Here's where you can catch up on all the happenings around the Ministry of Magic. If you have something to add that relates to employees in general, mysterious happenings around the Ministry, and isn't a personal roleplay, please feel free to post about it in here. What do I do if there's no activity or plotting in my department?
It's possible that there may not be a plot or organized roleplay happening in your department each and every day. What we're hoping is that you'll take the opportunity to create your own roleplays (within reason), whether they be work-related or something personal to your character. Nothing happening on your level? Then roleplay something happening! No drama or nothing to take part in? Create something! There's many different threads in your department and around the Ministry that you're free to explore and create roleplays in! You are also encouraged to contact your department head with ideas and concepts!

Looks like Lord Berty Borr has joined the MoM staff as Junior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic:
Quote:
Ladies and gentlemen of the Ministry of Magic,
We are very pleased and excited to announce to you that we have recently filled the vacancy of Junior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. Our utmost attention has been given to finding just the right person for the job, and we are confident that we have found this in one very busy and important person.
Please join me in extending a very warm welcome to Lord Berty Borr, your new Junior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. Mr. Borr has formerly dedicated his unmatched services to both the Ministry and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. He has served as an adviser to our society's leaders for years, having had a great allegiance and working relationship with Minister Cooper. In addition, Lord Borr somehow found time in his busy schedule to take on the role as Ministry-approved professor at the school for several years. His past achievements, as well as his promising future and and worldliness, will no doubt prove to be a benefit to the governing of our wizarding world.
With the addition of Lord Berty Borr to the Ministry team, we are confident that we're now just one step closer to keeping the Ministry of Magic moving in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Alexandra A. Carlton

So we all know that OOC the Ministry of Magic has been closed for some time, but IC it was business as usual aside from that one day of the Borr party. Here's some information for your characters, what they would know (or in some cases maybe they don't, but you can sure as heck have fun finding out).
Oh and *shifty* enjoy those bonuses, guys.
The last few months....
The last few months at the British Ministry of Magic have been rife with changes. The Security checks ordered by Minister Carlton under the advisement of Martel D'Isigny are now complete, and many employees were required to leave, or reshuffled into different positions. The Department of Education and the Department of Ministry Maintenance and Security are now defunct; Maintenance stands as its own office under the jurisdiction of the Minister's Office, and Security has been absorbed by Magical Law Enforcement. The Department of Education has no comparable body, as Martel D'Isigny has said, 'The Board of Governors is sufficient in regards to ensuring the highest standards of Education in this country."
The Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection
A new Department has been established: The Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection. Expected to work closely with the Creatures Department, specialists from all of the globe have been hired to do their part for habitats and environments of the Wizarding World.
The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures
Around the country the Wizarding public have become a large part of the political turmoil currently taking the forefront in Wizarding Britain. The number of protests regarding the unfair treatment of Magical Creatures in order to 'protect' them from Mugglekind have skyrocketed and there have been many cases which have resulted in a Statute breach. The careful handling of these unfortunate events have seen all Creatures Employees gain a 100 Galleon Bonus.
The Department of Magical Games and Sports
While it appears for the time being, Quidditch Pitches do not seem to be failing with the same alarming regularity, mostly due to the reestablishment of wards and protections surrounding the pitches. With preparations for the Quidditch Cup well underway, extra attention is being given to keeping the Pitches and the large numbers of Witches and Wizards expected to attend, hidden from Muggles.
The Department of International Cooperation
On an international level, it appears that France and Canada are both experiencing a similar rash of ward failures and Statute breaches for a large variety of reasons. Former Department Head of Accidents and Catastrophes, Charles D'Isigny, and Department Head of Security and Maintenance and Special Security Liason to Hogwarts Ikenna Gevrik, have been appointed by the Minister to aid and investigate these occurrences and have relocated to these countries in order to ascertain whether or not the occurrences are related, and provide help where needed.
The Department of Magical Transportation
Muggle transportation concerns have been addressed by the Department of Magical Transportation in a large-scale humanitarian effort, which has successfully avoided detection by Mugglekind. As a result of this hard work, the entire Department of Magical Transportation have been furnished with a bonus of 100 Galleons each.
The Department of Mysteries
The Department of Mysteries has been fortunate to gain yet another new Department Head, the Mysterious Ren Sakura who seems to have an agenda of his own. The employees of this department have received a 150 Galleon bonus for all their hard work and devotion to the Ministry. A call for new prophecy submissions is due for release to the Wizarding Public and as always, other Mysteries business remains a mystery.
The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes
In the wake of Charles D'Isigny leaving to provide aide to foreign ministries, The Department of Accidents and Catastrophes has also seen a new Department Head appointed recently and along with Games and Sports, are also focused on the recent Statute breaches and ward failures, even having to obliviate a few young muggles who discovered Hogsmeade Village and, in turn, Hogwarts School itself. Other Obliviations have been necessary and the Department is stretched rather thinly across the country.
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement
With various beatings of shopkeepers, several having gone missing across the Wizarding World in locations such as Godric's Hollow, Tinworth and Diagon Alley itself, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement is hard at work investigating these incidents. It appears one of the linking factors is that many of the victims have been Muggleborn. The Security checks undertaken by this Department are now complete, but Internal investigations are now expected to be an ongoing focus in the Ministry of Magic.
The Minister's Office
The Minister's Office has undergone some rather dramatic changes these past several months. It appears Minister Carlton and Under-Secretary Kutcher have fallen prey to a mysterious illness. Martel D'Isigny has advised the ministry as a whole that both are resting and are in quarantine in a hidden St. Mungos ward. The illness is not considered suspicious. Stepping up as acting Minister of Magic is one Berty Borr, who has appointed a new team to help lead the British Ministry of Magic. Alexander Greingoth, respected owner of the Leaky Cauldron, is now the Senior Undersecretary, and Nolan Reynolds, former Hogwarts Professor is the newly appointed Junior Undersecretary.

Once caught and unfolded, the memo inside will read:
Minister Berty Borr has called a mandatory meeting with the Senior Undersecretary and all Ministry Department Heads. The meeting will commence immediately in Courtroom 10 on the tenth level of the Ministry of Magic. Please be on time and bring with you all ideas and responses to the recent memo regarding the rejuvenating of our spirits and the oxygenating of our halls.
Oh dear, it seems the acting Minister has not only dropped the 'acting' part of his title, but called a meeting.
It seems that it is finally time for the employees of the Dept. of Magical law enforcement are finally going to be able to start workign for the Apparition licenses back!
Their first lesson has just begun over on level six!

It's about time the unhappy workers in the Ministry stared revolting right?
On that first note, Alexander's eyebrows creased inward in thought. Done with what? It could be a number of things, as Law Enforcement was a bit on the busy side. He had a feeling it ran deeper than that, though. They were here, silenced in a private room, after all. Alexander raised his creased eyebrows and sat in thought for a few extra seconds.
"I'm done with it," he finally stated, officially making known his stance one way or the other. Despite the fact that they were silenced and among no one else, he leaned forward and looked Bole in the eye. "Our Ministry has been made into a laughing stock with absolutely no regard to what it's purpose is in the first place." He glanced across the room, and then looked back at Bole as he returned to an upright position. "What do you have?" he asked with an upward nod, meaning the proposition that was brought up.

He smiled slowly, dangerously. "Oh, we have The Mailman. We have the names. We have a list of all the crimes that can be attributed to each of the key players, of which I hear rumour you were one, once. Do your loyalties no longer match those of D'Isigny and his lackeys?" He asked this last part conversationally, knowing it to be true.
"What did they promise you? Power?" He scoffed a bit. "With the cult in place, with D'Isigny pulling the strings and Borr playing figurehead, you'll never get it and if you ever got close Gevrik would cut your throat. But I can give you power."
He could. If Greingoth was willing.
"We need a new leader. When all is said and done. Someone needs to step up and show the people that we can be united. That the Ministry is for them. That our world is safe. I believe you're that man, Alexander."
His expression changed again.
"The cult needs to go."

Alexander took a few more seconds to eye this Van fellow. He was mentally accessing the man's personal motivations, because there were always some in this sort of deal; and also assessing whether or not the man was truly serious or out for some other cause. He decided to let both thoughts sit for some time while the man continued to talk.
...but then he played a card that didn't sit well with Alexander. The whole 'rumor you were one' line. He had been one, yes, as had his fiancee. As had Van's fiancee. "Well, I'm sure if we dig deep enough, we all know someone who may be connected," he brought up. In other words, you bury mine, I'll bury yours. ...and in the longrun, what was important was moving forward, which was quite possibly what they were doing now.
Had they offered him power? "I don't accept promises of power," he remarked. No one ever went anywhere but down when they were promised power. He propped his elbow on the back of the chair and then stared at a napkin dispenser as he collected his thoughts. "Let it be known that I agree with what's been said about the Cult; and also let it be known that if you are sincere about your beliefs, which I believe you are, then I am on board with assisting in a plan to remove Borr from office," he continued. "In doing so, however, I will earn my own power, ...as well as--an allegiance with you?"
Upon hearing that Bole believed Alexander could step up and take on the Minister role, the Senior Undersecretary turned his gaze back to the man across the table. "I'm assuming that you've already lined out a plan?" he asked. "So what is it? What are we looking at here?"

"Of course." Evander agreed, not bothered by the insinuation. "But some are more.... deeply entrenched than others, shall we say." And some would not be considered criminals when all was said and done. Still, he was more than willing to ignore a few things.
"Removing Borr from office and eliminating the Cult of Walpurgis from the Ministry of Magic and destroying its foothold within Britain as a whole." Evander clarified. No half measures, Greingoth. "In doing so, you'll be the new Minister of Magic, and I will remain head of Law Enforcement and support your new ministry... with the autonomy required for my people to do their jobs and keep the Wizarding population safe." Just to be clear. None of this ridiculous business with apparition licenses and the like. No roadblocks.
"Its in motion." He agreed, and leaned forward to outline the plan in a low voice, not quite trusting the silencing charms.
Paranoia. He had it.

He turned his back on her. Fine, if he didn't want to answer her questions ... but she still couldn't let him go. Lights flicked her wand, creating a Sticking Charm on the pavement where Victor had just stepped. "Why leave? We were having such a nice chat," she said sweetly. Her voice became cold. "You do realise you're still high on the Undesirables list, right? With two murders and assault under your belt, I can't just let you walk away."

So, the MLE'er used the Stickfast Hex against him. Silly girl! He was letting her go, but now she won't leave him alone.
Guess she forgot how good he was at non-verbals. Smirk.
A thin black smoke appeared to cover Victor's right hand. As it faded, a rather long rosewood wand with a very rare core of basilisk skin was in his grip. With a swift motion, he turned around quickly jabbed his wand at the woman's direction. "Crucio!" exclaimed Victor angrily.

Of course, of all those times he was safe and anonymous, the Cult was in charge and everything was in order....
Not anymore, there was DISORDER outside. And he still couldnt shake that feeling of dread when he first set his eyes on that MLE woman. He avoided looking directly at his brother lest he sees that sense of doom that he was struggling to bury "Nobody will come get us here. This is the Department of Mysteries-- it has higher security than anywhere else in the Ministry." he retorted. He neared the passageway that would lead towards the entrance and brought out his wand, casting shield spells at the doorway.
Paranoia. It was setting in.
Then questions sprang from his Unspeakables almost all at once. The ones that apparated with him, the ones that were startled on their sudden arrival. In a fit he swung his wand across them all, enveloping them in the Imperius Curse "BE QUIET!!" he bellowed. He needed to think. THINK! What should he do if the cops are onto him?
He wanted to run. Just as he and Alex has always done for years. Grab their gear, burn the junk and scram.
"Alright everybody listen up!" he hollered, then pointed at Marcus "You! Get up to my office, there is a locked filing cabinet next to my desk. Bring that down here, open it and burn everything you see inside." Paranoid or not, he doesnt want the ashes an the soot messing up his office. "You" he then pointed to Elina "If he needs help bringing that down go help him." Because the hissing and hip-clutching didnt escape his notice either. "Maggie, make sure they dont miss anything. I want nothing left of them." he commanded eyeing her squarely.
"Catharina" he said turning to the Prophecy specialist "There is a bag stashed behind the door in the Hall, I want you to destroy the orbs inside that." He raised his wand just in case she would resist "Do not question me. Get Katherine and that cripple to help you." he added hastily thumbing at the two Time Specialists. "And if you can still hear screaming from other orbs on other shelves-- collect those and destroy them too. Make sure you do not miss anything." he added glaring.
He turned sharply at that voice that he didnt expect to ever hear in the Ministry "Ennis?" he hissed, shocked at the presence of his fellow Cultists "What are you do-- nevermind that." Ennis wasnt Ennis if he didnt make unexplained appearances "Speak up, what is it?"

What's this? Uncontrollable drooling? Sure, maybe drooling could be considered "acceptable" at the food court because the food is amazing, but... This doesn't really seem like ordinary drooling, now does it?

What was going on? She wondered as she picked up her napkin and daintily dabbed at the edge of her lip. Pulling back her napkin it was drenched DRENCHED in what could only be described as drool.
Heck it looked like she was related to a flobberworm with the amount of drool she had secreted. What was wrong with her.
"Meh-winsh beeod" yeah like that made any sense at all. The drool now seemed to be pouring from her mouth and no matter how hard she tried to stop. She couldn't. It was like she had shoved a hose in her mouth and forgot how to turn it off.

