SPOILER!!: Professor Sage

"Right, before we can start with the Charms, we need something to ... well, Charm." Fresh out of his day dreaming, Sage blinked around the classroom. "I trust by now, most of you should know the basics when it comes to planting seeds and bulbs." He hoped so. Otherwise he clearly wasn't doing his job properly and the last thing he wanted was to get fired.

"But for those of you that don't... First things first, we need to fill our pots with soil, making sure you work out any lumps," he explained, shoving his hand in one of the various large bags of soil he'd set up around the room and dropping it into the pot. Hmmm, did Lexi want to join in? Chewing his lip unsurely, the Herbology professor nudged the pot in the direction of his colleague before addressing the class once more.

"Once your pot is filled, make a small hole in the centre. This is for your seed or bulb." He motioned to the side of the classroom where he'd set up several labelled trays containing mundane seeds and bulbs - Crocus chrysanthus 'Blue Pearl.' Trumpet Daffodil Tulipa 'Spring Green' Flame Lilies.

"Pop in the flower of your choice, cover with the soil and give it a little watering." Simple. "I'll put the instructions on the board in case you need a reminder.. any questions?"

Listening carefully to the gardening Herbology teacher, Louisa nodded almost at every sentence he was saying. She didn't help her mother in the garden for nothing, right? She knew they had this subject in the magical school.

The little girl carried a pot and went to those soil bags which stood nearby and started filling it up. Too happy that she knew these steps, her hands were the dirtiest any hands would get when she was finished. Never mind though. Her mother used to get.. dirty hands when she worked on the garden, didn't she?

So, what next? Louisa looked at the board while mopping the dirt with her robes, she didn't want to mess the cute bulb she was about to take you know and those robes were not the cleanest anyway.

Now which bulb? She closed her eyes and pointed randomly. That used to work when she chose sweets!
(Crocus chrysanthus 'Blue Pearl.') was her choice, she took one and skipped over to her pot tossing the little thing inside the hole she made and started burying it.

Lalala...MmMmMm.. Humming to herself with low voice, wasn't this class easy and fun so far or what? ^__^ She liked it!
Last step was the water!! She looked around looking for pots of water or maybe a small river? considering the size of this greenhouse. Nothing.
Aaaaaand she almost slapped her forehead when she heard the 'Aguamenti' spell! How could she forget that she was a witch! A witch!

Smiling at her stupid self, she held the wand and "Aguamenti." She knew this spell very well... it was actually one of the first spells she ever worked on so it did work well. And the little bulb was well-watered.

Keefer was still a little confused as to why Professor Carlton thought he was a girl. Maybe it's time for a haircut... he thought, eyeing his long, bright red hair. Yes, definitely time for a haircut.

Brushing his too-long hair from his eyes, he pulled a pot and some soil towards him. Pouring soil in the container, her took care to pause occasionally and break up any big lumps. Carefully placing the bulb in a tiny indentation he had made with his thumb, he covered it with earth. He reached for a watering can and poured on some water, since he hadn't yet mastered the Aguamenti charm.

Felixir 10-22-2010 01:51 PM

I've missed my long posts :3 though this isn't really 'long'...

Those flame lilies were absolutely diviiiiiine.

... errr...

Yeah.

Ahem.

Alex straightened up a little and immediately got to work. Maybe he could be remembered for being downright awesome at Herbology?

Or, you know, not.

The young man filled his pot with soil, and just thrust his hands in to sift through the stuff and find any stones, which he casually tossed aside. Once he was satisfied that this was done, the seventh year mad a fist and punched the middle of the soil, making... more of a crater than a hole, so he did it again.

"BAM!"

It wasn't working, so the boy had to be boring and make the whole like everyone else before dropping the bulb that he had collected, into it (that would be the Flame Lily... mmmmhm). He swept the soil over the top, reminded distinctly of 'tucking in' the baby bulb, and then placed both hands over the top of the soil and put all his weight on it, so he was soon enough keeping himself up with his hands, feet dangling off the floor and everything.

Alex... might have heard a weird CRAAACK! at this stage, but he couldn't be sure. The boy pulled out his wand, pointed it at the pot, muttered a quick 'Aguamenti!' and stood back.

