Hayden was so excited, Divination was something, like Transfiguration and Defence, that she was interested in, having read up on it before hand. And Astrology was something she knew quite a bit about. She was a Scorpio and she could work out other peoples star signs by their birthdays.. but she was very curious to learn more. |
Keeley sighed, knowing that she's have to talk to the professor. Se got up, and walked over to him, whispering so that just he could hear, "Er-I don't know when my birthday is, professor." It was sad, but true. |
"Isn't Mr. Potter born under cancer? And I believe Mr. Riddle was born under Pisces." |
Lucille perked up, stretched her hand out in a floppy kinda way and prepared ot answer. "Saturn controls capricorn i THINK," she said, chewing her lip. "Bu the sun rules Leo. Yup." She nodded. She knew that one. She was one herself afterall. And she liked the lion thinggy for Leo. Grrr. Teehee. |

Butterbeer. How she wished she was a faster page turner. Wesley's stomach gave a small grumble at the thought, and she clamped her hands on it while her face flushed pink. At least...at least Professor Dumont promised another chance next time. And next time, Wesley would be prepared. Nodding to herself, she glanced at the top of her notes. Quote:

Choluna raised her hand! She knew this one! "The sun controls Leo... and... I'm pretty sure that... Saturn controls Capricorn!" Yay! She really enjoyed this class! |
Helena cocked her head to the side, still trying to make sure she had everything about her own sign right. Quote:
"It also says that Libras can be: people-pleasing, gullible, passive, indecisive, gossipy, and co-dependent," she read. She frowned. Okay, she could be a people-pleaser, she was DEFINITELY gullible, she could be indecisive; but as for passive, gossipy, and co-dependent? She didn't think so. She didn't really like to talk about other people at all. It was not good form. And she wouldn't like others to talk about her. She didn't like to think of herself as passive, and she hadn't yet seen any evidence of the fact that she was, so she wouldn't apply it to herself just yet. As for co-dependent, she loved to be alone. How could she be co-dependent? She supposed, though, that the Sun Signs were subjective, and there was nothing that said that one couldn't change their personality traits if they worked at it long and hard enough. She would just have to make sure she didn't become gossipy, passive, and co-dependent. The rest she could live with. |
31st October 2053. That was the lucky day in which Sebastian was born into the world. Woodson too, of course ... them being twin brothers and all. That made them both Scorpios. But them being twin brothers was exactly the reason why he didn't believe in all of this astrology stuff. Despite some shared characteristics, Woodson and Sebastian were in deed very different. And even the characteristics they shared had a different intensity to them. Woodson wasn't as manipulative as he was, Sebastian wasn't as passionate about things as Woodson was. Leaning against the back of the chair, Sebastian pressed his thin lips tightly together. Everybody around here had a blind faith in silly signs, had they not? |

He paused a moment. "So, who can tell me what it means if someone is born on the cusp? And how might that affect someone's personality?" |
Jack raised his hand. "If you're born right on the cusp of two signs, I think that means you'll have traits in your personality that relate to both signs. You'll probably bounce back and forth a lot depending on what happens in your life...some events may call for traits from one sign and visa versa. Since some of the signs are so different as well, I'm sure it also can cause a lot of internal conflicts as well," he replied. |
Tiberius raised his hand quickly. He'd read about this, he thought. "Sir, being born on the cusp means that you're born when the sun is changing from being in one sign to being in another sign. For personalities, it means that the person may be a blend of the two." |
Mina raised her hand quickly. "If you are born on the cusp, you are both between two different sun signs. You display qualities of both signs instead of just one. One sign may still be dominate, but you will more than liking still have qualities associated to the other." |

