Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.
In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.
Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!
See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.
Text Cut: example post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?
The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.
⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.
⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!
⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You do not have to RP to get your wand, but it is highly encouraged as a part of enriching your RP experience.
⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.
⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.
⌦ If you have any questions, feel free to PM sweetpinkpixie or one of the Diagon Alley Proprietors, and they'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as they can.

The words in turn made him think about his own hunger for far more experience with the cello. Also, just how old was that tape?!
Devad tugged his mind away from all distractions with great difficulty to track the man’s movements. It fascinated him, the way things were thoughtfully pondered upon before a box was selected. He felt a sudden surge of excitement course through his veins. Could this be his wand? Though chances of finding the right one on the first try were probably immensely slim…
“Okay! Here goes.” Though he seized the lovely looking wand quite confidently with his right hand, it was a feeble flick with which he managed to perform. The wand definitely thought so too due to the manner in which it reacted. It suddenly grew very hot to the touch. “OW!” Devad immediately dropped it onto the counter to examine his palm and fingers. To his surprise, everything seemed to be normal. And the stinging had already stopped. “Very odd.” Dev squinted at the wand then leveled his gaze at the shopkeeper. “It basically burnt me for a second.” His tone was full of wonder. “But you wouldn’t think that anything happened. Look.” He flipped his hand, palm side up.
It was quite clear that particular wand was not for him.
Victor's brows lifted at the boy's sudden exclamation, his attention immediately dropping to his hand rather than the wand ― though he did flinch at the sound of wood clinking against wood. His gaze moved carefully over the palm, then to the fingers, before returning to the wand resting on the counter. "Hmmmmm..."
He reached for the wand with a folded handkerchief rather than his bare fingers, just in case, turning it once between thumb and forefinger before returning it to its box. "Wandlore has a great deal of strangle little mysteries in it, though we can agree that burning the prospective owner is a rather poor way to introduce oneself."
A soft chuckle escaped him as he set the box aside and turned toward the shelves again and selected a new potential. "Let us try someone who has a little less... fuego," he nodded, presenting the boy with wand numero dos.

No harm done as it was clear that the more exciting aspect of this process was just about to start. “So,’’ Ciara began conversationally after politely greeting the adult. “If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know which wand that could potentially be mine?” Did the wand whisper some finding to him? Did they somehow share a telepathic link, if such were possible with an inanimate object?
“Oh wow. That is one pretty wand!” Could it possibly be hers? Fingers and toes crossed! Cee’s eyes narrowed slightly at the other words. Perform? But what was life without it? She grinned nevertheless. “I shall try not to.” Okay. Right. It was time to get serious. Being right handed, this was the hand used to lift the wand out of the box. It was given a graceful and confident wave.
A loud and rude sound filled the shop, leaving Cee to make the most disgusted of faces. Just what was the sound? The one that made when one stuck their tongue between their lips and blew. A raspberry. A fart. She was highly unimpressed and disgusted, which was why the wand was returned to the box.
“Thank you. Next.”
Victor's smile deepened slightly at the question. "Ah, that is an excellent question...and one that does not have a simple answer." His gaze flicked toward the towering shelves. "Wandmaker learns to notice certain things ... unique quirks and personalities with each wood, core, and construction that then lead to little peculiarities of each wand. Your measurements and temperament can give me somewhere to begin, but ultimately…" He tapped his cheek lightly. "The wand has the final word. Claro?"
And then the raspberry sounded.
Victor's expression remained admirably composed for perhaps half a second before the corner of his mouth betrayed him.
"Well," he said, reaching forward to retrieve the wand, "that sounded very much like the sound my son makes in protest of naptime."
He inspected it briefly before returning it to its box, shaking his head with quiet amusement. He set that box aside and turned toward the shelves.
"Next it is then." His hand travelled along the rows of boxes, pausing thoughtfully here and there before climbing the ladder and reaching for another box that was just out of reach from the floor. "Perhaps this one will match your temperament better ― or at least have better manners."

