Charms Lesson Three Cassandra Trelawney opened the door to the charms classroom and entered, locking it behind her. She sent a spell to clean up after the previous class. She made sure all the tables and chairs were in order and clean. She looked out of the window overlooking the front drive, and smiled. She was in her healer robes, and she held her wand tightly in her hands. She took conjured a cot and left it in the middle of the class. She couldn't wait until the student would file in... She looked at the clock and decided it was time. She unlocked the door and moved to sit behind the desk, which was to the right of the podium. |
Raiden walked into Charms class, feeling a bit better now than he had earlier. And then... he saw the professor. Miss Healer Intern Lady Trelawney. Teaching Charms. Raiden felt his stomach tighten up a bit. He hoped she wasn't mad at him, for having been so bad before. "Hello, Miss Healer Intern Lady Trelawney," he said, smiling at her and hoping that she would return the expression. "How are you today?" |
Lucas walked into the classroom and almost back peddled when he saw the Nurse Intern. He gulped and hiked a smile on his face and puffed out his chest and walked in. "Good afternoon Nurse Trelawney Madame." He said formally bowing her to her slightly. She was big on manners and he didn't want her vulture-like glare to gaze upon him. He rather thought she would delight in burning him on a spit if he crossed her. He quickly sat down and found his seat. He didn't want to give her any cause to be stern with him. She scared the Transformer underwear off of him. |
Meagn strolled in "hello" she said cheerfully to the proffesor and nodded at the young slytherins they seemed to gather together. "How are you" she added hoppeing this would be a fun class she sat front center |
"I am well... and, call me Ms Trelawney," She said smiling at the students. "I hope you all went over your charms chapters..." She said looking at the book before her, "we're going to do a little review first... before I actually teach." |
Megan nodded and opened her book she was glad this class was one of her best she didn't think she would do well if it wasn't a knack of hers |
Hannah walked into the charms classroom. "Hello, Ms. Trelawney," Hannah greeted her teacher politely. She wasn't quite sure what her formal title was, exactly, so she was glad that she had walked in right as the teacher was telling the students how to address her. |

"Okay. Ms. Trelawney," he said softly. "And I'm looking forward to your class today. I think it will be-" -he eyed the cot- "-interesting. And hopefully lots of fun." He stood there for a second longer before taking a seat as close to the front as he could get. Quietly, he slid his Charms book from his bag and started to review. |
Whitney walked into the Charms classroom. "Hello Ms. Trelawney. How have you been? I can't wait for class to get started" Which was pretty true. Quote:
|
Entering the charms classroom, Dominic wasn't really sure what to expect. First lesson it was Professor Hawkins, second it was his head of house, and third .... the pretty |
Rapunzel strolled into Charms, merely raising an eyebrow at the cot in the center of the room. She wasn't at all surprised to see the Intern teaching; after all, she did read the notices in their common room. Punz nodded to the teacher and took a seat in the center of the room. No need to be too close to Trelawney, after all, she had an....interesting reputation. |

Staring our the window blankly, Dominic hardly noticed someone talking to him. Probably just the student behind me ... But there were no other voices after that, causing the fourth year to turn away from the window and tilt his head as he stared up at a young girl wearing a green tie. "Not with me, but the seat next is open," he told her, shrugging. He wasn't about to stop her. |
Hannah felt a little relieved when she saw Whitney walk into the room. "Hi, Whitney," she said to her. "Hello. I'm Hannah Weasley," she said to the boy at the desk. "Do you mind if I join you?" she directed back at Whitney. |
Frightfully, she stepped into the classroom, not expecting to find such an ambiance. To Daphne, it seemed that she accidentally had stumbled into an operating room. The kinds you'd see in dramatic hospital shows in muggle television where the tools and gadgets didn't truthfully work. Hopton's hazel eyes swept over Trelawney's body quickly before she took a seat, not uttering a word. Detention was still fresh in her mind (and it would forever be) and she had no intention of going through something similar again, no matter how much she despised this brand of grown up. |
Review. Piece of cake. She'd read the whole textbook already...twice. She grabbed her usual note-taking tools and waited. Hopefully Cassandra would make this an interesting lesson. |
Curtis Diggory came into the classroom after finishing another essay. That off period really wasn't proving to be so much of an off period after all. His eyes scanned the room and found Rapunzel, his grey eyes automatically lit up. Walking across the room Curt pulled out his charms book and sat down on the seat next to Punzie. Curt's eyes flickered up to his former peer Cassandra Trelawney and his stomach went queezy for a split second. Something about her had always intimidating him; he never showed it on the outside though. Turning to Rapunzel, he gave her a small smile. "Hey cap'n. Big game coming up?" he questioned, although it was in sarcasm. Of course Curt knew the big game was coming up, and he wasn't going to be in detention this time. Like he was for the last game. |

