Seektober AtelierA home for past and present creativity, this space showcases creativity from this annual Gladrags event and offers space to continue exploring artistic projects inspired by Seektober.
I am diving into the Aparecium Challenge for Seektober 2025, armed with nothing but a stack of Post-Its (a necessity for this English teacher) and a pencil. My medium of choice is—no surprise here—sticky note doodles. On these little squares, my scribbles will take shape, transforming into bite-sized bursts of creativity I can stick just about anywhere. My goal is to complete 15 prompts this year, with anything beyond that number being considered "extra credit"!
I'll be pulling prompts from across all the challenge lists (Nick, Friar, Lady, Baron, and Myrtle), choosing whichever idea sparks in the moment. Some days may turn into full-fledged mini masterpieces, whereas others may be nothing more than hurried lines before the next bell rings. Either way, it's about the joy of making something one square at a time.

OMG ZOE!!!!!!! YAAAAAY I love this concept! I think it's a great idea to use post-its to make a quick doodle! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Awww! You two are the sweetest! Thank you both so much for the posts before I even had anything to show! I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes out of these Post-It doodles and sharing them with you all.
I finally carved out a bit of time during my conference period yesterday and today to sit down and tackle a few prompts. And now, without further ado, I come bearing some art!
01. GLASSES (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
For my very first Post-It doodle (or sketch... or whatever we're calling it), I decided to start small and ease into the challenge of working with such a tiny canvas. The 'glasses' prompt from the Moaning Myrtle list immediately caught my eye. Naturally, I went with a Harry Potter/Moaning Myrtle–inspired pair of spectacles and even gave shading and shadows a go.

02. STAINS (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
The next prompt that grabbed my attention came from the Bloody Baron challenge. I first toyed with sketching a shirt stain, but quickly lost patience trying to wrangle the proportions of a shirt. So I pivoted to the next idea that struck: coffee and mug stains.

03. MUG (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
With the previous prompt still lingering in my mind (and my trusty coffee mug within arm's reach), I couldn't resist tackling this one from the Fat Friar challenge. I am quite pleased with the messy shading because it added some nice depth while also cleverly disguising a few imperfections along the way.

04. MOUSTACHE (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
Before the school day started today, I found myself doodling different moustache styles just to see what might stick. After a few quick tries, I settled on a classic set of handlebars. I will admit it looks a little comical floating there on its own, but the idea of adding a mouth underneath felt far more intimidating than I was ready for at 7 a.m. Instead, I leaned into the simplicity and let the moustache have its own moment in the spotlight.

05. FOREST (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
I, metaphorically, wandered into the forest during today's conference time and happily got lost there for a while. This one took me a good chunk of the period, but I am really pleased with how it turned out. The background and the canopy leaves turned out a bit messy. Honestly, no complaints about that. If the bell wasn't about to ring, I probably would've kept fussing over it even longer.

Zoe, how did I not know you were such a good artist?! Love this idea and love the pieces you have made! I’d formulate more thoughts on this, but I’m currently too sick to. But amazing!

Thank you for the kind words, Jess! Do you remember that Quaffle pendant/necklace I sketched AGES ago during our Amelia and Tancred RP days? The artist was always there, quietly doodling.

Awww. Thank you, Suzy! I've always been a secret doodler, though it wasn't until this past year or so that I began treating my drawing spurts more seriously and joined a few art classes with a couple friends. I really enjoy sketching random objects and little landscapes. Drawing hands and people? Absolutely terrifying.
And the moustache definitely has a personality of its own, and I'm so glad you enjoy it! It certainly was a fun prompt to draw.

Thank you for your encouraging post, Whit! That is so kind of you! And I'm so sorry you are feeling sick though; sending all the healing vibes your way! Rest up and take it easy.
06. DIADEM (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
We had professional development today, so after checking off everything on my to-do list, I decided to wind down with a few relaxing Post-It sketches. The first prompt that caught my eye while I was looking at the Grey Lady list was 'diadem'. I started looking up references from the Potter films, briefly entertaining the idea of trying to replicate that iconic design. In the end, I chickened out and decided to go with something a little simpler and arguably cuter.