Which was when he saw the almighty crack that went from somewhere underneath the pot to the front. His guess was it was at the back too. Letting out a strangled cry, Alex acted super quickly. "Reparo!"

And that was that. He'd survived the Planting of the Bulb.

Sarah had been in much of a daze during the first part of the lesson. Alot of talking had gone on, and she had just stared at the teachers as they spoke. The information had gone in somewhere, but it would take some effort to figure out where. Shaking her head, she glanced down at the pot in front of her, and the soil to it's left. Ohhh, yeah. Planting bulbs. Eaaaasssyyyyy. Heh.

Grabbing a handful of soil, Sarah dumped it in her pot and started to sift through it, taking out anything that looked like a stone or a weed. Tossing them all onto the table, she nodded and stuck her index finger in the air. Jabbing it down into the dirt, she wiggled a bit for extra room and set her eyes on the range of bulbs they had to choose from. Hmmm, the Flame Lillies looked lovely.

Walking over to the bulbs, she made her selection and went back to her pot. Placing it in the soil, she swept the dirt over the top of it and patted it down gently. It really was quite a calming process, and there was the end satisfaction of seeing some brilliant flowers blooming. Smiling to herself, Sarah took out her wand and took a step back. Pointing at the pot she cleared her mind and tried the spell non-verbal. "Aguamenti!"

A sprinkling of water came shooting out of her wand, and rained down on her pot, soaking the soil just enough. Dropping her concentration, she replaced her wand in it's holster and eyed the pile of stones she'd taken out the dirt. Hmm, maybe they could use them as decoration for something? A rockery?

Hum de dum. This wasn't difficult. Fletcher ignored the fuming Amber girl seated beside him and went about carrying out the tasks as Twitchy!Man had described them.

He filled up his pot to a sufficient level and then followed that by inserting one of the flame lilies into his little indentation. "There ya go, bub," Fletcher spoke softly to the plant as he proceeded to cover it back up with great swooping passes of dirt. Never mind silly things like wearing gloves; he relished in the feeling of dirt under his finger nails.

"So we water it with Aguamenti?" Fletcher raised one of his grimy, dirt-stained hands and waved it about carelessly, probably sprinkling crumbs of filth on the Gryffindor next to him. "Is that how Charms play in, professor.....s?" Cuz he wasn't waiting for a response on that one. Nope. Fletcher went ahead and sprinkled the bulb with his wand. Good times. Easy task.

Oh, yeah. They'd gotten planting stuff down to a tee. Sage observed proudly as the class got started with little to no hassle. That's what he liked to see. No casualties like there was last lesson either. Maybe Bubotubers hadn't been such a good idea.. Hm.

"Nice job everyone," Sage nodded in appreciation as he left Lexi at the front of the classroom and moved between the work stations and stopped by Fletcher who was getting his hands nice and dirty. Gloves were no fun.

"If you're confident enough with Aguamenti, it's fine to use that.. if not there are plenty of watering cans.." The question though, seemed like a nice set up for the next part of the class. Y'know, the Charms part of the joint Herbology/Charms lesson. "If you've yet to plant your seed, hurry and do so otherwise you won't have anything to 'grow' in the next part of the lesson."

He turned and eyed Lexi. Next part of the lesson? Was she ready? He hoped so!

Kurumi took out her wand, but decided to do the first part by hand just to make sure that she wasn't flinging soil all over the place.

After filling her pot with soil, and having a small pile of stones next to her, she used her thumb to make an indent in the soil and plopped her bulb in to check the depth. After making the hole just a bit deeper, she put her bulb in and covered it with soil. All that was left now was to water it. Now, she took out her wand and whispered, "Aguamenti," so that a small stream of water sprouted out of her wand. Once the soil was damp enough, she returned her wand to her pocked and waited for further instructions.

Alex started to follow the instructions as she is suppose to..
Suddenly she spot Kurumi standing just 2 feet from her.
Herbology is going to turn boring..Alex knew that.
Alex completed her plant stuff and tilt her head little to greet Kurumi.
"Hey hello Kurumi. Nice work. How do you do?"