"By the way, I'm Whitney." |

And then another girl came up to the girl who had asked him not moments before to sit next to him. Oh for canaries sake; they were like a flock of bees after honey! Sighing, Dominic rested his chin lazily on his hand and eyed her as she introduced herself. "Dominic," he replied to both Hannah and Whitney, but left it there. No need to say more than necessary. |
Hannah looked warily at the boy who'd just introduced himself as Dominic. He didn't seem to be very friendly. She shrugged it off and took a seat on the other side of Whitney, leaving her in the middle. Dominic intimidated her a little. But maybe he was nice, she just didn't know him very well... Oh, well. Whatever. she decided. Hannah's eyes involuntarily followed the boy who'd just walked into the room. He was rather... beautiful. He was in Hufflepuff and looked to be somewhere around sixth year. She blushed and looked away. She hoped he hadn't noticed. Time to focus!! He's too old for you, anyway, she chided herself. Nothing wrong with eye candy, though... she said, giving him one last glance before she pushed the thought out of her mind completely. She pulled out her charms book, ready to review. |
"Settle down." Cassandra said with her usual more stern voice. "We're going to wait a few more minutes until the others get here... and then, I better hear no more chatting... GOT IT?" She leaned back in her chair and then said "I suggest you use this time to review the last few chapters..." ooc: I'm going to pick this up in 8 hours or when I wake up. Post away! |
Quote:
"Ello Curtttttis," Punz beamed, leaning back in her chair as she talked to him. "But of course there is...and I assume you'll be there this time?" She put extra emphasis on the last two words and winked at the older boy, before realizing that they were in class which was being taught by not-the-nicest professor.... "...And first we have to survive this lesson," Punz added in an undertone, nudging Curt slightly and sitting up straighter at her desk. She was great at Charms but who knew how this "professor" taught. Punz was guessing that she probably didn't like idle chatter, if her speech a second before had been any indication. Rapunzel sighed and opened her neatly arranged book to a random page, spotting the phrase, "careful pronunciation" right away. Oooh, those o's kinda look like little quidditch hoops, she thought, starting to doodle in the book. And that l could be a sideways broom.... |

Megan turned around in her seat to look at the class she smiled to herself to see a bunch of younger students gathered around an annoyed looking slythrin boy. The lower students were being quite brave |

Curt shook his head slightly with a laugh as he set his quill and ink on his desk. “Yeah I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Curt sighed, he wouldn’t have missed the last game for the world but, things happened. “Not that I’m needed. You were chasing like an animal. Kaika filled my place as Keeper beautifully and Dom was faster than a bullet.” Curt gave her a wry grin, he loved talking Quidditch, and he knew Punzie did too. Trelawney called out to the class in a most bitter, harsh tone. Curt looking to Punzie with raised eyebrows and a slight frown. “No kidding. I’ve never been scared of charms until now. Not exactly my best subject either.” He said with a sigh, twirling his wand between his fingers rapidly. Another thought springing to mind, Curt looked to Rapunzel with a shifty smile. “So, how’s the tension with you and Ryan at this point?” Curt had always wondered how competition in a relationship worked. They were both the captaions, it HAD to be intense. |

Nicholai entered the classroom and made his way to the front of the room. Passing Camira, he smirked, "Now, now Camira; you are much prettier without the glaring." He winked at Whitney; the first year he had met in the great hall, before throwing himself casually into a seat at the very front of the room. He nodded respectfully toward Trelawney and immediately buried his head in a textbook, reading ahead. |