Flipping the vase over the water and the flowers fell onto the table taking the empty vase up to her chin she let the excessive amount of drool just spill into the vase. She needed more vases. She just needed to get the heck out of dodge before things all went wrong.
Kyle tried to smile but it just looked like she had missed her mouth with a cup of water.
"I..." she trailed off a bit "thont...." why wouldn't this darn drool just STOP? She was mad at the drool, MAD at it. She wanted it to dry up and just leave her alone. Whatever it was - whatever had caused it should be cursed by Merlin and his ancestors for all eternity. "gnow" yeah that didn't sound like a word.
Sitting down on the table she put her forehead on the table. The vase seemed to be FILLED with drool already. She groaned - but it only made a gurgling sound. "I feel sick" she whined and taking her wand she summoned a white board and a dry erase board.
What's wrong is I CAN'T STOP DROOLING. She pointed to the words and groaned loudly and began to write again. I feel really sick...can you grab me a bucket? A really BIG bucket for all the drool?
She's not the only one. This International Cooperation employee seems to have a salivating problem, too.

She glanced from him to his hand again and took another step forward. Drooling a bit more - some of the drool sloshing down from her mouth to his outstretched hand.
"Brrrrr" it just sounded like she was cold - but the word she was about to say was forming slowly. As if her brain wasn't communicating properly with her own mouth. "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaain" it was slow. She was slow and lumbering as she walked forward again. Her movement yet again lopsided.
"Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain" she repeated. Her words getting louder and more moan-like. "Brains" it was sounding more natural to her now. Like the words were always there.
Glancing at the hand again she finally spoke a tell tale line. "Hand. Not. Food." It sounded like a question but it wasn't. It was a statement, "Brain food....brain" her hand pointed at Simon's head as she began to moan the word brain over and over again.

Sad news: If you don't already know, Anna Banana has stepped down as Minister of Magic. And that means that Alexander Greingoth is no longer our IC Minister. Which brings me to what I'm posting here: Mr. Greingoth's farewell speech:

OOC: There's no specific stage thread, but as always, there's a stage in the room we have the Orientation in. ;)
Well, Alexander supposed it was time. As soon as he got this over with, he'd be a free man. Free from the Ministry, that is. He straightened his tie then ascended up to the front of the stage, approaching the podium.
Looking out across the crowd, he magnified his voice then began.
"Honored guests, fellow employees, and my friends..., your attention, please," he said. He waited a few seconds for people to realize what was going on, and then he started again. "It is my pleasure to welcome you to yet another promising year at the Ministry of Magic. There are familiar faces here, as well as new ones, yet I look out and see the same wave of dedication I look out to each and every year. If not the same, then it's only getting better and better."
"Years ago, you welcomed me as your newly appointed Minister of Magic, and for years onward I took the position with honor and with pride. Yet for me, all good things, including the position, must someday come to an end. Over the holiday break, my term limit as Minister of Magic was exceeded," he said, pausing once again. It seemed only yesterday he'd taken the position, and now, his term limit had exceeded.
"So it is here that I leave you as Minister of Magic, and happily so. For I leave with thoughts of having had a good run and thoughts of opportunities that lie ahead," he said. "I'm happy to be able to spend additional time with my family and happy to pursue other ambitions while I'm still young." He grinned playfully at the crowd. "I thank you for the opportunities given to me while serving as your Minister of Magic, and I wish you all well. I'm also proud to announce that my oldest daughter, Mrs. Anna Greingoth Newell, will be joining you in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. I'm excited for her to experience what we all have."
"So with that, it is my honor to present to you Mr. Albert Kettleburn, your new Minister of Magic!" he said, and then he began clapping. He gestured toward Kettleburn. "Welcome, Minister Kettleburn!"
Ministry Approved Magical Plant Registry
Hopes to Keep the Wizarding Public Safe by Philippa Boulstridge
With the number of magical plant related injuries increasing by 60% among professional Herbologists and 150% among amateurs over the past five years, a new bill created by the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection (DERP) has been created to help ensure the safety of the wizarding public. The bill, entitled the Public Safety Act of 2081, states that, 'In order to protect all witches and wizards of the British Wizarding World, and to keep our humble community secret from the Muggles, ALL magical plants owned by our citizens must be recorded within the Ministry.' "This act was passed in light of several recent incidents concerning magical plants within Britain," Roxanne Carter, Department Head of Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection, states. These recent incidents include, but are not limited to, the untimely death of two Hogwarts professors by one Umbrella Vinora in 2079 and a muggle farmer losing their hand to a Chomping Cabbage that was found mysteriously on their farm just last week.
All witches, wizards, school representatives, businesses, and organizations must bring a list of all magical plants within their possession and proof of residence within Great Britain to DERP on level 4 of the Ministry of Magic by no later than September 1st. Acceptable forms of identification for individuals include ones apparition license or any other type of license. Schools, businesses, and organizations, must present proof of building ownership, such as a deed, when registering. Failure to register all magical plants will result in the confiscation of said plants along with a 50 galleon fine.
Anyone who knows of an owner of magical plants that refuses to register is asked to report said owner directly to DERP Head Roxanne Carter by owl. Ms. Carter also asks that the letter be written on recycled paper, which is available for purchase at your nearest muggle department or office supply store.
Roxanne: Well, what's everyone waiting for?! Get to registering!

"It was quite dramatic, wasn't it?" Amarantha slid around her lawyer in order to take a seat in the stand. Her bearing was regal, and she kept her hands clasped tightly together as she began to speak, although they soon strayed to a small pressed powder compact someone had left behind in the stand. It had a mirror, and she just... hadn't seen herself in ages.
"My name is Amarantha de Talone. I'm 20 years old, although I was born in the middle of the eighteenth century. When I was a child attending Hogwarts, the world was a very different place than it is for these young women who have testified before you today. You've heard from intelligent, well-spoken girls who have a bright future ahead of them - whether as a dragonologist, a journalist, a Healer. They have options. I don't think you can imagine how terrifying it was to be a young witch 300 years ago. I didn't have those options. A witch who was intelligent and well-spoken..."
She shrugged gracefully and turned the mirror over and over in her hands. "My mother used to tell me that I would be safe so long as I had my looks, that I should marry young and well and put up with whatever I got. That was the only future possible. Let someone take care of me and hope that my looks held. I don't know if you can imagine the deeply rooted fear of aging, of growing old and ugly, that results from that sort of upbringing."
She should get to the part about the crime. Obviously. "I confess today that I am guilty of wanting to stay young longer than nature intended, but these other crimes I'm accused of are simply preposterous. I never hurt a soul. I never targeted anyone in particular. I took something I felt wouldn't be missed, wasted seconds from wasted minutes. You cannot know how sorry I am that these children mishandled the orb and were injured by it, but you would not cast the maker of a teapot into jail because a child foolishly burned himself on the spout. Would you?" She shook her head sadly, clearly distraught that people had injured themselves by their own stupidity.
"I don't ask for forgiveness, but I do ask that you not judge me so harshly. I'm not a bad person... I'm just a product of a time and place none of you understand." Amarantha lifted her eyes again, a cool green gaze taking in the students present with something like hunger. Philips, Eventide, Hollingberry, Rastings, and that little one there. Jones, was it? She wanted from each of them exactly as much time as she'd had to age in prison. Two years. Two. Years. She wasn't a teenager anymore, and it was their fault.
"I'm afraid that's all I have to say." She closed the mirrored compact with a little snap and clutched it to her stomach. "And I'm afraid I've outstayed my welcome. I know where the Book is now, you see? I simply don't have time for Azkaban." And maybe after she got the Book, she'd head to Switzerland for a few decades. They had some lovely Muggle boarding schools there, and no way to catch a witch at play.
Amarantha gazed at the clock on the wall over the door, closed those great green eyes, and disappeared from the stand as her portkey-compact was activated. They'd meet again. She was sure of it.
JAILBREAK!!!!!
Also, what's this BOOK she's talking about.......? :whaa:

"SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
Teeth clattering once again, the creature began nomming its way out the other end of the cushion until it was out, scurried along the sofa, and LEAPED across until it landed on the desk and onto one of the fabrics covering the walls where it began scaling it.
Up up up it went while looking for another escape route.

It eventually made its way back towards the door and began to try and squeeze its way back under it.

At least he wasn't alone this time?
"I thought that they JUST fixed those things," he grumbled as they entered the pub and followed Emily to the table. "Reckon this sort of thing is what the Minister was referring to in the Prophet? Inattention to normal tasking," he asked while slipping into his seat. Because honestly, it was making the Ministry look bad to have all these constant problems. Not to mention giving him a headache because he had to clean up the mess and assemble teams from his employees to dispatch at all these locations as well.
"Either of you try the visitor's entrance?" He had and he had looked like a proper shrivelfig standing in it for a good part of an hour pretending to make a phone call before some angry muggle had come pounding on the door demanding he 'get off the bloody phone before he toss him out himself'.

There were traces of a scowl that began forming at Emily's initial response. There was either a lack of communication between several of the Departments or they were still in the same tight fix they'd fallen in right after the close of the Ministry. Neither was promising but the first would have been preferred simply for the fact that it wouldn't hinder the re-opening of the Ministry.
Gavin sat, his scowl only getting deeper as Aron continued. "The Prophet will have a field day if we can't get things up and running by the start of business." Granted if things continued like this the press would be the least of their concerns but the idea was still irksome.
Emily confirmed her floo network wasn't working and after trying to collect a few things from his office, he knew his wasn't either. Gavin nodded slowly. "Tried several of the entrances; nothing." Nothing but a waste of a good half the day for him while he received weird looks from muggles who'd obviously never seen a gorgeous man before. Muggles. "Is this more faulty spellwork or...?" When things started failing they'd blamed it on that but after Aron had sent in his crew he firgured this was all taken care of.

But with everything that had gone wrong at the Ministry over the past couple of months, was it really outrageous to think something hadn't been missed, or more to the point, hadn't been properly fixed? Merlin knew some people were incompetent, but surely the distractions and inattentiveness had been dealt with by the other Department Heads. She could at least vouch for herself and her own people. "The Prophet will have a field day regardless," she corrected. They were always after something, and MLE would once again be under the firing line. She was sure of it.
It seemed she wasn't the only one to try most the entrances, Gavin too. Emily gave an affirming nod of the head, "I haven't had much luck... but surely this can't just be faulty spellwork." Surely not. Otherwise wouldn't it be an easy fix? There was little she could do to get the phonebooth to respond to her, never mind everything else. "Has Cresswell said anything?" she asked, directing her question to the Senior Undersec.

Just the thought of the Prophet catching wind of this catastrophe was giving him a migraine because he was sure that there would be some serious finger pointing at him. He could almost see the headlines now.... Concealment Charms Gone Astray! Ministry Personnel Stranded or something equally, if not more, colorful. "You think their Editor-in-Chief would take a bribe not to blow the top off this fiasco?" he asked, his tone obviously a joking one.
Just trying to lighten the mood a little. Knockturn Alley was tense enough as it was.
He shook his head. "I tried all the usual procedures on the loo and phone booth, but nothing worked. Not a single reaction positive or negative to any spell." It was beyond weird and bruising his ego the more he thought about it. "There was nothing causing a magical barrier or anything from the outside..."
Were they catching his drift?
He was only moderately curious as to whether or not Cresswell had spoken to Gavin. Aron hadn't found the man to be all that helpful in the maintenance department when he had called upon him for help.

The woman had a knack for being right usually when she was agreeing with him and he could do without those nosy blokes at the Prophet bringing the Ministry under further cross fire. He almost smiled at Aron's question, leaving the faintest hint of a smirk instead. "I wouldn't trust anyone at the Prophet regardless. They'd take the money then use it to cover the cost of the print."
He watched a waiter as he approached and ordered himself a cherry liquor with soda. He wasn't in the habit of ordering for anyone but himself and waited for them to give their orders before continuing.
Gavin was still mulling over what Emily had said about it being more than faulty spellwork. That would be a stroke of dumb luck--for lack of a better explanation--if it was more than a few other spells gone wrong. How did one go about diagnosing a bloody building? His eyebrow rose as Aron went on. "No barrier?" The icing on the cake as it were. "Brilliant. We'll just blow one of the walls off." As a means of adding a bit of dry humour but they all knew it might have been something Emily considered if given no other options. Still, they needed the place in one piece and an explosion in the middle of London..........might as well hand out pamphlettes inviting Muggles to the next wizarding convention.
...Was Cresswell meant to say something? "No." Of course being incharge of Maintenance as well it made sense he should have given some kind of report on the situation but no. "He hasn't. I'm inclined to believe he's as clueless as we are."

Riddled with errors, misprints and not to mention their fact-less news pieces. It was amazing they managed to run at all. The publication was a joke. Personally bribing the staff was too kind ... but she kept those thoughts to herself and instead relayed her order of an Ogden's.
She peered between Aron and Gavin, taking in their experiences and tidbits of information. It. Was. Not. Making. Sense. Emily may have perked up at Gavin's suggestion of blowing off a wall. With precise coordination, and some fire power.. it could be done without trauma. Of course, perhaps she was the only one to think this a real option, one she was most certainly in favour of. "So it's sealed from the inside?"... she expressed her thought. And that really was just brilliant. If Security hadn't been in the spotlight before, it most probably would be now.

At least Gavin was willing to play along with the things and had he not been moderately concerned that the MLE Head would chop him down like a weed for laughing in the middle of the pub, thus drawing attention to their group, he would have laughed. Instead he snorted, cleared his throat, and then ordered himself a gillywater and salted crisps and waited for the waiter to leave their table before he spoke again.
Blow out one of the walls? Talk about the Prophet having a field day. "Just charge in wands blazing, huh?" he said with a slightly raised eyebrow. He wasn't an overly cautious person, but he was pretty sure he was being the third wheel here with this conversation.
"Seems that way," he nodded towards Emily. And that word. Clueless. That word. Aron hated it. Especially in this situation where there was literally no tangible explanation for what was going on. He couldn't even fathom how something like this was possible unless... "You don't think this could be an inside job, do you?" Holy holly had Armand been right? "One of my employees ask if there was a chance those mutants were used as a....distraction. Something to keep us all occupied while they infiltrated right under our noses."

