Lisa smiled at Rachel and then tried flying back down. She leaned forwrd and pulled the rug gently towards herself, The flight was scary because it was so slow, she tried to speed up but had little progress. After what seemed like decades the carpet landed on the ground and she got off. She stood there like that for a while before getting back on again and flying up. Lisa flew around practising her turning.

Kayla sat on the carpet floating through the air at a leisurely pace, pulling the carpet to the right and left every now and then to avoid a collision with the other students. She was actually starting to enjoy herself and was finding that she was able to handle the carpet quite well, it still wasn't as fun as the unicorn though. She frowned to herself now why did she have to think about that.

And of course as soon as that thought entered her head, she spotted Nico again but this time he was on the ground helping a younger student, she looked more closely and could see that it was Astrid. Kayla chuckled in spite of herself, well that should make the younger girl's day she thought.

Too busy watching what was going down on the ground, she almost ran into another student and she quickly leaned forward so as to dive towards the ground. She successfully managed to go under the other students carpet but it took all her strength to pull the carpet back up and she was flying all over the place. Oh smooth Winters, real smooth.

She stood up, smoothed her clothing down and looked over in Nico's direction, hoping he hadn't seen how nervous she was. His smile reassured her that he hadn't, and she smiled back at him before he moved to help a younger girl off the ground. Mari watched, hoping the girl wasn't hurt, and when she appeared to be fine, she again turned her glance to Nico.

She smiled at him again, her embarrassment at the photos having long ago dissipated after she decided it was fine if he knew how she felt. It really wasn't that awful, and besides, he was fun to be around anyway. However, she just kept trading little glances and quick smiles with him as she didn't want to get either of them in trouble with Professor Vindictus.

It was really too bad they weren't able to share a carpet. That might have been fun. Nicholai made up his mind to catch Mari after class. He directed his carpet a little higher as he watched her watching him. How fun.

Even though she was sure, not a moment ago, that she was all done with the blushing, she couldn't help it when he called her his favorite. Why did he have to be so sweet and so yummy ALL the time. It would be so much easier to stop feeling the way she did if he was a jerk to her once in a while. Granted, she really would never want that either.

Astrid couldn't help but notice the small change on Nico's demeanor. She frowned a bit, wondering why everyone had underlined bits of sadness to them these day. Herself included. She couldn't help herself from glancing back at Anna at the thought, but she quickly turned her head back to face him. She had decided to let that all go. It was now a thing of the past and it would remain there if she had any control AT ALL over her emotions.

"I tried to remember to relax, but something must have distracted me." she confessed. "But trust me, this is NOT like riding my horse back home." she laughed. She subconsciously dusted herself off again, she turned back toward the carpet to climb back on. Once again, she sat as she was instructed and grabbed the corners. Then she turned back towards Nico and smiled. Well at least she knew that he would be close by if she needed him again. That made her feel so much calmer. Now all she needed was Maddox to fix her dreadful hair and she'd be good to go. She laughed at the thought and leaned forward on the carpet. She moved in a nice even speed, much improved since her first attempt. She glanced over her shoulder at Nico again and mouthed, "Better?"

"Its a special skill." Nicholai agreed as she responded to his comment about her fall being ladylike, "What can I say? You are full of surprises- I'm not sure I can keep up!" Nico winked at her, still hovering on his carpet perhaps four feet in the air.

"I guess you wil have to work on the distraction thing." Nicholai responded, with a smile, getting distracted himself but as he wasn't moving it didn't matter so much. He kept one eye on her though; just to be sure she wasn't going to go flinging off again.

Nico spotted Anna and grinned at her, easily directing his carpet over to her. At least she had the hang of things and wasn't likely to crash into him.

If it wasn't for Kayla's presence this would actually be quite a relaxing class.

Maddox noticed Nico and astrid. Poor astrid feel off her carpet, but it was much more graceful then his fall was.

Maddox sat in the middle of his carpet, Sure he would get it this time. He leaned forward to get it going. It was a nice smooth ride. He went to turn, and it was a little wobbly but he didnt fall off.

"OI! Astrid you ok?" He managed a grin as he flew past her and waved.

Kayla turned the carpet around and sit in midair for a moment, watching the other students fly around her. Okay so she had the hang of this thing, now what? She spotted Maddox a few yards in front of her and a smile broke across her face and her eyes danced mischeviously.

"Yo, Darcy" she called. "Fancy having a race?" he would easily kick her butt, she could tell he knew how to handle the carpet. But she was bored and it would also take her mind off someone else.

Maddox looked fairly comfortable; like he knew what he was doing. Nicholai wondered if he could convince Mads to try something idiotic... like a barrel roll or a loop. Probably.