"A cusp is when you are born when the sun is moving from one sign to the next. So what will happen is that you will have qualities of both signs. Sometimes you`ll act like people born in the first sign and at others like the ones born in the second sign. You`ll have almost two personalitys" said Barry. That was a very very long answer. He didn`t think it was right |
Born on the cusp? Sarah had heard this expression, but had no idea where from.Flicking through her textbook, she came across an answer.Whether it was the right one remained to be seen.Putting her hand in the air, she tried to put it in her own words. "Sir, being born on the cusp means that you are born on the last day of a particular sign, when the sun is moving into the next one.People usually display traits that relate to both of those signs, instead of just the one." |
Bella was thinking- but then at least 4 students had already answered, so it was pretty usless to answer now. She just began to write in her notes more, "this class was going to be fun and I just know it!" she thought to herself. |
Sabel raised his hand away from doodling the Chinese calendar beside the Astronomy chart he had been given. "If you are on the cusp, it is much like sitting on the fence. You may be one or the other or both. You may have attributes from both, luck from both, and the signs of both. In some interpretations of the Astrology chart, if you are born on the cusp of a year or sign, rules apply which place you on one side of the fence or the other." He gave a small shrug. "But really its up to you which one you would prefer to follow." As were personality, luck and emotions, he thought to himself. However, seeing as he was in a divination class, it didn't seem to be the most appropriate thing to debate at the moment. |
Satine glanced around so focused on her sign's information that she didn't realize class had started and then she mentioned the professor say something about a cusp and your personality. She thought about it for a few seconds...and then raised her hand, "Let's see a cusp has to do with architecture and it's where two points meet or intersect or connect in a building or a design...so if I was to relate that to astrology it would be where two signs intersect...so maybe this means being born towards the end of one of the cycles to where you could be one sign or the other...so like on the 21st of each month..." she said proud of her reasoning and explanation even if it was wordy. |

Oh well done!!! Neptune clapped her little gloved hands for that boy that had been her acting butler in Diagon Alley. Oh how very, very charitable this professor was to offer him a voucher! He surely needed it and Neptune APPROVED of this Mr. Dumont. Though it was a private giggle with herself that HE, Josiah, was surely ruled by Neptune. Right? GIGGGLE!!! She made a quick note not to trust any Capricorns EVER because they evidently turn into evil dark lords. Neptune Bott was learning SO much, really!! Ahem. "Cusps are probably most of our lunatics," Neptune offered with her little gloved hand raised high, "All that mixing." Shudder. "Seems unnatural, really, to have MIXED personalities. Do you suppose that multiple personalities derive from such an occurrence? I'm glad I'm not one." Another note: Avoid cusps. |
What? Born on a cusp? That couldn't be right... "It's..." Jake started, raising his hand and looking at everyone else. Eh. They'd already answered... hmmm. "On... th-the edge of ssssomething?" Had everyone else said that? Jake was just guessing from wherever he'd heard the word before. |

Keeley sighed, blushing. But not just her face turned pink, oh no, it was her hair too. The professor probably didn't know what to do with her. So, she sat back down in her seat, making more notes. Maybe she could make up a birthday... |
"Proffessor, by the sounds of it I think that ebing born on the cusp mean either being born extremely close to another sign, or while in transition to another, but because of the way we determine sign you were placed in one specific one, when you could have been the other. You could also possess traits of both for sure." Emily said. |
"If you are born on the cusp, it means you are born right between two signs. It would affect soneone's personality by giving them traits of both signs." Nicoletta answered. |
Choluna raised her hand. "If your born on the cusp, you are in between two sun signs so you have two personalities!" Did that make sense, she wondered! |

Even though some other students had given out answers, Nikki raised her hand. Clearing her throat she said, "If your born on the cusp, that means you were born while the sun is shifting from one sign to the other. So you would have traits from both signs. So for example if your born as a Taurus and..." Whats after Taurus? Check book quickly! Gemini "Gemini, then you would have traits of a Taurus and Gemini." |
"Being born on the cusp means a birthday falls on or about the 21st of the month. This is approximately when the sun moves from one sign to the other in the Zodiac. The day can vary. Sometimes it is the 19th; sometimes the 23rd." "People born on the cusp will have a blending of the characteristics of both signs closest to her birthdate. These complex souls will not be catagorized as one sign or the other, but a blending of both signs." Quote:
|
Cela raised her hand. "There are actually two kinds of cusps sir, house cusps and sign cusps. House cusps come into play when you look more in depth at a birth chart, sign cusps are what most people know of as cusps; though limiting it to only one or two days on either side isn't really accurate because the days in the year doesn't divide exactly into the zodiac signs. Safer to say 5 days on either side but also its important to note that the sign that a person is born under is still the stronger influence." |

