, she wasn't going to mention that it mostly affected animals either. Yush, she had done her research on the ghastly food. Bleh. |
Sabel returned Arya's smile before drawing his attention to the class. For once, there was no worry in him when Lafay announced the topic of discussion, though glancing around there was more than one student who looked stark terrified. Instead of agreeing with them, he felt a little sorry for Lafay that everyone was intent on viewing her with fear. Not that she didn't give them reason to, but her reasons for doing so weren't the same as he had seen them before. It was because of that new perspective that he couldn't help but smile at some of Lafay's comments, especially those to Destiny. The Professor had a different way of handling the situation, that was for sure. Lifting his eyes and his hand, Sabel offered his own answer to Lafay's question; only once his expression was level and solemn again. "Some cardiogenic toxins are poisonous. Such as those in the Doll's Eye plants; the tissues contain specific toxins that sedate cardiac muscles." |
*bugeyes* Sweet Merlin! Destiny didn't even have a chance to answer Patroclus before Lafay started to go all crazy and threaten the class with poison. Of course that's not what was really happening, but Destiny was a little to HORRIFIED at what the Professor was doing to that chocolate cookie to think otherwise. Her eyes were wide as the woman explain that she had just POISONED the thing and she quickly shook her head at the mention of summoning a rat to test it. No way! What if the rat that was summoned was her rat!? No way was she going to let the Professor KILL Marcus. And just to be on the safe side, Destiny sent a little glaaaaare at everyone. She was watching them all. Until Lafay was all up in her face and even though she knew she was Lafay's favorite student, it was rather terrifying. Especially those whispered words. SO SCARY! Her eyes were even wider as the Professor walked away and she glanced around the room once more. Did anyone see that? No? Good! Destiny was kinda scared to answer the next question. Merlin knew what Lafay was going to do if she answered the question wrong, but she HAD to answer. She needed to REDEEM herself! She raised her hand slooooowly. "That cookie is poison." Duh! "And it can be found in your drawer." |

Evan looked at Jake for a moment, before nodding slightly more to himself, though Jake could still take it for himself. Yeah, surely nobody was going to ask for a proof, were they? He was definitely taking her word for it, and so should everyone. Raising his hand to give an answer, he said "Ammonia is a highly poisonous substance..." Pausing for a moment to remember all, he said "And it is even produced by all the animals... but then most of the animals change it to urea immediately." God bless his liver. |

And then something hit her. "Professor," she said, raising her hand, "I don't know if this can be called a poison but carbon monoxide is pretty harmful. And all i know is that you can find it in cigarette smoke." |
Spike thought for a moment, before raising his hand. "Death cap mushrooms are poisonous," he said softly. "I don't know exactly what the poison in them is called - amanit...something, maybe? - but it mainly affects the liver and kidneys." Or at least, that's what he'd been told when his father had found some suspicious looking fungi in the woods where Spike had his den. And as for testing it on a rat... Spike's eyes narrowed. He wasn't a fan of rats, but then many people weren't fans of tarantulas - and Spike definitely wouldn't have allowed that. It was still innocent. And it wasn't for another useful reason either. He crossed his arms across his chest. She'd better not test the poison, even if she was just stringing them along. |

Emma sat and watched Droo dip the cookie in a delicious liquid, which also happened to be poison. The young Malfoy could smell the poison from where she was sitting. It smelt like the chocolate raspberry cake that her mother use to make when she was little. Better not touch or eat anything in any of her classes, thought Emma as she watched Lafay ask everyone to name a poison. A poison. Hmmmm.. LEAD! LEAD POISING! She remembered hearing news about it, when she read the muggle newspapers, not that she told anyone about it... The blonde raised her hand. "Lead is a poison. Well, if its inhaled, or if its contaminated food or water supplies and a person or animal has eaten it. Lead pigments were and are found in lead paint of old houses. Lead paint was used on Muggle children's toys. " she said, confidently and then wondering what the Potions teacher would say in return. |

She quickly looked around to make sure no-one asked her to do it. Good. Everyone else seemed to be worried for a rat too. Now for the question. "Um. Does poison Ivy or poison oak count?" she asked nervously "You can find them mostly in woods, but even your garden and fields." Please don't shout at her scary potions mistress! |

