Blood plant? Sounds... blech.

Ellie liked the answers already said, and couldn't think of anything better. So she sat. La dee dah.. This is so unlike her..

Selena looked at the red plant. "Could it be used in potions for blood replenishment? As well as used for determining blood types?" Selena offered after she raised her hand. "Does it also show where blood was last if it was cleaned up before hand?" Selena asked. The plant was red... her least favorite colour. But still... it was quite interesting.

The professor simply gave a slight nod and grinned at this answer.. that was either a VERY good guess or Nymphy had seen these plants before..

"That's a pretty neat guess," Sage smiled, "and you're half right too. Good job."


Changing colour according to blood samples? These kids were good. But then again, Sage supposed it was kind of all in the name. Blood plants anyone? Heh. "Anyone that stated that the petals change colour are correct," he announced to the class as a whole, "and Gold is quite right in saying that the colour should change a different shade based on the age of blood it comes into contact with. Petals from the blood plant come in VERY handy when Aurors are investigating."


"They're not very good at absorbing blood," Sage shook his head at the scary Slytherin. "Although it would be cool if it did," there was probably another plant that did that.. "when the petals come into contact with blood, they turn violet. The brighter the violet, the more fresh the blood is," he explained. "It can't however, pick up anything older than seventy-two hours."

He took a moment before continuing and hoped the next part wouldn't freak them out.

"Now, to give us the chance to try out these petals, I set up some blood around the classroom." Cue horrified expressions? He'd found a dead rooster out by the Whomping Willow and the chance had been too good to miss. "It's your job to try and find some."

Uhm. No? No thank you. I'll stay right where I am thank you very much.

"Uhmm..." yeah. She didn't know what to say. She was speechless.

Oh.

Scary?

Gold raised a hand. "Professor, if a blood sample contains, say, some kind of poison, would that affect the petals?" she asked. Like, if a poison was the kind that would eat chu, could it possibly harm or dissolve the petals too, or were they of a resistant kind?

"... and sir?" She managed to sound... not surprised. "What kind of blood is it?" Hopefully, Professor Dodson hadn't eliminated some poor creature, on the grounds. Though Gold didn't think that likely.

Then again, one can never tell.

Like...seriously? Snickering slightly, Evelyn looked back down to the blood petals on the table before taking a quick peak around the room to see if she could spot any blood spots. She didn't mind anything that wasn't her OWN blood. Otherwise, she'd just freak out.

But one looked at some person's expression, well, it was just all very amusing. Yup! Bahahaha!

Alexandrie looked at the Professor like he was insane, really find the blood? She sighed smiling slightly at Zane when he thought he got some, She was so staying in her sit for right now, She guessed it was animal blood of some kind though. Interesting, she thought making sure to take notes.

Nymphy took a leaf and searched. He saw a dark smere on one of the large table legs and put the leaf on it. he then held it up and watched as it turned a vibrant violet.

"I've defintly got some here sir!" he said, holding the newly turned violet leaf in the sunlight to have a better look.

Noir paled when Professor Dodson said that they've to find blood "BLOOD..!!!Did the professor just said we have to find BLOOD??!!" she thought.."Well..as long as it wasn't mine.." she said..Noir looked around to find some blood..

Well, actually Destiny was just a little afraid. Blood..eeeesh.

Quickly glancing at Evelyn, she shrugged her shoulders. They do crazy things in all their other classes, so why not Herbology? She scooted off her stool and grabbing a few of the BLOOD petals, crouched loooow to the ground. She figured the blood would be on the ground, and not the ceiling. She crouch walked around her desk trying to find this blood stuff.

Only when she almost STEPPED in some did she stop. It wasn't a lot, and rather hard to notice. Ooo, that tricky Professor man. She leaned in closer to drop a blood petal on it, but stopped. Eyes wide, Destiny gestured Evelyn over, "Look!" she pointed to her discovery.