Oh good. Because I haven't even learned Aguamenti yet! Sometimes he wondered how students in the lower years knew this spell. After all, it isn't taught til NEWT level.

Feeling slightly inadequate, he turned toward his seed. It seemed to be doing fine. Maybe it could use a little encouragement to grow. After all, Keefer considered music to be another form of magic. He hunched down over his pot and began to croon softly.

"Little seed in the ground,
Little bulb so round,
You can do it, you will see!
Come and grow, grow for me.
Stretch out your leaves,
The soil to cleave,
Blossom and bloom,
You've plenty of room.
"

Anna Banana 10-23-2010 09:31 PM

Oh, her turn now, yes?

Right. That look Sage was giving her clearly said he was ready for her to move on to the charming part of the lesson. She nodded once to him then turned her attention to the class. "Alright, class, as Professor Dodson said, if you haven't planted your seed yet, hurry and do so now," she announced.

"...and now, to charm your plant to grow faster. Now the charms will work in a variety of different ways. If you're really good at casting, and if you've been practicing charms for a while, your plant's growth rate will be increased far more than the plant of a person who's less experienced," she explained. In other words, seventh years should get ready for a fully grown plant sometime in the near future.

"The incantation is Herbivicus, and the wand movement is...," she started. She raised her wand, pointed it toward a nearby plant, and then jerked it upward as she said the incantation. "This is what you'll need to do to your own plant. Feel free to help one another if need be. You can go ahead and put the Growth Charm on your plant now..."

She put the directions on the board just in case anyone accidentally forgot.

* Point wand at flower or the place where the seed is.
* Jerk wand upward while saying Herbivicus.

ThePastelBookworm 10-23-2010 09:37 PM

she points her ponits her wand at her plant and says
Jerk wand upward while saying Herbivicus
it grows a fast rate it i do it right professor she looks at other people saying the spell.she looks at freya plant good job she said with smile

MeredithRodneyMckay 10-23-2010 10:05 PM

Oooooh, they were gonna grow them too? Cool!

Nodding her head, Sarah studied the wand movement that Professor Carlton made, following the up flick with her eyes. Looked simple enough, and from the woman's tone and choice of words, she should get ready for full blown flowering loveliness. Should. We'll see.

Pointing her wand at the pot again, Sarah flicked it upwards while concentrating on the spell. "Herbivicus!"....Was something meant to happen right then? You know, to let them know it had worked? Or maybe it was a case of just waiting to see how quickly it came up. Biting her lip she looked up the front and furrowed her brow. It would be so pathetic if it didn't work.

Kurumi looked at her cup of dirt and concentrated - that seemed to be the theme with all spell casting anyway. Concentration and visualization. Pointing her wand in the area where her bulb was buried, she jerked her wand upward and said, "Herbivicus!" The dirt appeared to have moved a little and she shoved her face into the small planter to see if she could see anything green. No such luck, but it did look like there was a tiny bump in the dirt that hadn't been there before...progress?

Holmesian Feline 10-24-2010 01:51 AM

Sounded easy enough, Simon thought to himself as he listened to Professor Carlton continue on with the lesson, explaining to the class how to use the charm on their bulb. Getting to his feet, his wand still in hand he pointed it at the small lump in his pot where the plant lay beneath.

"Herbivicus!" the Gryffindor cast with an upward jerk of his wand, focusing on imagining the bulb growing. Lowering his wand, Simon patiently watched for some reaction, soon greeted by a small growth of green above the surface of the dirt.

Wonderstruck 10-24-2010 03:04 AM

Alice listened and watched as Professor Carlton demonstrated the charms part of the lesson. She was just so pleased with her seed that she wanted to make sure she didn't do anything that could hurt it.

Alice took her wand out of her holster and pointed her wand at it. "Herbivicus," Alice said, moving her wand in the same upward motion that Professor Carlton had.

Alice watched as a small green sprout started to come out of her soil. Oooh, it was working!

"O-Oh!!" Alex looked at her plant and what she was doing. She felt very embarrass. She had to admit it she was very bad at Herbology.. Putting some water to her plant Alex admitted to Kurumi "O- You know I am bad at this. Herbology is not my cup of tea." Alex knew Kurumi is smart and intelligent may be she could ask for a help to her after all Kurumi was her friend.. "I think" Alex thought.