For him, it was like a mini show - the tape zooming all around, it eventually settling down neatly… he rather liked it all! Speaking of ‘like’... Baek instantly warmed up to the shopkeeper. Yes, he liked this adult; the man had comforting vibes. One would always be safe around him. The chuckle, the smile, the words - everything spoke volumes in a positive light about him.
“Hopefully they are!” Baek replied, nodding his head then doing an excited little wiggle. He said no more though. Mr. Wand Man was clearly concentrating and taking his time with selecting the bestest possible wand for him. The little guy could already feel the gratitude for that bubbling up within.
“Understood.” With another wiggle, Baek reached out with his right hand. His fingers carefully and gently wrapped around the handle. He immediately noted how comfortable it felt in his hand, how it seemed to fit perfectly like one of those gloves his eomeoni got him that always pulled snuggly over his small hands. The object was given a small curve wave - shaped like a smile.
A mesmerising cluster of bubbles sprang forth - transparent and about two dozen times the size of a regular one. Baek’s mouth formed a small ‘O’ of surprise. He just did that! Wowzah! The bubbles floated all around and what was special was that they didn’t pop. Not even when they collided with objects. “Um…” His eyes followed one of the bubbles that had only just bumped into a wand box. “I don’t think those are going away anytime soon, Mister. But I like this wand! It feels like a good friend!’’ Not that he had many of those. Friends, that is.
Victor's attention stayed on the floating bubbles for a moment, his expression softening into quiet pride as one drifted lazily past his shoulder. "Well," he murmured, reaching out to tap one gently with the back of a knuckle, causing it to wobble away in the opposite direction, "I suppose that is one way for a wand to make its intentions known."
He looked back to the boy, then to the wand in his hand, and there was a particular warmth in his smile now ― like watching his children first begin to crawl. "And yes, pequeño, I think you may be right. A match does feel rather like a good friend, doesn't it?" Victor stepped closer, examining the wand again before gesturing for the boy to keep hold of it. "Your new friend is a 12 ¾" sturdy poplar with griffin claw core and seems your new rather enthusiastic about bubbles. We'll have to make sure you learn how to dismiss them before you decide to fill the Great Hall with them."
Or... perhaps not. He would rather like to hear through Marina's letters how certain professors responded to such innocent chaos.
"Poplar has a reputation for being a very dependable wand wood. It tends to suit people who have a strong sense of what they believe is right and wrong — people who hold to their principles once they've decided where they stand. It is also quite versatile, so you won't be boxed into one particular kind of magic as you grow." His brows lifted slightly. "Your wand has a griffin claw core, which tends to favour dexterity and finesse. Protective magic and shielding should come naturally to you as well... and will favor small movements, just like you performed just now."
Another bubble floated between them, as if on cue. Victor glanced at it, then back at him with a chuckle.
"Will it just be the wand today? Or perhaps the wand and one of our bundles that includes a holster, polish, and conditioning oil ― which we recommend for first time wand owners, like yourself."

Victor caught the measuring tape neatly as it returned to the counter, giving it a brief glance as though checking that it had not missed anything important. He set it down, then turned his attention to the boy, catching the boy's barely-contained excitement with an amused smile. “Claro, claro.”
He stepped away from the counter, making his way toward the shelves until he reached the ladder and climbed, eyes moving thoughtfully over the boxes until he selected a narrow box from somewhere around the middle row.
Climbing back down, Victor opened the box and revealed the wand nestled inside to the young hopeful. "Go ahead and try this one, let your fingers settle where they naturally want to. Then give it a small wave."
Biting his lip waiting, he looked curiously as the wand worker made his way around the shop looking for what might be the perfect wand for him. Holding his breath he let it out softly as he came back down with a wand box in his hand. Taking the wand letting it settle where his fingers were supposed to be he let out a small wave but soon jumped back as boxes came down along with what seems to be quills and parchment. Looking at his parents and then the wand maker he shook his head and blushed.
"I don't think this one is the one sir, sorry for the mess." Looking around a beet red at the mess he made, oh Merlin he wasn't the only one who did this right? Surely he wasn't, had to be others who made worst mess then he did, but didn't mean he didn't feel bad about it.

Victor's eyebrows rose at the sudden cascade of parchment and quills, but it wasn't anything that a quick flick of his wand couldn't fx. Soon the scattered supplies drifted neatly back toward their proper places, quills settling into their container and parchment stacked themselves with a soft shuffle. He glanced over the boy, taking in the unmistakable blush, before offering him an easy smile.
"Hey, none of that." Victor gave the wand box a gentle tap with two fingers. "You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. If every wand behaved perfectly on the first attempt, I would have a remarkably boring job."
He retrieved the wand carefully, turning it once between his fingers before returning it to its box. He stepped back toward the shelves, considering them for a moment. He reached toward one of the higher shelves, fingers hovering between several boxes before settling on one. Turning back to the wand hopeful, Victor opened the box and presented it to the kid.
"Let's try again, shall we? No need to be nervous. You're not being graded.”

