Hermione and Draco are two characters with contrasting personalities. All the better, though, when we think about the phrase "opposites attract", because that statement is very much true.

This is a story about the oddest of pairings in Hogwarts. I have told it from both Hermione and Draco's point of view. Hermione's view will be in red, while Draco's will be in green. Enjoy!

Hermione

The Great Hall rang with applause. I joined the clapping, but only half-heartedly. The Sorting Hat’s song was now laced with darkness. It was my fifth year at Hogwarts, and I wanted to make the best of it. I’d already been to a good start, since I was made a prefect.

Professor McGonagall, standing stiffly and reading names off a scroll, began the sorting. My mind meandered as each new, tottering student was called up. Soon, my eyes were wandering the Great Hall. The Hufflepuffs hadn’t changed much, maybe a new haircut or two, and neither had the Ravenclaws. I noticed Hannah Abbott giggling with her friends and Cho Chang trying to catch Harry’s eye. Gryffindor seemed the same as ever also, with the Weasley twins joking around at the end of the table and Parvati and Lavender curling their eyelashes with their wands.

My eyes rested on the Slytherin table. Nope, they appeared to be the harassing, spiteful group that they usually were. Pansy looked the same, but Malfoy looked a bit different. His face was slightly more angular now, and his hair was longer. And…he was staring right back at me. A weird sensation filled my stomach; not a bad feeling, but not exactly a nice feeling either. He smirked. I glared back at him and quickly turning my attention back to the sorting hat.

Quite a few students were put into Gryffindor, and they were welcomed warmly. I don’t remember ever being that small, but perhaps I used to be. I couldn’t get Malfoy’s smirk out of my mind for the rest of the sorting, something that bothered me greatly.

Once the sorting was finished, Professor Dumbledore rose from his seat to give his yearly speech. I pushed Mafloy’s face out of my head, for the time being anyway, and focused on what our Headmaster had to say about another fantastic year at Hogwarts.

Draco

Throughout Dumbledore’s beginning-of-the-year speech, I kept glancing towards Granger. I don’t know why I was staring at a Mudblood like her, but somehow I couldn’t help it. It seemed like she had grown older this summer. She seemed different somehow.

I couldn’t rip my eyes off her daintily carved face or her brownish curls, nor could I look away from her nut-brown eyes. This behavior angered me to a great extent. I’d never admit that I stared at a Mudblood to anyone, much less Granger.

That’s why I was so taken aback when her eyes met mine. Unsure of how to react, I scowled at her; the opposite of what I felt like doing. Of course, I was used to this so it wasn’t hard to pull off. I could sense her shuddering inwardly.

I tried to ignore this, of course. Soon old man Dumbledore finished his monologue and let us starving pupils eat. I promised myself that I wouldn’t look at her anymore tonight. Beside me, Crabbe and Goyle were stuffing their faces with food. Near me was Pansy Parkinson, who would bat her eyelashes at me every time I looked in her direction (I was looking at the food in front of her, not her). I concluded that I wouldn’t meet any girl’s eye contact for the rest of the night.

I just got back from holidays and checked the posts I had missed. Your gillyweed idea is really brilliant. To use it in a totally different context from the one we know, excellent.
The story is unfolding very nicely indeed.

I love your story sooo much it's absolutely amazing! I always thought draco was mean and everything but in this story i have practically fallen in love with him. and i like the hermione and draco action there...lol keep it up and post soon plllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Hermione

I spotted Draco right away after I submerged. “Wait up!” I cried, but only bubbles came out of my mouth. Draco laughed merrily, swimming towards me. He handed another herb to me.

“Eat it,” he said clearly. “Then you’ll be able to speak normally underwater.”

I didn’t recognize this plant. Giving him a questioning look, I gulped it down and felt the sides of my throat open. “Testing, testing,” I said, and, in fact, it worked.

Draco tried to hold my hand, but was unsuccessful as our fingers were webbed. He resorted to grabbing a hold of my wrist. We swam with our flipper-like feet for what seemed forever, eyes scanning the murky floor. Draco was in the lead and I followed him willingly.

He led us to what looked like ancient ruins. I identified them as the mer village, the one Harry had to visit last year. We sat on a bench, floating up a bit. I could feel Draco’s eyes on me, exploring every part of my body with his lustful eyes.

This time, though, I didn’t mind. Leaning closer to him, I pulled his head closer to mine and kissed him. My hand drew down his neck and I felt his gills, which made me pull away. Draco opened his eyes and looked at me, confused.

“Sorry,” I mumbled. “Your gills just scared me for a moment there.”

He merely chuckled and cupped my face in his hands, pressing his lips softer, then harder and more passionately, on my mouth. It was at that moment that I felt in pure bliss; his body was pressed against mine, pushing me down to lay on the bench. His hands roamed my body almost hungrily.

At that point, I gently pushed him off me. “We should head back,” I suggested giddily.

He nodded vaguely, wrapping an arm loosely around my waist. We ascended to the surface just as our gills and webbed feet were dissolving. “That was nice, wasn’t it?” Draco said, grinning and licking his lips slowly. I nodded and closed my eyes as he gave me a lingering kiss.

Draco

The magic followed me that whole day, from that moment till I fell asleep. I couldn’t stop thinking of Hermione, how she felt under my fingertips, how that smile played across her lips, as if daring me to come closer.

We had walked closely together, as if our bodies were glued, until the stretch with the boulders. After changing, I gathered Hermione into my arms, burying my face in her wet tendrils. She pulled away from me, but I could see the reluctance in her eyes.

“We can’t do this, you know, when the others are around,” she whispered to me, eyes downcast. “It would raise too much…speculation.”

Her statement crashed me back to reality. I only nodded solemnly, wincing on the inside. Of course we couldn’t display obvious acts of attraction in front of the whole school. What would people think if they saw Granger and Malfoy kissing? I didn’t even want to think about it.

Awesome post!! Yeah, I'd go crazy if I saw Draco kissing Hermy. Partly because it's an unlikely couple (though I ship it) and partly because he's kissing someone else. PAMS!