I'd like to tell you all a little story, it probably doesn't have much basis in fact but it is interesting nonetheless. There are people in the world who believe in reincarnation, and one of the theories is that people begin their first life in the sign of Aries and then go progressively through the signs with each new life, gaining experience and knowledge each time they are reborn. Therefore, Pisces would be the oldest and the wisest sign, and that would make you a very wise soul, certainly." He smiled. "And Cela, you make a very good point. The houses play a very important role in a person's chart as do the planets, and that is a very astute observation. Three points to Ravenclaw for that sharp observation!" "The lesson is almost over, and I'd like to end with one more question which will lead into our homework. What do you know about the influence of the moon on a person's personality? Do you think it has influence or not? The first person who answers will earn my final butterbeer coupon, so speed is of the essence! And then I'm going to assign the homework for you all. And don't worry, we are going to cover many aspects of astrology together, learning about how all the planets influence who you are and how the placement of the planets within the various houses is important in your life, what those houses mean. I hope you all enjoy it. Now, who wants to answer the question and earn the coupon?" Textbook for moon sign info - http://www.lifescript.com/Soul/Horos...20100120003931 |
Miranda raised her hand. "Well sir, could it be that just as the sun is positioned at a certain place at our births, and thereby giving us our sun sign, the moon also is positioned somewhere special at that time and can influence how we are and become." Maybe that made a little...sense? "Perhaps?" Heh! |
"Well, I have heard of the moon and the houses having not only control over your personality but i heard it can control the world and such with all the planets and such... for example the hippies prophesized the flooding on the world with a prophecy to do with the moon... there was a song from the musical hair that said "when the moon is in the seventh house, and jupiter aligns with mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars... basically telling of when the world is flooded, the people that survive will move to the next dimension, and peace will be finally here." |Emily said, that was basically all she knew "I don't know much else, but i do know my moon sign... it's virgo... I think." Emily said trying to remember the moon sign she had found once... |
Tiberius raised his hand again. "Sir? Your moon sign represents the subconscious, hidden aspects of our personalities, as well as emotions and instincts." |
"The moon's influence is more towards how we naturally act and our emotions. Pretty much our subconscious." Well, since the sun apparantly has a huge impact on people, why not the moon as well? It was a big part of their solar system as they learned in Astronomy... "But, professor, I do have a question involving the moon. What happens if you were born when there is an eclipse? Would that...increase ones sign's traits? Or change them in some way...Or just does it not even matter." |
"Your moon sign influences in similar ways as to your sun sign. In each, the current position of the sun or moon, influences actions and behaivior. Your moon sign is especially important in determining love matches, as are the different houses." she answered. |
Celandine smiled a little at earning points but she clamped her mouth firmly shut at the next question. She did not want one of those vouchers. |
Emily raised her hand. "Professor, the moon reflects your inner self, like the emotions hidden deep inside or your inner personality." She hoped that would be a suitable answer. She knew she wouldn't get the coupon because people had already answered before her, but that was okay. She just wanted to answer a question. |
XD didn't see this Quote:
She knew this. An eclipse meant that the Sun and Moon were, in the person's birth chart, in opposition to one another. Oppositions were intensifiers. Cela looked at Professor Dumont, her expression curious to see what he'd say. A test for the good professor. |
Freeman leaned back in his chair with a sour expression. He couldn't believe he'd be studying planetary movement and their mysterious influence on lives of teensy human beings for the next seven years. And what was this?! His sign was a goat? Nuh-uh. No way, no how. Freeman had met a goat before. It was smelly and tried to eat his shoelace. He wasn't about to accept that some goat-sign in the sky and the sun and the moon made him one way, or another. Freeman was his own man. The young boy snorted at the Slytherin's question and twisted 'round in his seat. Eclipses were a bad sign, everyone knew that. It was how most horror movies started. Either that, or a mark that your pants were going to keep falling down for the extent of your entire life. |
Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise when she found a few students turning in their seats to look at her. What? It was a perfectly reasonable question! She didn't need an audience and if they wanted to stare at someone, stare at the Professor! He was the one that was supposed to be talking soon... Though that one guy didn't have a very pleasant expression on his face, and...did he just snort at her? Narrowing her eyes, she stuck her tongue out at him before leaning back in her seat with a smirk. Immature? Yes. Satisfying? Yeeees. Let's hear him make up a better question! |
BLINK. What was up with all these vouchers? Like seriouslyy... Livvy thought it was supposed to be a one time deal. Then it'd actually be something to brag about too. But no. EVERY teacher was handing out vouchers. Why exactly? Mhmm... why? They were up to something. Livvy just knew it! What with all this weird staffing and new staff members, they must be planning something evil and devious. She wasn't sure if she liked the sound of that. Butterbeer appealed to her greatly... but no... she wouldn't fall for that! Instead, she just sat there and kept her hand down on the desk and glanced around at all the other students as they answered. COMEEEE OONNNNNN RAVENCLAW! GASSSP. Did she... Oh merlin. Did she just hear a... a... snort? AHHHH!! The horror! Surely this person wasn't from Ravenclaw. Where were their manners? Livvy glanced around desperately to find the source of the snort. Wait 'til she got her hands on the kid! No one from Ravenclaw should be rudely snorting at a student and their question. |
Freeman glanced critically up and down at the Slytherin who'd had the audacity to stick her tongue at him. Didn't she know she'd just branded herself as a six-year-old in front of the entire class? Tongue-stickers never received any respect. And Freeman would be the first to demonstrate. He gave her a sympathetic, well-aren't-you-a-precious-child! look, and turned up his nose as he faced back towards the front. Freeman glowered at the workbook in front of him. Points. They could keep 'em. They were merely an empty strategy to modify student behavior, anyway. He knew the system. |