Victor's attention settled on the little girl as the measuring tape completed its work and returned to him. He caught it in one hand, giving it a brief glance before setting it carefully aside. His gaze flicked toward the girl, catching the quiet anticipation in her expression without making a fuss over it. He had worked with enough first-time wand buyers to know that excitement did not always need to be announced loudly - and sometimes it was the polite thing to not draw too much attention to it, as was the case with his own daughter... or else risk fireworks later.
"Well," he said, approaching the shelves, "I suppose we should see whether we can find you something pretty."
That would be one to tell the wife about.
Victor reached for the ladder and climbed, scanning the shelves and pulling himself along towards the window. One box was pulled forward, considered, and pushed back into place. And then another, and another, and another. Finally, his hand settled on a box tucked farther back, and he drew it free before climbing back down carried it to her.
"Here we are." Victor opened the box, revealing the wand within, and angled it so she could see it properly before offering it to her. "Just hold it naturally and see what happens."
At once, when the shopkeeper announced he’d find her something pretty, Xelene’s gaze stayed on him. Crystal blue eyes followed his every movement, like a kitten, tracing a swaying ribbon in the air and preparing to pounce for it. Xelene wasn’t about to pounce on the man, but she would on the wand box if it looked pretty enough.
It was a little disappointing when she wasn’t handed a sparkling rose colored box. Her sister had told her the boxes in the shop were basic and simply served as storage and protection of a wand, but Serena had also said carrots were yummy and that was a big, fat LIE. Unfortunately, she was correct this time.
Biting the inside of her cheek, the young girl gently picked up the wand with her index finger and thumb. She examined it before setting it into her left hand and holding it “naturally”.
Poof…poof…poof.
Swampy colored puffs of smoke wafted from the tip of the wand and-- OH MERLIN. That smelled worse than mooncalf dung! Xelene quickly set the wand back, her nose scrunched up, thoroughly offended.
EWWWWWWW! Uh UHHHH. That was not her wand!

"Ah, sí," he nodded, glancing back to the boy before he was walking towards the shelves. Victor moved along the bottom for a bit, then summoned the ladder to him to climb higher, then back to the ground again, before finally selecting a box and returning to the boy's side. "Go ahead and give it a gentle flick."
A smile creeped into Angel’s lips at the shopkeeper's response. He glanced back at his mom, who was whispering to her dad, then they both turned and smiled at him. Did she hear the man? It sounded like there was a bit of their language here. That was cool.
He returned his attention when he heard the man. “A…gentle flick,” he repeated. He had no idea what that meant, but okay. Here he goes.
Seeming more confident than he actually felt, Angel scooped up the wand and waved it in an arc. As he did, a stream of golden, crackling fireworks followed its trajectory. He ooh’ed. This was better than a sparkler! He liked it! Was this a good sign? Could he keep it? Or did he have to try more?

Her first stop upon arriving at Diagon Alley had to be to get her wand. Annika knew it couldn’t go any other way, considering she had wanted her wand for ages now. Even though there was always the distraction that was going on trips with mum, but they were in London now for a while because she was about to start going to Hogwarts. Mum had allowed her to wander for the time being, with the promise that she’d meet her at the ice cream shop when lunch time rolled around, and she had made a beeline for the wand shop. Other shops could wait.
The small brunette, hair in twin braids to keep it off her neck, had been humming a song to herself while she worked her way up in the queue, but before long she found herself at the front and facing off with the magical measuring tape. After a moment, she paused in her humming long enough to wonder exactly how many different measurements were needed in order to find her wand. She ought to have asked Mum, Dad, or any number of her other relatives who had also gone through this way in the past.
It was when she’d nearly gone cross-eyed in her attempt to follow the tape as it moved that she gave up on wondering.