Hannah smiled at the Slytherin girl. "Camira, is that right? Nice to meet you," she said with a wary smile. She glanced over at Whitney and gave her a look that said, "Sorry... I didn't know what else to do!" She didn't necessarily want to be sitting with someone who scared her, but she'd always been a peacemaker, so she decided the sacrifice was worth it. She whispered to Whitney, "I think it will be ok. I think she thought we were trying to make a move on her boyfriend or something. Maybe she's actually really sweet," she said, doubting the words as soon as they came out of her mouth. |
Mariel was a bit surprised to see the Healer Intern at the front of the class as she walked in. Would she be teaching today? Mariel hoped so. She thoroughly enjoyed the Transfiguration class that Miss Trelawney had assisted with, maybe this class would be as informative. And she would never put up with the excessive chatting some of the other teachers seemed to ignore. "Hello Miss Trelawney," she said brightly, scanning the room for an acceptable place to sit. Her eyes landed on Whitney and Hannah - the girls she was working with in Transfiguration - sitting next to that book-hating boy, Dominic. Were they fangirling him? she thought as she walked closer, noticing a dreamy look on Hannah's face. And that friend of Nancy's... what was her name? Camilla? no, Camira... giving an evil glare to the two girls... Mariel resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Honestly, she couldn't understand all the drama girls seemed create over some boy. Smiling smugly and stifling a chuckle, Mariel said, "Hi girls," before sliding into the seat next to them. Pulling out her book from her messenger bag, Mariel began to silently read to review the previous lessons. |
Unsure what was happening except that they were evidently waiting a few more minutes for others to pop on, Dominic blinked as the next thing he knew was he heard his last name. Looking up again, his eyes widened at the sight of Camira Yaxley - the impolite girl who completely kissed him out of the blue in the corridor the other day. UGH! Not wanting to be reminded of that, he replied back, "Yaxley," in a rather cold tone, before blinking at Hannah's words who was chattering with Whitney. "I'm not her boyfriend," he told the young Gryffindor sternly, before turning his attention back to fiddling with the parchment, whilst waiting for the lesson to begin. Girls... |

She snorted at his comment, but didn't say anything. Not yet, she thought to herself. |

He smirked slightly at Camira's words but didn't bother looking up from his book. Truthfully he'd normally have sat with her, but it was much more amusing not to; much more amusing to leave Dominic to squirm. |

"Oh, hi, Mariel," Hannah said, smiling at her. Next thing she knew, Dominic was snapping at her. She looked over at him with a stricken expression. Oops. Didn't realize he could hear me... "Sorry..." she mumbled stupidly. She wondered what was really going on, then. She fiddled with her charms book, pretending to study while secretly stealing glances at everyone around her. The tension was so thick, you could have cut it with a knife, to use a cliched expression. AAAAAHHHH!! I can't take this much longer!!! she screamed inwardly. There's not much I can do about it though. Oh, well... She had the feeling she may have just created a mess. |
Finally a friendly Slytherin face. Nico had just walked in the room and winked at her. It'd been a while since she'd last seen him. 'I'd probably have more fun sitting with him and studying than being surrounded by all of this drama' she thought to herself. Whitney winked back at Nico and figured that if something else were to happen she'd either move with him or sit somewhere else. Whitney knew it was Hannah's fault. "It's okay. Maybe going over the chapters will help me a bit. Don't feel bad. Whitney knew this was going to be her last run in with, apparently her name was Camira. Than Mariela walked in. "Hey. Nice to see you again." she said than opened up her book once again. Apparently Camira understood that no harm was to be done. "I suppose. I did fairly well with the last lesson. But you're right. We should start reviewing." Whitney replied and reread something for the fourth time. |
Quote:
"Thanks Curt, but that game was too close for comfort. So you MUST play next match to ensure a Puff victory," Punz replied quietly, smiling as she spoke. She propped her book up in front of them so maybe they could chatter without the teacher getting annoyed. But still, class hadn't started yet...technically..... Punz felt the need to lower her voice a little when talking about this class. "I know what you mean....I love Charms, but it's weird when Professor Hawkins isn't teaching it." She shot a glance at Trelawney and then looked back to Curt. She sighed and started twirling a lock of hair around her finger, hoping they would do something pratical this lesson. But boy was Curtis chatty today. "Hmm, tension, do you say?" Punz raised an eyebrow, her green eyes sparkling at the topic. "Well I doubt there's much of that...I mean, my team has already started training for the championship game whereas Ryan is hibernating with his books up in the Ravenclaw common room." She shook her head, though she was still smirking a little. "I mean, strategy can only take you so far...and I don't see enough of him these days without Quidditch." Sooo true. |
Hannah felt kind of bad. She knew that Whitney was uncomfortable. "If you want to go sit with the guy who just winked at you, I won't be offended," she whispered. "This is a weird situation. Plus he's pretty cute!" she said with a teasing wink and a smile. She had no idea if Whitney even had an interest in him, but she thought the time was ripe for an icebreaker, and that was the best she had. |

