Sugarplum's Candy Displays
|
Stopping at the candy shop at least once during summer was a must for Henry. Even if he was able to stop at Hogsmeade several times during the school year, he always did his best to make a stockpile of his favorites during a trip to Sugarplum's. Plus, he liked to try to find at least one new type of candy to try and possibly even become a new favorite. Sure, he liked lemondrops and grabbed a good amount of those to stash in the basket he found necessary to carry. But of course chocolate frogs were what he was really after. Hopefully they had a large supply of those, or even some in the back, because he was planning on getting more than his share, and he generously helped himself to them as he started piling a large amount in his basket. |

THAT much was obvious. And while the 11-year-old blonde did not have THAT much of his allowance left to spend after already paying Magical Menagerie a visit he was not going to miss the chance to extend his Chocolate Frog card collection. Just as long as he did not end up with another Harry Potter. He already had about ten of the Chosen One - clearly an accurate name even now - and was still missing plenty of the original 101 cards. He hadn't even managed to collect all four of the Hogwarts Founders yet! Marching his way to the display, Derf's eyes widened when he saw someone else was already there and taking half the display with him. "Heeeeeeeeeeeey," he piped up, standing up on his tiptoes and tapping the older boy purposefully with his finger. "Don't take the whole dis-s-splay." Pause. ".....pleas-se." |
Now THIS was where Kane had REALLY wanted to go. Sure, getting books and all was fun, and it was getting him SUPER PSYCHED for school, but CANDY was his true love in life. Well, one of many. Sugar in general was pretty rad. One of the best parts about being a foreigner was that you got to experience fun new candy for the first time - and he was totally going to take FULL advantage of this opportunity. SUGAR QUILLS? JELLY SLUGS? CHOCOLATE FROGS? Where did he start?! All of it. Yup. He was just going to get all of it. Grabbing a basket, he started to grab handfuls of each type of candy, throwing them into his basket. He'd worry about having to explain the huge bill to his mom later... |
For Stephie!!!!! Once Olivia had stepped inside this shop, her eyes widened as big as saucers. "So Simon hadn't been joking about how amazing this place is!" she said, mostly to herself, as she walked down a candy filled aisle. This was all so... so... She struggled to find the words. Excessive? She paused, wincing at that. No, no.. Well it was excessive but not in a bad way... Merlin. She was starting to sound like Simon. But it wasn't excessive. It was a good kind of excessive. Gob-smacking? She sighed, wondering if that was even a word. Gob-smacked was.... but gob-smacking? That just sounded painful but it seemed alright. Olivia continued to walk past the aisles, stopping occasionally to check out the different varieties of candy that Sugarplums had. A smile tugged at her lip when she found the word. Impressive! Magnificent. Yes. "I can't believe a place like this exists," she said, in awe, as she stood in the middle of the aisle. |

Walking into the shop she looked around and took a deep breath. She loved the smell of this shop. Grabbing a basket she headed to the chocolate frogs first. They were her favorites so of course she needed plenty of those. Noticing a younger child grabbing handfuls of candy she couldn't help but laugh. "You might want to slow down there." She wasn't sure his family would like him have that much candy and then there was the fact that if he went to the register would he have enough to pay and she would feel bad if he had to go put it all back, well kind of feel bad. It might be entertaining to watch. Looking back to the shelf she grabbed the sugar quills. It was NEWT year which meant she'd be nervously chewing on those while studying. |
Quote:
He pointed to the quills and then held out his basket with a grin. "Mind tossing a few of those in there for me? Please?" |
Quote:
"I was thinking the same thing matter of fact.." she added while examining her jar. "I mean if this place was close to me, I would be here everyday..." She meant that to. "Some of these candies have the strangest yet cutest names.." she said examining their labels. She was used to the muggle names since she was still going to Ilvermony but she was transferring to Hogwarts next year. |
Hadley~ The candy display at Sugarplums had always been Mason's favourite place to be in Diagon Alley so it was no surprise to see the Ravenclaw filling his basket with some of the candies. He was currently standing in front of the chocolate frogs, wondering if he should buy one or not. They were rather expensive....and after his school supply shopping he did not have much left. The buy one or not to buy one. That is the question. |

Either way, she wasn't training now, and had gone way to long without sweets. That meant one thing: splurge. Big time. She had lost time to make up for and really she only had a short window to make it up. Humming Aerosmith's Dream On softly to herself, Hads threw a few more licorice wands into her basket and rounded the corner. Oooh! Chocolate Frogs! Yes, she couldn't forget about those. Hadley made her way over to the display and took a few off the shelf. She didn't look at the boy standing beside her examining the rows of chocolate frog packets, but struck up a conversation anyway. "I remember the first time I had one of these. Scared the bejeezus out of me when it leapt out of the box." She turned and looked at the boy for the first time and was surprised to find she recognized him. He was a Ravenclaw, few years ahead of her..."Oh, hey! Uh, Mason, right?" |
Quote:
It was at that moment he realised that Hadley was talking to him and not the frogs she was looking at and he raised his eyebrow. "You didn't know the chocolate frog would try to escape?" wasn't that common knowledge? "What? Oh yeah im Mason" he knew who she was of course. If there was one thing he was good in it was remembering names and faces. "But you did catch the chocolate frog back then right?" he continued. Losing a frog was the worst, perhaps that was why there were collectors cards in the packages. So you wouldnt have bought the candy for nothing. |

