Well, I'm half and half too. My mum... Cadence paused, the words suddenly stopped in her through. She swallowed hard. my mum was a witch, and my dad was a muggle.They, they died right after I got to school... Cadence said, staring at her plate.

"i am so sorry,"mumbled isabella as she gently squeezed cadences hand. "Its so horrible when bad things happen to good people,"She said releasing cadences hand. "How have you found hogwarts so far?"asked isabella, hoping that the change in topic will allow cadence to feel less upset.

I love it mostly. I've made some really great friends, and I have a boyfriend. We went on our first date to Hogsmeade this weekend. Cadence smiled and blushed bright red.

"That is so cool! Is he from our house? I hope you had a great time," she said not wanting to seem inquisitive.

Yes, he's in Hufflepuff. His name is Set, and we had a really lovely time... talking about her date with Set made her feel really bubbly and she couldn't help but giggle and smile.

Isabella couldnt help but smile as she listened to cadence whose enthusiasm seemed to rub of on her. "That is fantastic. Any idea when the next visit to hogsmead?"

I believe we're allowed to go every weekend... Cadence said. The daydreams she had had on her date with Set came flashing back into her mind. Set, in his Quidditch robes, flying back down to the ground, Cadence running onto the pitch, and Set pulling her onto his broom and kissing her. She smiled to herself before looking up at the other girls and whispering. Do you think we're too young to think about kissing a boy?

Isabella laughed quietly, "No, i dont think so." her thoughts flashed to her best friend back home who once asked her the same question. a pang of home sickness hit her unexpectantly. she sighed.

Cadence sighed and began playing with her food. Did you have a lot of friends at home? she asked Isabella.

"no, i just have One really good friend. This is the only time we have ever been seperated," she thought about her best bud again. "What about you? Were you fortunate enough to have any of your friends back home join you here?"

Varius was HUNGRRRRRYYYYY. Even his belly was saying so... in fact, it said so over and over and over again like a broken record and it was starting to annoy Varius and falter his aura, which needs to be spic and span on a 24 hour basis for him to be able to think. All of this ghost controversy and the mirror was so draining.

He sat himself at a quiet part of the table, since he didn't really know anyone already seated and didn't think now would be the best time to get to know people... not when he would probably be stuffing his face in the most disgusting manner ever in about ohhhhh... 5 seconds?

NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!!! *burp*

Kayla stood behind Varius as he devoured everything in sight on the table. Wow for such a little guy he sure could eat up a storm, kind of reminded her of herself and the way she ate when she was rather hungry...which as a matter of fact was now.

Before she took her seat beside him, she just had to rub his head because...well because he seemed to enjoy it. "Hello Varius, my favourite first year in the whole wide world of Hogwarts" Kayla rubbed his head and then sat down beside him. Noting the contents of his plate and the rest of it hanging out of his mouth, Kayla laughed. "Hmm...did you leave any for the rest of us?"

Varius was startled when someone from behind began rubbing his head in a total sneak-attack like fashion. Varius, in obvious immediate reaction, grabbed the nearest carrot and turned to his attacker! "YOUUUUUU," he said with his mouth full of Merlin knows what before realising that it was Kayla, whom he hadn't seen until that secret room.

He quickly swallowed what food he had in his mouth, blushing slightly at his obvious over exaggeration before rubbing her head also. "Hello... Kayla," he said, staring at the carrot still in his hand before proceeding to eat the whole thing. "Well, the Great Hall seemed rather quiet, so I thought I would give something for the House Elves to do... you know, keeping them happy and all that... for the greater good..." that sounded like a good enough justification, right?

"What are you up to? Hungry also I take it?"

She held up her hands in surrender when Varius turned on her with...carrots? "Put down your weapons, I come in peace." She grabbed a plate and started piling food onto it making sure that she had more on her plate than his.

"How are you Varius?" she asked as she took a bite of her yummy food. "Yes it is rather quiet. The greater good you say?" Kayla chuckled she somehow didn't think making house elves work was for the greater good. "Yeah just a little hungry. So what have you been up to since I last saw you?"

"I am very well thank you, and you?" he responded to her question, satisfied they had now gotten over his insane overreaction. "Just a little hungry and I think I might have a sore head coming on. I've been too much thinking."

"Not much. I chased down Truebridge to talk to him about the secret room, you know, the one on the sixth floor? But he wasn't in his office" He explained its whereabouts incase someone dozed her with memory loss, which was found to be common when people entered suspicious things not meant for their eyes. "Did much happen there after I left?"

"Equally well" Kayla replied, still tucking into her food. Those house elves sure did know how to cook, she wondered if she could take one home with her. She was staring off across the hall and thinking about house elves before realising that Varius was talking to her. "What have you been thinking about that has given you a sore head?"


