Default Zoe's Scribbles That Stick

I am diving into the Aparecium Challenge for Seektober 2025, armed with nothing but a stack of Post-Its (a necessity for this English teacher) and a pencil. My medium of choice is—no surprise here—sticky note doodles. On these little squares, my scribbles will take shape, transforming into bite-sized bursts of creativity I can stick just about anywhere. My goal is to complete 15 prompts this year, with anything beyond that number being considered "extra credit"!

I'll be pulling prompts from across all the challenge lists (Nick, Friar, Lady, Baron, and Myrtle), choosing whichever idea sparks in the moment. Some days may turn into full-fledged mini masterpieces, whereas others may be nothing more than hurried lines before the next bell rings. Either way, it's about the joy of making something one square at a time.

14. INTELLIGENCE

(Materials: Post-It note, pencil)

BRAAAAAAAIN! Posting this now, I can already think of so many different ways I could've represented the concept of intelligence: books stacked sky-high, a thoughtful portrait, maybe even a lightbulb moment captured mid-spark. But as I sat sipping my morning coffee, the image of a good old-fashioned wrinkly brain just refused to leave my head. So here it is, in all its squiggly, glorious detail.

15. SNAKE

(Materials: Post-It note, pencil)

This one took a fair bit of tweaking (and a few dramatic sighs) to get the positioning and proportions just right. I wasn't entirely sure how to make the scales look properly scale-y, so I just winged it with some crisscross lines and hoped for the best. In the end, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Say hello to Esmerelda, a sassy little snake with plenty of charm and attitude.

16. ANCIENT RUNES

(Materials: Post-It note, pencil)

I started this one toward the end of my conference period, sketching out the basic outlines to get the overall composition in place before moving on to the details. I went back over everything at the odd spare moment and during my lunch to darken the Algiz rune so it was more prominent and refine the texture of the tree bark. I kept returning to it here and there throughout the day until I stopped myself before the "went too far" stage kicked in.

17. WITCH HUNTS

(Materials: Post-It note, pencil)

I'd been eyeing the "witch hunts" prompt for a while, mulling over how to bring the idea to life without making it too graphic or unsettling. On my drive home from work, I found myself picturing a few possibilities: pitchforks and torches raised in the dark or a somber pile of stones. But in the end, I settled on a single burning stake, empty yet powerful enough to capture the weight of that history. Once I got home, I sat down and dove straight into sketching to unwind from the day.

18. TOMBSTONE CAKE

(Materials: Post-It note, pencil)

Sneaking in one last piece in honour of Nick's 533rd Deathday! I'm about to settle in for some scary movies, but I didn't want to miss the chance to post this one. I had a lot of fun playing with the different shapes and lines for this sketch. I briefly considered making the entire cake be the shape of a tombstone, like how it is described in Chamber of Secrets, but decided to give this lovely sPoOoOoOoKy dessert my own twist. I imagine the frosting would be grassy green, and the cake itself would be dirt brown.

Okay, the tombstone cake is my favorite it legit looks like it could be an illustration for a chapter heading in the HP books. Everything about it (THE DOILY!) is just perfect. (although it is a very tight first place between it and 'stains')

also just a general appreciation for the way you capture depth (looking at you, Ancient Runes, witch hunts. gloomy, and forest). Such delicate detailing that you made look effortless.

Also the way you captured the elements - the rain and fire - is just so so pretty. The rain look harsh with the crisp lines (excellent for gloomy) and the fire looks almost soft and feathery like it would tickle (which, given HP lore, is accurate).

awesome awesome ~scribbles~, Zoe