The blood was RED!

The Professor killed himself a Gryffindor.

Blood?!
There was two reasons why she never ever wanted to be the school nurse or a healer.
1. Stress
and 2. Blood
There was no way she was touching or even looking at blood. But for the sake of a grade.. Oh boy.

Pam had just finished jotting down some notes when she heard what the professor had asked them to do. "Eew!" She thought. They were supposed to find blood around the classroom? What if she had stepped on blood when she had came into the classroom earlier? Gross! However,she knew she had to follow the instructions given so she grabbed a few blood petals and went around looking for blood. She was careful not to step on blood...that is if there were actually any on the ground. Gross! She didn't even know where the blood had came from. She saw that a part of a lab desk had a different shade of colour so she dropped a blood petal on it. It slowly turned into violet. She carefully picked up the petal with the tip of her index finger and thumb, and headed back to her seat. She dropped the petal onto her table and sat on her seat,waiting for further instructions.

Fallon sat taking notes. She didn't like this class at all and was only taking it at her father's wishes. When she found out what the plant could do and what they would be doing that lesson, she gave Professor Dodson a confused look. Where the heck did he get blood from?! Now she was really not into being in this class. But she had to do the work while she was here.

Fallon took some of the plant and sprinkled it close to where she was sitting. She waited to see if anything would happen and of course something did. She saw violet patches around where she had sprinkled the plant. That's just not right. She didn't know what to do now. She still wanted to know where the blood had come from.

Oh yes, he'd got those horrified expressions he'd been waiting for. Sage raised one eyebrow as he eyed the students.. this was HOGWARTS, surely they'd done grosser things during their time here. Like decapitating caterpillars in Potions class?

With a small sigh, Professor Dodson turned to Gold who had more questions. "Unfortunately the petals can only identify blood.. there's a different type of flower that can spot poisons." He hadn't put any poisons around the room though..

And ah, he'd been waiting for that question. Where had the blood come from.. "It's the blood of a rooster who had fallen victim to the Whomping Willow." He'd only used a little of the blood, then he'd disposed of the poor creature.

"All you have to do is gently wipe the petals across the surfaces," Sage explained, noting that a few of the the kids had started and were successful already. At least not ALL of them were squeamish.

"I know it seems a big gross," he started once more, looking at all of them, "but this is exactly what an Auror might do if he's at the scene of a crime and is without a wand. These flowers are very useful."

Alex sighed grabbing a few petals using her brain to determine logical places the Professor would place them and then illogical, because it was a Professor's job to confuse them wasn't it? She put one in the corner and watched as a leaf turned violet before picking it up and heading for her table not bothered by it at all, at least she knew what kind of blood it is now. Alex smiled at Zane..dropping the leaf..thingy petal right onto the table in front of her.

'This is exactly what an Auror might do'? But, Ellie didn't want to be an Auror. She didn't. If anything at the moment, she wanted to play quidditch. Not track down scary people with blood petals. If they didn't have a wand, why are they around blood? Just apparate back to your wand, grab it, then go back. What kind of Auror frolicks around without a wand anyway?

"Do we get gloves or something, at least?" she wasn't going anywhere near blood without gloves.

Then she "Eep"ed and jumped up and checked her seat. Thanking Merlin that she didn't see any discolorment where she was. What if she had sat on blood?! She could just shudder at the thought.

Fallon let out a sigh of relief once she found out that it was rooster blood. She had been having some strange thoughts about what the Herbology professor had done. It's not everyday you hear your professor say that there is blood in your classroom. She wondered if she should look anymore. After all, she had found a little around where she was sitting.

Ellie nodded. Not nice to laugh, Dodson, not nice. Walking to the cupboard, she thought it silly that she didn't bring her own wands. She made a mental note to practice 'reducio' and always keep them with her in her pocket. Always. Because, obviously, you never knew when you might have to unexpectedly find blood with flower petals.
