With its back to the wall, the lethifold coiled, and using the wall, projected itself with a substantial amount of force onto Freya popping one of the glowing balloons as it did so and dimming the room. It attached itself to her torso and neck, and began to SQUEEZE.

Freya had looked over to Lucy to see if she was alright when-
'Eep!' She heard a loud *POP* and felt a large Lethifold wrap itself around her neck and torso. 'Don't exhale, don't exhale, don't exhale...' If it was anything like a python, Freya didn't want to breath out because then she couldn't be able to take any oxygen in again. Keep calm, and reserve oxygen.

She had managed to force her left hand upward and partially underneath the Lethifold in order to give her neck a bit more room. Freya would rather suffer from a broken wrist or arm than a crushed windpipe. Ouch.

'Happy thought...happy thought...' All she could think about for a while was how bad she wanted to completely destroy the creature that was trying to squeeze her to death. Finally, after what seemed like an entire two minutes, Freya summoned her favorite and most precious memory. "Expecto Patronum!" She directed her wand up towards the Lethifold with her right hand, and felt a recoil as her massive crocodile appeared again with a sound that was similar to a muffled cannon blast.

Freya's crocodile emerged and began to snap it's jaws and twist itself around as it charged the Lethifold.

Daniel, with closed eyes, was still visualizing the first broom ride he had with his father by his side when he felt something cold. As if the warmth of his body was taken from him. He opened his eyes and was taken aback. He was being attacked from behind.

He quickly faced the lethifold but was out-balanced. He fell on his butt on the floor, his eyes wide-open. He was about to yell for help and send sparks unto the sky but he hesitated. The memory, the happiest memory he have was very vivid within him.

He pointed the wand towards the lethifold and yelled with conviction and thoughts into the memory of his first broom ride. "EXPECTO PATRONUM" In a moment a silver eagle came rushing towards the lethifold. As the eagle flew towards the lethifold he managed to stand and strengthen his grounds.

Sam could feel his rising panic. It was making him forget what he was doing. How was he supposed to stop them? These lethifolds...they were relentless. Sam cringed as he saw the Professor rescue a girl. She'd cracked under the pressure. Sam couldn't do that, he just couldn't. Slowly he began to remember what he was supposed to be doing. He imagined Aurora's face, her hair, her smile. Now he just had to keep it there. The hair of his right arm began to prickle uncomfortably, his panic rising again. Sam stroked his right arm quickly, looking to the left. Where would it be coming from? Suddenly, Sam became aware of a presence near him. He snapped to the right and his worst fear came alive. A lethifold. Sam's mind went blank.

It began to move back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, until it had gathered enough momentum to fling itself into the air and with the softest of noises, landed upon Paris' face, clinging to her like a damp, cold crepe and attempting to block her breath.

She wasn't prepared for what happened next. She was standing there about to pee on herself from fright and then everything went black as a shadow flung itself at her and wrapped around her face. She staggered back and fell over something. She couldn't even scream. She dropped her wand as she tried to pull the thing off her face. She couldn't breathe to to even mutter a spell. Her legs thrashed around on the floor. She struggled trying to get it off her face, the more she did the tighter it seemed to get on her face.

What little strength her little body had was seeping away fast and she couldn't get it off. Her arms grew heavy as she was about to suffocate. She couldn't struggle anymore and soon she stopped moving as the last of her air was sucked into her her lungs.

After casting his patronus, Helios held his last breath, knowing that if he exhaled there would not be another inhale to follow. The boy could practically feel the spectral creature standing over him. A being of pure happiness, ready to chase the shadows away.

While his heart was filled with hope and love, there was another emotion on the positive spectrum that was ignored. Between the blue and violet lights that burned within him, there was a indigo glow that flickered to life.

Compassion. The compulsion to put the safety of others over your own. Where greed took selfishly, compassion gave willingly, without looking for reward. What better gift than life?

While the after life was still hotly debated among the students of Hogwarts, the pegasus patronus almost seemed proof in angels. Feathery wings stretched skyward, and then quickly stroked backwards, propelling the steed away from its caster and towards the Greenwood girl. Enveloping the girl and the lethifold in its shining wings, the winged horse kicked and bit at the shadowy monster. Vexed by the shadowy evil, the light of good tried to pierce the darkness.

Clifford fighting against a lethifold probably wasn't the best of ideas. Not at all. He'd had enough trouble fighting against a BOGGART let alone carnivourous demons that liked to munch on little boys like him for DINNER!

Oh Merlin, this was it. He was going to die. Right here in this classroom. He knew that as he watched his classmates struggling with the lethifold. That thing gave him the MAJOR CREEPS!