"I am going to share these with my sister. Without warning her. Should be good for a laugh." There was a devilish glint in her eye that the Professors of Hogwarts knew all too well. Mason. Yay, she got it right. It would have been embarrassing if she had been wrong. And a little insulting to him, she imagined. "No, of course I didn't." Both her tone and the amused look she gave Mason suggested this should be common sense. "I mean, muggle candie doesn't usually move on its own. It just melts while you are eating it." She shook her head, amused now by the memory. "Actually, I screamed and ducked as it flew at me." Merlin, that felt like another lifetime all together. Her first year at Hogwarts, learning all about the magical world for the first time. Now, this world was her normal. Her ordinary. No longer new and exotic, but still so very exciting. "So, how is your summer going?" |
SPOILER!!: Olivia turned her head to the person that spoke to her (Clarissa) and smiled softly, nodding in agreement. When the other girl spoke she noticed that the girl had a different accent. "Close to you? Where are you from?" asked Olivia in her own Australian accent. She was intrigued thoroughly by meeting another international student. "My brother went to school at Hogwarts and always spoke about this shop. I used to go to Beauxbatons and this year, I'm transferring into Hogwarts as a fourth year." She nodded at the girl before glancing at some of the names of the candies. The other girl was RIGHT. They did have cute names. The candies also were all different sorts of colours and shapes. It was fantastic. So much more fantastic than the muggle candy shops that she was used too. She made a note to pick her brother up some candies as she was, sometimes, a good sister. She paused, blushing a slightly shade of pink, as she remembered that she had forgotten to introduce herself. "I'm Olivia by the way. Olivia Holden." |

Mason imagined the reaction in his mind and he let out a snort at the image. Poor sister won't know what was going to happen to her. But this also made him think about something else. If she was going to prank her little sister with something so...normal...to him, then she had to be muggleborn. And yup, he had been right after hearing her say muggle candy. "They don't?" he asked, genuinely interested in this. He only grew up with wizarding candies. "That's ......interesting" Shifting the basket in to his other hand, Mason leaned against a table and shrugged his shoulders. "It's okay, nothing special happening other than my O.W.L results arriving a few days ago" Which had been terrifying by the way. "Did you do anything or go somewhere?" |

The fifteen year old paused in mid-grab as he felt a tap on his back and a voice of protest. Turning, he gave a small smile to the younger boy. “Oh, I wasn’t going to take all of them. They are my favorite, but I know everyone else likes them too." He glanced down at his basket. Yep, he probably had enough of those. He needed to get some other things as well. "There's still at least half the display," he added with a grin. "Plus I bet they have more in the stockroom." It'd do them well to keep a large stockpile as they'd probably sell out quickly otherwise. "You want this one?" He offered the one still in his hand to the boy. |

Wait this girl had manners. She wondered what house she would be in. I mean she had manners because her mother ingrained it in. "I am Carissa. Carissa Carraro. Nice to meet ya Olivia.." she held out her hand to shake it. She didn't mind making new friends in the intel. "Your lucky you get to go to Hogwarts before me.." Slightly jealous. "What is even this Hogwarts anyway?" She wondered what this outsider thought of it. |
Quote:
"No fanks," he replied with a spritely shake of the head. "You already touched it." Not that he was a germaphobe or anything. There was just a process to selecting chocolate frogs when he was spending his own Like...was he a seer? Because THAT would be really neat and then he could expand his chocolate frog collection much more easily. Because that was totally how seer things worked, right? |

There was a possible career for her. Starting a travel company that let witches and wizards take a vacation in the muggle world. Experience how the other half lives. Seems like most who didn't grow up as a muggle are extremely interested in all things muggle. So might be a successful idea. "Oh? How'd you do in them?" She was every bit as interested as he had been in muggle chocolate. The O.W.Ls were, after all, soon to be her future. Not this year, but next. And she still had little idea of what to expect with them. But it was still way too soon to be a nervous wreck over them, so that just left a sort of morbid fascination. "Nothing yet." So far the summer had been your typical, everyday summer break. Nothing special. "But in another week, I'll be flying to California with my sister, to spend the rest of the summer back in California with my Dad." Then it was back to London just in time to spend their birthday in their respective schools. The first day of school to be accurate. Which until Hogwarts, had always been kinda of a let down. But Hogwarts was to...magical...for that. |