No comments from a certain Head of Law Enforcement where the Prophet was concerned. He could understand that, what with their more recent articles being less than flattering. Aron's smirk however didn't go unnoticed. Someone that could appreciate the humour...despite it being at Emily's expense. Sometimes silent jokes were for the best where safety was concerned.
"That's the idea." He said with a solemn nod and a glance at Emily. Figured something like that would have her perking up. The only thing that gave away the fact that he was messing with her was the roll of his eyes that followed a couple seconds after.
But they were getting to the serious questions again. Gavin rested his elbows on the table and leaned closer. "A distraction?" He quieted for a moment, thinking of the probability of something like that happening. "Merlin I hope not." Otherwise he'd have to admit Emily was right for sending Simon up to his level to clutter his Lobby check the security there. "But it's not something we should dismiss, especially in the absence of any other answers." People didn't just get locked out. It wasn't one of those things that 'just happened'. His eyes trailed from Aron to Emily.
Thoughts?

Frankly, she couldn't expect them to understand, so they could have it, and she wouldn't knock their heads together, this time. No, Emily would just sit and stew in her negative thoughts toward the Prophet and fantasize about burning them to the ground. If only.
"Why the heck not?" she asked rhetorically to Aron's wands blazing comment. She was perhaps the only to be taking that idea seriously enough. Whatever was going on inside was more then welcome to meet the pointy end of her sticks, she had no qualms with that. Gavin's comment and look her way had her curious. Was that a dig at her? Or was that because he recognised it's appeal to her? ... ... where was her damn whiskey?
It was possible, despite her biology, for her eyes to widen - her brows lifting in the process. Distraction? Inside job? ... Three words she would detest until the end of time -- at least where work was involved if nothing else. "Inside job?" she echoed, "I've tightened Security... the Atrium was air tight, criminal activity checks were updated..." anybody coming in, as well as those staff that underwent review had been scanned. Never mind that Security was still understaffed, it was tightened. Tight. Merlin. She should have made time for some patrol rounds herself. She needed her board, her drawing board, she needed to start fleshing out her thoughts and ideas. If that was the case, then she'd need to establish motive and opportunity. Her fingers were itching now. Itching to start an investigation. Because this was NOT MLE's fault. Not on her watch.
"You're right," she finally responded to Gavin. He usually was. "Might help to do some scouting," someone somewhere will know something, and they were in the right place for it. Merlin knew she'd been meaning to make a trip down here sooner or later. Business reasons of course.

Surely they were both just pulling his leg, right? Just go down a manhole somewhere, walk through the sewer until they hit a wall and KABOOM?! Blow a hole to try to get back in? If the thought of all that sewage spewing onto the marble floor wasn't gross enough - a mess he did NOT want to clean up, okay? - sounding the alarm to whatever or whoever was inside that the big wands were coming was not exactly his style.
He HAD been a ninja for YATI training a few years back, remember? Stealth was more Aron's cup of tea.
His posture straightening a bit as the waiter returned with their order, he tossed the man a few coins and then returned his attention to Emily and Gavin. "Might as well since we're down in this neck of the woods," he nodded as he took a thin slip of paper from his jean jacket's pocket and dipped it into his gillywater. "You've been looking over cold cases in the Ministry, anything there that could link to all this?" he asked Emily while he waited for his litmus paper's results.

This was as good a time as any to drop it so when she asked why not, he merely took a sip of his drink and opted not to respond to that. It was directed at Aron anyhow.
He found himself nodding along as she went on. "It's true. Over zealous lot of them. I doubt anything would have gotten by. It's possibly an inside job, someone we'd never suspect." His vote was anyone working down in the Daycare. Dedicating your work to taking care of children for the entire day? There was no way in Merlin's beard you could convince him that they loved their job and did it for the 'joy of taking care of children'. Not even.
It was his turn to look between the two of them, taking another sip of his drink, trying to process whether or not they were actually suggesting they go looking for Dark Wizards to ask questions...and what was he doing with that paper?
"And just who do we plan on getting info from down here might I ask? I doubt anyone would be forth-coming, then there's the matter of finding the right source. We can't spend the day interrogating." Locked out or not, they couldn't be wasting too much time. This clearly wasn't his area of expertise. Gavin would follow their lead, he just wanted to make sure it was well thought through before they went creating a stir.
Training will take place on Friday, January 22nd beginning at 1:30 pm. Ministry employees should travel by muggle bus to get off at Aldgate bus station and then walk the remaining distance to the abandoned HMS Royal Arthur. After passing through the Regulation Office and receiving your visitors pass, proceed directly to the gymnasium where your training instructors ( Emily Browne [Hera], Aron Ashburry-Hawthorne [sweetpinkpixie], and Oliver Jenkins [Mell]) will give you further instructions.
At least one employee from each department is required to attend this special training.
OOC: this is meant to be a fun way for everyone to interact with each other while gaining some important IC skills vital to the current climate in the Ministry. While the announcement states that it is mandatory for employees to attend, think of this like classes in the School RPG. Participation is optional but we certainly hope you will choose to come and play ^_^ You also do not HAVE to post in the Regulation Office prior to the gymnasium and can just RP arriving in the gymnasium pretending your character did so.
That being said, zero representation from any department could result in IC repercussions ;)
The above date and time is purely IC. We will be starting training on Friday, February 21st around noon GMT ( 7 am on February 20th EST)

To all the overly worked, overly STRESSED individuals of the Ministry, please take NOTE of this very important, very NECESSARY relaxation activity.
Ms. Harmony Skylark has been most gracious to help us out in this troubled time.
Level Seven’s Game Room and Lounge is the perfect spot to go and unwind with your coworkers. An assortment of activities is available and some friendly competition is just the thing to foster excitement and lighten your mood. The room, however, is no longer what it used to be. The space has been transformed to suit the needs of the St. Mungo’s sponsored lesson taking place here. Don’t be alarmed; things will be back to normal just as soon as these Mental Health Evaluations are all wrapped up.
The Pottery and Paint-by-Numbers: Art for Squibs lesson is about to start and as you round the corner and enter the Game Room and Lounge, you’ll note the strange yet mildly soothing sounds of birds chirping and insects buzzing over a melodic tune. It might just be the perfect background soundtrack to a relaxing lesson if not for the volume being so loud. And other than a rather out of date looking boom box, charmed to loop the sounds of nature, the room is rather bare. Whatever have they done with you precious pool tables and pinball machine? That’s a mighty good question.
Rickety easels are set up in a semi-circle, each having a different paint-by-numbers portrait and set of oil paints for your use. Careful of the dodgy stool you’re meant to perch on, they’ve been known to be a little wobbly. You’ve got good balance though, yeah? No worries.
And if painting isn’t your thing, make your way over to a rather strange looking rectangular table covered in white cloth. Sort of looks like a billiards table, huh? On top sits everything you could need to hand-build your very own vase, bowl, or goblet. Whatever suits your fancy, yeah? The clay might be a bit hard but large containers of water and brushes are provided to make it more manageable. Not to mention that your extremely eager instructor might have a tip or two to share. The same wobbly stools are set around the makeshift workspace but be careful not to squirm too much, splinters aren’t the easiest to remove.
So come in, grab a smock, and find yourself a seat. You’re clearly not getting any real work done for a while so you might as well succumb fully to this attempt to relax and rejuvenate. At the very least you’ll have a piece of art to take home for your efforts.
OOC: Your lesson instructor is Ms. Harmony Skylark (TakemetotheBurrow). This is meant to be FUN...So, HAVE SOME!!

There is but ANOTHER activity that has popped up. Scurry along and enjoy, you distressed worker bees!
In light of all the stress, anger, itching, rambling and rage displayed by many of the employees within the Ministry you all are required to attend the second seminar on, you guessed it, KNITTING. The first thing you’ll notice as you enter the room is that all the tables and lab stations have been removed. Don’t go asking questions about them or you’ll be taken for someone with a severe case of Trelawnitis and as it stands the only needles your instructor, Ravaora Silverkin, possess are those meant for the fine art of thread and coordination.
Strewn about the floor are several cushions. Do feel free to take one and help yourself to the needles and yarn one may find by these cushions. No sticking each other with them, we’re all responsible adults here, present for the healing that can be achieved from such a cleansing and calming activity.
As this is meant for healing, no loud noises will be tolerated, lest you scare each other into a frenzy and we all die. Just try to remember, this is all for your own good.
OOC: Your lesson instructor is St. Mungo's Healer Ravaora Silverkin (Ravaora Silverkin). Now, who wants to play with the CRAY, CRAY Healer?!?!

I've enjoying these random activities that have been organized. It's all appropriately zen.
You all should travel to the Third Floor. Ms. Smith is being a gem.
The training and trial room is usually empty minus some crash pads and the large pool. Today as you enter, you’re greeted with a soft cool breeze and the sound of slow running water. Where the large pool in the corner once stood is now a sitting pond with a waterfall standing roughly three feet tall flowing into a standing pond with Lilly pads floating on top of the water and several live and well Koi fish swimming about in sync with one another.
The ground, which was once solid concrete, crash pads is now covered in soft white sand and Perennial Ryegrass and large boulder like stones. There’s a sign on small treess on either side of a narrow trail in front of you asking you to take off your shoes.
Following the trail you’re lead down into a area of sand that is charmed to re-line it’s self after you step on it and small black soft stones are set in a semi circle used as mats. Don't mind the long table set off to the left of the room, that will come into play later. Your instructor isn't anywhere to be found so pick a soft cooled rock and have a seat, or stand if you wish. Your calming lesson will begin soon.
OOC: Your lesson instructor is Ms. Athena Smith (JennMarie). This is sure to be lulzy, SO ATTEND!
ooc: We're looking for volunteers for those who want to be a part of the International Confederation of Wizards council meeting! We want to create some policies for international wizarding laws, that all ministries should abide by. Whether it be for immigration laws, trading standards, undercover buying and more. If you would like to take part, please contact Lizasaurus!
Perhaps you have some ideas in regards to some of these policies? Or ideas on policies that should be put in place, please message Liz as well! If you have a charrie who would be actively wanting to join, let her know. Maybe you have an ambassador to another country. Or perhaps work with the immigration department. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

At first glance, it may not appear too unusual. The Ludicrous Patents division gets shipments of new inventions to be tested all the time. But did anyone actually see someone drop it off? It seems that its appearance is just as mysterious as to what could be inside of it. There are no external markings.
In fact, it looks like a plain wooden box except for the unusual markings that can only be seen just when the light hits it the right way. However, there is no discernible way to open it as there is no obvious opening and Alohomora doesn't seem to work. Someone probably should do something with it though as it is somewhat in the way and is rather heavy to lift.

With the holidays in full swing, the ministry has been busy with plans for the WERPS convention occurring soon after everyone returns from the holidays. Excitement is building up both inside the ministry and out. As part of Minister Althea Scabior’s campaign platform regarding supportive measures for the environment and preventing climate change, this long awaited event is expected to address environmental concerns, educate the wizarding community, and let magical folks know just what they can do to help and get involved.
Over the previous few months leading up to this each of the department's have been busy with their assistance with the conference.
The Department of Magical Games and Sports
Although it has been a typical year of keeping professional Quidditch and Gobstones running smoothly for the Department of Magical Games and Sports, there have also been several items of note. Bodmin Moor stadium has been toying with the idea of artificial turf for their pitch. While there are many who support this idea, it is not without its opposition. Benefits and disadvantages of artificial turf are expected to be discussed at the Ministry's upcoming WERPS event. Track upgrades and renovations continue to take place for winged horse racing around the country for further promotion of this growing sport.
The Department of International Magical Cooperation
Level five has been hopping with things going on. Immigration has uncovered a few visas that have expired and have been working on finding these people to investigate. The trade relations have been extra busy with the ending of the smuggled dragon eggs and an American, Rodrick Micheals being the head of the smuggling. The team is at this moment pinpointing the location of Rodrick in London and doing their investigation to get him arrested. The trade relations have been working hard to start planning an international trade show that will be coming in the next year. Foreign relations and Charles Taylor have been working with the ministries ambassadors to set the final paperwork for the WERP conference and begin the right paperwork for the trade show.
The Department of Magical Transportation
Level Six has had a lowkey year. The level needed some love and care, and so the department head hired a team of people who claimed to be "EXPERTS" at redoing houses and whatnot; it took them six months, and when Lynley checked in on them, it turned out the level was not even CLOSE to being ready. So Lynley fired them, and hired new people. and after a VERY long time, the level is finally done. AFTER A YEAR....it is done. But that means that all the employees had to fit into one cramped room off to the side for around ELEVEN MONTHS to do their jobs. They will be happy to get their space back again! Other than that, and some in-department drama, nothing serious has gone down.
The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes
Due to a wide area of contamination, the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes had to be called in. The nature of the contamination was such that muggles had begun to experience unexplained "special abilities". The area had to be contained, witnesses had to be obliviated and given new memories while the PART team and our Spell Researchers had to search for the source of the contamination. It was discovered to be a potion spill that got into the town's water supply and has since been dealt with.
The Department of Mysteries
It has been pretty quiet in the department. Although it might just be that they won't speak of it being they are unspeakables. The newest addition to the department Airey Flamsteed, previously Hogwarts Astronomy professor and Gryffindor Head of House, appears to be fitting in well. Although he is still wearing his suits, there has not been any sign of Pebbles.
The Department of Law Enforcement
Level Two has been busy training in record numbers of YATI. Trainings are up and the amount of crime has lessened a bit in the last few months, giving the team a nice break. It's never quiet though, you can find many of those on level two either in the workout rooms or in the training area. With regard to the WERPS conference, level two has been busy getting security prepared for the conference.
The Minister's Office
Minister Scabior having made a few new placements for department head, started out her term quite busily. In preparation for the WERPS conference, level one has been making arrangements and working closely with DERP to ensure the conference is a complete success. The minister also now is requiring ALL of the Mysteries department employees to undergo "sensitivity training' in regards to complaints received in response to how children were dealt with at Hogwarts last term?
The Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection
DERP started the term with a newly appointed department head, Noah O'Donnell. He designed a beautiful zen garden and outdoor patio for employees. It has been pretty quiet in the department but there has been a nice bit of change around the ministry with the care DERP has done. Noah has jumped in with both feet, tackling the WERPS conference head on after replacing Davis-Campbell who had previously headed up both DERP and the Creatures department.
The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures
Newly appointed Department head Becca Yenorin encountered questions from employees demanding to know if she was fit to be department head for the Creatures department. She handled it well and appears to be doing a fine job in that department. New protocols are appearing little by little to help ensure the safety of both employees and the wizarding world itself. Becca has been working hard to help ensure that the safety of the community and what we can do to make our world a better place, is in hers and ours best interest.

