Kayla sat on the carpet floating through the air at a leisurely pace, pulling the carpet to the right and left every now and then to avoid a collision with the other students. She was actually starting to enjoy herself and was finding that she was able to handle the carpet quite well, it still wasn't as fun as the unicorn though. She frowned to herself now why did she have to think about that. And of course as soon as that thought entered her head, she spotted Nico again but this time he was on the ground helping a younger student, she looked more closely and could see that it was Astrid. Kayla chuckled in spite of herself, well that should make the younger girl's day she thought. Too busy watching what was going down on the ground, she almost ran into another student and she quickly leaned forward so as to dive towards the ground. She successfully managed to go under the other students carpet but it took all her strength to pull the carpet back up and she was flying all over the place. Oh smooth Winters, real smooth. |

"I guess you wil have to work on the distraction thing." Nicholai responded, with a smile, getting distracted himself but as he wasn't moving it didn't matter so much. He kept one eye on her though; just to be sure she wasn't going to go flinging off again. Quote:
If it wasn't for Kayla's presence this would actually be quite a relaxing class. |
Maddox noticed Nico and astrid. Poor astrid feel off her carpet, but it was much more graceful then his fall was. Maddox sat in the middle of his carpet, Sure he would get it this time. He leaned forward to get it going. It was a nice smooth ride. He went to turn, and it was a little wobbly but he didnt fall off. "OI! Astrid you ok?" He managed a grin as he flew past her and waved. |
Kayla turned the carpet around and sit in midair for a moment, watching the other students fly around her. Okay so she had the hang of this thing, now what? She spotted Maddox a few yards in front of her and a smile broke across her face and her eyes danced mischeviously. "Yo, Darcy" she called. "Fancy having a race?" he would easily kick her butt, she could tell he knew how to handle the carpet. But she was bored and it would also take her mind off someone else. |

Nico offered an evil-looking smirk to his friend, but didn't say anything, just lowering his carpet so he could get off. Quote:

Sarah stood looking suspiciously at the carpet in front of her. "You have to be kidding me! Flying carpets actually exist??!!" she said, her tone full of surprise and wonder. He wants us to fly them? Well at least it has more space to sit on than a broom. Moving forwards she sat down in the middle, very carefully.Crossing her legs, she grabbed the front 2 corners and pulled. It wasn't the smart thing to do. The carpet lurched upwards and Sarah nearly toppled off the back. "Oh my god,I was hoping this would be easier!" she screamed, before the thing leveled out a few feet from the ground. Looking around tentatively she saw the other students flying with apparent ease. Why do I have to be the one that can never do things?, she wondered. Leaning forward as slowly as she could the carpet began to move again, this time the way she wanted it to. "Huh.Maybe it won't be so hard after all." |

As she leaned back once more on her carpet, starting to match his height, she felt an overwhelming sense of comfort in the fact that he was watching over her. There was something relaxing about hovering in the air with her friends close by. Quote:
Astrid grinned at Maddox and said, "I'm fine! I might need you to fix my hair again a few times before class is over though." she joked, rolling her eyes. "At least it wasn't your fault this time, huh?!" |
Allie looked around at all of her friends and classmates. She was eager to get started, even if she did just watch some of them falling to the ground. She wasn’t sure how different this would be from riding a broom but she wondered how on earth she would ever be able to hold her beater’s bat if she had to keep both hands on the corners of her carpet. She smiled at the thought of her chasing after the Slytherins on a carpet during the next Quidditch match. Haha. She grabbed hold of her carpet tightly and leaned forward. It moved smoothly at first and then jerked a little, scaring her enough to pull back at once. When she realized how easy it was to apply “the brakes” she decided to try it again. Without the jerkiness this time. |

"You'll tumble off onto the ground," Vindictus replied. "It takes years of practice to master flying a carpet without constantly holding onto it." |
Well, she certainly wasn't going to let go then.... Once she got the circulation back in her hands, Qaz practiced some more… Leaning forward a bit to get going, then lean back a bit for a little height. She was still going slow enough that she could have outrun her carpet, but that was just fine. Very carefully, she leaned a little bit to the right, then straightened out again. She headed to a fairly open patch where she could practice turning. Time to pretend that she was back on her ice skates…figure 8s would be excellent practice. Carefully, she leaned to the right, farther than she’d done before…if she could just hold it..YIKES! She straightened up, before she crashed! Calm…deep breath…down to the ground. Balance, I need better balance. BRAINSTORM! Qaz knelt on the carpet, whipped out her wand and conjured a small firm cushion between her feet….Thank you Professor Pierce!, she thought. Sitting down on the cushion, she had her knees and feet for balance. Much, much better. Grabbing the sides of the carpet, she felt much more confident. Lean forward…slowly. Now, back a bit for more height. Good, very good. Now, lean to the left…not to far….hold it steady…slow and easy… Sit back upright….lean to the right…steady….straighten back up…. Very slowly, and only a few feet off the ground, but Qaz was managing to do figure 8s. Before she got dizzy or worse, nauseous, she landed for a well deserved break. |
Theo carefully pulled up on the carpet. He wasn't sure what was going on. It was very bumpy. He didn't like what was happening. It was worse than being on a broom. And it was making him feel slightly queasy. He was flying up in a rather odd direction and he didn't like it. Something rose up inside. He suddenly vomited down his front, all over his Buzz and his robes. He began to cry. He didn't like being sick. It made him very upset. He wanted to curl up in a ball by the toilet, like he did when he was at home. |
Astrid was really starting to get the hang of this now. She was moving smoothly in each direction, though still at a much slower pace than most of the older students. It was going to take much more practice to be able to whip around like Kayla and Nico were. She watched them both and smiled, trying to make a few mental notes as to their posture and the movement of their bodies in alignment with the carpet. She leaned to the right and safely brought her carpet along side Allie's. She smiled at Allie and said, "Did you ever in a million years think that I would be flying around like this without screaming my head off?" She started laughing and added, "This is the most fun I've had since, well....you know." Astrid moved to the left and brought her carpet up little higher. She was really starting to get the feel of the carpet's motion. It was so sensitive to her movements. On her way back towards Allie she started leaning a little too far to the right and the carpet swayed, threatening to overturn. Astrid leaned back over and pulled up sharply on the corners, settling it at once. She took a deep breath and thought, Darn it! She was angry for allowing herself to become too complacent. She leaned over slowly, willing it to move back to position next to her best friend. She blushed when Allie rolled her eyes at her and said, "I know, I know." Before starting to giggle. |
Jayne needed help "Professor? can you help me please?" |