"Ok, if you're sure," Hannah said to Whitney. She sighed. "You're right. I need to study." Hannah tried to concentrate for a few moments, but then Camira made the "inferiority complex" comment and she had to giggle. She glanced back over at the rogue winker (that's what she'd decided to call him in her head since she didn't know his name). "Oh, I don't have a romantic interest in him. He's not really my type. He is good-looking though." |

"Well of course, have you not seen him?" she replied, knowing Nico was listening. "There's no need to wait.I'm in the top five" she said almost laughing. Quote:
ooc: I have to go, be back on in some number of hours |
Hannah idly flipped a page she hadn't even read. She had such an issue at not talking during times like this. Sometimes she just got the yearning to chatter incessantly (er, actually, that happened kind of a lot with her...). She shifted positions and scanned the room. |
Hmm. Raiden knew that voice. Prying his eyes away from his book, he looked to his left and saw that Nicholai Toussaint was here. Yay! He hadn't seen Nicholai Toussaint since the Hospital Wing... He wondered what his detention had been like, but then decided it was best not to ask about it right now. What if it upset Miss "Hello, Nicholai Toussaint!" he said, smiling. "Can I sit next to you today?" He stuck his hands into the pockets of his robes and bounced on his heels. |
Quote:
Glancing around the room furtively, she noticed Lucas give her a wave. She discreetly waved back and gave him an awkward smile. Mariel would get up and sit next to him, seeing as she unknowingly chose the chatty area of the classroom to sit, but figured Trelawney wouldn't approve of musical chairs. She wondered if he had finished his map. She could certainly use a copy. |

"Alright, Raiden; but how about studying instead of bouncing, hmmm?" |

"I like studying Charms. They're fun," he said brightly, back still to Nicholai Toussaint as he picked up the inkpot. "This might be my favourite subject... but I'm not very good at it..." He dropped the bit of parchment and swiped at it as it floated downward. "Eeep." |

He turned a page in the book and stared at it a bit more. He could only remember a little bit at the moment. Whitney knew exactly what Nico was implying. She'd have to prove it first and if she didn't get back to rereading those few chapters again she would get in big trouble. So she turned back to the beginning of the chapters, having read them once already, and read them more thoroughly. |
Hannah swung her feet under desk - not enough to disturb anyone, but enough to keep her entertained. She didn't want to risk talking more, but she was so bored! |
Quote:
"Thank you, Nicholai Toussaint," Raiden said, as he looked back to the book and started reading down the page. |

His voice instinctively dropping with Punzie’s, he looked up to Trelawney’s desk to see if she was listening in after all. It didn’t seem like it. “I know right? Ah well, I bet we go over some sort of offensive charm today. She is always on the attack it seems like.” Curt said with a wry grin, as he continued to rapidly spin his wand through his fingers like a baton. No tention, it seemed. Curt’s raised an eyebrow to this, he fully expected them to be having some serious problems at this point. “That’s good to know.” Curt said with a smile, he’d been in the common room himself quite a bit, but he’d been on the pitch just as much though. “I see. Well he’s in NEWTS and you’re doing OWLS, so it’s understandable. At least it’s not like last year. I saw Vannah once at Hogsmeade the entire year, it was torture.” Curt laughed at the thought, that one meeting was great though, no doubt. |
Sapphire sat at her desk facing the front quietly thinking waiting for the lesson to begin she had over heard some of the students talking about detentions with her and Sapphire was not going risk getting one, she wondered what they would be learning today anyway? |
Jessica waited quietly for the lesson to begin, although her patience was coming to an end. She decided not to start talking with others, because it was one of the most common ways of getting some points deducted from her house. |
Astrid looked up from her textbook and watched the others quietly. There were some many Slytherins in this class. Wow! Must be what you get when Intern Trelawney was teaching a class. She shook her head and smiled at Nico before returning her eyes to her book. Hopefully she'd at least be able to earn some points for her house. |
Freya had tuned out all of the discussions going on around her while she flipped through her charms book, taking a couple of notes before closing it. She spotted a few other students she knew and gave them a small wave before concentrating some more on what they might be going over today. |
Hayden sat there quietly. She had her book out trying to review. She had no need for midless chatter. |
Cassandra looked up from her paperwork. "Alright... settle down." She said and with a motion of her wand, she closed and locked the door. "Anyone who comes in now is late and will have 10 points deducted from their house. ANYONE." She reiterated. She looked around the class... and smirked. "I am going to go over a little review... to see what you've learned so far. I'm going to give you a situation and a goal. YOU are going to tell me how you will arrive at said goal. There will likely be more than one way to achieve your goals. So I expect you all to have creative ways to handle it." She said and motioned her want toward the board. In a beautiful cursive writing, chalk appeared on the board. Quote:

