A scattering of light spills onto the polished floor through brightly colored stained glass, lending to a peaceful atmosphere in this particular section of the library. Low bookcases are found on either side of the windows; with recent informational books stacked upon the shelves, each book sorted according to its relevancy to classes offered at Hogwarts.

Conversational seating is present for those who wish to spend time with their friends or for completing homework in a group. A few chairs, set behind rich mahogany desks, offer solitary seating for those who simply wish to read or to spend a few moments alone to ponder over the happenings of daily life.

She looked up at him and offered a little smile, "But you wouldn't have noticed me; Ickle firstie, liked to climb trees and charm things."

He squeezed over into her chair, her hand still in his. "But maybe the gangly third year who was all knees and elbows would have liked that firstie," he offered with a smile. He was still pretty much gangly, although he'd grown into his monkey arms a bit this year. Kettleburns were tall.

"This... you and me here... reminds me of something."

"Maybe." Cela agreed, lifting up his arm and prodding his elbow with the little finger of her other hand. She dropped their hands down, not letting go though, "Or..." she tried to think of herself as she had been the term before, ignoring for the most part that all these Celandines were one and the same "...the slightly hyperactive second year, who liked to hurtle down the moving staircases and risk falling from great heights?"

She shifted a little and stared fixedly at one of her knees, her fingers twitching in his grasp. "What does it remind you of?"

"There was a shy fourth year with a permanent pass to the Restricted Section who needed to get out of his shell," Copernicus twined his fingers with hers and lifted her hand. Hm. It needed kissing. "Actually, it reminds me of the first time we met."

Celandine looked up and met his eyes, cocking her head slightly to one side, "Are you still shy, Cope?" her eyes flickered to their intertwined fingers and she inwardly jumped, though outwardly she was holding herself very, very still. Was he talking about... when Cela had first decided to claim him as her friend? That day in the common room?

"You mean, it reminds you of the first time you noticed me," she corrected, "I remember meeting you in Diagon Alley, though I guess I didn't really... notice you either?" She turned her head away and shot a sideways look at him.

"Sometimes," Cope admitted, putting the back of her hand to his cheek before he really thought it through. Whoops! He made a little eep and lowered her hand back in between them. "Wait... when did we meet in Diagon Alley? Was it during the creature hunt? Because I was really distracted and... sorry."

Rush. Of. Blood. To. The. Head. Celandine's eyelashes fluttered a little as she tried to mentally associate the sensation of her hand against Cope's cheek with the reality. "You aren't... that shy around me." She pointed out, immediately lifting their intertwined hands and pressing the back of his against her cheek. It was brief. Brief and scary.

She smiled at him. "For Juni's lemur? Sort of. I met you when I was ordering my scorpion. It's okay... like I said I didn't notice you then."

He turned his hand to cup the turn of her jaw and her neck. "But you remember me, and I don't remember you. That's... unconscionable. I feel like the moment I saw you I should have known you were... going to be one of my closest friends."

Cope dropped his hand, and his expression became very shuttered. "Cel... this isn't any good."

Fingertips. Fingertips that weren't her own. On her skin. She responded quietly, "I forgive you. You know now... right?"

Cela blinked and lifted her own hand to her face. Yep. It was still there. "Feels good," she told him with a little frown. That expression he wore... it was kind of like her flying boggart except Cope was still talking to her so it was okay, right?

"I... I have to... I should tell you..." The cold look passed, and Cope just looked miserable instead. "Tell me about Plymouth. You've made plans for the summer, right? And tell me about how great he is to you. Do I have to glare at him for your brother's sake?"

"He's taking me to a carnival." Cela answered quietly, a bit apprehensive that Cope would use the boggart look again. She left the other questions unanswered and just looked at him with an expression of helpless confusion.

Maybe she would have fun at the carnival, but it wasn't fun now. Cela's chest felt tight and the air felt heavy, it pressed against her skin so that she could feel blood rushing everywhere. She swallowed roughly and bit on her lower lip to stop it from wibbling. He didn't look happy either, but at least he wasn't being a boggart.

"Tell me about your parents, Cope?"

"Ummm," Cope mumbled against his hands, but his shoulders lost their tension. "My father was the Ministry diplomat to France until last summer, when they kicked us out because of the murder of their Minister on our soil. He traveled a lot... probably still does. I spent most of my childhood with my mother; she was my first teacher. After she died," he made a noise against his hand. "After that, I had tutors and companions when I wasn't at school."

Cela listened carefully and let out a sympathetic little murmur, suddenly other things faded from consideration and she shuffled closer in the seat, wrapping her arms about Copernicus and giving him a huge, tight hug, pressing her nose into his shoulder as she squeezed him. "She'd be really proud of you."

"She'd like you," Copernicus nuzzled her back, his cheek against the top of her head. She was very comfortable there, all snuggled against his side. Very warm and smelling delicately feminine. "I sure do."

Celandine didn't answer, instead she wormed her way under Cope's arm and pulled it tight around herself like a blanket, though she was still sitting with her legs tucked under herself right next to him. "Tell me about her?"

Cope rested his cheek on the top of her head. If anyone happened upon them, they'd get the wrong idea completely about what was happening here, but he really didn't care. "Her name was Hannah. She was an astronomist, and my father built her an observatory on the top floor of the house..." He could feel Cela's hair brushing his jaw as he spoke, and Cope closed his eyes. "She was my first teacher, really. We would sit up in her observatory while I did my lessons and she did her calculations. I learned math, language, history... all through astronomy."

Celandine listened to all this quietly, subconciously adjusting her breathing so that it matched Cope's.

"Astronomy." Cela repeated, snaking her fingers up and hooking them under the chain of the pendant she'd given him, playing with it idly. "Was she really pretty? Did she hold you like you are holding me now? Was she funny? Did she make your favourite foods? Did she tell you things you'll remember for always?"

"I thought she was the most beautiful woman ever, but don't all boys think that of their mothers when they're young? And she had a much better sense of humor than my father and I. Called us her stoic men. And, yes, she made my favorite foods. Mostly when father was out of town and hadn't provided the house elves with a menu plan."

He shifted her slightly until Cela was tucked against his chest and his arm curled protectively around her shoulders, his hand resting at her temple. "She held me like this when she read to me."

Cel was genuinely curious. She tightened her arms around him. He felt... less sad?

"You ask a lot of questions," he looked down at her, but he was smiling at her. "I think she made me buttered noodles when I was going through my anti-tomato phase, and lots of cinnamon toast. But our special dinners were special because we made the food together. Breakfast for dinner, and homemade pizza." It was hard not to get caught up in having her little face just inches below his, so Cope put her back against his chest and closed his eyes. "We read astronomy myths, and then later texts. Muggle novels from her mother's library. Beedle, of course."

"That's how you get answers." Cela told him. "I don't like tomato all that much either, but tomato sauce is nice.... breakfast for dinner?" That was an alien concept. She shifted around quite happily and snuggled her back against his chest. "Beedle. Like the proper version, not the version I got, huh? Keiran used to read to me, poetry mostly."

Cela's eyes grew incredulous at this flipping business and she tipped her head back, "Without magic?" Oh! She liked him playing with her hair!

"What did he read? Shakespeare of course; and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, William Blake, John Keats, Rudyard Kipling, William Wordsworth... but my favourites were Louis Carroll and Spike Milligan and E.V. Rieu." Yeahhh Cela liked the funny ones.