And he could barely master his patronus either. He was DOOMED! He was going to die at the sad age of seventeen.. he hadn't even tried Firewhiskey yet! What a cruel world it was!

Panicking, Clifford gripped his wand tight and waited. EEEEEEK!!!

Ana was feeling the pressure. She could feel the fear in the air.. With her hand firmly in her wand Ana slowly walked in the room turning and looking to every angle and place.

Suddenly cold... despair...fear... sadness...

Ana froze. She felt it but she couldn't see it.

And the next moment she felt a strange touch in her heels and fell.

Panic! All that she could feel was panic. Her wand had fall from her hand and was too far away. But she would not give up.

Ana kicked the strongest she could, trying to reach the wand.

With the lethifold pushing her, Ana crawled and was able in the last tentative to catch it, before the lethifold pushed her far away from where the wand had fall. With a fast turning movement she pointed the wand to the lethifold and remembering her happiest memory she yelled "Expecto Patronum!" a beautiful lion appeared and ran to the lethifold.

With that damp an atmosphere and that lack of breath, he was surely to catch cold. He hadn't even worn a jacket out. What would mum say? Tsk. The oxygen and blood rushing to his face made him dizzy and he stumbled, falling onto his side and blearily looking up. He smiled weakly at Cela, waving, before the lethifold attacked again, its blunt strength pushing his glasses into his face and mushing down his nose. As it pinned his arms to his sides, the combination of lack of air exchange and unbalance caused him to topple over like a bowling pin, hitting the hard stone floor with a sickening thump!

With not even his arms to hit the lethifold with now, he merely rolled around on the floor in an attempt to geddit off, mirroring the Muggle stop-drop-rickroll technique. He just stopped after a few seconds of rolling, laying face-down on the cold stone floor and really kind of wishing he could take a breath right then. Was this... it? And he didn't even have a breath to say goodbye to anyone with? Suffocation was really quite a lame death. One that he didn't wish to pursue.

Meh.

Professor Kazimeriz swept forward, re-casting his patronus to defend the boy. His qilin charged forward, ripping the lethifold from the boy's face and sending it slithering back to the trunk. "Very heroic attempt, Addams. Nearly Gryffindor of you." he wrinkled his nose in distaste at the word. He did not dare leave the boy unattended... "Wingardium Leviosa!" he cast, levitating the boy back to the safety zone. "I recommend you practice protecting yourself first before you extend yourself to assist others, for this charm is difficult enough when one is defending oneself, and that much more difficult when attempting to assist another."

Suddenly! Panic! Without warning, the shadow was upon him!

Most battle plans do not survive contact with the enemy. This was no exception. Failing in exceptional fashion, Helios was brought to his knees, propping himself up with one hand. But he still had his wand...

The mirror of Erised showed him his deepest desire. A memory to be made. One he silently promised to make happen after this class. It wasn't a past reflection that gave him strength, but hope for the future.

"Expecto patronum!" A whisper to one, was a roar to another. What started as four pillars around him took the shape of a horse worthy to charge Hades. Wand aimed at his heart, he used it as a conduit to his patronus.

The eclipse. The girl. The kiss.

The shimmering silver steed grew the wings of an angel.

What she wasn't sure of, though, was exactly where those creatures were, and if--or when---they'd sneak towards her and began their attack. Her wand raised, Anna turned to face the opposite wall, her eyes drifting towards the dark corner in the far back of the room. Anna imagined a Lethifold to be there...stalking her and inching forward second by second by second. She didn't know if there was one back there for sure, of course, she'd just let her imagination run wild as a way to distract herself from he inevitable attack. Professor Kazimeriz was present, though, and no matter how much fear he actually instilled in the students, Anna knew he'd be there to save here if worse came to worse.

It happened before Anna even had time to prepare herself more than she been. The Lethifold had snuck up behind her, coming from the exact opposite direction than that dark corner Anna had been eyeing. She could feel it consuming her body more and more by the second, and Anna struggled slightly due to the uneasy feeling. She felt as if she'd suddenly buried her face deep inside a pillow, and that her breathing had ceased until she could find a way to uncover her face. The answer seemed so simple, yet so difficult at the same time. Anna felt the urge to claw at her face in an attempt to free herself from this intrusion. She knew that wouldn't work, though, so she gripped her wand even tighter and began to angle it slightly in the direction the Lethifold seemed to be in.