Kurumi's jaw dropped when Dragon Lady revealed a COOKIE and announced to the class that it was a poison. A COOKIE! That had to be illegal to make a COOKIE a poison. Kurumi continued to stare for several moments unable to believe that the COOKIE was what the Potion's Mistress said it was and was about to raise her hand and ask just how the COOKIE was a poison when she heard the woman speak again about summoning a rat from the walls. No thank you...Kurumi really did not want to see a rodent's life leave its body right in front of her eyes. Still...how could a COOKIE be a poison?! Kurumi shook her head to wake herself up from the shock when Dragon Lady addressed the class once more. "Professor, non-magical people have developed many types of poison to kill unwanted things One of those it called herbicide and it kills unwanted plants which is why it is also called a 'weedkiller'," Kurumi explained before returning her hand to the table. Was that the connection? All classes had something to do with the non-magical world this term after all. |
Lexi raised her hand once more and cleared her throat before calling out, "Professor, the Oleandor plant is considered the most deadly in the world. Belladonna, or Deadly Nightshade is among the top five as well." Did anyone else think it was a bit unsettling that the little Gryffie seemed to know so much about poisonous plants? Heh. Beware ye who maketh this child mad. |
Sitting in the back, dark, corner of the room, sat "Master" Benjamin Trevors. He was getting immensly bored of this Potions class, since they weren't brewing anything. But, he was comfortable leaning back in his chair, watching the class as it progressed, listening to all of the absurd answers they were giving seeing as they were all magical beings, and all. He quickly dropped the chair back on all fours and had his hand raised. "Professor? I believe there is one answer that hasn't been observed yet." He looked around at all of the purebloods and half-bloods who claimed they were so smart. " That answer is the bite or stab of a basilisk tooth. No matter how old it gets, it still keeps the venom. Same as an acromantula." |
Text Cut: Droo ...she smiled? Lafay had smiled at her? Sierra had arrived at this school with the goal of impressing her Head of House. She'd sought approval from her, even during the times when she could have cared less what anyone else thought. That smile, that tiny little indication that there was some sort of approval there, left Sierra with a mixture of shock and pride. She briefly returned Lafay's smile before putting all her attention into whatever was about to happen to that cookie. She watched with fascination as the professor turned a single, delicious-looking cookie into a poison. It was a good demonstration, and one Sierra would remember forever. Another question had quickly been asked, though, and the cookie had stored away for another day and another time. "All parts of the Moonseed plant are poisonous," she said, her hand raised. "I think the parts are even used in a poison called the Moonseed Poison." She didn't really know much about the Moonseed Poison, but she'd heard it mentioned a time or two--probably by her sister, who was also a Potions Mistress. "It's found in woods and hedges." |
Mia's eyes almost bugged out of her head when Lafay suggested poisoning a rat. If she did that then she was out of there. There was no way that she could sit there and watch an animal die because of an experiment. She gulped a little when she covered the cookie in a poison and placed it in front of Destiny. Merlin! She hoped her friend could control herself with that sweet sitting in front of her. At the question, Mia raised her hand in the air. "Weedosoros, I believe is a poison." She really hoped they weren't going to practicing on animals. |
Simon took down defintitions given and approved by Professor Lafay, staying mostly quiet during the time watching and listening carefully instead. He agreeded with the class that no demonstration was needed, no need to kill a creature needlessly to prove a point, however he couldn't help glance at Kurumi for just a moment at the sight of the cookie and wondering her reaction since she was such a fan and expert of the baked good. Turning his attention back to the class as a whole, Simon heard the latest question, taken down the poisons already listed as he thought of an answer. "Poison ivy by its very name is a type of poison ," he replied after raising his hand. |

Raising her hand, "Larkspur is poisonous, particularly the young plants and seeds. The effects include nausea, muscle twitches and paralysis and is often fatal." |
Wowza! Lafay knew how to really scare people, Patroclus the Brave however was not scared, Lafay would never hurt him, he was.....with Desting, her favourite Snake! A snake which was currently in danger, as a chocolate coated biscuit had been placed before her. Smiling at her to say, 'You can do it! You are strong enough to say no!' he watched on to make sure she didn't try to eat the cookie. "Professor, the use of an un-matured Veritaserum to can also be classifide as a poison!" |

She showed the poison she had pulled from her desk. "Daphyr Poison," She said showing it. "It hasn't got a colour... though it's a little pink in shade... and it smells like your favorite sweet. It makes you want to eat it." She put it back in the drawer, "It was the first poison I ingested. Took me a few weeks to get better..." She said "Has anyone been poisoned?" |
Well...this certainly was a cheery subject to be discussing... Kurumi's eyes widened when the Potion's Mistress mentioned that it was the first potion she had ever had. Did that mean...she had had more? Kurumi suddenly had the image of her using first year Hufflepuffs to taste all her dishes before she ate or drank anything. Wouldn't put it past her to do that..."P-Professor," Kurumi said raising her hand. "You said the first...how many poisons have you ingested?" and how did you survive them?! |

Had she ever been poisoned? No, she hadn't. Not unless having a twin brother get sorted into Hufflepuff counted as a poison. She had much better sense, though, than to share that answer in front of the entire class. Having nothing else to add, she just stayed quiet and waited to hear what her classmates had to say. She did, however, wonder why Lafay had ingested a poison at some point in her past. Had she just been testing it, or had it been for something else? |

It was still interesting, talking about poisons, but a part of Helena wanted to learn how to brew more potions. But of course, there was the other part that didn't quite want that, just thinking about how many other creatures are going to die in that classroom. But anyway. Helena's eyes grew wide the moment professor Lafay mentioned something about the first poison she ingested. How MANY did she ingest until now? As for the Daphyr Poison... smelling like your favourite sweet. She didn't answer the woman's question, because she has never been poisoned. Buuut she had another question. "Professor?" The girl said, raising her hand. "Let's say that my favourite sweets are... Bertie Bott's beans," they really weren't, but that was the first name that came into her mind, "how can I tell if they're poisoned or not when I want to eat them?" She hoped her question was clear enough. |
