Which Harry Potter book is your favourite? And why?
|
Half-Blood Prince is my favorite book, mainly because it gives you more of a background on both Snape and Voldemort. Ron's fling with Lavendar gave what was a decidedly very dark book (especially given what happens at the end) an amusing twist. |
I really loved all of Harry Potter books but I would say my top fave book was the last one but I did feel sad about the ending |
I do love all the books, but I would have to say that Goblet of Fire was one of my favorites for sure. Getting to know about the other schools and students, as well as learning of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. I also really enjoyed the tasks that came along with the Tournament. That book just seemed so immersive to me, and I quite liked it. |
Deathly hollows because we finally find out the truth about snape |
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire More information about international wizarding schools and epic battles xD |
I would have to say sorcerers stone because i of the excitement and surprise Harry felt. But i would also say deathly hallows Because we learn so much about the history and everything comes together. |
I love all the books, but Prisoner of Azkaban is where I met Sirius, so it will always be my favourite. |
Hey. I adore all the books. It seems to me that at the moment no one in the world has done better. All these books are definitely a masterpiece. |
I love the Half-Blood Prince. The characters are so dynamic in it. I love the budding relationships between Ron & Hermione (although tainted by Lavender Brown) and Harry & Ginny. I also really like Slughorn as a character, so it was great to learn more about him. It was the first book that got me really interested in the potions subject! And of course, the cave scene is just epic. |
My favorite book is Prisoner of Azkaban. We were introduced to the marauders, and I just really enjoyed everything about this book. |
Half Blood Prince, because of all of the background we get on Voldemort and his life as Tom Riddle. |
I think my favorite may be Order of the Phoenix. The details during the battle is amazing. |
my favorite book is prisenor of azkabam becuaswe of sirius and you find out about the marauders |
If I absolutely had to choose Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone would probably be it. It was the book that started it all! We get an amazing introduction into this amazing world and we were left dying for more! We got to experience our first broomstick right and getting our first wand. We even got to see the restricted section of the library (something I wished I could have seen more of!) |
I prefer to binge read them all together. |
I'm torn between Prisoner of Azkaban and the Deathly Hallows... it's so hard to just pick one, normally I mention the whole series as my 'favourite book'. |
HBP. such a good story, finding out about voldy and his horcruxes, the potions book... aw man, great book. |
Prisoner of Azkaban - I read PoA many times. I like Sirius Black :) |
I would say Deathly Hallows because there was so much to learn about the wizarding history and everything just comes together. |
Philosopher's Stone, just because it's so full wonder and Harry's all excited to learn about the magical world and stuff. As opposed to later on when he's basically like "I really wish I wasn't Harry Potter rn bc my life sucks" lol |
Prisoner of Azkaban was the first book I ever read and I think for that reason, it's always been my favorite. It was the book that introduced me to the world of Harry Potter, and thus became my gateway into the entire fandom. If I'd never bothered to read it (or rather had anything else to read - I was 11 years old and had already read all of the books in my AR level at school, so PoA was it, hah!) then I never would've found the same community that made me who I am today. Not to mention there were werewolves, hippogryffs, animagi, and all sorts of cool stuff in book 3. How can you NOT like it? (Also Hermione smacks Draco and that was pretty much the biggest highlight for me outside of Sirius Black's storyline, haha!) |
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix is my favorite Harry Potter book out of the series. I like the feeling of all of the students banding together to make a difference in the face of what seems to be a bad situation growing only worse. I also enjoyed the more adult nature of the book, the themes seemed darker and the stakes seemed higher. Actions truely had consequences (Harry going against the ministry, the dementors coming to Privet Drive, the entire plot about Harry wanting a say in his own destiny) and it felt like our favorite characters were really growing up. Not to mention that there were a couple of sequences in the book that weren't in the movie that I'm impartial to. |
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix is the best in my opinion. The 'revolution' against Umbridge is fascinating to read. |
Azkaban is the best one, its where everything starts getting really serious n spooky XD I cant help but feel order of the phoenix is the weakest book cos it always bugged me about why voldermort didnt just make something else a portkey... |
I just loved to hate Umbridge! |
The Prisoner of Azkaban has always been my favorite book out of the lot. I love how it would go more in depth about Harry's parents. It was also the first time he started to feel like he had a family with Sirius. |
The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite because it was the first book of the series I read, and it was full of hope for Harry’s future. |