Kurumi looked back at her pot of dirt. "Don't worry, I'm not perfect at this either," she half laughed as she pointed her wand at the tiny mound she had just made. "Herbivicus!" she said with a little more determination as she repeated the wand movement. This time, a small green sprout appeared out of the dirt not even a half inch tall. Still, it was green, which clearly meant that it was a plant and that was much better progress than dirt moving.

Freya nodded her head when Professor Carlton demonstrating the wand movement to the class. Okay now she had to do that with her plant. She took her wand, pointed it toward her plant and she jerked her wand upward "Herbivicus!" She lowered her wand and waited for something to happen with the plant. She saw small green sprout appeared. Ohhh..It worked..!!

Aiming her wand at her plant she said,"Herbivicus" and did the exact same movement as Professor Carlton.
Ohhh it worked. Yaaaaaaay, soo it really wasnt to hard.

Did the professor talk about the growth charm ?!

"Sorry Professor Carlton, i didnt quite catch that beofre"

"Ohhhhh... those Muggle thingies...." Hmm the professor had a point there.

Fletcher turned his head back and eyed the watering cans. Huhhhh they looked kind of fun... sprinkling things was fun... so maybe he should use one of those? Even though his little bulb was probably saturated with water now?

Shrugging, Fletcher decided to acquire a watering can so he could use it in case they needed to do some more watering. And since this was a combined charms/herbology class, and he was a rather lazy teenager, he flicked his wand toward the watering cans and summoned one to his hand.

There. He happily set the watering can down on his desk, oblivious to any mayhem it might have caused by soaring through the air full (empty? half-full?) of water. The important thing was, now he was prepared for the next step!

All right. Hervicus. Herbivcuss. Herb-vici-kuss! Herbgiveakiss?

"Herb-iv-ic-us," Fletcher stated out loud for himself to hear the proper pronunciation. He dusted the dirt off his hands and then grabbed his wand and jerked it upward. "HERBIVICUS!"

Fletcher thought he saw some of the dirt fly out of his pot as the flame lily bulb seemed to be wiggling around and maybe... growing?! There was a little green sprout or too emerging from beneath the soil now... that was good.... it seemed to be getting taller too, slowly but surely.

"Would this charm work on say, a banana tree, Professor......s?" Fletcher asked, not daring to take his eyes off the miraculous, growing flame lily as he pointed his wand at it. "Just curious."

Alright, magic time! He turned towards his little seed. It didn't know it, but it was about to be a full-blown plant sometime in the near future. He took his wand out of its holster and carefully took aim.

"Herbivicus!" he said, jerking his wand upwards. Unfortunately, Keefer wasn't the most graceful person. He pulled his wand up so hard that he poked himself in the eye. "Merlin!"

Nice one, Keef. Real smooth. And the product for that effort? Nothing. The seed remained just that--a seed. No growth had occurred. Maybe the wand movement was too harsh. Well, obviously it was. He rubbed his sore eye.

Pulling himself together, he again pointed his wand at the dirt. "Herbivicus," he said, although this time with a slight hesitancy in his voice. He gave his wand a gentle flick upwards, careful to stay out of its way this time. To his great relief, the charm seemed to take hold without any injuries to himself or anyone else nearby. The plant sprang up before his eyes. "Amazing!"

As she made her way around the room, Lexi heard one of the students calling to her and asking if they were meant to go ahead and start the charm. She'd said to go ahead and get started, hadn't she? She was sure she had, as many of the students had already charmed a little sprout in their pot.

With all the chaos going on, she knew it was easy to miss something, though. "Oh, yes, you can go ahead and cast the charm on the plant now," she politely said.

Leave it to Fletcher to ask such a question. Specifically bananas, too, hmm? For some reason, she had a sinking feeling Duncan!Fletcher was getting a few ideas and might seriously attempt this on a bunch of bananas. Hmm...honestly, Lexi would be pretty interested in seeing that happen, too. She'd never actually tried enlarging fruit. She'd knew it'd been done before, though.