Maddox grinned mischeviously and said, "Your on. But be careful, i wouldnt want you to break a nail." He chuckled and slowed down to a stop waiting for her to get even with him so they could race. He was sort of surprised that kayla was even talking to him after the conversation they had had. But it did end well so, who knows maybe the could be friends. Quote:
Maddox noticed that Nico was a little angry. He hoped he hadnt pushed it with kayla. He wouldnt want his friend mad at him. He secretly placed an extra cushioning charm under kayla just in case she were to fall off. Maddox still needed to talk to Nico about the conversation that he and Kayla had had, hence the reason for Kayla being so cool to him. Quote:
Maddox chuckled and said, "Just let me know when and i will gladly fix your hair for you." He folded his arms across his chest and said, "I feel like a genie for some reason." He zoomed around on the carpet and laughed. |
Rachel heard the professor's reply and committed it to memory, should she ever need it. All right Rachel, let's attempt landing! Paling a little, she prepared herself and then gently pulled the corners towards her while leaning forward towards the ground. The carpet jerked downwards and then stopped abruptly when she straightened up. This is really hard! she thought to herself as she attempted another try. This time it was a little bit better, but still too fast and too steep. She continued lowering herself in intervals until she reached the ground. Grinning, she flew back up considerably steadily to the maximum height and repeated the whole thing again. After a few goes like that, she finally managed a smooth landing. Panting, she got off her carpet for a bit in order to stretch her legs. Soon bored, she plopped back onto the carpet and flew up again, resuming her floating and people-watching others. |
Faye sat on her carpet and did as the professor said, every once in a while looking over at Anna and Cale. Anna got it perfect of course like she always did and Cale looked like he was scared to death of falling off and she didn't blame him. She grabbed her carpet and steered herself around trying not to hit anyone. She actually found this easier than riding brooms but then again she hadn't ridden a broom in years. |
Quote:
"Maybe you should cast the bubble head charm because you're going to be eating my dust" she grinned at him. Kayla gripped the corners of the carpet and gave him a sideways glance. "Ready when you are." |
After a bit of a rest, Qaz took to the air again. This time she went a little faster and a little higher. She started making a big loop around the field, going up and down, speeding up, slowing down. When she go back to her end of the field, she spotted her tabby, HiJinx watching. Slowing down and descending to a few inches off the ground, she flew past him and yelled, ‘How’s HiJinx? How’s my baby?’ before taking off for another spin around the field. |

Allie pulled the carpet to the highest it can go, and looked down at Astrid. "Can you come up here?" |
Quote:
Determined to prove herself as always, Astrid held on tight and lean back as far as she could (without tumbling off the back) until she was floating in midair, right beside Allie. "There! Happy now?" she asked. It was a horrible feeling being so high up and Astrid started feeling a little queasy. "Umm, Allie, let's go back down now, okay." she said quietly, afraid to open her mouth too much. "I don't feel so hot up here." |
Quote:
Allie laughed as she watched Astrid coming up to her, the color draining from her face, each inch farther she got in the air. So that by the time Astrid had pulled up next to her, she was completely white. "Yes, I am." she said, giggling. "You should see your face right now!" She stopped laughing as soon as she saw how afraid Astrid really was. She had known that her friend was scared of heights, but she didn't know that it was this bad. "I"m sorry! I hadn't realized you were this scared of heights." she said. "Lets get down." She leaned foward, and stoped when she was about 3 feet from teh ground. "Is this better?" |
She was feeling much more confident at the helm, She still preferred her broom, but her broom wouldn’t handle passengers very well. Qaz came in for a landing at the edge of the field, right next to her tabby. ‘How would my fella like a little ride? Come here.' The cat took off running…the other way. Shrugging, she leaned forward a little too fast, the carpet took off to fast, she let go and fell over backwards. Qaz sat upright, holding a hand to her head. Ouch, that hurt. |
Quote:
When she reached a nice hovering height, she exhaled and smiled weakly, nodding at Allie. "Yes, much better." she said. "I can't believe that I just did that." she said. "Maybe now we can stick to practicing left to right, instead of up and down." |
