Mission Accomplished Neville's stomach clenched at the thought of what they were about to do. Sweat ran into his eyes. As he wiped it away, he noticed that his hands shook. He led the way toward the Great Hall, Seamus and Hannah at his heels. They were so close now and thus far, there had been no sign of the Carrows or any of their Slytherin henchman. Hannah took her post at the entrance to the Great Hall, keeping watch. Keeping close to the wall, Neville and Seamus skirted the house tables and made their way to the dias at the back of the hall. "Make this quick, mate." Seamus said, his eyes darting nervously toward the entrance. Neville could see that Seamus was just as scared as he was which in an odd way, gave him a bit more courage. Nodding once, he whispered a spell Fred and George Weasley had taught him, and his wandtip ignited. In huge glowing acid green letters, he wrote "Dumbledore's Army, Still Recruiting" behind the professor's table. The words, written so large that they stretched the entire length of the dias, would burn for 3 days before finally fading. Despite his fear, Neville smiled. Oh, the Death Eaters were not going to like this, not one bit. Neville surveyed his work for a second more then turned to Seamus. "It's done. Let's go." |
A New Hope The next morning, all of Hogwarts was astir over the graffiti hanging in the Great Hall. Student's stifled giggles as the Carrows tried in vain to make the large glowing letters fade. A few of the other professors made half-hearted attempts as well, but as Neville had known they would be, all of their efforts were futile. The Weasley twins had guaranteed the letters would burn for three days, and Neville had no doubt that they would do just that. No one knew who had written the words there, and it was even whispered that perhaps Fred and George had found a way into Hogwarts and were even now planning a reign of terror that would make all their other pranks combined pale by comparison. Neville walked a little taller when he heard that, unable to hide his pride. They had taken a terrible risk, he knew, and would surely pay for it in the end, but it had been worth it to see the spark of hope it had ignited in the other students. As he made his way toward Herbology, he saw Hannah waiting for him outside the greenhouse. She had worn her long, blonde hair loose and the cold made her cheeks rosy. He thought she looked like a Christmas angel. When he reached her, she smiled at up at him, her eyes dancing with excitement. "Have you heard? The whole school is talking about it!" Hannah bounced on the balls of her feet, hardly able to contain herself. "Shh, yes, but keep your voice down. They are saying that it is the work of the Weasley twins returned." Neville could not suppress his grin. Hannah looked up at him and his heart gave a little leap. She was smiling, but there was something in her eyes that made his heart hammer. "You..I don't think the Weasley twins could have done any better." Hannah said. Taking his hand in hers, she led him into the greenhouse for the start of the lesson. |

I am flattered, humbled and touched by all my readers and appreciate all your comments. The story will unfortunately wrap up soon but you have all made it a pleasure to write. Stay tuned for a little romantic entanglment, and some more adventures. If you are a DA member, you know I wrote a few poems related to the story: 2 love poems, one G/H and one N/L, in the poetry thread there. They aren't all that good, but they are story related. :glomp: Thank you for staying loyal. I want to finish the story before the baby arrives, so wish me luck. |

Teaser. The D.A. continued to meet sporadically, sharing information and congratulating each other on successful missions. So far, none had been caught and Neville hoped their good fortune would continue. All of the students at Hogwarts (except perhaps, the Slytherins) seemed less fearful than before. Neville felt in his heart that they could probably accomplish no more than this, but it was enough. He was as determined to rally his fellow students as the Carrows were to break them. Just before All Hallows Eve, Ginny called a meeting of the D.A. She had wanted to plan something truly spectacular, but had refused to share with him what it was. To tell the truth, he was a little on edge about it. Ginny was so brave, willing to risk anything for what she believed and what she wanted. Sometimes her daring made him more than a little nervous. Now she wanted to involve the entire D.A. in a "special mission" on the one night when surely everyone would be on the highest alert. Would it really be worth the risk of being exposed? He wasn't so sure, but he was willing to listen. Ginny had proven to be a brilliant tactician and he was sure whatever she had planned would be unforgettable. |
hehehe!waiting for more!Go Ginny!!! |
oh the shiftyness!:shifty: I think I have a hunch on what this big thing is, but I won't say what my hunch it...I mean, there's little chance that I'm right, but I don't wanna be a spoiler!xD |