Nico offered an evil-looking smirk to his friend, but didn't say anything, just lowering his carpet so he could get off.

Nicholai stiffened upon hearing Kayla challenge Maddox, almost falling off. He was glad then that the Professor had charmed the carpets not to be able to go too fast... since the two Hufflepuffs would both be the kind who'd forget to consider such things. He dismounted and stood, facing Maddox and scowling slightly; if Mads did anything stupid and Kayla got hurt from it, he wouldn't be happy. Nicholai walked toward the stands and took a seat with his arms folded across his chest and watched.

Mari knew the rest of the students were having quite a bit of fun flying around on carpets, but she had had enough flying to last her a while. She looked over at Nico again and she laughed a little as he seemed to be engaged with quite a few of the girls in class. He was something else, she thought as she made her way to the stands and took a seat. She would just be taking notes from now on, as she wasn't too keen on flying again, certainly not with so many other people around.

Sarah stood looking suspiciously at the carpet in front of her.
"You have to be kidding me! Flying carpets actually exist??!!" she said, her tone full of surprise and wonder.
He wants us to fly them? Well at least it has more space to sit on than a broom.

Moving forwards she sat down in the middle, very carefully.Crossing her legs, she grabbed the front 2 corners and pulled. It wasn't the smart thing to do.
The carpet lurched upwards and Sarah nearly toppled off the back. "Oh my god,I was hoping this would be easier!" she screamed, before the thing leveled out a few feet from the ground.

Looking around tentatively she saw the other students flying with apparent ease. Why do I have to be the one that can never do things?, she wondered.
Leaning forward as slowly as she could the carpet began to move again, this time the way she wanted it to.
"Huh.Maybe it won't be so hard after all."

Astrid smiled at Nico and said, "I'm sure you won't have a problem keeping up with me Nico. Unless your goal is to make a fool of yourself, then I guess I have you beat there!" She laughed and winked back. "Distractions seemed to be lurking everywhere I go. I'll get used to them one day." she said with a smile.

As she leaned back once more on her carpet, starting to match his height, she felt an overwhelming sense of comfort in the fact that he was watching over her. There was something relaxing about hovering in the air with her friends close by.

Allie looked around at all of her friends and classmates. She was eager to get started, even if she did just watch some of them falling to the ground. She wasn’t sure how different this would be from riding a broom but she wondered how on earth she would ever be able to hold her beater’s bat if she had to keep both hands on the corners of her carpet. She smiled at the thought of her chasing after the Slytherins on a carpet during the next Quidditch match. Haha.

She grabbed hold of her carpet tightly and leaned forward. It moved smoothly at first and then jerked a little, scaring her enough to pull back at once. When she realized how easy it was to apply “the brakes” she decided to try it again. Without the jerkiness this time.

Torchwood 10-26-2008 06:13 PM

Well, she certainly wasn't going to let go then....

Once she got the circulation back in her hands, Qaz practiced some more…

Leaning forward a bit to get going, then lean back a bit for a little height. She was still going slow enough that she could have outrun her carpet, but that was just fine.

Very carefully, she leaned a little bit to the right, then straightened out again. She headed to a fairly open patch where she could practice turning.

Time to pretend that she was back on her ice skates…figure 8s would be excellent practice. Carefully, she leaned to the right, farther than she’d done before…if she could just hold it..YIKES!

She straightened up, before she crashed! Calm…deep breath…down to the ground.

Balance, I need better balance.

BRAINSTORM! Qaz knelt on the carpet, whipped out her wand and conjured a small firm cushion between her feet….Thank you Professor Pierce!, she thought.

Sitting down on the cushion, she had her knees and feet for balance. Much, much better. Grabbing the sides of the carpet, she felt much more confident.

Lean forward…slowly. Now, back a bit for more height. Good, very good.

Now, lean to the left…not to far….hold it steady…slow and easy…

Sit back upright….lean to the right…steady….straighten back up….

Very slowly, and only a few feet off the ground, but Qaz was managing to do figure 8s.

Before she got dizzy or worse, nauseous, she landed for a well deserved break.

Disneymaniac 10-26-2008 06:35 PM

Theo carefully pulled up on the carpet. He wasn't sure what was going on. It was very bumpy. He didn't like what was happening. It was worse than being on a broom. And it was making him feel slightly queasy. He was flying up in a rather odd direction and he didn't like it. Something rose up inside. He suddenly vomited down his front, all over his Buzz and his robes. He began to cry. He didn't like being sick. It made him very upset. He wanted to curl up in a ball by the toilet, like he did when he was at home.