Enjoy your wet, fake grass everyone!
Meanwhile, they were just going to be over here in their anti-WERPS shirts loudly wondering just why a conference that was supposedly about supporting the environment was touting fake grass anyway. "That artificial stuff can't be good for the environment they supposedly love. What's wrong with real grass, anyway?"

Either that or they didn't know their eggs very well when the smuggler sold them. No matter what the reason the box that had been examined may have felt a bit lighter and a small hole might have been noticed if one was looking closely, but if one was looking closely enough they may have noticed something small slither out the door as they entered.
As for the box the man had peeked in and noticed some broken eggs, he may have noticed a small spark that set the corner of the box on fire. The small dragon had escaped from his egg and was trying to find his way out, he didn't mean to step on a brother or two's eggs while he was in search of the light or his mom.

But how long do you have before the pull becomes too strong to escape? The pull has already begun to tug strongly on your limbs as is, perhaps enough to pull a joint or two out of their sockets.

January was finally holding a meeting to hopefully end the madness.

After sending an urgent note to all of the Department Heads, January went to the meeting room on her level, made sure all security and silencing charms were in place and functional and then waited patiently at the head of the table for her coworkers to arrive.

Under his arm were a few scrolls of parchment, sealed with various colors of wax, all stamped with seals from different countries – allies of the ministry that had sent in complaints or signed and dated testimonies from his ambassadors who had felt it was safer to bring their countries’ concerns to the ministry in person. Sachin had been the first, but he hadn’t been the last to bring his concerns and the concerns of his nation (India) forward. Conley set the scrolls down on the table, then moved to pulled out a chair.
”Miss Bones,” Conley said in greeting as he sat himself down. “You look lovely today,” He said in greeting. It wasn’t a suck up comment – merely a pleasant observation. Perhaps it was the pending impeachment procedures that brought out a twinkle in her eye. Conley thought that she certainly looked less stressed and definitely more determined than usual. But then, Conley had only known Ms. Bones while Nickels had been in power and Nickels was enough for anyone to want to take a permanent vacation to St. Mungos.

She almost wanted to suggest he had fixed the votes, but she didn't find the minister clever enough to be able to do that effectively.
"Good day to you both, January, Conley," she nodded at them as she took her seat, looking around them cautiously. "The man better not walk in. We need to be prepared for what we'll say if he does." The former Slytherin had quite a few stories in mind.

How could he maintain order with all that had happened since Morgan had become minister? All he could do was hope that this meeting would bring some answers and in the end an end to Morgan being in office.
Stepping into the conference room he nodded to Lynley, January and Conley. "Hello" he said in greeting and moving to a chair with his large mug of tea in hand.
After an unprecedented four-month lockdown after the impeachment of the now former Minister for Magic, Morgan P. Nickles, the Ministry of Magic is expected to resume usual operation. Nickles previously confessed to wilfully contaminating of foodstuffs with an animal transformation potion that transfigured many employees who dined at the ministry's food court into animals against their will. Among the transfigured was Mysteries Department Head Airey Flamesteed, who expressed relief in never coughing up another hairball again. “It was as excruciating as it was disgusting. I would never wish that fate upon my worst enemies.” With the cause having been unidentified for so long, the transfigured employees were quarantined until both an antidote and the cause were found.
Furry employees and coworkers were not the only concern to be brought forward in the wake of Nickles’ appointment. There were reports of plants attacking indiscriminately Ministry-wide shortly after he took temporary charge of the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection (DERP). In late November, with evidence gathered and presented by Senior Undersecretary January Bones and the remaining department head team, Nickels confessed to tainting the food with aspirations of turning the Ministry into his own private zoo. His reasoning being that it “simply seemed like a fun idea.” Under the guidance of Bones, Nickles' impeachment process began and he was immediately taken into custody by the Department of Magical Law Enforcement (DMLE). The Ministry closed soon after for a full investigation, renovations, and decontamination. "After gathering enough evidence, we took a unanimous step forward to rid the Ministry of Mr. Nickels," Bones recalls. "We, the department heads and including our future Minister for Magic, have our employees as our number one priority. Moving forward, we are full of hope and optimism for a bright future in the Ministry."
Nickles held the office Minister for Magic since January of 2094.
With Nickles to stand trial for his crimes, the Ministry is ready to move forward under the leadership of newly appointed Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry.
Hogwarts alumni, Hollingberry brings with him over 50 years of experience working in wizarding politics with 30 of those serving as the department head for the Department of International Magical Cooperation for the Japanese Ministry of Magic. Hollingberry also served as the campaign manager for Puddlemere United chaser Carter Phillips during his successful bid for a position on the Hogwarts Board of Governors in 2080. “My vision for wizarding Britain is for a wizarding community that is strong in our values and our freedoms, strong in our family and community life, and strong in our sense of wizardinghood,” Hollingberry shared soon after his appointment. “Gone are the days of juvenile tyranny under P. Nickles. I look forward to keeping the Ministry on the trajectory January and the other department heads began and building upon it for the future of our wizarding world. Speaking of which, I do have five beautiful PERFECT peaches for grandchildren.”
In commemoration of the grand reopening, the Minister and the department heads will be hosting a cocktail hour on March 31, prior to the opening on April 1.
Who: All new and returning Ministry employees When: Sunday, March 31, 2097 @ 4 pm Where:Ministry Food Court Why: to hold an informal Ministry-wide meet and greet with the newly elected Minister for Magic and receive important updates on the Ministry of Magic itself
We look forward to seeing you there!

Some important maintenance going on in the Thought Chamber of the Department of Mysteries...but the Encephalons seem to have minds of their own:shifty:

The encephalons were on the move and if one did not know any better would almost assume that they were excited to have so many visitors at once. Should any one of the persons venture too close to the tank (as the department head had just now) a very vivid thought would appear inside their mind: let us out so we can shine.

They could not see, only sense the thoughts of those in the room. Particularly of those who came closer to their tank. Their home and their prison.
One known as Sylvian took interest in the thoughts of one of the human presences [Nordic Witch] in the room and its stems almost seemed to reach out in her direction.
Before her words and full left her mouth, while they were still thoughts lingering in her mind and on their way out, it 'spoke' to her.
I am eager to get to know you....

Intriguing. Alluring. Delicious.
The presence of the humans in the chamber certainly had a very captive audience. Another of the collective, this one known as Reil, had taken a particular interest in the presence of the human touching the tank [Krel Ansell] and its tendrils reached forward and stroked the glass opposite of their hand. Flashes of something vivid illuminated certain regions of its form. Yes, it likes this human very much....enough that it whacked one of its tendrils over the top of another known as Galen to glide away.
And glide it did, its thoughts instead reaching out towards another [Silver Tiger] instead. No...don't stun too much...would be best to not stun at all....
Completing one last barrel roll, Templeton reached out and began to examine her [Fearlessleader19]. ....you can try and see what happens...it encouraged, planting the thought in her mind. They would all prefer that spell be cast at them over the Stunning Spell.
And then they could all sense another human presence [Roselyn], though their thoughts were too distant....too faded as of right now. But soon...once the department head unlatched the lid...

The thoughts of the woman [Nordic Witch] sent the endorphins buzzing through Sylvian. An impression had been made, one that Sylvian was eager to deepen very soon.
As soon as the lid was -- yeeeeeeeeeeees.
The solution sloshed around as a thick lime green mist billowed forth and fell over the sides, swirled over the floor, and filled the air with a musty, pungent odor. Sensing the exposure and reading the thoughts of the department head [sweetpinkpixie] who had freed them, their tendrils reached upwards, a few coiling over the rim of the tank to pull themselves up out of the liquid.
And then, just as their frontal lobes were exposed to the air in the chamber, they LAUNCHED themselves out from their previous confinements and into the air in overwhelming numbers as though previously orchestrated.
What comes up, must come down...and suddenly it was raining brains.
Hallelujah?

THEY'RE BREAKING FREEEEEEE!
They had anticipated the spells, thoughts so vivid in the minds of the humans present that it made it all too easy for each to reach out with their slick tendrils towards these boisterous convictions. Ignoring the man who had released them for now [sweetpinkpixie], a few were struck down by the spells and almost seemed to twitch on the ground where they lay and landed on the floor of the chamber with a moist squish not too unlike a wet sponge being thrown against a wall. But this too had been anticipated.
It was Reil who was able to strike first, its long tendrils coiling around the neck and head of the human [Krel Ansell] with colorful thoughts it had been admiring from within the tank. Sliding its slimy form up the side of his face, Reil managed to position itself atop the man's head and then got to work secreting from all its crevices to lay down a thick coat so the transfer could begin.
Another by the name of Ponce was next to make contact, its attention shifting from one human to another as its moist mass slammed against the floor and bounced a few times. Their tendrils reached out and coiled around the shoes of another human [Roselyn] and began pulling itself up her body while leaving a slimy trail in its wake. Must get to the top...must get to the top...hold still for I do now wish to harm you...
Templeton remained on course, it's thick tendrils reaching out for the shoulders of the human it had made its connection to [Fearlessleader19] and coiling around and under them to pull itself towards her face and SLAMMING into it with an oozy SQUISH. Secretions already beginning to take place, Templeton joined Reil in preparation.
The one known by the others as Galen fell short of its target [SilverTiger] and upon coming to a rolling stop had found itself next to the shoe of another [Dokimoto]. This would do. Soon its shorter than average, stumpy really, tendril had latched on to the human but knew it could not hoist itself up. Rather it would need to rely on another trick. Reaching out with its thoughts, Galen began planting images in the human's head - not an encephalon at their feet, but a smart looking hat that it simply HAD to wear. Yes, pick me up....wear me...you know you want to...
Sylvian was by far the most graceful in the air and in their execution compared to the others, making quick work of coiling it's tendrils around the neck of its select human [Nordic Witch] and hoisting itself atop her head. Now to begin the secretion and transfer...
Several smaller encephalons flung themselves from the tank and propelled themselves towards another human [Charely Potter]. It would be a proper encephanlon pile on top of him by the end of things, squishy and wet. Save for the one that the man's Stunning Spell had shot away.

One of the best things on working in the lower levels was the prime location on the food.
As Val approached the Food Court, he began to realize just how famished he was. The aroma of the food today was quite strong, quickening his pace. He wasn't a Foodie by nature but today seemed to suggest otherwise.. and then he arrived. Val collected a plate and took a moment to gaze intensely on the selection. Kidney pie, Bangers and mash, Fish and chips, Toad in the hole.. such heavy foods. Ordinarily the French man would choose otherwise but today... today... The sight seemed to have been lost on him for a brief moment before an inner voice spoke to him.
He had to have it.
NOW..
Val's eyes seem to have lost its usual intense look, glazing over as if mesmerised. He looked down at his plate. There's no way all of that can fit on the plate. He dropped it letting it smash on the floor. He was far too famished to waste time putting it on the plate as he climbed over the bar onto the trays of food. Ignoring how messy his clothes were getting, he took a sausage and bit into it.
Mmmm.... Merlin was good.
He didn't even finish the rest before he scooped up some mashed potatoes and stuffed it into his mouth next. Mmmm.. He wanted more. Using his other hand he scooped some more mashed potatoes and proceeded to mash his hands onto his face surrounding the mouth as if forcing his cheeks to vacuum up the potatoey goodness.
This was wonderful.

She did though loose track of time and had forgotten to eat her regular fruit snack when she had been interpreting prophecies and creating the orbs for them in the hall of prophecies, but she usually didn’t get this famished...It was weird.
As she came into the buffet she spotted Val ontop of the bar, smashing his face with all types of food not caring that he acted like a 2 year old. Laurel opened her mouth to point this out to him but her eyes glazed over and when she chirped out eagerly it was in a totally different tone that first intended. "Is the mashy potatoes as gooeily delicious as they look Val? And the sausage and the kidney pie too?" Coming to a stop by the largest sallad bowl and looked down at all the vegetables, feeling her mouth water. Withouth another thought she stuck her head into the sallad bowl with her mouth open wide to eat as much as feel the vegetables on her skin and tongue…….

The sense of touch HAD to be her favourite.
Or maybe it was the sense of taste.
“Touch,’’ Megan muttered to herself. Both of her hands were slowly gliding over everything that came in her way: walls, furniture, even one or two persons on their hands and faces. This was her behaviour for the past few weeks. Needless to say, she had received weird and shocked looks. She had meticulously researched on the human senses using as many scientific books that she could find. It was particularly interesting and intricating, the way the human body was designed. It certain made for the most promising and best host.
At least, this woman’s body was the perfect host.
“Smell,’’ said another voice in her head. Megan sniffed and sniffed. The Buffet area... SUCH DELICIOUSNESS lived here! “Move over!’’ Without so much of a please, she attempted to elbow the other two away who were stuffing their faces.
There was chicken, sausages, salad, pies... oh, where to begin?
How about EVERYWHERE? The blond scooped all the things in reach in her hands and began to cram it all into her mouth.