"Argghhh," she grumbled, starting to feel as if she might turn blue in the face and pass out soon. She needed a happy memory---and fast! Cale...she needed Cale. Anna squeezed her eyes shut and began to plead silently with her memories, urging them to float to the surface of her mind and help her through the mess she'd found her self in. "Please come to me," she thought to herself, trying to concentrate on Cale and those memories instead of the terror that had nearly overtaken her.

...and then they came.

They were few and far between at first, but the more Anna focused on them, the more they flooded in. Anna thought about the time she'd realized that "rude, ill-mannered, arrogant, clumsy" boy was her latest crush. She thought at the day he'd told her she was his crush, and then the day he'd officially asked her to be his girlfriend. Anna though about that first date in Hogsmeade (where they'd had their first kiss) and that summer they spent together in Hawaii.

Anna continued to angle her wand until it was in what she considered the perfect position. She looped her wand in the e-shape they'd been taught to do, and then, as her wand swooped downward, Anna called out a strong "Expecto Patronum!" Anna could have sworn she heard a slight whooshing noise as her patronus darted from her wand. Her beautiful silvery owl took off in flight, fighting against the attack of the Lethifold.

The silvery owl smacked into the lethifold, the bright light sending it off into the dark shadows. It slid around, trying to find another place to re-attack. The owl was vigilant, however, keeping the lethifold at bay. It finally retreated; there were easier victims in this class.

She didn't know what happened, she thought she was going to die. She wanted to cry because she didn't want to die. She would miss her family. Just when she thought all was lost and she wouldn't see her family again the lethifold was gone and the air, she sweet air was rushing back into her body. She sprang up choking on the air. She nodded and picked herself up and went back to the safe zone to recover. She was still a bit shaky.

"GERROF ME! GERROF ME!"

No bigger than a napkin? A NAPKIN!? Clifford didn't care how big it had been. It was still a HUGE SCARY MONSTER to him. Hmpf. Flushing in embarrassment, the sixth year pulled himself to his feet and studied his shoes as KaziMan went on about the charm.

When Helios finally took a breath, and the ringing in his ears was reduced to a hum, the boy couldn't believe what he heard.

Rising to his feet, his hair was a golden flame as his eyes stared blue ice into the professors face. "I was sent here as an ambassador of peace!" Marching up to Kaz, the boy stood toe to toe with the professor. "YOU are punishing ME for saving somebodys life!? Are you mad? If selflessness is a crime, I suggest you lock me in the dungeon." The attitude came from a brash young boy, but the heart of his words came from the wise man he could grow up to be.

Before walking behind the line, the boy lifted his chin less from arrogance, and more from defiance. The patronus does not come from the wand, but from the heart. The ways of this realm were not his own, there was sure to be friction. Culture shock.

Kayla gathered up her things, pleased that she had defeated the Lethifold on the first go. She headed to the front of the class on the way toward the door and as she was passing she heard Professor Kazimeriz scolding Helios. She grinned widely, "Can you leave him in there until...possibly the end of time?" she murmured to the Professor, throwing a smirk at Helios. She grinned widely, "Can you leave him in there until...possibly the end of time?" she murmured to the Professor, throwing a smirk at Helios. "Great lesson once again Professor" Kayla called over her shoulder as she headed towards the door.

"Excellent work, Miss Winters. Five points. You may wish to consider a career that involves DADA, such as an Auror -- you have a flair for it." Kazimeriz's expression did not change but his eyes glittered as he spoke.

She felt disgusted with herself. She had totally just shut down and didn't even try to cast her patronus. She wiped the tears that were falling off her face as she gathered up her things.

"Do not take it so hard, Miss Greenwood. Very few students can manage a patronus in the face of true danger their first time out. I always expect this class to be something of a train wreck. Keep trying. It is vital that you learn these skills." Kazimeriz said as he walked to his desk.

Kayla halted at the door and turned to face Professor Kazimeriz and she couldn't help but smile hugely. "Really?" She cocked her head to the side and looked at the Professor thoughtfully. Of course she knew that she had some talent in the area but she hadn't realised she was that good but if he Professor Valon Kazimeriz thought she was good then maybe she should reconsider her career options.

"Perhaps I will do just that Professor" she said still glowing in his praise. "Oh and thank you for the five points."

Picking up his things, Raiden paused in front of Professor Kazimeriz and bowed his head.

"Thank you for the wonderful classes sir... They're kinda scary, but I've learned a lot." He smiled at the older man and slung his bag over his shoulder, tipping slightly off-balance with the weight. "I guess not too many people could say they faced a lethifold when they were 13 years old... and lived to tell the tale, right? Well, not a lot of people up until now."

He bowed his head again in gratitude. Odd professor, but... he got his points across in his classes, didn't he...