I want to say Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite because it was the first book of the series that I read, but I've got to go with the Deathly Hallows because have a lot of respect for how it shocked me. With most series, they eventually develop a pattern and become predictable, but even until the very end, that book threw stuff out of nowhere. |
tough choice between the 1st one that started it all and the goblet of fire. I think the goblet of fire is where the real stories begins, I just feel like 4-7 really build off of the same story line, where as 1-3 each are kind of their own story. But still like them all |
Hbp Favourite book because love the flashbacks and details of Riddle’s beginnings |
I love the Prisoner of Azkaban the most mainly because we meet Sirius and Harry is introduced to a kind of intimacy that he's not well acquainted. |
My favorite book is seventh. I waited a long time for her, received a lot of emotions, sorted every moment. |
Half-Blood Prince because Draco Malfoy tbh. I think we get to see a little more into his life. And I love the relationship growth with Harry and Ginny |
It’s order of the Phoenix for me 🙋🏼*♂️ Originally I voted DH, but in reflection I would say for me it’s ootp. Now I know this is generally unpopular but this was the first book I read and I had No idea just how good and different they are to the films. After seeing voldy return in the film I wanted to find out what happend next. And the rest is history. |
i like deathly hallows the most becuz harrys whole arc completes and also the whole third act was mind blowing. it was a very good conclusion to series. |
Half blood prince - an almost perfect book (in my opinion) because we get to see in-depth character development for the likes of draco, voldemort etc. that have previously been quite one dimensional. My only criticism is the the introduction of felix felicis opens up too many opportunities where it should/could have been used in later plotlines (much like the time turner - it simply makes the scope of the magical world too wide!). |
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because we got to see Sirius Black in this one and while at the beginning we might have thought he was really out to get Harry we learn at the end that Sirius is his Godfather and that he wasn't the one who killed Harry's parents. |
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is my favorite, but I have only watched the movies so far. I plan on reading the books but this is my favorite movie and I am sure it will be my favorite book too because I like when Harry goes into the chamber and fights the Basilisk. |
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite one. |
Goblet of Fire because of the Dark Lord defeating death |
I know when you look at the character of Snape he's horrible - he really is, but even as an 14 year old (thats how old I was when I read the books) I was drawn to him and so the half blood prince became my fave. I loved that we learnt more about Snape. |
I still need to read them so I will let everyone know soon. |
Definitely the first one. Just something about the newness of it all. |
Goblet of Fire for me as the best balance of seriousness and whimsy. It's the point where the childish perspective really starts to give way to a more mature conflict. Plus, there are a lot of memorable characters and scenes. |
I like the frost book it has lot information in it; |
Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book. I am a Sirius Black & Marauder fan. |
Need to I need to read them. I've heard so much about them. Seen all the movies though. |
My favorite book of the series is Prisoner of Azkaban. The first three books are more lighthearted compared to what comes later. The backstory for the Marauders as well as details of what happened the night the Potters were attacted. |
Same as for the favorite film, this one is a great preparation for more grim storyline starting from Goblet of fire. Also it never gets me bored, I could re-read it just after finishing the last page immediately. :D |
Goblet of Fire. Because it's longer than the first three and I like long books. I haven't finished the rest so I don't know about them. |
I really loved the last one because we get to see Harry, Ron and Hermione outside of school and everything gets tied in together. |
Order Of The Phoenix, partly as its the longest and the most content but its a nice blend of fun/magic/drama I agree that the PoA has the most well-rounded plot for the books plus the Marauder's make it a fun book to read as a whole |
Hi there. My favorite one is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I remember the time when I read this book and then watched the movie and it was incredible. I don't know why but the way it was written and the plot affected me a lot :scar: |
I think Harry Potter's Philosopher's Stone is the best-looking. I feel a whole new world has been opened. It's novel and incredible. We are all Muggles. Imagine that the owls will send Hogwarts' admission notice one morning. And the first is the closest to the original. |
Fifth book as had everything what i love about Harry Potter. |
HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Here is why: - Because the book wasn't 700 pages long; - the Weasley twins give Harry the Marauders map; - Harry learns how to perform the Patronus charm; - We have my favorite DADA professor at Hogwarts, Remus Lupin; - Harry gets to meet his godfather and almost gets to live with him; - the time-turner saves more than one life. The whole thing! I love it. |