"Mmhmm, you can. It'd help mature the tree, plus, I'm certain it'd enlarge the bananas, as well. I've never specifically tried it, but I know it's been done," she said. "I imagine it would alter the taste of the bananas just a bit, though, if you tried the charm directly on the fruit." That was just a guess, though.

"Alright, class! If you haven't used the charm on your plant yet, please do so now!" she said.

Lilyana looked down at her pot with the lily bulb in it. She picked up her wand, checked the directions once more, and said, Herbivicus! Right after she said it, she saw a little soil move and a small sprout stick out. It was only about an inch or two tall, but hey, it was a start! Lilyana looked around at everyone else's and compared them to hers. She seemed to be alright, since hers seemed like the average of everyone else's. She smiled slightly, waiting for the next directons.

Okay, charms time...

Salander picked up his wand and aimed at his pot "Herbivicus"

The muddy soil stayed the same.

He peeked closer to the pot Awww man this isnt gonna be another transfigurations class is it? he fumed as he raised his wand to cast a stronger "Herbi--"

"--vicus..."

But as the watering can zoomed through the air, it caught the tip of his wand, aiming the spell for Kurumi's pot.

And her little half an inch tall seedling grew even more, as first sprigs of leaves started to show.

Salander looked around to where the watering can ended up "Fletcher!" the lad whined in frustration. Why was he not surprised?

"I'm tryiiiinnngg" he grumbled.

He stood up by his table and aimed squarely at the pot in front of him. "Herbivicus!" he growled with the flick of his wand. And the soil started to move... out popped the first stem-- followed by the seedcoat just about to slip off.

The Slytherin peeked closely at his pot again. Progress! But are those first leaves thats just about to come out of the seedcoat? Salander blew repeatedly on the seedling Get off coat...

Kurumi poked her little sprout and began humming to it. She had read that singing to plants supposedly made them grow faster.

After she had sung for only about a minute, the growth of her little sapling practically double and now it was a good 4 inches tall and sprouting leaves! Kurumi's eyes lit up. Singing was helping!

She looked over at Alex standing next to her. "Hey, I think if you try singing to your plant it will make it grow! Maybe the charm's effects are miltiplied by singing!"

Destiny was wide awake. Totally.

Just because she was face first in the soil did not mean she had fallen asleep. She was only trying to see the little seed hatch..or whatever seeds do while they are hidden beneath the dirt. Lifting her face up, since she couldn't see anything, she brushed the little pieces of dirt that stuck off. She might have eaten some, but it wasn't the first time and she was sure it wouldn't be the last time either.

Looking up at the board, she read the directions and..they were going to CHEAT! They were going to use charms to make the plant grow and to Destiny that was like cheating. Pfft, pffft, pfffft! They weren't allowed to cheat on their exams, but they could in class!? That made no sense!! Scoffing to herself, she pulled out her wand before reading the directions again. It seemed easy enough. Pointing her wand, she gave her wand a jerk upwards, "Herbivicus!"

It seemed like FOREVER before she could see a little sprouting. Why was it taking so long!? "Professor! If I were to use this spell say..oh, about a million times, would the plant grow even faster?"

She would wait to ask if she could 'practice' the spell in the Greenhouse.

Smiling at the fact that Destiny had used head-potting as answer, Patroclus decided that the Flame Lillie was for him! Flames, fire, red, GRYFFINDOR!

It was the perfect connection!

Returning to his seat and pulling on his gloves, Patroclus could help but notice Evelyn starring at Josh, and some mystery girl he had never seen. But Patroclus was fine with that now.......yep, fine.....totally fine.

Returning his vision to his pot, Patroclus filled it with potting mix, then buried his bulb, and added some water, "Aguament!"

Ohhhhhhhhhh cool spell! Carlton always had the coolest spells, Patroclus thought as he stopped his jet of water, and took in her instructions.

After looking around as other students began to start, Patroclus pointed his wand at the small patch of soil above his Flame Lillie, and jerked his wand upwards, "Herbivicu- Ow!

Patroclus had jerked a little to hard and had whacked himself in the face instead. Rubbing his forehead he tried again, "Herbivicus!" The soil shock alittle, but other than that, nothing visible happened.

Hmmmmm?
