He bit his lip and wondered if he sounded stupid, some girl just said something in Latin along with dill. . ::

Rae finished with the milking and the mashing and all that other junk, which wasn't really the most pleasnt of experiences. Then he showed the class some kind of plant that she know not of and she tried to pay attention so maybe one day she could possibly be a trapper like that one woman said. Rae still wanted to not be noticed so she sat quietly in her seat waiting for him to give the correct answer.

Abby cocked her head at the herb that the professor was holding up. OOH it looked so familiar. Uhmmm. It looked a bit like tarragon. But did that have any properties besides making food taste good? It did also look like fennel. Huh? She raised her hand. "Is it fennel?" she said hesitantly.

"YES!" Sage beamed at the students who stated the herb was dill. "You lot know your herbs, I see." Perhaps they'd used it when cooking? Or seen their parents use it? His thoughts were confirmed when the young boy said his Mother used the herbs with her potatoes. "Very good," he nodded, "the latin name is indeed Anethum Graveolens and you're quite right in saying it's used with foods. Helps add a bit of flavour to many dishes." Of course, that wasn't all it did though.

"Nice try.. it looks a little like fennel, doesn't it?" Sage smiled at the girl, glad she'd at least given it a go.

"Now, although mostly used for culinary purposes.. Dill is rich in mineral salts and also used for medicinal uses." He put the herb aside and retrieved a container which was filled with small seeds. "It's the seeds that are mostly used for healing. Does anyone know what they do?"

Amy put her hand up, it can be used to settle stomachs when it's been diluted, and help stop hiccups, it also has a powerfull oil that can be used to also stop stomach problems? Amy said, and is best used on children she said, finishing up

"Hmm...I've heard that Dill seeds can be used as spices for food in some cultures." Brody commented with a smile, as she raised her hand. She thought for a few seconds, before speaking again. "And...my house elf said it can be used to soothe the stomach after a meal..." Although she wasn't too sure if that house elf was actually saying the truth, her house elf was rather old and daft.

"Chewing dill seeds cures bad breath." Sidney loves dill pickles and dill used in other foods, but she's not too sure she would want to chew the seeds. Too much dill isn't a good thing in her opinion.

Chris raised his hand and began to say some of the many things that Dill would help with. "Professor, the herb Dill can also help to treat cold and flu symptoms."

The Head Boy absently stuck the smashed Mugwort into his shoes, not many other had done it yet, but the Gryffindor would! RAWRR!

Uck, first the professor wanted us to put gross stuff in their hands, then he wanted us to put icky stuff in our shoes which was certainly out of the question and now he wanted them to chew on seeds, so gross. She just wrote down the benifits of the gross things on her parchment. When the seeds came her way she grabbed a few and decicided to try this one, could not be that bad. At first chew she spit all the seeds out in gag reflex they tasted so aweful. This class was certainly not one she was enjoying, not one bit.

"Professor, it tastes interesting." His voice cracked at the end as he kept on chewing.

Chris grinned as the Professor agreed and went into further detail with his answer about the dill herb. He was sad that they weren't going to be drinking the tea.

The Head Boy instantly perked up when he heard they got to try the seeds. He grabbed the tin that the Professor was passing around and popped a few into his mouth and began to chew them. They didn't taste bad just not wonderful. "Well professor are you trying to tell us that our breath stinks?" he joked with the man.

If I can put mugwort leaves in my shoes, I can chew a bunch of seeds...

Kate took a few seeds. She stared at them in her right palm, moving them with a finger.

"It's like chewing gum...but natural " She thought, and put them in her mouth.

'mmm...crunchy and at the same time gummy...a little mint flavor and some kind of bitterness?"

Hehe. This was funneh. Gold beamed at the container, as it was passed on to her, and then levitated a few seeds out of it. Not that she did not want to touch them, but too many people being grabby-hands all over the same container, is never nice. Even if it is one-by-one. Hands can be unclean and God knows what else. Gold was peculiar like that, about cleanliness. Thankfully, she also enjoyed a good bout of rain and getting muddy and camping-out. Or life would have been much duller.

For her, that is.

She was about to pop the seeds into her mouth, when she thought of something. Raising a hand, she asked, "Professor? Are we meant to swallow the seeds?" Yes, she needed to know.

Keeley had been having a blast with her mugwort crushing. Yep yep yep! She had been having so much fun that the weird girl hadn't really tried to answer any more questions for the time being. *Sniffle*

But now the powder was resting securely under her black stockinged foot, and felt quite cozy indeed. OOOOH!!! Now they could eat stuff, too?! This lesson just kept getting better! The quirky Ravenclaw giggled as she skipped up to Mr. Awesome Professor to take some yummy seedies. "Thank you veeeery much, sir!"

Nom nom! These seeds tasted like peppermint!

Oh, that was gross. Eating seeds? What if they choked? Seeds got stuck in one's teeth too! So who cares about better breathe when you something quite noticeable in between the front of your teeth when you smile...

Besides, she didn't need anything to freshen her breath. It was minty and fresh as it was. Brushing three times a day had it's uses. Taking note however, of who actually was taking the seeds, Evelyn passed the container onto the next person without taking any.

She was fine as it was.

They had something of an aroma, a somewhat strong taste that was not altogether unpleasant, and -- and Gold swallowed them, when she was done. Because, you know, she couldn't possibly spit them out. That would be plain gross.

"Funny!breath," she chuckled to herself, before looking up at Professor!Herbology. "Professor, does Dill oil retain this property?" She wasn't very good at Herbology, to be honest. Not at all.

Sidney takes the container from the person sitting next to her and takes the lid off. She looks at the seeds. They look innocent enough, so why is she afraid of trying them. They can't taste all that bad. Professor Dodson would give us anything that tasted awful. Sidney pours some seeds into her hand and pops them in her mouth. She swishes them around and then moves them over to her teeth. Sidney bites down and suddenly gets a strong taste in her mouth- definitely not dill pickles. Its more a combination of peppermint and an aromatic taste. I can't describe it. Then the aroma from the seeds makes its way to her nose. Boy that stuff can open your sinuses up too. Sidney blows into her hands. Her breath smells minty fresh.

"Not for my taste, professor." she mumbled, looking at everyone else chewing on the seeds. She would try the mugwort leaves later on her feet, but she wasn't going to try the dill seeds.