Olivia took the other girl's hand and shook it. Carissa, hey? "Likewise. Nice to meet you as well." Carissa was an interesting name indeed. It sounded like an old, regal name. Fascinating. She could have fallen over at Carissa's question about Hogwarts. "What's Hogwarts?" She grinned. "It's apparently only the best Wizarding School ever. I'm here to find out. I'm also here because they're usual a strange phenomenon that occurs and I want in." Olivia was ready for the schoolwork and the unknown challenges that awaited her at Hogwarts. |
Quote:
Beauxbatons? That didn't sound familiar at all. "What is Beauxbatons?" she tilted her head in curiousity. Now she said strange phenomenon? Wonder what that could be? "What strange phenomenon? Like what exploring the castle and seeing the ghosts?" She knew each house had a specific house ghost. She was doing some research. |
Candice/Noelle <3 Getting all his supplies for his OWL year - INTERNAL SCREAMING - was a must and that meant coming to this very store. Why? Because sweets were a must and he had two sets of secret supplies to fill up: both at home and at Hogwarts. So, Phillip made his way into this store and headed straight towards his favourite sections, grabbing a basket on the way. Chocolate frogs would've been his first point to visit - Kat liked those, didn't she? - but his feet, instead, took him towards the crystallised pineapples. Besides, all the chocolate reminded him too much of Alice and he needed away from........ that. Grabbing a bunch of packets, the Slytherin started dumping them into his basket. He didn't really know how many people liked these but that might've been because he didn't really share out his favourites, only the ones he didn't care much about. This meant that he could grab as much as he wanted and relish in the knowledge and only he was going to eat this. Some called it greediness but he called it selective sharing. And, of course, the cockroach clusters received a scathing look while he was at it, as if they had personally offended him. DISGUSTING, they were. |

She turned and really looked at the boy. "I've never seen you around here before. New?" Not that Nat knew everyone, but she worked in Diagon Alley all summer in the music shop and she was pretty social at school. She usually could at least know a face and his was one she didn't remember. |
Quote:
"Mmm, nope!" he said finally, tossing the package in his basket. That'd be one more for him, he supposed. "Pretty sure this one is Gwenog Jones. I'd better hold onto it." He did have that card already, but he didn't really collect them anymore. Unless he found one of the three that would give him a complete set. He just happened to like the Quidditch ones, especially when they'd fly or do something remotely impressive in their picture. "Are those the ones you need for your collection?" He wasn't going to touch another one to help him pick one out, but he was curious since he mentioned them. |

"Beauxbatons is......" How could she put it? "French." It was its own special place. Everyone was beautiful there. She could have sworn that all the students were part Veela or something. She had so often felt like the ugly duckling with her unruly curly hair compared to the straight platinum blonde hair of some of the female students. "It's a Wizarding School in southern French. It's absolutely beautiful. Their academics are brilliant but it just didn't feel like home, ya know?" She hoped Hogwarts would feel like home. Olivia was more than fifty percent sure that it would be a good school for her. If Simon loved it, then there was an extremely high chance that she would LOVE it. "There's always something out of the usual that happens. For instance, there was a really bad winter my brother's third year there. So bad that they were snowed into the castle. Isn't that cool?" She paused, realising the pun. "No pun intended, of course. But then Professors and students worked together to find out the cause of why that was all happening. Brilliant." |

Carissa heard the girls question and was puzzled. Who did the founders name their houses after. Then it clicked because she learned it in history class recently. "Oh they named it after creatures they had encountered. Like Thunderbird was after the founder Chadwick who was an intelligent but often temperamental boy. For argumentative but fiercely loyal Webster, it was the Wampus, a magical panther-like creature that was fast, strong and almost impossible to kill. For Isolt, it was, of course, the Horned Serpent that she still visited and with which she felt a strange sense of kinship." Carissa hoped she didn't sound like a nerd but she loved history. Carissa heard the names of their houses and now they sounded cooler than hers. They didn't sound....what was it? Goofy? Yeah goofy. "Well those house names sounds more awesome than mine that's for sure.." she muttered out loud. She heard her brother Simon was sorted into Slytherin she said? She shrugged and was wondering what house she was gonna be sorted into. Then she had to ask this, "Well I heard a rumor mostly dark wizards were sorted into Slytherin. So does being sorted in Slytherin make you a dark wizard?" She was discovering that theory in her history class about other schools. Beauxbatons was french? "Sooo you went to a french school? Can you speak any french?" she was curious this one. Very curious indeed. So the unusual things that happen was they were snowed in a castle? She snorted with laughter. "Yeah...no. Not really cool. That sounds lame. I want to be able to play snowballs and make snow angels." Just her opinion. |