The feeling of moving around in the lift, the vibrations, the upward motion without moving... Crazy! There was something crushing that feeling though. There was a smell. Well, it felt like there were thousands of smells, but this particular smelly smell was all Sam could focus on. She followed it here. This floor was definitely different than the one she was used to. For one thing, it was brighter. But why? Were these ones unable to see normally? Did they also lack a sense of smell? Because how were they not curious to know what this scent was?! Finally arriving at the fitness room, Sam opened the door and the scent she had been following rushed out of the room. Sam blinked rapidly, looking around the room for whatever was causing the aroma but was wildly confused to see a room of... stuff?
Confused, Sam entered the room and began sniffing each piece of equipment. Traces everywhere! After a couple more sniffs, it was decided that this was definitely an odor not a smell. Blech. Blech indeed. It was obvious this was going nowhere though, as all of the things in this room had traces of the odor. Upon closer inspection, Sam could see a diagram on the machine she was in front of, and it looked easy enough to figure out! She looked at her own ligaments and, after carefully studying the printed photo, mimicked the pose. So there she sat... Now what?

Adam walked past the door to Airey's office without his support cane and without his big-oversized purple sunglasses hiding his blue-glowing eyes. Then, just as quickly as he walked past, he walked backwards past Airey's office. Then he walked past again, touching the door and the door frame and the door handle and the wall and the door glass.
Touch was interesting. Everything felt different and everything felt intersting! His fingers traced words on the door plaque and the door swung open a bit.
Adam poked his head in and then slowly his body followed. He stood for a moment mouth open as he just looked.
Oooo...what was this place? It was bright. Bright but without color...
Or was it?
Where to start? What to try? What to Touch!? Hands out, Adam started stumbling around the room like a toddler on a mission.
Touch.
Shuffle.
Poke.
Prod.
Wiggle.
Jiggle.
A picture (or two) went crooked.
He stopped in front of an odd boxy things with compartments full of things that looked interesting (tie display). A hand reached out and fingers started fondling things. He pulled one out and started rubbing it on his face.
Oooo it felt nice on this tip of his nose.

Airey had been increasingly unsettled since the events in the Thought Chamber had transpired. Namely in that several of the Encephalons, six to be precise, were beyond docile. They were practically lifeless and he was not sure entirely who to call to consult on the subject. Ministry and Mungo's healers? Someone from Creatures?
Mulling things over in his head, the astronomer returned to his office with every intent of blowing off a bit of steam by playing Captain of the USS Enterprise for a bit...when he saw that his door was already ajar.
Um....pardon? But he had most certainly NOT left things like that.
Quickening his pace, Airey LEAPED into the doorway of his office with his wand drawn and ready. Only instead of some impostor...there was Adam of all people.
"Adam, you know you are not authorized to enter my office without my consent...but since you're here...what brings you b---" the department head greeted as he began to pocket his wand, only to see that the Unspeakable was touching, fondling, his TIES. Ties that were pressed and in a very VERY distinct order and NOT TO BE TOUCHED. "Gerulf. Stop what you are doing at once!" he barked, his tone and demeanor changing in an instant.

Adam registered yelling as he paused, soft-silky thing touching the tip of his nose. Holding the silky-soft thing to his nose, his head turned, slowly towards the direction of the sound. Ah, their was a person making that nose. He wondered if he could make those noises too! "Stoppen Sie, was Sie sofort tun!!" he yelled back. Only, that didn't sound right. Or did it?
He was done with the silky-soft thing anyways. After all there were more things to touch and feel and experience anyway. He jammed the soft-silky thing back (in a big ol' ball by the way) into it's holder thingie and walked away as one end slipped out and dangled out of its cubbie spot.
What to do next? he wondered as he shuffled around. He ran his fingers along a painting, feeling the brush textures. Ooooo
And then he noticed the floating things around the room! Something zoomed overhead and he jumped (well, kinda) trying to catch it. Only he ended up falling over with a thump.
"Owieeeee!!" he wailed, then rolled onto his knees and found himself face-to-face with something that was staring back at him in - well, he didn't know what they were in.
Whatever it was sure looked tasty. He reached for it, then sat back on his bum and promptly stuck the hard, cold, and flavorless pet rock into his mouth.

NO.
NOPE.
Airey's skin actually felt like it was going to crawl right off his bones when he saw the state that his employee SHOVED one of his more sophisticated looking Brooks Brothers designed ties into its case. SHOVED. DANGLING OUT. WHAT IN THE NAME OF ORION'S BELT WAS ADAM DOING?! Purposefully trying to agitate the department head? And here he had been telling Maddox all along how he needed to give the bloke a promotion or at least a pay raise for everything he had done for the department!
Nope. That was out the window the moment the tie happened. No one disrespected fine silk like that.
And then he had absolutely no idea what Adam was saying, but it did not matter as his employee was now scampering around the room much like he had seen the family felines do when Medea had them chasing after the light cast on the ground by laser pens and the like.
Airey was not irrational, only he entirely was, and it was apparent that Adam was not in his right mind. Though this patience and assessment was already teetering out the metaphorical window with the tie incident...and then feel to the ground and smashed into a billion pieces when, of all things, Pebbles was being put into the man's mouth.
"SWEET SOLSTICE."
Nope. NOPE. Adam was fired. Done. FIRED.
"Put Pebbles down this instant!" Honestly, he was tempted to summon the pet rock to his person. If it happened to knock a few of Adam's teeth out in the process then, well, natural selection and such. Plus though could be grown back with the proper potions. Wand at the ready, he hesitated with what to do first. Part of him wanted to conjure a cage so Adam would cease being a harm to the department head's things...and then of course to himself.
Actually. Yes. That DID seem to be the best course of action.
Flourishing his wand, the astronomer first sent a Summoning Charm at his beloved pet. Upon WOOSHING her back to him, and tucking her safely beneath his arm while whispering about giving her a bath later, his wand was then pointed towards his Unspeaking with one FINAL warning before he went to drastic measures.
"Adam. Sit."

He plucked the hard flavorless, slightly less cold and now goopy pet rock out his mouth and clutched it to his bosom. ” Nein!“ he stated flatly with a very serious and pouty look on his face.
Then, sensing danger, he pushed the rock back into his mouth, grabbed the other rock and scrambled to his feet. If he could get to the other side of the room, the thing in his mouth would be his! Clearly it had some sort of importance and by golly Reil was bound and determined to find out what it was!
Adam leapt over the sofa and the ducked back around behind the desk, goobery pet rock ear dripping slobber down the German’s chin (and other places) as it flopped around from his movements.

This was WORSE than trying to get Aries to simmer down...or Atlas to stop shoving peas up his twin's nose.
No one could blame him for what was about to be done. No one. The Unspeakable TRULY had left him with no other options. Ropes and chains are not good enough, likely to wiggle free or the department head might (purely unintentional due to frustrations and desperation) strangle the bloke.
Flourishing his wand, Airey timed his next casting to perfection...and conjured a steel cage around Adam. THAT would do it.

That – and well, Reil didn’t really know English either. In fact, the host consciousness in Adam’s headspace didn’t really know any language(s).
Adam ran back and forth behind the desk, looking an awful lot like a toy duck in a shooting range at a carnival, as he tried to figure out how to get past the odd loud, hopping man.
End of the desk – Bing!
End of the desk – Bong!
End of the desk – Ding!
And so on…
All the while the pet rock was still clutched between his lips. The fabric ear flopping like the tongue of a large wet, slobbery Saint Bernard.
Adam had turned for probably the fifth time when –
Smack!
He ran face first into something hard. Under the smacking noise, was a crunch as Adam’s nose broke.
A sensation he had not yet experienced - exploded from his face, and the pet rock in his mouth went flying.
For a moment there was silence and then a piercing wail filled the room.
” Waah!!!!!”
Somethings were running down his face – only he didn’t know what it was.
Yes, bleeding and crying were a new experience – an experience he didn’t like.

His cage had been effective, as predicted, but apparently it was a bit too effected, not as predicted. And he STILL could not get Pebbles back from Adam's mouth and now on top of saliva there were OTHER BODILY FLUIDS coating her beautiful rocky surface. Hadn't he left this sort of situation behind when he had bid Hogwarts goodbye? On second thought, given the nature of the department he was now heading up, perhaps not.
"You left me no choice," he reminded the Unspeakable. Wasted words considering reason meant nothing to the usually rather diligent man. Maybe there WAS something awry with the food in the food court? He had not received any updates regarding that investigation yet so he could not be sure...but SOMETHING was clearly out of sorts with Adam. "And if you would SIT and remain STILL I could easily mend your nose."
But as it were, Airey Flamsteed was rather DONE with this situation and prepared to hand Adam over to Law Enforcement for er, breaking and entering his office as well as petty theft. Yes. Yes. All entirely and completely valid.
Thus it was, with a flourish of his wand, Airey sent a roadrunner patronus off to level two - and he would ensure that the Entry Chamber cooperated and granted them access to his office.

He and the rest were granted access from the temperamental entrance way of the Department of Mysteries allowing him to head straight towards the department heads office where the drama appeared to take place. One could only wonder just what had transpired beside what had been briefly stated in the patronus message.
"You rang..." he stated as he entered the office wand in hand, ready to take control of the matter. His blue eyed gaze taking in the apparent situation. The cage certainly was an interesting addition to the scene, though the man inside was an employee at last he remembered.

Wand out and alert, Benzi was perfectly content to let Simon walk into the department head's office first, as he opted to check around them for anyone disillusioned or otherwise hidden. A series of well practiced incantations later, and he was confident nothing would jump out at them just yet.
Always a good thing, all in all.

Upon second glance, Ronan realized something. "This man's possessed, like the people down at the food court the other day." Which meant that there were probably more affected people around the Ministry. Actually, it reminded him of this one story his mum had told him about the time the food court had been dosed with something that turned everyone that ingested it into wood eating zombies...

Ah. Punctual. Just how Airey preferred his authority to be.
He would have welcomed them all into his office with tea, but now was no time for pleasantries. And the manner in which his tie was haphazardly hanging out of its case was making his eye twitch. And it needed to be cleaned and pressed again. His entire office would need disinfecting, honestly.
"Bennett, Cambridge, Rider, Carter," he instead greeted gruffly while shooting a look at Adam - IF THAT WAS REALLY HIM - in the cage. Who was wailing and causing all sorts of insufferable sounds that were making it difficult to speak in a civil tone...so the department head shot off a well placed Silenco in the man's direction to rectify that. His patience had been tested, you see. "Adam Gerulf. An Unspeakable here in the Department of Mysteries. Or at least he has the physical appearance of said Unspeakable as this behavior is completely outlandish and not standard." He smoothed his own tie down against his chest and fixed the buttons on his suit as his tone began to calm somewhat. "Found him in my office completely ransacking it. Perhaps searching for something specific and then he attempted to consume Pebbles, refused to return her, and began gallivanting around the office clearly a danger to himself and those around him." Was the cage necessary. Yes. "I believe he broke his nose ramming into his confinements, so he will need treated for that."
He paused to look at his employee, brow knitted with confusion and frustration. Though all would be fine. He would give Pebbles her favorite bubble bath once they got home.
His forget-me-not-blues quickly shifted towards the young YATI. "The incident that caused the food court to shut down, correct?" Yes, they had all been debriefed on that.

Food courts and possession did not sit well with the security man. They’d already dealt with the antics of the deranged former Minister AND the case of the plants many moons ago that he remembered. Never fun dealing with a sick friend and potential girlfriend. Simon winced as the wailing resumed, grateful for the spell placed by Flamsteed to silence. Much easier to listening to the witness report and think on the matter at hand when you could actually hear yourself think.
Usin his wand already out, Simon moved closer to the man in the cage and ran a scan or two over the captive, Adam, checking for disillusionment spells and anything altering his appearance. Nothing came from his results. “No spells appearing,” he informed the group. “Need to be checked out for toxins.” Or possessions. And healing all injuries of course.

Who keeps ties in their office? Especially nice ones. Unless he was living out of it...?) and the aforementioned Pebbles laying on the floor. All that, plus to fact that the man had just admitted that the caged man was, in fact, an Unspeakable had Ronan raising a brow. Something about the whole situation wasn't sitting right with him.
Ah, so not possessed then. Then it truly did have to be something that people had been in contact with. This gave the young Auror-in-training an idea. "You said Mr. Gerulf here is one of your Unspeakables, correct? Has he been in contact with anything.....unusual recently? Something he wasn't used to working with? Strange brains, a rogue heavenly body..." Basically, anything that could've caused such an effect on someone. As for how he knew about some of the stuff housed here? He had simply paid attention in history class.

Funny enough, Adam had been subject to both a strange heavenly body and rouge brains in the past 3 years. The former had wrecked his eyesight and almost eaten him. The latter? Well, only time would tell what would happen.
But thanks to the Silenco charm, Adam couldn't tell them that. Well, He probably wouldn't have been able to tell them that anyways. He was still wailing, even if the sound didn't make sound.
He also didn't understand why he wasn't able to move and why he was still leaking from the face.

For as insufferable as Carter was, at least he knew how to ask questions. She didn't know how his YATI training was going, didn't care either but at least it was getting somewhere.
"Found a woman frolicking through the flowers in the greenhouses a few days ago. In light of what Carter said, this is seeming less and less like a fluke or some overzealous crook in the making." She'd thought the woman strange but....everything in the Ministry was strange.....
"Haven't been secretly running some experiment you just haven't told us about, have you Airey?" She got the whole secrecy and and unspeakable thing but if there was something he needed to say, now would've been a brilliant time.
The entire Department may have needed to be alerted and that useless sweep McCullough wanted may very well need to be a thing.