Liisa 10-26-2008 06:44 PM

Astrid was really starting to get the hang of this now. She was moving smoothly in each direction, though still at a much slower pace than most of the older students. It was going to take much more practice to be able to whip around like Kayla and Nico were. She watched them both and smiled, trying to make a few mental notes as to their posture and the movement of their bodies in alignment with the carpet. She leaned to the right and safely brought her carpet along side Allie's. She smiled at Allie and said, "Did you ever in a million years think that I would be flying around like this without screaming my head off?" She started laughing and added, "This is the most fun I've had since, well....you know."

Astrid moved to the left and brought her carpet up little higher. She was really starting to get the feel of the carpet's motion. It was so sensitive to her movements. On her way back towards Allie she started leaning a little too far to the right and the carpet swayed, threatening to overturn. Astrid leaned back over and pulled up sharply on the corners, settling it at once. She took a deep breath and thought, Darn it! She was angry for allowing herself to become too complacent. She leaned over slowly, willing it to move back to position next to her best friend. She blushed when Allie rolled her eyes at her and said, "I know, I know." Before starting to giggle.

Maddox noticed that Nico was a little angry. He hoped he hadnt pushed it with kayla. He wouldnt want his friend mad at him. He secretly placed an extra cushioning charm under kayla just in case she were to fall off. Maddox still needed to talk to Nico about the conversation that he and Kayla had had, hence the reason for Kayla being so cool to him.

Rachel heard the professor's reply and committed it to memory, should she ever need it. All right Rachel, let's attempt landing! Paling a little, she prepared herself and then gently pulled the corners towards her while leaning forward towards the ground. The carpet jerked downwards and then stopped abruptly when she straightened up. This is really hard! she thought to herself as she attempted another try. This time it was a little bit better, but still too fast and too steep.
She continued lowering herself in intervals until she reached the ground. Grinning, she flew back up considerably steadily to the maximum height and repeated the whole thing again. After a few goes like that, she finally managed a smooth landing. Panting, she got off her carpet for a bit in order to stretch her legs.
Soon bored, she plopped back onto the carpet and flew up again, resuming her floating and people-watching others.

platapuss34 10-26-2008 07:55 PM

Faye sat on her carpet and did as the professor said, every once in a while looking over at Anna and Cale. Anna got it perfect of course like she always did and Cale looked like he was scared to death of falling off and she didn't blame him. She grabbed her carpet and steered herself around trying not to hit anyone. She actually found this easier than riding brooms but then again she hadn't ridden a broom in years.

Kayla snorted, like she would care if she broke a nail besides that her nails were short so it probably wasn't likely. She moved the carpet forwards so that she was now in line with him.

"Maybe you should cast the bubble head charm because you're going to be eating my dust" she grinned at him. Kayla gripped the corners of the carpet and gave him a sideways glance. "Ready when you are."

After a bit of a rest, Qaz took to the air again. This time she went a little faster and a little higher.

She started making a big loop around the field, going up and down, speeding up, slowing down.

When she go back to her end of the field, she spotted her tabby, HiJinx watching. Slowing down and descending to a few inches off the ground, she flew past him and yelled, ‘How’s HiJinx? How’s my baby?’ before taking off for another spin around the field.

Allie laughed as she watched Astrid coming up to her, the color draining from her face, each inch farther she got in the air. So that by the time Astrid had pulled up next to her, she was completely white.
"Yes, I am." she said, giggling. "You should see your face right now!"
She stopped laughing as soon as she saw how afraid Astrid really was. She had known that her friend was scared of heights, but she didn't know that it was this bad.
"I"m sorry! I hadn't realized you were this scared of heights." she said. "Lets get down."
She leaned foward, and stoped when she was about 3 feet from teh ground. "Is this better?"

Torchwood 10-27-2008 01:15 AM

She was feeling much more confident at the helm, She still preferred her broom, but her broom wouldn’t handle passengers very well.

Qaz came in for a landing at the edge of the field, right next to her tabby. ‘How would my fella like a little ride? Come here.' The cat took off running…the other way.

Shrugging, she leaned forward a little too fast, the carpet took off to fast, she let go and fell over backwards. Qaz sat upright, holding a hand to her head. Ouch, that hurt.

Astrid just looked at Allie's face and tried not to look down. As long as she stayed focused, she would be alright she thought. She tried to remember what Nico had said earlier about relaxing and trying to think about her horse. But she was trembling so hard that it was utterly impossible to picture Sue clearly. She kept her eyes on Allie and said, "Its fine, just talk to me on the way down, okay?" And with that, she leaned forward slowly and started to come back down to where she belonged, holding her breath the entire way.

When she reached a nice hovering height, she exhaled and smiled weakly, nodding at Allie. "Yes, much better." she said. "I can't believe that I just did that." she said. "Maybe now we can stick to practicing left to right, instead of up and down."
