| | | Hazel Hashbrown Hendrik Once again its time for the next installment of AJ's Interrogations. Dumbledore here is taking over in AJ's absense.
This newest one is our very own Headmaster for the Hogwarts Role Playing School: Hendrik!! Now where did AJ put that quill? *looks* ah here it is... Dumbledore: how do you feel being the new MotW? Hendrik: Kinda surprised, didn't really see it comming. I've been really busy with getting this term underway, sorting hat, Hogwarts Express, Welcoming Feast, opening the school, and working on the HIT. Dumbledore: Well, you have been doing a wonderful job!
Have you been sorting all by yourself? Hendrik: Thanks! And no I haven't been sorting by myself. Jalita started out and then when Syd was hired on as Admin she really did a bang up job sorting. She just jumped right in and sorted her fingers to the bone!! Dumbledore: Could you explain the sorting process for our members? Hendrik: Well once the member fills out the sorting quiz/request it is sent to our own Sorting Hat forum. From there the Headmaster (or any Admin) reviews it and tries to decide on the approiate House. Most of the time we try and honor a member's request but it isn't always that easy. If that were the case, Gryffindor would have the most students! lol. When I sort I try and keep the Houses pretty much equal so the competition for the House Cup is fair. Dumbledore: Sounds like a very fair way of sorting, and a very personal touch.
I have always called it "the most realistic Sorting Hat on the web" because I feel like we really try to base your house on your personality - to the best of our ability. Hendrik: Yes, I agree with that. Dumbledore: How did you first find out about the SS? Hendrik: Well I don't really remember how I found out about SS...it's been almost a year now...sheesh, a whole year! My how time flies. I think it was the Potter Magic story that we did. I found SS through a link somewhere about the "Create the next Harry Potter Story". I wanted to win one of those Alivan's magical wands, heehee Dumbledore: Yes those are AWESOME!
Ok, now for some HP questions:
What is your favorite HP book and why? Hendrik: Well, I really enjoyed HP and The Goblet of Fire. Lots of action and the stand off in the end was really good, you know btwn Harry and Voldy. I liked the fact that his parents came out of Voldy's wand and spoke to him. That was the first time that he actually spoke to his parents well not actually spoke to them but they spoke to him. And the "line drawn in the sand" when Dumbledore told Fudge that Voldemort was back. You could feel the tention in JK's writing....well at least I could. Dumbledore: That's my favorite book too! (book 4)
I'm so excited about the movie! Hendrik: Yeah, can't wait to see how they put all of that in a 2.5-3 hour movie. Dumbledore: no kidding
How did you like PoA (movie)? Hendrik: I really liked several parts of PoA (the movie) though there were times I was waiting for them to explain how things happened like how Snape knew to follow Lupin to the Shriking Shack and possibly more on the history of why Snape hated or rather disliked Lupin and Black so much. I think the movie was really good. Having read the book first I was kinda looking for more things to be explained on screen but how much can you put into a 2.5 hour movie?? Dumbledore: Which movie scene did you like the most? Hendrik: I really liked all of the Buckbeak scenes. And the whole timeturner sequence was cool....though if you haven't read the book I can see where that part might have been confusing. Dumbledore: I loved the time-turner sequence!
And the music to it was excellent! Hendrik: Yes! I have the sound track!!! Dumbledore: What HP character do you relate to the most? Hendrik: hmmmm.... I'm not sure, I see myself as a little bit of Hagrid, very kind and wanting to help out a lot, plus I seem to gravitate to the magical creatures side of HP. Always looking for a new creature to show up in the books and on screen! Then there is McGonagall, strong sence of school loyality and duty! By the book! And who wouldn't like to see some of Dumbledore in them??! Kind, nurturing, real grandfather type figure. Possibly a bit of Remus Lupin thrown in there as well. Good, loyal friend to the end, full of secrets yet very understanding. Dumbledore: Wow, that's a great mix!