Honestly, the YATI's question made Airey want to laugh and perhaps if circumstances were a bit different he would have. "Gerulf is always managing to land himself in sticky situations here in the department. Black hole that nearly swallowed up the Space Chamber really gave him a good beating as well." Along with a plethora of other incidents, so it was entirely possible that he had gotten himself into some sort of mess. "But recently?" Which to the astronomer was within the passing week. "Not that I can recall. Unless the findings of his research on the solution that houses the Encephalons resulted in something. They have been researching and experimenting with that for the past month. Though I hardly believe that he nor Baines from Accidents and Catastrophes would be daft enough to consume that."
Though...then again...looking at the state of the Unspeaking perhaps they had? That solution was not meant for human consumption, only Encephalon preservation.
Honestly. Miss Cambridge. What sort of bloke did you take him for?
Unwilling to even entertain her question regarding experimentation, his focus instead shifted on her comment about a woman....frolicking? Well, that brought up some suppressed memories from his days of being a professor at Hogwarts. Ones that involved ice cream and dementors. "Do you recall who that was?" he inquired. Her prefacing her question about experimentation with mention of this woman made him wonder if it had been another Unspeakable.
Which, well. They were all bound to crack at some point given the sensitive nature and exclusive research performed here. It was stressful on the mind.

Not only had said response come off as slightly flippant, but there were several concerning things it revealed, not the least being that apparently trouble was seemingly a constant with Mr. Gerulf. But, something else was hit on that was more important in the moment. "Encephalons...those are the brains with tentacles, correct? The ones that attacked Ronald Weasley way back in 1995-96? Made him act sort of goofy?" See where he was going with this? "Why were Mr. Gerulf and Baines doing research on the Encephalon solution? Did anything unusual happen during the fetching of said solution? Did the encephalons attack anyone?" Had they found the cause of all this mess?

So maybe Carter was actually proving himself helpful in this situation. “Correct,” Simon said, answering Ronan’s first question about the Encephalons. "That's them." So sue him if he made a point to know about what all he was looking after, even within the secret depths of Level 9. It helped garnering the trust of various department heads who understood him knowing things could only help in times of trouble, not harm. The rest was up to Airey to answer as the security man had no clue what they were doing with the….brain solution.
He instead was using his wand still out to stem the bleeding from the captive man. No need to have him bleed out in the process of them trying to find out what was wrong and working out a way to help. He currently didn’t have anything else to add to the line of questioning, but you could bet he was listening to attempt to gather everything into something workable.

The YATI's questions were easy ones to answer and the department head had no problem offering up the information. It was not particularly sensitive material. "Because I asked them too," he nodded. That was the short answer in any case. "It had been observed that the condition of the Encephalons was not optimum and that there was a certain deficiency in the solution housing them. They were tasked to isolate these deficiencies and modify the solution's recipe accordingly to rectify the situation." Airey merely nodded his head as Simon confirmed that they were, in fact, the same Encephalons Ronan referred to. Which begged to question the longevity of them, but that was another inquiry for another day. "They did behave particularly aggressive the day we went in to perform maintenance...."
And then the astronut's eyes widened and snapped back towards Adam as he flourished his wand to remove the Silencing Charm he had previously cast upon the Unspeakable.
What's this?

Well, Kinda.
“Wah….ha..ha…..” he bleated weakly. He rubbed his nose and face with a sleeve spreading blood and boogies around as he tried to catch his breath.
And then realizing that noises were back, Adam’s wailing took off again.
”WAHHAAHAHAHA!!”.
It only took a moment though for him to realize he was no longer leaking. So with a loud SNIFFF the man took a deep breath. Only the sniff set off the overbearing unacceptable debilitating sensation emanating from his face.
But there was something else...something else that was making the Brain inside of the German man uncomfortable. It felt like his fellow brain companions were calling him home.
”Ree...reeeillll ich mag das nicht!” Adam sobbed in German. ”Ich möchte nach Hause gehen. Dieser Gastgeber ist kaputt. Ich vermisse meine Ranken.“
OOC Translation: I don‘t like this. I want to go home. This host is broken. I miss my tendrils.

Whatever it was, it was now making more sense with these explanations pouring in.
”So then.....not a national threat or some dark wizard evil plot that requires a whole take down..” Forgive her for sounding as disappointed as she did but she’d run all the way down here on the promise of an intruder and some sort of plot to steal and make use of sensitive information. This was starting to sound more like Airey had lost control of his pets (which was starting to make sense that he was only ever good with Pebbles). Man needed to stick to the inanimate.
Lex looked from the department head to the caged bleeder. This was an in house matter.
“No idea what he said but if that’s the case, how many do you have missing and who was in charge of watching them then alerting you if any went missing?” Because....this was a big deal, sorta. Whoever was in charge of them SHOULD have known and given a report. “Unless they watch themselves.” Which was another issue she wouldn’t bother getting into. “Reckon we just need to figure how many have gone awol and you get them back to their tanks.”

That is, until Adam began rambling off in German again. If only his days as an astronaut candidate had mandated that he learn that instead of Russian.
"....do any of you speak German enough to know what he just said?" he inquired at the law enforcement gathered in his office. Because he was utterly clueless and it was only elevating his frustration levels.
He was quick to pick up on Miss Cambridge's disappointment, he knew his former pupil well enough. Perhaps that had been a bit of an influence into how he had approached the delivery of his patronus. Who knew. Ahem. "None are missing," he clarified. "Every Encephalon is in the tank and accounted for." And then he paused, those dots that had been connecting earlier now needing to be analyzed in his head before a verbal display. "There were eight of us that day performing maintenance. Myself, five Unspeakables, and Miss Baines." Naturally, Adam had been one of those as they had already discussed. "...six of the Encephalons have since become completely docile. In fact, inanimate would be the more accurate of terminology. Still alive and still functioning, but merely adrift in the tank. Nousists had attributed this to the solution needing modifications and that they would return to normal once that process had been complete..."

Simon meerly shook his head at the question on language, it never was his forte in what he'd learned over the years.
But there was something else that he might be a personal expert in.
"Could they have become docile for any other reasons?" he asked, despite what the supposed experts said. "Could they have reacted to any interaction with the eight of you...becoming calm as Adam here becomes...less than calm?" He knew where his train of thought was going and he had to keep from groaning. Cued to the second, the main event began on the final word from the Minister for Magic. As glasses (and fists! we see you little one) rose in the air, the sky sounded with a loud bang and the firework display sprang into action. The first image to burst into the sky was the Ministry logo before that burst and sparked into a line of logos, one for each department to signify the cohesive unit that Minister Hollingberry had mentioned in his speech.
Baskets of handheld sparklers appeared around the area for attendees to collect and join in themselves. In a beautiful display, the fireworks went through a variety of colour palettes in a ten minute firework show, segueing seamlessly into one another in the sky and also through the crowd there. In what seemed like a grand finale, firework broomsticks and players danced over the heads of those in attendance, before shooting upwards into the sky and raining down in bright red sparks. This was the year of the Quidditch World Cup!
The red sparks did not make it to the floor as with a whoosh they drew back and exploded into one another over and over until they resembled the face of a dragon. Much like the quidditch players, the dragon circled the crowd gathered and blew out orange sparks that lit the sparklers people were holding before honing in on the area that January Bones, the Senior Undersecretary, was in.

It breathed out fire as it circled the Senior Undersecretary, hot and explicitly wanting to isolate her.
Those that were alert had recognised instantly that something was amiss in the sky when the dragon had appeared, but the flames would sure enough draw their attention to the threat at their happy and joyous celebration.
The quick thinking of the aurors worked in their favour as the real flames distorted against their shields into harmless sparks surrounding them. But this was not over yet. The dragon twisted in on itself and within seconds had separated into five separate ones. Two of them drew back, breathing fire into an x in the sky just above January. X marks the spot, it would seem. The three left sped towards the shields in an attempt to break them but the force of them rendered the fireworks useless and they shattered into sparks that fell to the floor.
With a loud roar, the two dragons left flew high into the sky and exploded in a flash of bright blood red before the sky was still and eerily silent.

It was why Misra found himself singing a classic Bollywood song. The Indian team had arrived only sometime ago but portkey, met with the British Wizarding Prime Minister in addition to the Games & Sports and Magical Co-operation Heads.
That deep voice of his rose a little and the Captain did not care who found it disturbing or put of off his Hindi. Tossing up and down was a key attached to a bright pink ribbon. It was the key to his room you see. Misra wanted nothing more than a steaming cup of chai and a snuggly bed.
Translation: "There is no one in between, only both of us are here. Tell me, then why is there distance between us?''
The wizarding world’s single greatest sporting event, the 2098 Quidditch World Cup, is already proving to be dramatic and unpredictable as the Round of 16 reaches its conclusion.
Ireland, predicted to perform well in the tournament, saw its Cup dreams come crashing down upon suffering loses to both Portugal and Jamaica while clenching victory against Madagascar. “Every paddy is sociable 'til a cow invades his garden,” Ireland’s coach, Dermot O’Casey, shrugged off when questioned what happened. “‘Twas simply not our year. Best of luck to the teams remaining in the tournament.”
In another surprising upset, China saw itself eliminated from the tournament with a 0-3 result in Group B. Sun Xiulan, chaser and captain for the Chinese side, felt a deep regret in disappointing fans and country. Particularly in light of being favored to claim the title for the second World Cup in a row. “Maybe we were a bit too confident going in to our matches or maybe we felt the pressure too much to perform. Both are just excuses for our lack of focus,” she told reporters at a press conference following the Côte D'Ivoire match. “I expected us to give England a better run for their galleon.”
Indeed Group B appears to have housed the two teams to watch this tournament. With a total of 890 points and 850 points respectively, India and England have soared to new heights early on in the tournament. With England such high scoring victories such as their 200- 90 victory of China and 350 - 70 over Côte D'Ivoire, Magical Games and Sports analysis are confident in predicting that they will go all the way. Others warn against ruling out India who defeated England in a nail biting 320 - 300 victory. “India’s chasers have unprecedented speed and stamina on their side” recalls Wilguens Geffrard, the Quidditch official who oversaw the match. “England was playing catch up for the later half of the match. But the English teamwork is awe-inspiring and a true pleasure to officiate over.”
16 teams began (Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Côte D'Ivoire, Egypt, England, Fiji, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Madagascar, Mexico, Portugal, Spain & Syria) and now this number has dwindled down to half that as the tournament progresses on to the Final Stage of the competition.
It’s a tournament where legends are born, hearts are broken, and, when all is said and done, a team is crowned the World Cup champion: the pinnacle of the wizarding world’s most popular sport.
England’s fate in the tournament now rests upon their performance against Group A’s top seed, Portugal.

The last he remembered, he was collecting discarded aluminum cans from the ground to be recycled and when he picked up a particularly unusual looking one, he felt a strange jolt, like he was being pulled by some invisible force through time and space. Something like in one of those newfangled science fiction programmes. He even lost his cane in the process!
And now, somehow Archie was on the ground and in a completely unfamiliar place. Tents as far as the eye could see, so some sort of campground? Slowly, the old man tried to get his bearings and struggled to get to his feet. He turned towards the sound of a young woman offering her baked goods. That might not be half bad. "I could do with a muffin. Bran, preferably." And he really needed his cane.

Ava had been working for weeks and made her had to send Basil to Edinburgh so her brother and his family could watch her black Labrador. Merlin, she missed her fur baby and couldn't wait to reunite with him. Hopefully Dima and his family would treat him well.
Most times like today, the YATI was assigned to be around the stand arena. She was about to start her shift after taking her daily medication and saw her fellow YATI (a year below her) looking so uptight and didn't spark any joy unlike the other people around here. "Not a fan of this assignment, I assume." She said, trying to ease the situation.
Not too far from where she's standing, Ava saw a familiar old face, literally and figuratively.
"Professor Newton!" She greeted the old man. Even though he's no longer the professor but he's always been for her. That guy was her former potion master and also her head of house when she was still a spunky teenage Gryffindor girl. "It's Ava Burton, sir. I was your student, a Gryffindor." Just in case the old man had forgotten since it's been a long time she saw him. Probably on the last day of her fifth year or so, she didn't recall.
While having a conversation with her former professor, her brown eyes couldn't help but noticed the man who just landed with portkey. His face showed a confusion when he realized where he was. Ava nonchalantly kept looking at him because he seemed like he did not belong in here. Oh, Merlin. "Hey, Carter." She spoke in low voice-almost whispering to her fellow YATI. "Keep an eye on him." She suspected he was a lost muggle who accidentally touched something that was a portkey and brought back here.
Probably she should report this to her supervisor.

Oh! "Hello sir! I.. one moment please!" Bran, she hadn't made many things with bran, but she did have healthy muffins inside that she'd baked for her own dinner later. Zara quickly excused herself, skipped inside her tent and came out with a selection of savoury muffins as well as one of her kitchen chairs. "Lots of protein in these, sir! Could I get you anything else? Some butterbeer perhaps? Water?" she asked as she set the chair down on the grass and gestured for him to sit, should be want to. He did seem pretty tired.
It never once occured to the muggleborn that a muggle himself had managed to arrive at the Quidditch camp.

The temperature drops as you approach the front gates of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The castle that can usually be seen off in the distance is entirely obscured by the thick mist that has settled. Just a glance makes it difficult to see where the mist ends and the sky begins. It is as if the entire castle is engulfed.
An eerie silence hangs about. No birds fly overhead and there are no creatures big or small scurrying in the vicinity. The occasional rustle of unseen leaves are all that occasionally step in to break the silence.
There is an ominous feel as you get closer, a dread you cannot explain but it weighs heavy on you the closer you get. Just nerves? A justifiable fear?
The mist almost seems to watch you as you approach. As if it is its own living being and the feeling is enough to send chills up your spine. What lies ahead?
Seemingly random magical deadzone in the ministry, right under all the aurors' noses. Very strange, very strange indeed :shifty:

This time when they flicker they go off entirely leaving everyone in the dimly lit room. Lighting wands will prove ineffective, as will trying to get the door open now that it’s slipped shut. It’s not just lighting charms either. It’s as if you’ve been pulled into a magical deadzone.
Who’s incharge of those ministry charms anyway?

