Professor Wenlock is seated at his desk at the front of the classroom. As he waits for the students to arrive, he slides beads back and forth on a device in front of him and takes notes on a piece of parchment.

Siriana followed the Professor instructions. She first moved 9 beads on the first row of the abacus to the right then 1 more. She then moved to the second row. She moved 4 beads to the right then another 4 and another 2. She then moved to the third row and moved 1 beads and other 6 beads to the right. So that will be 10 beads on the first row and 10 beads on the second and 7 on the third. Well that would make a sum of 27.

Kassie looked at the equation 9+5+4+3+6. She moved 10 from the top, 10 from the second row and 7 from the third row. 9+5+4+3+6=27

Markie sighed as she snapped out of her daydream. She had completely missed the professor's question, which was answered right away by a gryffindor. oh well, she thought, i'll pay close attention for the next one! and waited with wide eyes for the next question.

Alicia took notes, while she listened very closely to the professor. Then she turned to her Abacus. She pushed 9 beads to the right, from the top row, added another one, and then moved 4 beads to the right, added 3, then added another 3, then moved onto the next row where she moved 3 more beads to make six. She counted the total beads, and raised her hand "Is it 27 professor?" she replied.

Jenna moved 10 beads on the first row, 10 beads on the second row, and 7 beads on the third. "Professor, it's 27," she said raising her hand, then she began to suck on a sugar quill.

Rose slid ten beads on the first and second rows to the right, then she moved seven on the third row. Despite knowing how to count, she still found it easier to do each bead on at a time. She noticed others were just shifting chunks. Rose counted up the beads on the right side. Rose thought to herself 27, she wasn't ready to speak up in class, she had become quite timid over the summer.

Beck sighed as once again, everyone else was done faster than she was, she was however, greatful for the other explinations as they left her understand the little beads a bit more.

Amy slid all the beads on the first and second row to the right and then on the third row moved over seven to the right. She looked arouns to see everyone else doing there work.

Stacey took her abicus and began to move the beads to the right hand side. She moved 10 beads from the top row to the right and moved down to the next row with another 10 beads to the right. The third row however contained only 7 beads to the left, bringing total beads to the right, 27. She sat back in her chair and waited for further instructions from the Professor.

Siriana moved 2 beads to the right for B and 1 more for A and 2 more for T according to the chart of Professor Wenlock. She then raised her hand "it's five Professor" she said.
