Daniel saw the Lethifolds and started to focus on the single most enjoyable memory he has. He won't settle for second best. He sighed and thinks about the memory.

The cold wind. His first broom. His father by his side. His first flight.

He is ready.

Breathing fast that she could actually hear it, Ana prepared herself for more minutes of pain.
Holding her hand and thinking about happy memories, the most she could remembered of, she waited to be attacked by the lethifolds.

Tobi gasped. He didn't like this. He didn't like this at all! It was cold and it squeezes and it was going to eat him!!

No wait. Calm down Avalon, you'll live through this. You can do this. Breathe.

He couldn't breathe! The thing was going to squeeze the life out of him!

You still have time! Pull yourself together. The quill shop. Focus!

Tobi went back to the time and place in his mind, the quill shop the smells and the tastes and the tactile sensations came back to him.

"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" He yelled, making the wand motion, no time to be meek about it.

His lumbering silver moose erupted from his wand. It never ceased to amaze Tobi how much STUFF came out of a little wooden stick.

"Hey Moose!" Tobi said, "hungry for some Lethifold?" Okay so Patronus' don't eat, but... well if the Lethifold wanted to try and eat him... it should know what it's like to be served up for afternoon tea.

Lethifolds?! Didn't they kill people?! Rian's eyes widened in fear when she heard Kazi say he was letting them out. Now she understood why this class was advanced fear. It was pretty dang scary that a professor would let out a few lethifolds and make the students fend for themselves.

Taking a deep breath, Rian realized that her patronus had vanished. Letting the breath out slowly, she nodded to herself. Room of Requirement...Christmas...dancing...Sneeze. Yes. That was the memory that would save her life. She took another deep breath, getting ready to be attacked.

Lucy looked to see what all the comotion was about to see lethifolds attacking people everywhere. Her eyes were shocked at the sight. She backed up againist the wall scared. 'Please dont come near me, please dont come near me.' She shook. She was afraid. She waited, she knew a lethifold would eventually see her and attack her. She shook at the thought of being eaten.

Copernicus stood and debated crossing the line. He'd created a patronus that was more than just creepy mist, so he should go out into the room and try to fend off a lethifold. On the other hand... lethifolds were dangerous. No guts, no painful death... no, wait. That wasn't how the saying went.

He sighed and crossed the line, his wand drawn. Hopefully he wouldn't get attacked right off.

...can't breathe, can't breathe, can't BREATHE!

Apparently closing his eyes had NOT been a good idea. For a moment he panicked and nearly fell backwards to the floor; he caught himself, however, and managed to stay on his feet. GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OOOOOOFF.

"Expecto... Expecto Patronum!" he yelped through the thing, waving his wand. Nothing. Nothing. Where was the bunny?!

Oh yeah... happy memory. Happy memory! He racked his brain anxiously. Where had it gone?! He'd had it just a moment ago, he knew it, what was it?!

Shiro.

"Expecto Patronum!" he managed weakly, using the very last bit of breath he had left in his lungs.

...oh there was the bunny. Bright shiny bunny. It hopped out of his wand, bounced to the floor, and finally turned and hopped at the lethifold just as Raiden finally lost his balance and landed on the floor.

This was NOT FUN.

The lethifolds coiling body shrank back and seemed to disintergrate and fall apart when the glow from Tobi's shining patronus. Like a hand waving through a cloud of smoke. The tropical beast began to make a break for it as it was caught up in a headbutt of Tobi's ethereal moose. The antlers in particular were proving to be rough going for the lethifold, until it had gotten scooped up against the mooses' forehead and flung back into the darkness from whence it came with a toss of the mooses' head.


The lethifold froze at the sight of the corporeal bunny, as if confronted with a natural enemy. It moved slowly, inch by inch twitching away from the brightness of the bunny, which was then comming directly for the lethifold. The lethifold withdrew, trying to dodge the bunny, which in retaliation leapt onto the shadowy creature and began to wrestle with it, taking jabbing bites and kicks, until the lethifold could stand no more and once again retreated to the darkness of the room.

From near the back of the room, one of the lethifolds knocked over an object sitting on someones' desk. FLOMP! From the sound of it, it was probably a book. Although, it gave away it's position, it lent the opportunity to another another one of the deathly shadows who hoped to attack someone who would be distracted by the sound. This one chose a young female student. As Rian inhaled, the lethifold struck and fastened its' cold, clammy body around her neck and torso, trying to strangle her.