Looks like the Minister's office is having some problems with their mail:

Flocks of them. Day in and day out.
Today was no different.
But today was also completely different.
Flight paths a little more droopy than usual, these little purple airplanes suddenly began taking things at a nose dive. Literally. No longer were they zipping towards lifts, other offices, and departments. Now the pointy ends were pointed towards the floor and tops of heads.
Whizzing and zipping by, the only influx today was likely to be paper cuts.

Hopefully you had your desk lamp or overhead light on, because lumos and other lighting charms will not work. In fact, it seems that none of the department charms were working. With any luck you’ve been keeping up with your multilingual skills because that foreign visitor you’re talking with is suddenly no longer speaking the Queen’s English.

The stream changed from strong and steady to soft and babbling and back again. The water coming from the tips of the goblin’s hat, the centaur’s arrow, and the house elf’s ears faltered and then stopped all together.
As the memo hit the Ministry of Magic in the face, a sudden and unusual silence emanated from the fountain.
Did someone shut the fountain off?

The time has come for a second attempt to breach Hogwarts' walls, this join by join effort from the Departments of Magical Law Enforcement, Magical Accidents & Catastrophes, and the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. In the midst of isolation following the departure of the last Ministry team, an eerie silence has settled over the grounds of Hogwarts. There is a stillness in the air, reminiscent of the fact the castle has truly and by all means been abandoned.
Approaching the gate, you’ll notice the mist has receded, allowing for more access than had previously been possible. Now, one could make it nearly to the lake in one direction and just shy of the courtyard in the next. Is it finally letting up or simply moved to somewhere else?
What hasn’t changed, is the thick nature of the mist where it remains. Stepping in will be no different from before, vision beyond an arm’s length virtually impossible.
Hopefully you’ve come more prepared this time.

Encroaching. Encircling. From the inky corners, the nooks and crannies around the hourglasses, slipping out of the broomstick cupboard, descending down the staircase and from the corridors branching off from its top. Their numbers began to increase and only thickened the feeling of fear in the air.
Not real? They certainly were very real. And they were creeping closer and closer..
Suddenly, as with every other encounter, indistinguishable forms suddenly lurched out from the mist and grabbed hold of those (Felixir, lazykitty & TakemetotheBurrow) closest to them. Holding tightly. Refusing to let go.
Still not feel real?
Though something unexpected happened. The forms latching on bleed into another shape, that which would terrorize the mind of their victim, but then it faded into another. Another form that could strike fear into the heart of the human closest to their captive audience. And then a blend of the two. A blend of three. Then a form resembling none of them at all. A muddled amalgam of frights.
DUN DUN DUN.....

Another update on the Hogwarts situation: IT WAS BOGGARTS!

Boggarts.
By the hundreds. No. By the thousands if one were able to take a proper head count.
Infiltrating any and all dark crevasses found in Hogwarts castle, the swarm had moved across the country shrouded the mist in a collective effort to conceal them within it. Humans, magical and not, all feared the unknown and en masse this had become their most efficient means of mobility.
Those few who had been struck by Riddikulus remained hidden in their metallic sanctuaries inside suits of armour or the drawers of some of the cabinets lining the corridor. But it would take much...MUCH...more than that to rid Hogwarts of this infestation. A tedious task ahead but with an end in sight, maybe.
As one wave retreated, another wave swooped in. Trying to appear even more menacing and intimidating in forms than the first.

But he was... free? He was free. It had worked, and not just for him, but the others too.
Backing away slightly, Jake watched as the figures whirled and fled, all the while feeling a mixture of relief and unease. The latter was probably because, despite knowing what the beings - uh, non-beings - were, the overwhelming sense of fear still stuck with him. He turned his head to glance at the others in the group, Alexa in particular, though he naturally ended up trying to assess the status of everyone as much as he could with just a brief look.
"... Now we know..." Sort of. That helped. A bit.
But there was a lot that they still didn't know. Like how on earth were there so many here? Was there someone behind it? Had the boggarts themselves orchestrated it all, or was just some kind of... weird phenomenon? How exactly had those kids died? Jake could think of about half a dozen possibilities in that moment alone.
As it happened, there wasn't actually much time to think about the details or the whys and wherefores. Unsurprisingly, there were more boggarts, swooping forward in the very next moment. Acting instinctively, Jake raised his blackthorn wand again and pointed it at one of the advancing figures. "Riddikulus!"
New question: how on earth were they going to get rid of them all? One at a time, in a continued onslaught of the Boggart-Banishing Spell? There were so many places in Hogwarts for these things to hide, maybe even places that nobody knew about... he wasn't even sure if they could be guaranteed to get them all. If Jake had had a moment to fully consider the matter, he'd probably have been exhausted just thinking about the task ahead.

Simon wasn’t aware of the full report from Environmental and Creatures so he left Alexa’s question to be answered by those more knowledgeable on the matter. He was still paying attention to what might be said however, seeing as any part of it might prove useful for him in this mission. Anything that could help was to be a benefit to them. That and casting a few spells as he slowly progressed in search of the abnormal that could lead to solving the mystery or mysteries rather that them came here to solve.
As first one call and then another concerning the lost students, the auror turned security head didn’t need clarification to know it wasn’t good news. The tones expressed by Ronan and Jake said it all. He sighed and paused, lowering his head for but a moment. Kids...just kids. It didn’t get any easier over the years in dealing with death on the job especially those of the young. But it did strengthen one’s resolve to get to the bottom of things, Simon regrouping and continuing forward into the mist and letting those who had found their charges take care of them.
Before long the large doors that stood to greet the average visitor and inhabitant loomed over for them to enter, Simon tentatively doing just that. No point not going further by exploring the interior of the great castle. The feel was far from what he had ever felt there, even when he was first came as a small nervous eleven-year-old. Oppressive and unnerving to say the very least. He swallowed to gather himself, catching Alexa’s instruction about not moving alone and nearly berating himself. He’d grown so used to handling security often on his own that the safety in numbers didn’t always naturally occur.
If only he had the likes of Josh or Sabel to remain his partners.
Simon spotted the nearest member of their little group, a woman from one of the other departments he believed and moved to head along with her. “Anything on your end?” he asked, grabbing for any information from his current partner. He didn’t get any sort of answer from her at first, figuring she might not have heard him. Though before he could repeat himself there was the screams and he whipped around to investigate. Unfortunately the mist had seeped around and was impeding more of his vision.
“Lum---” he started to cast, stopping sort as the form he had been following was now collapsed on the floor. His eyes widening at the scene and bring him up short.

She tried to remember everything she knew about the creatures while casting another Riddikulus at the non-beings. It seemed like they were coming from everywhere, and she didn't see how they could trap them all. She'd do her part to trap some, at least.
"Riddikulus!"
"Should we summon something to trap them? Something we can lock?" Trunks, containers with lids, anything. She hoped the creatures crew had some plan in mind, because she wasn't sure they could cover this whole castle with the small group they had assembled.

Thankfully, his question wasn't important to the task they were currently facing-getting the creatures out of Hogwarts. It could help steer the direction of the investigation into how they managed to invade the castle, however.
As he started back up the staircase, Ronan overheard Emilia's question and answered by quickly transfiguring the suits of armor and cabinets the things had chosen to hide in into military-style steel trunks with the modification of thick locks, just to be sure the boggarts couldn't get free. And thank goodness it was quick, too, as more took their places in the assault. He aimed his wand at one and cast a silent Riddikulus, imaging the Inferius dressed as a 'gangster' with a small chuckle.

However, this was going to take more than Depulso as his eyes widened beneath his hardened brows at the changing form. It was burning and changing... That's when the proper spell hit directly sending it into hiding. Nodding in agreement.
Boggarts... That's what it was. It made sense as Darej got re-acquainted with his surroundings. His wand arm was out. Boggarts loved to linger in dark and enclosed spaces. They were like snakes, preferring to recluse themselves until tampered with. The question came and that sent him thinking rapidly. Where could they be sent to? Didn't the school have a vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement? Would this really be worth the treck into finding enough of them? Out of the corner of his eye, he could see one of the Aurors attempting to transfigure the suits of armor into trunks.
"Good idea.. we should make it small and portable." After all, Boggarts can take on any size. He could transfer one of the vases into a purse. Darej however, could see the danger was only going to get worse as more arrived. "Riddikulus!" His voice boomed to his regular volume, he would laugh at the sight of the figure falling to a mass of sheets.

While a few of their kin were now successfully contained and ready for transport, the rest continued to swoop down in almost relentless numbers upon their wand wielding foes. Some forms grotesque and specific. Others split into segments of multiple fears and horrors. Others became almost comical looking hodgepodges of several shapes.
Their numbers overwhelming and with the upper hand, the present climate was an uphill battle...and you all caught on your heels.

The whole magic carpet conundrum was turning out to be quite the headache with only Conley seeming to know what anyone was actually talking about. If the situation were a bit different, Charles felt that this could have been the set up to a rather amusing joke along the veins of how many department heads it took to screw in a light bulb. Quite unusual for both Kendra and Victoria to be disorganized with their paperwork.
Merlin this was quickly becoming stuffy conversation now, wasn't it?
"We shall all simply have to regroup at the Ministry on Monday and see if we can get the matter sorted and properly document," he nodded to the trio accompanied with a casual clearing of the throat. "Clerical error somewhere, surely."
And here he thought the interdepartmental memo situation had been rectified.
"Yes. The bubbly," he chuckled while patting Victoria's hand draped around his arm as he bowed his head politely to the rest of the group. "If you will excuse us, raspberry bubblies call and I must make a final bids announcement." He waved his hand among the group. "Hop to it if you haven't already."
And then the Fletcher Family was unfolding before his eyes and despite the formality that the situation, mostly, demanded...Charles found the whole scene heartwarming and brought a rather pleasant twinkle to his eye. "Not at all, Mr. Fletcher," he grinned as he unraveled his arm from around Victoria's to place both of his hands firmly on the younger man's shoulders with a gentle squeeze. "Always have been the family man...and you have a very lovely one I can see." His eyes drifted to the young man and then to his charming wife. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mrs. Fletcher," he greeted the woman with a polite hand shake. "Charles Hollingberry, Minister for Magic. Very much looking forward to working alongside your husband in the Minister's Office." And then it was as though the Glitter Puff were baiting the man. Though, to be fair, it was quite easy to get the man to ramble on and on about his own family.
"You absolutely did!" his voice boomed, CLEARLY pleased that he had remembered his beautiful daughter. "She spoke quite highly of you, a first year during the whole Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts. Though you were not her favorite champion to start, I lament to recall. She was quite close with a Miss Cameron Caddock...were you close with her? My precious ray of perfect sunshine always spoke fondly of the older Gryffindor. One of her first mentors at Hogwarts. She also spoke highly of a Raiden Kururugi...whom you needed to work together with to defeat a rather savage cockatrice. Oooooooh...she wrote PAGES and pages about that final task. A rather bit of brilliant thinking on your part to mimic the call of a rooster to confuse the beast. My daughter, she is a renowned dragonologist now...by the way. Works as a fertility specialist specifically trying to increase the dragon number of endangered species. I have pictures I can show you sometime..and of my five grandchildren her and her husband, Lewis...who was a Hufflepuff as well, blessed me with. Truly terrible what wizardingkind can do to creatures, don't you think? Hunting them nearly to the point of extinction. Getting those great creatures to mate under pressure and incubate their eggs according is quite remarkable...not to mention the conditioning required to get them acclimated back to their natural environment away from the reservation. It's quite delicate work but very important work. But anyway...back to this cockatrice," he chuckled a bit and smoothed his tie down. "Impressive quick thinking on your part under pressure! A valuable skill and quite the remarkable Hogwarts career!"
Forgive him, Victoria, they would be getting to those bubblies in a moment. Though a quick glance at the large pendulum clock on the wall reminded him of an announcement he needed to make as well.
"Oh, pardon me for just a moment..." Clearing his throat, the Minister pressed his wand to his throat and spoke once again. "FINAL CALL FOR ALL BIDDING IN THE SILENT AUCTION! I will be announcing the winning bids in 15 minutes!"