Elan slapped his face with his hand and stared with a blank expression at his text. Really should have put more effort into my studies! he thought to himself as he looked around to listen to the answers others gave. |
Oh goodness. No matter what people said, Cassandra was still scary ... especially a Cassandra that could well take points off of her. Well, if she followed all the rules, she couldn't deduct points, right? Besides, she had to try. Frowning a bit, she raised her hand ... visibly. "Well, I'd say that using the Silencing Charm would be the best option. One could .. say, silencio our shoes and then the door so that it wouldn't make noise opening." Eh. That's what she'd do, anyway. "Or we could try and cast a Imperturbable Charm on our doormates." She added. |
Astrid raised her hand, high into the air and said, "Ms Trelawney, ma'am in that situation I would either very quietly, or non-verbally use the accio spell to summon my textbook to me." |
Elan raised his hand to offer the silencing charm, but it appeared that someone had beat him to it. Too bad really as he needed to step up and help his house out a bit more. |
Trelawney was frightening. There was no doubt about it. Clifford had been scared of her since his very first year.. and she only seemed to have gotten scarier with age. He was sorta scared of answering her question.. afraid she'd shout at him or something, but raised his hand timidly in the air anyway. "Well, uhm, Miss Trelawney.. you could erm - perhaps cast a Cheering Charm on them? So that if you - if you did wake them up.. at least they wouldn't get angry with you?" It wasn't as smart as a Silencing charm.. or a non-verbal spell - but it sounded way cooler. It sounded like a genius plan to him.. it's what he'd do... ...well, actually it wasn't. Heh. He'd much rather sleep than study thank you very much. |
Torie raised her hand to speak. The last thing she wanted to do was tick Cassandra off. She remembered her from years past, and she was never the nicest person. "I would probably get out of bed, walk out of my dorm, and then use the accio spell to retrieve my book. If I was within sight of my book from the landing, I may use wingardium leviosa. Either way, I would still haul my butt out of bed and walk out of the room so I wasn't disturbing anyone." |

