The problem is how the link parses the < as '%3C' and its the reason we tend to discourage symbols in usernames Pixie's gonna help you troubleshoot it though, but I'm just posting here in case anyone else comes across the same or similar problem.
edit: also, at least for chrome users, if you can't get to your PMs/profile/VMs, it seems to work if you go through your CP link instead.