Upon fetching himself and Victoria little slender glasses of bubbly, he would most certainly swing back around to embarrass chat with Fletcher and his charming family later, the Minister couldn't help but swirl it the two frozen raspberries that were floating in the liquid around a bit. "Doesn't that just look delightful?" he mused to himself while giving it all another proper swirl. "A raspberry Bellini, I requested it myself of the catering team. The Bellini itself was invented over a century ago by Giuseppe Cipriani in Venice, Italy. I do enjoy the region when I do get some time to travel." Which, outside of work related affairs, had not been since his honeymoon many many moons ago. "All from the admiration of a painting, if you can believe it. Though traditionally and originally it was made with peaches. I find my pallet prefers the tart raspberry flavor, however."
All utterly unnecessary information the man was spewing, but he was suffering from a bit of nostalgia as the evening wore on.
"Oh, do pardon me for just a moment, Victoria. I believe it is time for me to announce the winners of the bidding." And with that, he took his temporary leave to ascent the little makeshift stage between the seating and auction items with the Fountain of Magical Brethren framing him in the background.
His drink in hand, he gave the glass a few taps to alert the crowd that there was an announcement to be had.
"Witches and wizards of our great community, good evening and a belated welcome to our Centennial Celebration. It is my esteemed honor to now announce the winners of our silent auction. A reminder that the proceeds will all go towards the repair effort for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and not a knut shall go to waste of your thoughtful spending." With a flick of his wand, Charles summoned the boxes to his person and, thanks to some miniature goblin figurines placed within each box who hand sorted the parchments, pulled the winning bid from each. "Please do try to hold your applause until the end," he mused before clearing his throat. Not a single bid was had on the Jollyrocket 2200 Racing Broom, which was a pity, so Charles moved on to the next racing broom which fared much better. "The winner of the Nimbus 4000 Racing Broom with a bid of 55 Galleons is one Katrina Rotheberg!" Out came the next piece of parchment. "With a staggering bid of 200 Galleons, the winner of the Moontrimmer Dlite Racing Broom is Magical Games and Sports' very own Lucas Hawthorne! The winner of the Florean Fortescue's Delectable Delight Basket is James Summers with a bid of 75 Galleons." The Minister gave pause here as one of the tiny enchanted goblins tugged on the sleeve of his robe while chattering something shrilly. "Hmm?" he mused as he leaned down so that it may show him another piece of parchment. Charles smiled warmly seeing the note therein, the offering of Gaston Marchand to have his galleon accepted even if not the winning bid. Rather than announce this, he would seek out the man later for a more intimate discussion of gratitude.
"Pardon me. Now, moving along we have the winner of the three original art pieces, which goes to Jonathan Kim with a bid of 200 Galleons!" OOOOOOOOOOH he would HAVE to tell his precious pea of a daughter about this. Perhaps they could all meet over lunch. It would be lovely. "The winner of our private robes fitting and the highest bid of the night at 500 Galleons goes to Guilia Barsi!" Impressive indeed! "The custom stationary set goes to Sterling Archer Calrissian at 30 Galleons and the rare stamp collection to Mysteries department head, Airey Flamsteed with a bid of 120 Galleons!" Charles could feel his chest swelling, perhaps even his eyes misting up a bit seeing just how many unique winners there were and how generous their contributions to the cause were. It was a beautiful moment, seeing the wizarding world come together. "James Summers will also be taking away the massive fireworks display thanks to his bid of 315 Galleons! Well done my boy!"
Setting all these boxes aside, it was time to dip into the department head 'dates'. "Priceless as the experience of spending a day with one of Ministry's own may be, we do have some definite winners to announce! Let us begin all the way down at the deepest reaches of the Ministry with Department of Mysteries head, Airey Flamsteed...congratulations to Katrina Rotheberg!" Oh this certainly was the fun bit of these announcements and yes, he was leaving the number values off these for a reason. Though there was a slight frown that tugged at the corners of his lips before he announced the next winner. "For a day with Magical Games and Sports' Victoria Culloden...congratulations Lucille Pembrooke! Congratulations to myself for a day with Magical Transportation head, Kendra Jordan-Durand. I think you may enjoy meeting one of my sons. We'll chat later." His sons were absolutely hopeless in meeting women, truly. "Congratulations to Giovanni Montanari for sagging the winning bid for a day with the Creatures head Zhuó Xiá Li!" Oh well, would you look at that! James had come out tonight! That was lovely and Charles found himself a little disappointed that he had not had a run in with him just yet. "Congratulations to James Draper for the winning bid for a day with the lovely Eliora Dodderidge! The lovely and impeccable January Bones, my right hand here at the Ministry, will be spending a day with Duncan Fletcher! I do hope the Mrs isn't jealous of that 101 Galleon bid of yours, my boy," he announced with a chuckle, somewhat oblivious to the fact that he had just announced the Galleon amount despite his intention to not do so when it came to the auctioning of his department head team. "And finally, a day with your Minister goes too...." Oh. Well then. "Victoria Culloden."
Well then.
"That concludes the results of our silent auction. A round of applause for our winners, please!" Which, of course, Charles lead off with strong clapping of his own. "And another round of applause for all our participants! Now, please enjoy the rest of your evening here at the Centennial Celebration!"
And with that, Charles removed himself from the stage and returned to Victoria's side. "Well then, Victoria. 55 Galleons, eh?" He was touched, truly. "Though would you believe that James Draper bid 200 Galleons on Eliora! He must fancy her something fierce, wouldn't you agree? I am, as Minister, capable of performing wedding ceremonies. I should let them know in case they are in need of such services."
OOC: forgive the absurdly late conclusion of the raffle <3 RL was absolutely swamped this past week.

The clacks were soon joined with odd whizzes and buzzes, clicks, and clacks.
If the Seer and Potioneer were to travel a few feet further into the chamber, they would find that many of the revolving tools, recording devices, and the large machine that looked like a Lorenz Cipher were the cause of the noise. What had set them off? Had someone been using them only to walk away? The two Unspeakables were alone in the room. Or were they?

Three of the paper airplanes flew over the heads of the two employees below (Love-for-HP / GD2204) on their way like usual.
Only after those three memos passed by, there were no airplane memos for an unusually odd length of time. Funny, why did the mail stop? Was it a national holiday?
And then a lift arrived. The doors opened with a ding and out poured a small mountain of purple memos. The paper airplanes tumbled and slid across the floor. Quick! Better gather them all up before the lift gates crushed them beyond repair.

Notice from the Minister for Creatures, Transportation, and Mysteries!
Thanks to the efforts of the departments of Magical Law Enforcement, Magical Accidents & Catastrophes, the Care and Regulation of Magical Creatures, and Environmental Regulation and Protection, we have confirmation that the the situation at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding is the doing of an unprecedented boggart infestation and were able to contain a few of the creatures.
The time has come for a third and, hopefully, final attempt to restore Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and remove all boggarts. With the assistance of the Department of Magical Transportation, a series of modified emergency portkeys have been created that have been successfully tested on the captured boggarts for both luring and containment purposes and have additional high security level enchantments placed on them by the Department of Mysteries. Debriefing documents have been distributed among the levels and further instruction will come from your respective department heads. This mission is ranked DANGEROUS and has two objectives:
Quote:
1. Successfully infiltrate Hogwarts castle
2. Seek out and contain all boggarts, effectively rendering Hogwarts boggartless
All capable and able hands are required for this mission and one should contact their department head immediately with interest so that teams may be assembled and enough emergency portkeys created for each member by the Department of Magical Transportation.

Despite efforts and expectations set forth by the Minister, the problem regarding these colorful paper airplanes could not be solved and all new attempt to charm any papers were fruitless. Only one, rather archaic, method proved to have any level of efficiency: owls.
Real hooting tooting owls:wigpig:
So while there may be no colorful paper airplanes in there air, there were plenty of white owl droppings and feathers scattered across the floors of the Ministry. Sometimes the droppings came with a bit of variation in them: black or black and white. Festive.
So watch your heads and mind where you step, dear Ministry personnel. It's looking like a messy year if the janitorial staff cannot keep up.

Owls swooping in and out are starting become normal with the memo system not working, but as one big snowy owl comes into the offices of the Magical Games and Sports it gives some extra droppings on a desk as it flies by. Landing on the department heads desk the bird smelled some treats in a bag and began ripping the bag open to find them.

A letter in it's mouth, the little owl seemed to be either lost or stuck in the training room. It flew around and pecked at the walls, but it didn't seem to know how it got in or how to get out.

Was it lunch time?
Two owls swooped in with packages and dropped them on the table, instead of leaving though they perched on the table to have a snack from someone's lunch.

"Oh-" January started, looking around on the ground. It was just a piece of paper. Honestly, the woman could have picked it up for her instead of just telling her, but that was neither here nor there.
January stooped over to pick the piece of paper up, inspecting it quickly to see if it was anything important.

It was all going smoothly, better than she had planned since the woman stopped right near the alley. Now all she needed to do was a quick silence spell, bend down and tell her not to try anything and move into the alley. As she went to slip her wand out of her rob she noticed two students down the street.
Simone didn't bother with them even though she could have easily fixed the issue, but they were far enough down the street that she bent down close to the woman and as she did she did a quick nonverbal stunning spell. Placing her arms on January's arms to steady her and to seem like she was only helping January if onlookers would see from the distance they were.
Simone swiftly apparated away from Diagon Alley with January Bones.

It all happened in slow motion. His sandwich and apple slices following the momentum of the knock and up into the air, the CLINK of his tin vintage lunch box as it struck his sundial wristwatch in his attempt to catch it, a bit of mayonnaise and leaf of lettuce falling on to his thigh AND ON HIS SUIT...it was truly a scene from a horror movie and one Airey Flamsteed could not look away from it...while also did not know WHICH to rubberneck about more - his ruined pant leg or his poor now slightly dented lunch box.
"Aba...abababa...abababababa...noooooooooooooooo!" he mourned in a low wail as he flung the mayonnaise covered piece of lettuce aside (and towards the woman entirely on accident) before bending down to scoop up his lunch box and cradle it in his arms.
He could fix this...it was just a small dent.

Knowing he'd be dramatic Simone took a chance that he would bend to grab the food or the lunch box. As she was scooped down she kept apologizing and instead of picking up the pieces she pulled out her wand. "It's okay, I can take care of this and fix your lunch box." She was being the sweetest citizen and lifted her wand, but instead of cleaning up the mess she turned slightly more toward the man and whispered
"Stupefy"
Without missing a beat she reached for the man and apparated them both away. It was like Airey and the lunchbox had never sat down to lunch after all.

It was a welcome distraction to the magical hubbub she would walk into as soon as she got to the ministry. It was true, she had one of the most involved departments (or so she would say) and her job was busy but brilliant.
Eliora took a sip from her coffee as she too came to a stop to look at the woman in front of her. "Coffee? Oh, I got you!" Whilst she couldn't suggest the coffee machine in her office, she knew of the perfect early morning coffee joint. Perfect enough, anyway. Any coffee was good coffee. Just the best coffee belonged to her.
"Straight down the end just before you get to Trafalgar Square. Orange umbrellas outside and a little dog statue by the door. I don't think they ever close. I bet a night shift in a coffee place is great. How many customers could you really have at 2am?" Just for assistance, Eliora turned slightly to point down the way she had came from.

2 a.m. and costumers did make Simone tilt her head a moment, but soon Eliora turned to point down to where the coffee shop was located and that gave Simone the moment she needed stepping a tad closer and pulling her wand just enough to do a nonverbal stunning spell she reached out to touch the back of the department head and hold her up right as she apparated them both away.

January was in a very good mood today. The sun was shining and she was inside the Ministry, ready to get to work. Sure, it was just another day in the Ministry, but she felt good to be there.
And she wanted tea. Part of her wanted to spice things up and try a different kind, or perhaps even a coffee, but she decided it was best to stick to the usual. After paying for her tea, January used her food to nudg a kitty cat out of her way with no regard her and looked over a few plants. Today seemed like a good day to buy a new plant for the office.
There's something weird about Mrs. Bones but I'm not going to point it out to you. psych! look at what i bolded

Or was it a simple case of charms gone wrong?
Suspicious indeed.

Interesting...that the employees of this Ministry did not know their own Minister. He would tuck this little bit of information away while he proceeded to attempt to appear more animated. Surely the situation would demand this.
"Minister?" he replied with a bit of a forced chuckle. "Afraid the stars have not aligned in such a manner for myself. Still the department head over at Mysteries, however." His piercing blues looked the brunette up and down for a moment, just as a bit of smoke from the fireplaces began creeping along the floor over his well polished shoes. "Someone should inform Transportation," he noted casually while dusting his hands off and using his wand to vanish any of the remnants of floo powder in his hands. "Their floo powder is worthless...as too seem to be the fireplaces."

Merlin's beard, what was wrong with her?
Maybe it was earlier than Regina realized if she was mixing up faces and names like this. Or maybe it was the empty stomach messing with her brain.
Either way, she now had a strong urge to dig a hole to hide herself in.
"Sorry, my bad," she said as she felt her face warm.
Aaand...now there was green smoke pouring out of the fireplaces. Yep, something was definitely wrong. Great.
"I...could go let someone know?" She wasn't entirely sure if he was looking for a volunteer, though since he'd only said 'someone' and they were the only two who'd noticed this so far, she figured she might as well offer. "Seems kinda...suspicious that they would suddenly start malfunctioning though." She'd never heard of floo powder just suddenly not working. Not that she was exactly an expert. But did it have an expiration date? Or even if it did, why would that cause the fireplace to spew green smoke? Or maybe it didn't cause it, but...
Yeah, it was definitely too early in the day for all this.
More emphasis by me, you're welcome, dears. :coffee:
Also, floos are down, so there's that.

The history books and papers, however, would look back on on the 24th of September, 2101 with entirely different regard.
There was no warning. No indication of anything amiss. Nothing to warn the aurors of the series of explosions that took place, blowing away walls, doors off their hinges, and allowing a WHOOSH of icy cold air from the OUTSIDE that SWOOSHED through the cells and stone corridors of Azkaban. The bone chilling draft was enough to cause even the most capable of wizard to still, to feel the goosebumps form and hairs raise on the back of their neck.
Pure chaos ensued. Some were recaptured. Many were not. And none noticed a handful of figures fleeing the scene towards the cliff. A series of green flashes later and only two departed the scene. The others fell limply into the raging ocean below.
Azkaban was compromised, it's walls resembling that of Swiss cheese in some places, and then came the roar of the prisoners' as they celebrated their release.

"That him?" sheered one of the women with blackened teeth as she pointed a crooked finger towards the dippy looking fellow with frizzy hair.
"Reckon it is," nodded a second, a tall lanky man with hollow eyes.
The third remained silent, though was curiously eyeing this Jack Roller's neck with entirely too keen an interest as he extended his pale hand out to receive his paperwork.

Her team would round up the criminals just fine. She wanted every criminal back in a cell if they were still on the premises, then they'd scour London and spiral outward from there. This was going to be a long day.
After checking the surrounding area, an auror stepped forward to get the door open to the warden's office. Not a one of them let their guard down, half expecting someone to run out. When that didn't happen, the small team slowly entered the room.
"Oi, Warden? The hell's going on here?"
Where was he? Were they really looking for a body? The room looked empty but, "Check every inch."