07. GOLDEN EGG (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
Now, I know the golden egg in the movies is incredibly intricate and absolutely stunning. But for this sketch, I wanted to capture something a little closer to what Mary GrandPré did with her Goblet of Fire art ... or maybe I was just channeling the golden eggs from the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film. Either way, this was my take: a simple, shiny golden egg.

08. BOOKS (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
This little stack of books was the final prompt I tackled before calling it a day and heading home. I briefly considered getting ambitious by adding a cover design or even a title to the top book, but I decided against it. In hindsight, that was definitely the right call; I ended up spending a lot of time just trying to get the page lines to look alright!

I moustache you a question (har har, so funny and yes absolutely a nod to that smart moustache you drew) - about what kind of post it notes you are using because that looks like some NICE paper compared to these flimsy things I use
the stains one is my favorite out of the ones you have done thus far
and WOW the embarrassment on not realizing you had posted so many little doodle nuggets looking forward to more!

first of all. I gotta say how much I am in awe of your lines. linework? whatever its called. so crisp and clear. amazed at the symmetry of those glasses also. I always find things like glasses so deceptively difficult and that's without them even being on a face.
as for that mug. well. idk how you did that because mugs are also very deceptive (it's all those simple lines and shapes, I think. nowhere to hide). I am enamoured with the shading on it too. and the shading on the moustache as well, it jumps right off the page. and not to belabour the point but for real it's the mastery of the prompts with the simple and clean shapes that amaze me.
but the forest has to be my favourite so far. the shading and the depth are incredible. it looks ethereal and I want to be there.
big fan of the post-it concept too. something about the yellow is really calming and cozy.

I cannot for the life of me remember the brand, as I just have a storage container that has been collecting packs of Post-Its over the past couple of years. I'll have to sift through my Amazon orders to see.
Glad you found your way here and like what you see!

Such sweet words. Thank you, Suzy! I'm glad you like the diadem and egg. Now, if there were a chocolate prompt, I totally would do a Wonka chocolate bar.

Such high praise from you, Felix! Thank you so much for the kind feedback. I owe the art classes I've been taking a lot of credit for honing/fine-tuning my line work and shading. If we were to compare the things I was drawing years ago with the objects and landscapes I make currently, a lot of progress has been made. Drawing people is still daunting to me. One day, perhaps, I'll muster the courage.

09. PIPES (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
It has been a busy stretch with balancing several projects at once, but I've still found time here and there to fill a few Post-Its with doodles. Finally got around to uploading some sketches I've been meaning to post for a while now, and I aim to reach 15 prompts by tomorrow. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, here are some good ol' pipes!
When I first thought about this prompt, I considered drawing a bubbling cauldron or perhaps a glass filled with some muddy-looking liquid. But then inspiration struck in the form of a potion bottle, and I just went from there. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out, though I must admit the potion liquid itself looks a bit too appetising for Polyjuice.

11. SPYING (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
Before I landed on the final piece, I thought about drawing a set of eyes. Then my mind wandered to the V.F.D. symbol from A Series of Unfortunate Events, which led me to want to draw a spyglass instead. I looked through a few reference images and ended up choosing a more traditional design.

12. GLOOMY (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
Right off the bat, this prompt made me think of someone with a sad expression. But, since drawing people and faces still feels a bit intimidating, I decided instead to capture a gloomy, rainy day. Rather than simply sketching clouds and rain, I turned it into a landscape piece, planning out some rolling hills and what could be seen as either a lake or a river.

13. TUSKS (Materials: Post-It note, pencil)
Before the school day started and during my conference period today, I made sure to spend the time knocking out a handful of sketches so I could hit my 15-prompt goal. As I was scrolling through the list, 'tusks' from Nearly Headless Nick caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try. And, well... they're tusks. Lol.