The intricacy of plot layering and clue leaving and foreshadowing in Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire will FOREVER have me gobsmacked withe AWE. |
While Chamber of Secrets was awesome and Half-Blood Prince captured my heart, nothing beats Goblet of Fire to me. Mainly because of the other schools and watching the interactions of the different wizarding cultures and students |
I can’t pick! If I had to choose it would probably be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, because that’s where the turning point in the series was |
I really love the deathly hallows books, I love the battle scene and the way harry find the horcrux |
Right now, torn between the fifth one and the seventh one. Fifth one because Harry begins to experience different emotions now that Voldemort's back and (because he's growing up). We see more anger, more empathy, more frustration, more 'adult' feelings, I suppose. And then the seventh one because it's the longest (most time spent in the HP universe) and because it's the end... everything comes full circle and is explained beautifully. |
The Chamber of Secrets has always been my favorite ever since I was a kid. I think I’ve read it more than I have any other book in the series. |
This one's actually kind of hard for me. I love Order of the Phoenix for it's complexity with Harry's character, but I love Deathly Hallows for all the action and suspense. Please don't ask me to choose between the two of them!! |
PoA has always been my favourite. I love learning about the Marauders (plus Lupin and Sirius are two of my favourite characters). I guess the movie has a lot to do with my love for the book too, because the feeling/aesthetic that Cuarón managed to create is so fitting to the story that I also get it while reading the book. |
It's kind of a toss up between Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows. I especially love the climax of Order of the Phoenix, but Deathly Hallows shares a special place in my heart because it's the finale of the story, everything falling into place. |
Hallows. I love how it all comes to an end, to see how the characters grew up to adults, to see Harry win against Voldemort. |
Goblet of fire really got my imagining racing when I first read it and I found it impossible to put down. I loved that the focus of it was about the tasks and imagining the gorgeous Fleur, since she was described as so perfect in the book. |
The Goblet of Fire is my favorite book. I enjoyed this book more than I did the other books. |
I'm going through a re-read of the series as an adult now so I may change my mind. But growing up, I really liked Goblet of Fire. When I first got into the series, GoF was just released. So I kept re-reading them and it always ended on book 4 and Voldemort returning, which had such an impact. It wasn't until 3 years later that book 5 came out and I could finally continue the story. So book 4 always stuck with me. I also really like how it broadened the world by introducing us to other schools and the Tri-wizard tournament. Plus the whole mystery aspect of Crouch jr was fascinating. |
Harry Potter and the philosophers stone, because it was the start of the magic |
I loved all of the books and read each of them over and over again, but the one that stood out to me the most was definitely Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire. |
My favoruite is a mix between the Goblet of Fire (because I enjoyed the learning of the other magic schools, am a sucker for ball and I enjoyed the storyline) and the Half Blood Prince (because I enjoyed learning more about Snape) |
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - as that’s where all the magic began! |
Out of all seven, my absolute favorite is "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". In a previous thread, I mention that it is also my favorite movie. Although I love "Deathly Hallows", I have to say that I love "Prisoner of Azkaban" more. It might just be because I considered Lupin a great character, or because the Dementors are so enthralling and fascinating to me. For the first time, I think, you see the true Magical community, you are thrust into a very different situation than before. It starts off with Harry jumping out into the unknown, all of a sudden he's not at the Dursley's anymore - he's run away - and while his little escapade was short lived, it was thrilling. He's alone, in the magical world for a couple of weeks. He is enjoying himself in Diagon Alley, he's actually doing his homework with diligence. This is the most freedom he's had up until this point, so we can see more of the wizarding world. This is also where the story starts to mature, and in many ways the turning point of the story. Yes, Goblet of Fire is the middle of the story and thusly where the story's course changes to that fateful and epic conclusion we see in DH, but it all started with Wormtail's escape at Hogwarts. We have this magnificent backstory about Harry's parents, and we get this glimpse into what his father's family was like. We are introduced to Sirius at last (he is mentioned in the first chapter of PoS, and the name stuck in my head--I wanted to know who he was!) |
It's very, very hard to choose a favorite, so instead I'll talk about some of the things that stand out to me as favorite parts in the series: The entire whimsical, eager tone of adventure and discovery the first book has, the tonal shift and introduction of Sirius and Remus in PoA, and Dumbledore's Army in OotP were all really, really interesting reads, and the reason i draw myself back to those particular books more than the others. For nostalgia's sake, however, it's hands-down Chamber of Secrets, which was the first book I read in the series (it had gotten thrown out for growing mold by our librarian, and I didn't think it was right to throw away a book without reading it so I snatched it from the bin. I was just a tot at the time, and thought reading books from a trash can was perfectly acceptable.) |
