Alex nodded amused, "Maybe something less dangerous, but you could.." Alex told him grinning amused.

"I'm going to give you permission to perform a hex," Sage said with a grin and with a wave of his wand conjured a minature manakin complete with moving joints. "Not on anyone in here," he warned, "but on this. Give it boils or something." He placed the manakin in a standing position in front of the Slytherin before paying attention to the herb he'd retrieved. "And I need someone else to grab a mortar and pestle and grind up some of this. It's called Fourfoil."

Whaaa? The person gets to hex a plant? Awww. Evelyn wanted to hex the plant. Leaning against the table, the Slytherin watched what the professor was doing, and wondering what in the world someone needed to hex a plant for, and why they needed to grind up Fourfoil. Fourfoil, supposedly being the plant? "I'll grind some of it...i guess." she muttered. At least something to do.

Selena raised her hand. She liked volunteering for stuff... it was quite interesting. "I'll volunteer to grind the Fourfoil," Selena offered.

Alex blinked having not expected this one, she nodded pulling her wand from its spot behind her ear. She moved her wand in the boil hexes movement and casted, "Furnunculus." hitting the manakin and causing it to grow boils. She loved using magic in class, though Transfiguration was still her favorite.

"Here, all three of you can grind some," Sage said, pulling off some of the stalks and leaving a few infront of all three of the volunteers. More Slytherins he'd noticed. "Grind it up as much as you can. The finer it is the better."

While he was giving Fourfoil to the volunteers, he noted that Alex had gone ahead with her task and given the manakin boils. How old was that kid? And she was already good at hexes... frightening. "Nice job.." he smiled, nervously.

Balvir 06-19-2010 03:21 AM

Zane grounded up the plant and handed it back to Professor Dodson. "Is that to rough or to fine?"

iBeJenn 06-19-2010 03:21 AM

Selena glanced at the stalk. Hehehe. She glanced at the mannequin that Alex had hexed. Ooh. Boils... this was probably something to get rid of it? Selena got to work on grinding it. Spinnie, spinnie~ Yup, Selena probably ate sugar before class... again. she continued to grind the Fourfoil with the pestle. When she deemed it fine enough she showed it to the professor, "Is this alright?" she asked. It looked a bit powdery-ish. Was it supposed to look like this?

Alex realised the Professor was nervous..of her! "Thank You, Professor." Alex repiled replacing her wand beind her ear grinning at Zane amused, it seemed this Professor was a little scared of her knowledge of hexes. Price of being a total bookworm she knew..and a Slytherin.

Eep. Looking at the Fourfoil, Evelyn stared for a moment before taking her own mortar and pestle out of her bag. Yup, she always brought it to Potions and Herbology. Only classes that really needed it. Technically, Herbology didn't, but it was nice to just be prepared. And prepared she was!

Putting the stalks into the mortar, Evelyn looked over at the professor for a moment, hearing that they should grind it as much as they can, a small smirk appeared on her face as she looked back down at the plant pieces in front of her. Hehe. She should imagine it as Rex's face. Or Stutters! Or her parents...

Yea, that last one was pretty good. Starting to grind the Fourfoil, imagening her parent's faces in it, she stopped after a couple of minutes and looked at her work. Seemed pretty fine to her. Glancing at the others who were asking the same thing she was thinking, the Slytherin looked up to the professor and scooted her little stash of Fourfoil towards him for inspection.

Well, they were fast workers he had to give them that. A bit on the scary side, but definitely fast workers. "They all look perfect," Sage nodded in approval and took Zane's ground Fourfoil first. He then moved back towards Alex's desk where the boily manakin stood. "So, does anyone want to take a guess as to what the ground Fourfoil is going to do? Remember, this is still a plant that an Auror might find useful."

HaRoHeGiNeLu 06-19-2010 03:34 AM

"Tell whether the boils were caused by a hex?" Maybe? Possibly?

Roselyn 06-19-2010 03:34 AM

"Cures someone who has been hexed?" she asked, glancing at the boil covered plant. That is, if they didn't have a wand on them or something. Eesh, she did noooot want to be that plant at the moment. Poking her mortar, she did however glance around to see where Destiny was at. Hopefully she wasn't still playing with the blood petals.

Kris 06-19-2010 03:37 AM

Alex thought about it, she didn't really know to be honest, she had a guess it could be used to heal the boils..but how is that useful, "Could it transfer boils to something else?" Alex asked knowing it was incorrect, at least she was trying for once.

Balvir 06-19-2010 03:45 AM

Zane thought about it, and the obvious answers had been said already. He racked his brain trying to think of something, but nothing came to mind. He grabbed his quill getting ready to jot down more notes.