Antonio could sense the class was getting tired, and Cela seemed very nervous each time he mentioned the free butterbeer coupons for some reason. Interesting. He was trying to reward students, not get them on edge. "All right, everyone, that will do it for this lesson, but here is your homework," he told the classroom before drawing his wand and posting the assignment on the board. Quote:
|
Carter wrote down the assignment. He then gathered his things together and headed out the door. "Thanks Professor. Great lesson," he said as he left. |
SIGH. Sigh. Cela copied the homework down, shaking her head and shooting little glances at the Slytherin who asked the question. You know, instead of looking at Miranda and her.... voucher. |
Quickly jotting down his homework, Sabel all but shoved his papers into his bag, shook it out, zipped it up and slung it over his shoulder as he stood. It had to be the most fluid moment in Dakest history. It was the least thing to say that he wanted to be somewhere quiet, and quick. Sparing the Professor a small smile of thanks for the lesson, he waited for Kellen to be ready before leaving the class. Leave no man behind. |
Ian was more than happy when the Professor copied the homework, and told them that was it for today. The truth was that the entire class had gone by in a blink of an eye, and he'd not even gotten bored. Ian figured that this happened because he'd been doing anything BUT paying attention, so he made a mental note to get purposely get distracted more often. He didn't, however, made a mental note -or an actual note, for that matter- about the homework, for McKensie was smart enough he'd just altogether forget about doing it. Giving the teacher an enthusiastic grin and having nooooo idea what was up with all the bouchers, the fifth year happily walked out of the classroom. |
Kellen noticed the speed with which Sabel packed up and followed suit, wondering what was motivating him to such speed... and such grace. Seriously, not a thing fell, ripped, or otherwise conformed to Sabel's normal pattern. Kellen packed up faster than he normally would, motivated by Sabel's speed but absolutely refusing to crumple his parchment pages. Pristine condition, that's how he liked his notes. Once they were safely stowed his slung his backpack over his shoulder and nodded to Sabel, moving out of the room. |
So she had a question that the professor didn't know the answer to?! Coolness. Although, he probably was more educated in Muggle Studies than he was in Astrology...or Divination for that matter, but still. It was a good feeling for some reason... And yes, she could FEEL those little glances that the older Ravenclaw was giving her. Practically piercing her skin. Blowing out a frustrated sigh, Evelyn wrote down the homework and packed up her things before heading towards. "Goodbye, Professor Dumont." she said on her way out, finding it easier to go down the millions of stairs than to go up them... |
Adrienne's thoughts had kind of trailed off as soon as Professor Dumont had gone off into his story about reincarnation in response to her bringing up her own cusp-ness. It intrigued her that he thought that she had a wise soul, but in the same respect, she couldn't quite figure out what that had to do with the class discussion. Not to mention it also meant Riley was the same, and she couldn't quite accept that her brother was that similar to her. Maybe a little, but definitely not in that way. And then the tension in the room ratcheted up, and she snapped back into paying attention in order to see Cela eyeing a Slytherin girl, along with another Ravenclaw. And then Professor Dumont was bringing the lesson to a close, giving Miranda some sort of voucher. Which she remembered other teachers handing out in their lessons as well, which was seriously odd. Oh well. As long as people don't get Imperiused again, she thought, looking up again as the homework was