He then looked to the boy talking to Lua and nodded his head. "'Ello," he spoke and then turned his attention towards Lu again. "Well, I just got back from the lake with Eternal, other than that, I'm studying. What about you? Haven't gone digging yet have you?" He raised an eyebrow in Lu's direction hoping that she would understand where he was coming from. |

"Don't say that. I bet you were too sweet for them" poking his shoulder with soft giggles. "I'm glad Eternal is doing good" her lips turning into a grin as she eyed him. Eternal was one lucky girl for sure. "No digging yet. How dare i try to attempt that without you? Eh?" giggling some more as she shook her head. "School is almost over, we may want to try that some day" studying him dreamily for a response. Corvus was one of those simple guys that one could just stare at for endless hours with no talk. |
Ryan smiled gently at Corvus. "Hi Corvus nice to meet you." Even thought is voice sound nice, he wasn't sure on which level to trust this boy with what he though was going on all around. "Best to shut my mouth and let it go." He thought but letting nothing appear on his face. Deciding to stretch his legs a little, he stood up but something caught is attention. He didn't know if it was just is imagination but from where he was, he could have a little glimpse of the restriced section and could see was a kind of mess there."Lua tell me, who usually got access in the restricted section?" |
Corvus watched Lua for a moment as the smile continued to stay upon his face. "Oh yes, school is almost over with and it would be nice to get into something." He chuckled once more as he looked to Ryan. "Very nice to meet you Ryan," he stated as he gave another nod of his head. "I do hope that I'm not interupting here." He and Lu had been friends for a couple of years now and it was going to be sad to leave the walls of Hogwarts. He was used to running to the library when he needed to chat to his best friend from time to time. Coming back from his dreamy state, he looked towrds Ryan once more. |

"No No your not at all" Lu replied squeezing his biceps, "we were just talking about those odd happenings around the school along with the missing kids" shaking her head as she agreed with her own words. "Have you seen anything peculiar Corvus? Out of the ordinary?" |