BearyMay 06-19-2010 04:37 AM

Dianna raised her hand.
"I guess fourfoil can cure boils? Or do something about them.." she said.

Determined not to let anyone cow him into silence, Freeman raised his hand yet again. "Just to clarify," he said, looking only at Professor Dodson's chin, "The flower reacts based on the person's own physiological response to whatever they are saying. So if the person believes they are telling the truth, it won't react, even if someone else knows otherwise. And the flower didn't explode for Gold, not because it is judging she has plenty of shoes, but because she herself doubts what she said. In other words, the flower isn't all-knowing. It's just measuring your electro-dermal activity. Is that correct?"

He put his hand back in his lap. Let them mock him. He was still going to get top grades in this class.

The Ravenclaw was starting to get on her nerves. Gold shrugged, and turned her attention back to nice!Professor Dodson. Giving a nod, when the professor confirmed her thoughts on the matter, she took a few notes. Though she was disappointed she didn't get another try, with the Fluffletuff Bloom. But she could pay Professor Dodson a visit, later.

Maybe he would let her have another try, then?

She sure hoped so.

Gold had raised a hand to volunteer, even gotten as far as saying, "I can grind some of that, si -" but then she had realized at least three other people had already spoken up and lowered her hand.

She raised it again now, though. "Can it help detect if the boils were caused by magic and, if so, what kind?" she suggested. "Gauge what kind of spell was cast on the target object, or when?"

Lowering her hand, she poised her quill on top of her notebook, all ready to take notes. Fun class!

Waterloo 06-19-2010 12:51 PM

Most of the students had piped up with a fairly similiar type of answer and so Professor Dodson gave another nod of his head. "Fourfoil is an ancient herb that grows in marshlands, and although it looks normal.. it's not." The Professor took a sprinkling of the ground up Fourfoil and dropped it on the hexed manakin.

And then he waited.

Just as he'd expected, a thick grin mist began to emit from the object. "The Fourfoil responds to objects that have had magic cast upon them," he explaned through the green fog with a few blinks. With a wave of his wand, manakins appeared on the desks infront of all the students and Sage moved around the room to hand them all a few stalks of the herb. "Give it a go yourself. Furnuculus is actually a curse, and so the mist appears green. Hexes will emit a yellow mist, jinxes are red.. and charms will turn the mist blue."

Hmm. Maybe he hadn't thought this through. The classroom would be a rainbow fog.

BearyMay 06-19-2010 01:11 PM

Dianna looked at the mannequin and then at the stalks of herb given by the Professor.
"So, where allowed to hex, jinx, charm and curse the doll?" she asked.
Woah this was cool!

Kris 06-19-2010 01:31 PM

Alex blinked was the Professor slightly unhinged? He just gave the students permission to hex manakins..which was never smart. Alex had a question about the herb..flower thing so she raised her hand, "Professor, what color would the Histedius Spell turn in to?" Because as learned in DADA Histedius was actually two different types; a hex and a jinx if she recalled correctly.

"As long as it's JUST the doll," Sage warned, one eyebrow raised. He trusted them enough, but just incase.. "No Unforgivables obviously."

Sage gave his beard a scratch. Histedius? "Histedius is used to cause discomfort for more ... malicious reasons," he said slowly, "therefore I'd class it more as a hex." But that was just him. "Give it a go and see what the Fourfoil classes it as."

Alex gave the Professor a look, Histedius was useful if you wanted to surprise someone, she would personally think it of mostly a mix or if she had to classify it as something then a jinx because it was crafted after the Knockback jinx. Waiit did he want her to try out Histedius? Alex sighed pulling out her wand and moving it as Professor Truebridge told them to, chanting, "Histedius." causing three green rings to appear and strike the manakin in front of her desk. Well Now..wait and see what color it turned into she decided putting her wand away.

"Yes Professor." Dianna said. She then took out her wand and thought of a spell.
Having thought of one spell that she was noted for she pointed her wand at the mannequin. Suddenly all of the doll's hair fell off.
Getting some herb she sprinkled them on the hair-less doll, a green mist appeared.
"Blech, It's horrible!" she said as she waved the mist away from her.

PattyH. 06-19-2010 04:22 PM

These plants were incredible, so far the Blood Blossoms were Patroclus favourite, but the mist causing Fourfoil was giving them a run for their money.
Patroclus pointed his wand at the Mannequin and spoke, "Engorgio!" The doll rocked then grew to twice its size. Scoping up some of his grounded Fourfoil he sprinkled some of the flower on the Mannequin and marveled as blue mist emited from the flower and settled on the floor.
"So cool!"