So, why do you think so many people read HP? Hendrik: I think HP appeals to the kid in us all! I mean who wouldn't jump on the Hogwarts Express tomorrow if they got a letter from Hogwarts today! Fantasy mixed in with a bit of reality....I would go in a heart-beat! Dumbledore: ok, this next question is from the last MotW, Dee: "Who would you make MotW, if you had the power to do such thing?" Hendrik: ooo....well let's see...there are so many really talented sorted students out there as well as professors...phoebe phoenix is very talented. Her classes are what kept me interested in the school side of SS when I was first a student. Lotus appears to be very nice and active as does the new Gryffindor House Ghost, Spots. And then there is biochemkris, she has been really helpfull and came up with the suggestion of creating a time line for the school stories. I think without that we would flounder around until the last min. and try and get everything done during the final week of the term. The time line was crucial during last term. Dumbledore: Biochemkris is coming soon...
As for the others, they're now on my list! :-) he he
If you could ask JK one question, what would it be? Hendrik: Gosh, well...let's see... I guess one question that I would like to pin her on is what is planned post Hogwarts. I know I've read that when book 7 is done, she was going to be finished, no more HP. However I've read since then that she's not so sure that after book 7 she will be done with young Harry Potter. She has said that she might re-visit Harry later but was going to take a break from it for a while. So I guess my question would be whether or not she was sure that after book 7 was there going to be any more adventures or possibly other books like "Hogwarts, A History" or an updated version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" or the like. Dumbledore: OK, now we get to talk about you!!
Tell us a bit about yourself. Hendrik: Well, let's see, my family calls me Dave, I'm 34, live in Tallahassee, Florida. Work for the government, Florida Fish and Wildlife. I've got my degree in Biology and I'm trying to finish up my master's in Geography. Ready for a real sleeper of a title for my thesis??? "Spatial and Temporal Variations in Fish Community Structure in a Southwest Florida Estuary"....talk about bed time reading...zzzZZZZ :-P Dumbledore: Hey, you're the same age as me!
So, How would you describe your personality? Hendrik: I'm really out-going and have no problems speaking to large groups of people as long as I can crack a joke to losen the tention. I try to be understanding when problems arise and listen to all sides of the story but don't try and pull the wool over my eyes, you will have lots of ground to make up if I find out you've been mis-leading. I can be very forgiving and have problems remembering things like where I've placed things around the house....and on my PC. I'm constantly "searching" for documents I've saved to one folder or another. You might say I archive too much (:-\). Dumbledore: What are some of your hobbies? And do you have a secret talent? Hendrik: I really enjoy the outdoors, anything outside is great! I played some baseball in college and I love the water, fresh or salt! Now about my secret talent.....well if I told you I would have to kill you! Hahahahaha....just kidding! I love to cook but not sure if that could be considered a secret or not, tell me after you eat my cooking! Dumbledore: Ah! So what's your favorite dish? Hendrik: Anything Italian! It seems the more stressed I get the more elaborate my meals get especially desert and then it's chocolate all the way! Death By Chocolate! I also favor cooking on the grill, fish, chicken, pork....I even have my own secret family recipe for a white BBQ sauce and my very own spice mixture given to me by my grandmother! Dumbledore: Man that sounds great!
Other movies or books you enjoy? Hendrik: I've enjoyed the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, all of them. She can really spin a realistic tale about the darker side of humanity.
Movies....well there is always James Bond and just about any action type movie! Love the action! Dumbledore: Well, we're winding down...
What question would you like me to ask the next MotW? Hendrik: Well I think Madame Sparrow put it nicely when she asked "If you could be one article of clothing, what would it be and why?" Dumbledore: And one final question: Who inspires you most in your life? Hendrik: My father. He was a very fair man, though when I was growing up I didn't always think so. I continously find myself acting and sounding just like him. Not sure if it's a blessing or a curse but I do look up to him quite often. Excellent! OK, I'll unstrap you from the chair and let you get back to work!
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions!
And keep up the great work as Headmaster!! Hendrik: Hahaha...I'm just on my way to ss now....to see what's happening. I've enjoyed the interview and thanks for the vote of confidence!!! |