Plots and Plans When Neville entered the Room of Requirement, Ginny and Seamus were waiting for him. A large wooden table stood in the center of the room piled high with rolled maps. Ginny had one spread out on the table and motioned for him to join her. "I have asked each of the teams to meet me at different times so that no one but me knows the whole plan or what the other teams are doing. Where is Hannah?" Ginny asked, glancing back at the door. "She has detention," Neville said, grimacing, "I'll have to fill her in later." Ginny gave a sympathetic nod and turned back toward the map. "You are most familiar with the grounds around the greenhouses, so you and your team will take that area." Ginny said, pointing to the map. This map showed the grounds of Hogwarts and all it's outlying buildings, and Ginny's finger rested on an area near the greenhouses. "Let me show you what I have in mind." Ginny hefted a large, lurid green sack marked with a huge purple W onto the wooden table as she said this. Neville smiled despite himself. He could only imagine what kind of scheme Ginny had managed to cook up with her twin brothers. Whatever it was she was about to show him, one thing was certain--this Halloween was going to be unforgettable. an: I apologize for the wait. My computer has been down but I come bearing chapters. Enjoy! |
Strange Sensations Neville did not see Hannah until the following morning at breakfast. He cringed at the sight of her swollen lips and bruised cheek. He longed to go to her and comfort her but he knew the Carrows were watching. The dark shadows under her eyes bespoke of her long ordeal. She kept her head down and after awhile Neville gave up any hope of catching her eye. He turned dejectedly back to the breakfast growing cold on his plate. He knew frustratingly little about Ginny's grand plan. He knew only that a large quantity of fireworks were involved. He and his team would be setting up a few near the greenhouses before the feast on Halloween. He was burning with curiosity but Ginny would not tell him more. If any of them were caught and forced to tell what they knew, the plan could still be carried out, only slightly modified. Only Ginny knew the whole of it. Neville's gaze strayed once more to Hannah. Luna was sitting next to her now, petting her shoulder and whispering encouragingly to her. A sudden stab of jealousy went through him then was gone. Strangely, he wasn't sure exactly who he was jealous of. The thought troubled him and he turned away from them, the vision of Luna with her pale blonde hair and sweet smile comforting Hannah still with him. |
A Confused Heart Neville was troubled the rest of the day which made him unusually moody. He went through his classes automatically, not really seeing or hearing anything that went on around him. Ginny sat next to him at lunch and tried to draw him out but only ended up exasperated with him and turned to chat with Lavender Brown instead. She eyed him several times afterward, but only frowned at him and said nothing. He saw Hannah again in Herbology, surrounded by a small knot of Hufflepuff girls. She met his eyes and gave him a small brave smile which only made him feel worse. He smiled back at her but did not go over to talk to her, telling himself that she wasn't alone and that he could talk to her later. She frowned at him a little once or twice during the lesson but did not come over to him. When the lesson was over, she left with the other Hufflepuff girls. Neville was both relieved and peeved by this and his mood grew darker. At the end of the day, he was avoiding everyone and snapping at anyone who dared speak to him. Confused and angry with himself, he took the stairs up to the boys' dormitory two at a time and threw himself down on his bed. He didn't have time for this, he told himself though he wasn't sure exactly what this was. He wished with all his heart that he had someone to talk to. A vision of Luna popped into his head and he pushed it away angrily. She was the last person he wanted to talk to about this. But why? Frustrated, he rolled over onto his back and stared up the bed canopy. Thinking, and trying very hard not to, Neville closed his eyes. Visions of Luna and Hannah played before his eyes, smiling at him. They laughed, tossing their hair and blowing kisses at him. Neville groaned and sat up, rubbing his eyes to rid himself of the image. Maybe he should just stay busy, he thought, reaching for his schoolbag. He groaned again when he realized he had not written down a single assignment all day. Feeling like he was surely losing his mind, he got up to go find Seamus so he could get a copy of his assignments. He wondered if maybe he should talk to Seamus, but rejected the idea as too embarrassing. Besides, what would he say? |