Evangeline entered the library and quickly headed to a far corner, her right fist clenched and a book on her left hand. The last time she was here, she wanted to keep her mind of someone and it had worked. Now, she was here hoping it would do the same. She knew she shouldn’t be there, she should be looking for Clifford, but she wasn’t ready to face him and tell him what she needed to. Besides, she had no idea where he was, and he had said he might go to the Library. She took a seat in a corner, opened her book and rested it on her knees. With one sad sigh, she placed the letter on the book, reading it once again and, holding the tears back like she had been doing all day long. |
Clifford happily walked into the library, he had a strange feeling that Evangeline would be in here, and he thought studying with Evangeline wouldn't be too bad. He wasn't suprised to find her, sitting in the furthest corner, she obviously wanted to study in piece. He remembered what she had said yesterday - about liking him more than studying and grinned. "Hey Eva!" He said dropping into the seat opposite her and smiling. It was only when he looked into her face properly, that he realised something was not quite right. She didn't look like the normal, cheerful Evangeline, it looked like she was close to tears. He felt his stomach dropping nervously. "Eva?" He asked, he voice filled with concern. He noticed she was looking at something on her knee, but he couldnt see what. "Evangeline, what is it? What's wrong?" |
Evangeline was reading the letter for the second time since she had gotten here, when she heard a very familiar voice. Part of her was glad he was here, but the other part just kept thinking she wasn’t ready yet. She was sure she would start crying in the moment she opened her mouth to talk, so she just kept looking down at the letter, taking deep breaths and thinking of what to say. Finally she looked up at him and felt the sudden urge of hug him, but she knew she had to say some things first, so she pointing towards the letter that was on her knees. “My father sent me this letter this morning.” She stared slowly, feeling her voice tremble. She stopped for a few seconds before continuing. “My grandfather died and I” She felt tears on her eyes again and quickly wiped them again. She couldn’t understand why she was so sad. “I have to go home..” |
Clifford watched her face closely as she told him what had happened. A small crease formed between his eyebrows as she mentioned her grandfather had died. This had to be the grandfather she had told him about previously. The grandfather who, like his father, didn't like muggleborns, and therefore disliked Evangeline and her mother. Something in his mind thought, good he deserves it, but he couldn't say this to Evangeline. He bit is lip nervously as he saw her wiping away tears, he was unsure how to react. Did she want comfort, or did she wish to be left alone? With a sigh, he shuffled his chair over, so he was beside Evangeline. He took hold of both her hands in his and studied her for a moment. "Is this the grandfather who..." His voice trailed off and he looked down, she probably didn't want to talk about that. There was something else bothering him however and he looked back up at her. "When are you going home?" He asked quietly. |
Still trying hard not to cry, Evangeline watched as Clifford moved his chair and suddenly felt his hand on hers. She wasn’t sure why, but knowing that he was there trying to comfort her was too much for her. She could feel the tears running down her face and there was nothing she could do to stop it. So, she did the only thing she thought it could help. She quickly stood up, dropping the letter and the book into the floor, and sat on his lap, cuddling against him and placing her head on his shoulder. Hearing his first words, she nodded slowly knowing what he meant. Yes, that was the grandfather who didn’t like her. “I don’t even know why I’m so sad. After what he did I should hate him” She sobbed quietly into his shoulder, not even realising what she was saying. Taking slow breaths, trying to calm down, Evangeline heard his next words and looked up at him, sadness all over her face. “I’ll leave tomorrow. I’ll be away for a few days.” |
He watched, horrified when the tears started rolling down her cheeks. If there was one thing he couldn't handle, it was crying girls. Something inside of him stirred, however, and he suddenly wanted to hold Evangeline, to try take away some of the pain she was clearly feeling. As she sat in his lap he instictively wrapped his arms around her, gently stroking her hair. "Shhh." He said softly, "It's natural that you're upset, even after everything he's done, he's still your grandfather. He's still family." He still wasn't sure what Evangeline's grandfather had actually done, she really hadn't gone into detail, but he hoped his words soothed her. His jaw clenched at her last words. She was leaving tomorrow? He sighed sadly, and held her closer. "I don't want you to go." He murmed quietly. "But I guess this is something that has to be done. Just like when I had to leave for home.." |
Evangeline kept breathing in his scent and concentrating on the touch ofhis hands on his hair, and after a while her sobs were much weaker. It was as though the worse was already over, even though she knew it wasn’t. It couldn’t be that simple. Yet, she had a feeling Clifford was feeling slightly uncomfortable by the situation and made an extra effort to stop crying. “You don’t know” She said shaking her head. “You don’t know what he’s done” She wanted nothing more than to tell Clifford what happened, but she didn’t know what would be his reaction. What if he got scared? She needed him right now, so for now she wouldn’t say anything. Unless he asked, of course. Then she might tell him. Her sobs became slightly stronger at his last words. “I don’t want to go either. It’ll be depressive…with all his pureblood friends there” She shivered at the thought of facing her grandfather’s friends. Then, remembering that Clifford’s father could possibly be one of those so called ‘friends’, Evangeline looked at him biting her lip. “I’m sorry. I’ll be back in no time.” Or at least, she hoped so. |
He continued to stroke Evangeline's hair, until he was sure she had managed to calm down a little. It was true, he didn't know what her grandfather had done, but he wanted to know, he wanted to understand what had happened. "Tell me then Evangeline." He said softly, "I want to know what it is your grandfather did." He wasn't sure if Evangeline would be ready to tell him and he sighed. "You know, talking about it might help. And I want to help you. Nothing you tell me will scare me away." He smiled weakly. "You're stuck with me I'm afraid." He was grateful that she had not been frightened away when he had told her about his muggle hating father, and he was ready to return the favour. He softly wiped the tears from her cheek, "I know you'll be back." He said finally. "I'll be right here waiting." |
“Don’t stop Cliff” said Evangeline when he stopped stroking her hair. “It feels good” It was true. It felt good and was relaxing her. She looked up at him and managed to give a weak smile. “I’m glad I’m stuck with you then” Her expression changed when she thought of the best way to tell him what had happened. “Do you remember when I told you about my accident? When I fell off my broom?” She asked him but didn’t wait for an answer and took another deep breath, feeling her lower lip trembling again. “It wasn’t an accident. Apparently, one of my grandfather’s pureblood friends made a comment about me. About how I was..” She hesitated and looked down at her hands. “An embarrassment for my grandfather and my family. He must have agreed because he sent someone to…well, kill me.” She could feel tears forming again and leaned her head on his already wet shirt. “That’s the real reason my father doesn’t talk to him. Because he tried to kill me” She finished in a weak voice. As he wiped away her tears, Evangeline felt her stomach jump and a warm feeling invade her. She managed to give a little smile. “Here? In the library?” |
As Evangeline shared her story, Clifford continued stroking Evangeline's softly. He nodded when she mentioned the broomstick accident, and as he discovered that it wasn't actually an accident his mouth fell open. He couldn't believe someone could do such a thing, and to their own family. He couldn't help think that maybe the world was better without the likes of her grandfather. He sounded more twisted then his father, who enjoyed torturing muggles. His father would never turn on his own family though. He held Evangeline close to him, taking a deep breath and inhaling the scent of her hair. He was glad Evangeline's grandfather was dead, he could no longer hurt her. "By the sounds of things, he's the embarrassment, Eva. Not you." He kissed her, gently on the forehead. "He's gone now, he can't hurt you and the rest of your family anymore." He chuckled a little. "Of course here in the library.. if anywhere at Hogwarts reminds me of you, it's in here.. who knows maybe I'll even get some studying done with noone here to distract me." He smiled. "Everything will be okay." |
After telling her story, Evangeline needed a few more minutes to calm down. He was right, talking about it did help. Fortunately, Clifford kept stroking her hair and soon enough there was no sign of tears, and if it wasn’t for her red puffy eyes and the trace of tears that was on her face, no one would realise she had been crying. No one beside Clifford, of course. It was in that moment, while he held her close and stroked her hair and while she breathed in the scent that came from his neck, that she understood how lucky she was for having him. As long as she had him, no one could harm her. Smiling weakly up at him, she slowly shook her head. “I told you I should hate him” She said simply with a small shrug. That strange warm feeling invaded her again as she listened to his chuckle. “So, you’ll come to the library to remember me?” She asked him a little surprised before reaching into the pocket of her robes and pulling a collectable card. A Salazar Slytherin card. “And I’ll keep this in my hand all the time to remind me of you” She told him softly, placing the card back into its place. Looking at her watch, she gave a sad sigh and looked back up at him. “We should get going. I have a long day tomorrow. And you have your finals.” She didn’t even want to think about the fact that she was missing her finals. She slowly stood up and leant down to pick up her book and her letter. Looking back at Clifford she took hold of his hand and tried to pull him. “Let’s go” |
Taika Ai slipped into one of the darker corners in the library to study. Her large bag, over full of books was slung over her shoulder cutting into the flesh, making her want to hurry and find an empty table to sit at. Soft voices drifted in and out of ears, diverting her attention from her slightly desperate search. With an exasperated sigh, she sat down on the floor, letting her heavy bag fall to the floor with a thud. She sighed in relief, leaning her head back against one of the shelves. It looked like the tables were fairly full, so she opened her bag and pulled out a book. The lake had been nice and quiet, but the sun had given her a headache, now her only worry was that maybe the continous hissing from whispers would make it worse. |