assigned. She wasn't about to give up her curiosity about what had happened to her last term, but this term was important too. And doing homework was a big part of that importance. Writing the assignment down in her notes, she folded her parchment before sliding it into her bag, along with the rest of her things from class. And then she stood up, her heels making one last clip sound before she got to her feet. "Interesting lesson, Professor Dumont. I'm looking forward to the next one," she said with a smile, before picking her school bag up and heading out of the classroom. Off to whatever her next destination was going to be. |
The end of the class. OH, Kay wrote the homework down and then put her things away. Kay looked up at the Professor as she stood to go. "Thank you Professor Dumont, it was a great class." She picked up her bag and walked towards the door. |
Quote:
"Oh...Thankyou, sir!" She smiled up at the man, and gratefully took the coupon. She had noticed the other teachers handing these out, and wondered just what for? Maybe they just wanted to make the stundents enthusiastic about learning? Or...someone wants to gather a bunch of kids and...jinx- Naaaaaaaaaaaah nooo no no no. Ofcourse not. Hehe. She wrote down the homework and then started to set her things away into her sidebag. "Thankyou for a great class, Professor. I was sort of sad that you weren't teaching Muggle Studies, but you've made this class just as fun! " She smiled, and with a little wave made her way out of the classroom. |
Hayden sat quietly. She knew the answers having been told to study as far back as she could, but decided she would let the others pitch in anyway. Mumbling to herself she started to take notes. Quote:
|
Ooooh Miranda got a butterbeer voucher? What the heck was that all about? She had no clue. Listening to the story that Dumont told them, Sarah sighed wearily. It was perfectly obvious then that she hadn't been reincarnated very many times, hardly a wise soul was she.Scribbling down the homework, she blinked at it a few times. 'This is the easy part'? Says who?! Urghhh, fine. Placing her parchment and quill back in her bag, Sarah stood up and slung it over her shoulder and made her way towards the door. "Thank you, Professor. It was an interesting lesson," she smiled. With a wave she departed for the common room. |
Arya was taking notes, when she wasn't destracted with her doodles, as the lesson went on. She wasn't one to care about her sun sign and didn't know about the other types of signs. Swinging her legs her eyes lite up when the professor dismissed the class. Writing down the homework she packed all her things back into her bag. She waved to the professor, "Bye Professor!"Before runing out the door. |
Nicoletta gathered up her things. "Bye Proffesor!" she waved. |
Allison shook her head in denial. More homework? It was impossible, as it was she had spent an entire day correcting and making sure her Astronomy homework had been perfect, and now she had four other assignments to worry about. Hogwarts was going to drive her insane. Standing up she took quick note of her homework mumbled about unfairness and without another thought raced out of the classroom. Allison's only thought upon leaving was: Must. Do. Homework. Now. |
Choluna grabbed her stuff and darted out the door! Then stopped, turned around, said "Thank Professor! It was a pleasure taking this class with you! Good day!" and kept darting! Man, she wanted to get OUT of there! Away from all the drama! |
So much homework!! Becca thought as she looked at her notebook. Picking up the rest of her belongings, she got up and began to walk out, "Have a nice day, Professor Dumont." |
Lucy saw the professor giving out the homework, i must better take it downshe thought and took her homework, she put all her stuff in the bag and moved towards the door saying "Great lesson professor, have a good day" and moved out of the room. |