Rian jumped when she heard something hit the floor. She didn't need to be able to see to know that the lethifolf was coming at her. She just knew it. And that scared her.

Eeeeeeeeep! She shivered as she felt the creature clamp onto her neck and body. She was so small, it pretty much took her from the neck down to the waist. And it was chocking her! Strangling her...SHE WAS GOING TO DIE!

No, no she wasn't. Happy memory. Happy memory. Sneeze. Dancing. Sneeze...yes. Okay. She could do this. She was going to live!

Mustering up as much breath as she could, she lifted her wand, only bending her elbow. Great. This thing was going to kil-

HAPPY THOUGHT!!!

She thought of the memory, filled her whole head with it. Just one small movement of the wand and she would get this insane creature off of her. Okay. Ready...go!! "Expecto Patronum!" she shouted, letting out most of the breath she had managed to scavenge. To her great delight, her cute little fluffy-looking house cat patronus appeared. Holding tightly to the memory, Rian set the ghostly animal toward the thing that was strangling her.

As even more of her fellow students got attacked by the lethifolds, Elizabeth froze in place, her inching toward Ludo forgotten as she struggled to keep her happy memory in her head. Seeing Raiden's bunny helped a little. At least it gave her a second of amusement, which broke through the fear that was gradually growing bone-deep. Not again. She didn't want to deal with another panic attack because of fear.

Gradually, her focus returned and she tried once again to bring her happy memory into the front of her mind. Mom, dad, RENT, she thought. Faintly, she could even hear the music playing in her head again, and she almost wished Professor Truebridge would suddenly decide to stop into DADA class. Because then she knew for a fact she wouldn't have any trouble thinking of songs from the musical. And she tried to keep her attention away from the thought of the lethifolds, while remaining on guard.

The lethifold that had gotten a grip on Rian was suddenly batted off by a paw of sharp retractable claws. Digging into the lethifolds flesh with clawed swating, the corporeal cat began to injure the lethifold, causing its' broken skin to ripple like a sheet under a wind. Being attacked by a shimmering cloud of fluffiness, the lethifold soon gave up it's prey, unwilling to put forth the effort it would take to subdue it.

The sound of the girls breath hitting the air coaxed one of the afore injured lethifolds from the shadows. It was still hungry as it hadn't gotten a meal the first go-round. Slithering along the ground, it found the girls feet and half-circled around them until it was positioned right in front of her. Concealed by the darkness, it crouched itself, preparing to strike out and grab the girl.

Lucy watched as everyone around was attacked by a lethifold. She sighed she hadnt been attacked...yet. She hoped she wouldnt, but soon or later a lethifold would notice her and would certainly attack.

Freya watched as several of her classmates were attacked. 'Geez.' Her cherry wand was still held tight in her right hand as she stared around. She didn't like the whole being strangled idea...nope, not at all.
She looked for her crocodile, and found it across the room, somewhat dull looking. 'Don't you leave me now...'.

The abyss gazes also. And after watching several of his classmates set upon by lethifolds, Helios knew trying to spot one before it striked was nearly impossible. They were being chased by shadows.

With a deep breath, the boy prince let his eyelids fall closed, immersing himself in darkness. Eyes can deceive, he trusted the chill in his spine.

One thought dominated his mind: Were the lethifolds attacking at random? Or were they saving him for a special moment?

From the front corner of the room, the largest lethifold in the lot glided silently along the floor as it spied one of the bigger children, whose patronus appeared to be gradually returning. Silently it weighed the opportunity to attack against the danger of the patronus, deciding to wait until the patronus had gone before exerting itself on an attack.

The slightly saline smell of Celandine's tears was a frankly irresistable scent to a hungry lethifold, who had been stalking her since it was released into the room. It waited. Watched. As other lethifolds attempted to smother their prey, until the exact right moment. A stray beam of light that was leaking down onto the DADA floor provided a good contrast for the dim and deadly shadowy creature and it sat there, low to the ground, watching Celandine as tears rolled down her cheeks.

Slowly, it began to rise from behind her like the head of a cobra until it stood high above Celandine, the sides of it's flattened and stretched body quivering and creating a rippled effect. In not more than a moments time, the creature had coiled itself around Celandine's neck, grazing its body against her face in effort to try and block air from getting in.

What!!! Lethifolds!!! What the hell was he playing at. Those things killed!! Paris started to panic. She couldn't take it she as going to die. She looked around for somewhere, anywhere to hide. Could she hid behind someone? Could she run? Where could she go?