I actually love two of them - "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". And of course I love everything which can be related to Harry Potter's theme, like this best harry potter house quiz I could find recently. It asks dozens of really interesting questions, doing some kinda quiz and after passing it - you can really answer yourself are you an expert of Harry Potter's universe, or not :) |
I like the first book because it's kinda an intro to the series and like it's the beggining. Also this might sound weird but I like reading the acceptance letter and school supplies list. I liked the first book because it was the beginning and thats always my favorite part. |
roadtrip Anything that gets us exploring the world outside of Hogwarts is the best. DH is the most appropriate installation. |
I love 'Prisoner Of Azkaban' will always be my favorite, I think mostly because it's a good level of happiness, and an enjoyable school year, before everything starts getting darker. |
HBP is my favourite because I like the plot twist of them finding out who the hbp is! |
Im a big fan of harry potter and goblet of fire. in this book we see many new characters for the very first time and its just facinating |
I like The Prisoner Of Azkaban the most because harry's only living family are rude muggles who hate but when he finds out he has a godfather he feels loved for one of the first times. |
i love all the books but my favorite by far is the deathly hallows. i like it because it is the longest and there is a really cool fight. there is a part with explanations that the movies do not have when harry fights voldemort. |
I voted for the Half-Blood Prince as I think it is the most amusing and it has some serious moments. |
Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book because I really enjoy the ministry battle. This book is also the one where J.K Rowling starts transitioning into darker topics and I find that transition really interesting. |
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because I love the scenes of all the marauders (hence my username) that last scene in woods really got me... |
Chamber of Secrets, 100%. Some unknown force going around paralyzing people (and a ghost and a cat), Harry hearing a creepy voice that no one else can hear, the egotistical duffus Lockhart, everyone thinking that poor Harry is evil. It all ties together for a very interesting and mysterious story. |
I Love the 4th book because of the perspective of different wizard countries and communities . I like the Triwizard tournament and how the trio.deals with Ludo Bagman and Rita Skeeter. I would love to meet Barty Crouch Sr. When he was kind and learning many languages. |
Hmmm I think I'm split between Order of the Phoenix because this was a big turning point in the series when things started heating up and getting serious and we were introduced to so many new characters and plot points. And between Deathly Hallows because everything happening over the last six books finally came together and there were so many amazing twists that just blew my mind lol |
I do absolutely love all of the books, but Deathly Hallows I just seemed to not be able to put the book down once I started and I believe that was the largest of them all. |
the goblet of fire is my favorite book, i thought the tri wizard tournament was cool |
I think I would have to say either Prisoner of Azkaban, due to the real depth added to the story at that point, or Deathly Hallows, as I genuinely find the conclusion of the story to be one of the more satisfactory in fiction. |
In the past, Half-Blood Prince is the one I found myself going back to most often. Even though Order of the Phoenix is my favorite film, I wasn't a huge fan of the original book; it just seemed to be taking things a little too seriously to be enjoyable. I know it was meant to be centered around the ramifications of Voldemort's return, but Half-Blood Prince managed that better without taking such a steep dive in terms of mood and while still portraying all the normal goings-on at Hogwarts. There are other things I like about it too, like how it explored the details of Tom Riddle's backstory, and that it did away with the frustrating element of Harry, Ron, and Hermione suspecting someone of doing something nefarious, only to be proven completely wrong at the end of the year. It was always difficult to stomach that plot thread in the previous books, and I was glad to see Year 6 take a subversive stab at it. |
The first Harry Potter book because thats where Harry finds out he is a wizard! |
Favorite Book Order of the Phoenix is my favorite because they stood up and started to fight together. I really like that they did that. |
I love gore, and the 4th book is where everyone starts to die so even though I'm sad Cedric died, that would be my fave. |
Goblet of fire (for the end!) or half blood Prince cause of all the background we get on Voldermort |
Half blood prince because of Snape AND because it has finally a mystery which reveals something about someone else then Harry or Voldemort |
Definitely PoA. Sirius is introduced to us with such a bang. Its a shame the next major plot critical event he's apart of involves his death. |