Elan raised his hand. He finally had a thought and said to the professor. "Perhaps one could use the muffliato charm as a way to shield the others from being disturbed as one departed the room to retrieve the book." |
Wow. She wasn't angry with his silly answer! Clifford smiled sheepishly before raising his hand in the air once more. "You could use that Muffliato one." He nodded at what the Hufflepuff said. "And then you could use ... what's that charm that sorta makes you invisible?" He scratched his forehead for a moment, working his brain hard. Hmmm. "A - A Disillusionment Charm?" Goodness, what a long word.. now he felt UBER smart. Teehee. "That might be useful, I suppose.. and once you've got your book, you could hide under the blankets and use lumos to read it." YAAY! |
'More creative, eh? Hmmmm....' Torie thought and thought. How could she devise a super creative way to retrieve her textbook in a silent manner? Torie raised her hand. "Well, if I wanted to be really ridiculous, I could change myself into a giant canary using the canary transfiguration hex, and fly down from my room and retrieve my book. Or I could create a portkey, and enable myself to pop down to the common room and pop back once I had retrieved my book. That's all I can think of." |
Astrid smiled for the house points she had just been awarded and thought hard. Hmm, a creative way to get to her book... She raised her hand once more and said, "Ma'am, what if I was able to use the feather-light charm on myself, so that I wouldn't make a sound as I moved around the dormitory. Then I could preform the Muffliato spell to make extra sure that no one was disturbed. I could non-verbally Wingardium Leviosa my textbook up the stairs. And when I finally had my textbook with me, I could close up my curtains and use the Lumos charm for light to read by. Or maybe I could use the Protean Charm to turn the pages of my book into self-illuminating pages." Astrid crossed her fingers under her desk and hoped that Intern Trelawney would be pleased with her answer. |
Whitney listened to everyone's answers. She liked all of them but the portkey one was her favorite. She raised her hand. "I really like the portkey idea, only it would be too loud so you would have to either use the silencing charm or the muffliato spell." |
Cale thought to himself and tapped his chin. He couldn't think of anything creative...something that Trelawney would certainly call him out on if he didn't come up with something good, and something quick. He finally raised his hand to answer her question. "Well, you could always use Geminio to duplicate your book, so you have two copies. If I forgot about my textbook in the common room, I'd sneak down there and duplicate it and then bring it upstairs, so then I wouldn't be without one. Then I'd use an Inpenetrable charm around my bed, so no one could disturb me, and Lumos to read the book while hiding behind my curtains." he answered. |
Freya thought for a moment, wondering what charm she would use if such a scenerio ever did happen with her. Not that it would, she kept all of her supplies in her one bag, 'Hmmm...' She then raised her hand. "I would use the silencing charm as a few others have mentioned already, to be able to get to the common room without waking anyone up. Upon reaching the room if I was unable to locate the book I would use the summoning charm, Accio. However, after reaching the room and locating the book, I would use a charm that would increase the size of a bag, such as the Undetectable Extension charm." 'Like what my bag has...' Freya thought as she fingered the strap on her side-bag. "By doing this you can keep all of your supplies with you, and hopefully a repeat of such a scenerio will be prevented in the future." 'Of course if you're just a dull watt you might want to invest in a remembrall.' "I would just save myself the hastle and study in the common room afterwards. One night of resting on a couch wouldn't kill you. And less people to worry about annoying." |
Sapphire raised her hand and answered " Ms Trelawney you could use the the Disillusionment Charm to make yourself become invisible and creep down, to retreve the book, or use the Muffliato charm and then the Hover Charm and hover yourself down ma'am" |

As Trelawney began the class, Curt gave Rapunzel a bit of a side glance and pressed his lips together amusedly. Looking back up to the teacher, he was too busy in thought over Quidditch he missed out answering the questioning. It was an easy one too... Curt shook his head and just wrote down the couple that he wasn't completely familiar with and set his quill back on his desk. |

Astrid wasn't sure if she should raise her hand to say thank you or not. Well, better safe than sorry, she thought and with her hand raised high, she said, "Thank you so much for the explanation, ma'am. And the points." Then she smiled and started jotting down all of the other students answers on her parchment so that she wouldn't forget them. |
Daphne sat in the classroom jotting down some notes. I don't see why you couldn't just go down to the common room and get the bloody book, she thought to herself. She loved using magic, but some things wizards and witches did were absurd, and using two different spells to get a book seemed ridiculous. |
As Sapphire was going through her charm's book she came accross another one she raised her hand and asked "Ms Trelawney its just a suggestion but what about the Locomotor Charm wouldn't that work you could creep to the door way and retrieve the book that way ma'am" |
Torie sighed loudly. Did Cassandra not know about the canary transfiguration hex? It had nothing to do with being an Animagus at all. 'Better keep your mouth shut.' Torie thought to herself. 'She looks like she is going to explode at any moment.' Finally, Torie couldn't stand it any more. "Ms. Trelawney, what I meant about the canary hex was that I could hex a cream puff or something else I might have in my room and then eat it to turn into a giant canary. Presuming I retain my faculties while I am a bird, it would be easy for me to then fly down and get my books. That's all I meant. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear." It grated Torie to have to apologise to Cassandra, but if she wanted to keep earning points for Gryffindor, she had to be polite. Torie sat back in her chair and waited for her classmates to answer. She had no idea what spell Cassandra could possibly be talking about, though she was sure it would be obvious once they were finally given the answer. |