"Oh what a shame you didn't find him but do you really think he would know about it? And yes Varius, I do recall the room on the sixth floor." Kayla chuckled and leaned over and pinched him on the cheek, he was just so...precious. "Well now that you mention it, as a matter of fact something did happen. When I left the room I found the Fat Friar in the corridor talking to himself. We had a lovely conversation about how the ghosts don't influence the new dead to hang around. And then all the other ghosts appeared bar the baron and apparently they're holding some sort of council but non dead people aren't allowed to go, I know this because I asked. Anyway They headed down to the fifth floor where they found the baron and then they disappeared into a room that none of us can get into" she took a deep breath and looked at Varius with excitment. "Something is going on and I'm going to find out what it is."

"Just homework, all this ghost nonsense and trying to memorise all of these portraits as well... I think I may have forgotten the name of a leprechaun on the seventh floor... I should probably go revisit him," he pondered, eating some cheesecake this time - it was a wonder he wasn't already stuffed.

"Well," he began, ready to explain his reasoning, "Truebridge is the history teacher and at some point these ghosts disappeared... who best to know when and how than he who studies this sort of thing. Okay, maybe he doesn't specialise in disappearing ghosts, but he should know how to go about finding out. I'm hoping to bump into him soon and try and get some answers... from someone who is living that is."

He listened intently as Kayla explained what happened with the ghosts, "So they seem to be linked to this mirror then? Very queer, all this floating around and into secret rooms and such. I take it not even Professors can enter? Bit rude also, if I say so myself. I wonder what is so serious that it has them reacting this way... I too, intend to try and find out," although at this rate it could take him a while.

"Why are you trying to memorise the portraits?" The only portrait she had paid any attention to was the one on the sixth floor with the dragon on it and only because Myrtle had made a point of it. "Ooh that cheesecake looks good, make sure you don't eat it all, I still have to finish my dinner first."

"Hmm...maybe. he certainly has a lot of books in that gallery of his. But I don't think he knows anything though, I overheard him talking to a student about the ghosts and he asked her to let him know what she found out." Not that she was trying to put Truebridge down at all, he was a very good Professor she just didn't think he knew what was going on.

"Yes very rude, the Fat Friar told me it would be better if I did something responsible like patrol the corridors" she let out a snort. "What's more important than knowing what is happening at our school." Kayla's face brightened hen Varius said he wanted to find out what was going on too. "Hey, we can be the dynamic duo and we can save Hogwarts from...well from whatever is about to happen."

She walked into the Great Hall and she looked around for a friend, she didn't see anyone at the Slytherin table but she saw Kayla and she saw that little puff that was in the mirror room. She walked over to Kayla and sat down next to her. "So I caught up with the Bloody Baron," She whispered to her.

"I get these certain hobbies," he tried to explain, "Which are unlike most of my peers. It just so happens that memorising all of the portraits names has become one. I am also trying to make my own runic alphabet, but it is proving rather more difficult than I had expected, so I may chuck that idea altogether."

"Maybe you are right, but it couldn't do more harm than good?" he said, finishing off his slice of cheesecake, not daring to take the last slice and leaving it for Kayla.

He smiled at his prefect's obvious, slight annoyance toward the Friar for suggesting she look after the corridors instead of letting her in on the secret the ghosts seemed to be holding. "Dynamic duo, eh?" he snorted as he laughed, which seemed to be becoming a regular occurrence. "I just really don't know where to go from here though... not when there isn't anyway to sneak into that ghosty room and eavesdrop."

She listened to the little puff as he talked with a mouth full of food as he almost polished off a entire cheese cake. "Is that where they were heading?" She asked him intently. She had stalked the Baron till he went a room she couldn't get into. That had frustrated her to no end. "Why can't we get into that room?" She asked him.

No... Cadence said thoughtfully. I went to a Muggle school for gifted girls, and most of the girls there were not very nice. Plus, I would go home to stay with my parents every weekend. So, I only knew them to act how they did during the school week. I mean, I made some friends outside of school, but I wasn't really close to any of them.

"Oh, so do we have any classes soon?" asked Isabella.

Kayla looked up at Paris and her eyes lit up when she heard what she said. "Oh really? And what did he have to say for himself?" she asked rather intrigued as to what information the sullen looking ghost had passed on.

Kayla placed her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands as she listened to Varius speak. "You know you're not like any other eleven year old I have ever met. All the other first years are out there trying to cause as much trouble as they possibly can and you just do your own little thing and mind your own business. I think that's why I like you so much" she admitted and that was saying something because Kayla didn't take to the younger kids too well.

"Well yes this is true I suppose and if nothing else Professor Truebridge is rather interesting to talk to." She failed to mention that she didn't particularly like him at first.

"Oh yeah you and me Varius, we could rule the world or the Huffie common room at least" she said laughing. "I think we need to get the ghosts separately, I almost had the Fat Friar until the Grey Lady turned up." Kayla frowned thinking about it for a moment, "Yep that's the way to go, we need to talk to them separately." She nodded as she picked up the last piece of the cheesecake, definitely the way to go.