Freya inhaled sharply. There were goosebumps on her arms now and she held her wand out. Even as she looked around nearby, her crocodile patronus faltered, and with a final dull flash it vanished with a stream of silver mist and left Freya staring at the darkened surroundings. 'Stupid thing...' The eighteen year old thought to herself quite angrily, 'Stupid emotions...always doing me wrong. No! Happy thoughts...think happy thoughts...'. And she started to remember the good days again, her wand was held in her right hand, ready to cast whatever spell the girl desired with a simple flick of the wrist.

Lucy looked around and saw Freya. Behind stood a lethifold. "Freya!!! Behind you! Look!" She yelled pointing her wand in the lethifolds direction.

From around Lucy a strange and humid air began to fill the immediate atmosphere surrounding her. From either side, two lethifolds were encrouching. They had been laying low to the ground and if she looked carefully one of the lethifolds was adjusting itself. Though in the dimly lit class in which wandwork and attacks were adjusting with the shadow and light, it could've been difficult to tell.
The first lethifold attacked from Lucy's right side wrapping itself firmly around her torso. It was follwed by a second one, which threw itself upon her head and began to obstruct her breathing by way of not allowing her to draw breath.

Lucy shivered. Why was it so cold? All sudden she felt something on her right wrap around her. She screamed as she released it was a lethifold. But the scream was muffled by another lethifold wrapping around her head. She tried to breath. Nothing. She could feel the lethifolds squeezing her.

Cela couldn't even cry out when she felt the Lethifold wrap around her face and throat. It felt like whatever darkness the thing was made of would fill her mouth and lungs if she so much as took a breath. Wrestling with the terror, Cela sunk to her knees and let out a little sob. It had been her fault they had nearly died! She felt more than just the lethifold pressing down on her. She could still see her hands, fists clenched and pressed painfully against the ground as she leaned on them. She blinked away some of the tears obstructing her vision and looked at her wand. Her wand! She still had her wand! Her fingers were so numb and she was so entrenched in the memory, she had almost forgotten. Lifting her eyes up to stare unseeingly around at the other students, Cela searched desperately for a good memory. She had found one before! What was it? Where was it?

Her fingers tingled again, almost the same sensation as... her happy memory suddenly embraced her again and though the tears weres still falling silently, Cela pushed herself to her feet.

There! There it was! She was flying on the back of her abraxan right alongside Copernicus on his while Professor Morgan watched with an expression of delight mixed with pride. Her fingers tingled again, reminiscent of the wind rushing through them and the joy bubbled up inside her stronger than ever before, "Expecto Patronum!" The wand movement was subtle and instinctive and the scorpion that rushed from the tip of her ebony wand was so clear and bright it almost looked like it would sting someone for real.

Professor Kazimeriz knew not to hesitate. He dashed forward in a quick, agile move, dropping his cane and casting. "Expecto patronum!" Immediately his majestic silver qilin burst forth, eager to drive the lethifolds back off the young girl. It lowered its head in an attack position as it moved forward, crashing into the lethifolds.

A tiny lethifold, no bigger than a baby blanket had found Elizabeth rather scrumptious looking. It's shape was rectangular and it held itself up by the corners of its frame behind her. Quiet as it could, the lethifold began to rise until it was almost tall enough to wrap around the girls head. Retracting slightly, it pounced and coiled around Elizabeths ribcage, squeezing upon the exhale.

The lethifolds squirmed and writhed as they unraveled from around Lucy, pushed by the force of the spectral-looking horned beast, whose horns were currently busy tossing one of the lethifolds into the ceiling. The other lethifold had landed beneath the hooved feet of the qilin and was being mercilessly trampled. At last done with the two creatures, the qilin gaited majestically back towards Kazimeriz and dimmed until it was gone.

Lucy felt the monsters leave her fragile body. She took in a deep breath. It felt so good to breath again. She looked to see who had cast the potronus that had freed her. She saw Professor Kazi. His hand was missing his crane. She smiled. "Thank you so much professor. I could breath to say the incantation." She said through deep breaths. She took out her wand and said, "Expecto Patronum." Her tiger came rushing out. It glanced around and quickly surround Lucy's body. She would be safe as long as her partronus was strong and out.

Kazimeriz moved to Porter quickly. "Of course. It is a difficult task, but critical for you to learn this in a secure environment like the classroom. Please go sit in the safety zone while you recuperate." he said with an unusual kind tone and concern in his eyes.