Oh wow, an interview by our Webmaster of our Headmaster... (rhyme not intended. Seriously.)
Was really nice to read about our Hendrik Confirmed my suspicions - he is a very likeable person! Not to mention a very interesting one. How did you decide to get into the Wildlife department? Was it because you liked wildlife/animals in general and wanted to work with/for them in some way?
Your thesis title isn't that much of a sleeper, if you can understand some of it But it sounds like an interesting topic, at any rate My Environmental Science teacher at school has just finished a similar one on a rarer variety of Hornbill.
One last question Now that last year is over and the Beauxbatons are gone, may I enquire who played the characters? Surely it can't still be a secret...
Looking forward to as exciting a year as last one! |

I really don't work with wildlife on a day to day basis. I sit behind a computer and run computer models and look at spatial data collected from satelites. My group has recently finished mapping all of the vegetation classes across the entire state of Florida. This data will be used to determine if there is enough habitat for certain endangered and threatened species as well as species of concern, like the Florida Panther.
Now I can't tell you who played the Beauxbaton characters, in case we need to bring some of them back at a later date.....but I will say that I know all of them...one of them quite well!

Well, I finally know why I like Professor Hendrik so much. He's closer to my age group than alot of snitchsneekers members. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one who became involved with SS because of the Potter Project. I enjoyed writting the stories more than winning a wand which was a good thing because I never came close to winning one. By the way, I think you all do a great job of sorting the individuals into houses. At first, I was a little mad I didn't get sorted into Gryffindor house, but after a while, I decided you guys made the right choice. I am more suited to Hufflepuff. One more thing, please tell Madame Sparrow I was not wild about her question: If you were a piece of clothing, what would you be. To me, that was the hardest question to answer on the Triwizard Tournament application. Looking forward to seeing you in class. I nearly forgot. Last terms storyline did work better with the time line. There were still a few things that didn't get wrapped up last term, but I'm hoping they will be resolved this term. I can't wait for the Inter-house Tournament to start. It promises to be the best storyline yet.

This is a nice interview... Kudos both to Mr. Dumbledore and Mr. Hendrik...
Come to think of it, I thought that Hendrik was your real name, but now I found out that it is Dave...
Well, I know who the Beauxbaton visitors are...
And this Inter-house Championship, I hope that it works out well...
Thanks!

TIMELINES ROCK!!!!!!!
hehehehe... someone is a bit of an organizational freak, I think.
I love The Vampire Chronicles, as well.
and.... Quote: "Spatial and Temporal Variations in Fish Community Structure in a Southwest Florida Estuary" I actually understood what that said and it didn't sound that boring. Although- do you have a materials and methods section?- cause those are usually cause for sleeping. I like reading through the introductions, skipping over the middle (m&m and results, and heading straight to the discussion section (only looking back to the m&m and results section if necessary).

Can I say anything that hasn't already been said? Probably not. Oh well, lol. I also think it was a great interview, though I think all of them are great! Any way you can learn about fellow SS members is a GOOD thing!!
And I'm happy to find out that there are SS members over the age of 20. (Like me!! <---I'm 25) I think it helps round out the demographics when there are Males and females of all ages. Makes the conversations that much more interesting. Anyway, Good Job all!! Keep em comin!!

| Very nice interview Headmaster (Dave). Think I knew about most of it already though. Glad to hear that Florida's coasts and estuaries are in good hands. We could use you in the Chesapeake Bay near where I live. Thanks for the mention as well. I've suspected my turn was coming for awhile now. It'll open some eyes I'm sure. Thanks for your help at this site and good luck with the timeline.