Devad may have missed the flinch from the Shopkeeper due to the fact that his attention was on his palm. Still, it weighed heavily on his mind that he had suddenly dropped it onto the counter. But now that the danger was gone, he fixed the man with a sheepish look. “Awfully sorry about that.” He gestured at the handkerchief, the box and of course - the wand. “I didn’t mean to treat the wand so poorly.” He really hoped it wasn’t damaged in any way.
There was a soft laugh from him. “Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Wandlore is quite fascinating.” Maybe a little too complicated for his brain right now but at least he could appreciate the subject. He wiggled his fingers a little then accepted the new wand. There was a different feel to this one, Dev felt that immediately - light and oh so comfy. He gave it a graceful wave. A silvery, grey-ish light bloomed from the wand’s tip. Then it shifted to light blue, followed by what looked like sunshine yellow. It was mesmorising, the way each bit of coloured light appeared for a few seconds then merged into something else.
“This is definitely the one!” Er… how did he stop the light?

Ciara was absolutely pleased the helpful man thought so! She always aimed to ask sensible questions. The exception was when she was in the presence of her siblings and parents. With them, she got to be as silly as she liked, especially with Tee and her daddy. And because she was genuinely interested in the answer, she listened with rapt attention. “I think I understand,’’ Cee remarked, letting the words soak into the crevices of her brain. “There really are a lot of factors that go into this entire process, aren’t there?” It was a realisation in that moment - and also a moment of revelation where she was certain that she wouldn’t be able to handle wandlore. “Muy claro.”
Especially since she was a little miffed at this first wand that had the nerve to raspberry her! Hmph! She flicked her head, tossing the long curly strands over her shoulder. “That’s a rude wand, towards me at least,” Ciara commented, choosing to ignore the beginnings of the man’s smile. She didn’t blame him, truthfully. As a matter of fact, she had expected the entire shop to erupt in laughter. “That sound coming from your little one would sound extremely cute, I’m guessing.” It was her turn to wear twitching lips.
Fingers and toes crossed that wand two would bring a better experience!
“Let’s see what’s in store,’’ Cee remarked brightly, already stuffing the recent happening mentally out of sight. And so the present one was waved. As she did so, she couldn’t help but record the ease and grace with which this was done. Out of nowhere, there came a familiar sound - not another raspberry, thank the angles -, the sound associated with those muggle cat videos, where the cats are waving their paws to ‘cast spells’ or send good vibes - magic wand or magic chime, Cee believed it was called. And that’s how she knew that the wand had chosen hers. First, she felt the good vibes, then the magical sound cemented it. She positively beamed now.
“There wouldn’t be a need for a next,’’ she announced, a giddy excitement bubbling up within her.

Beak remained utterly transfixed by the bubbles. Maybe he could recreate them at Hogwarts! Just the thought of that sent him wiggling some more. The Shopkeep’s made him giggle again. “Isn’t it? I rather like this way!” Perhaps bubbles would be the competition to his love for flowers. “It does. It’s a lovely feeling.” Baek nodded earnestly. His smile only widened as he devoured - figuratively speaking, obviously - every detail about his new buddy as they were narrated to him. “He sounds wonderful!” Baek exclaimed before laughing. “I’ll make sure I learn the proper counterspell.” He couldn’t promise to learn it quickly though. So perhaps Mr. Shopkeep really would hear about this escapade of Baek’s at Hogwarts!
The eleven year old fell silent as he mulled over the other details. “My eomeoni has always tried her best to teach me right from wrong, and I try my best to learn.” The latter was said modestly. ”Perhaps it senses my attempts.” And the other aspects of the wand? “Wow. That’s all very… spectacular. I already know this wand is going to help me do my best when it comes to spellwork.”
Wiggle, wiggle.
Oh hey there, bubble! Baek watched it briefly. “Oh… I think I’ll take the bundle since you recommend it.” It did not cross his mind that there was the possibility he could be swindled into buying a bundle just because the Shopkeep wanted to get a sale of unnecessary products out of him. Since the man was so nice, such depravity must be out of the question. Such naivety from the little Baek.

Victor watched the swamp colored smoke curl lazily from the wand's tip, and for a moment his nose wrinkled despite himself. He had encountered some creative wand rejections over the years, but not many of them came with such pungent repercussions.
"Ah," he said, reaching for wand and returning it to the box. He carefully closed the lid, giving the box a sympathetic pat before setting it aside. "No harm done. And, fortunately, the smell will not be following you home and I find that a little squirt of lemon juice into your shampoo helps erase whatever remnants might."
Pursing his lips, Victor moved to the shelves behind the counter and danced his fingers over the Ollivander's labels adorning them. He eventually pulled a deep eggplant purple one box from the shelf and brought it back to her, lifting the lid for her to try again.
"Let's see how you and this one get along."

Victor's attention followed the stream of golden sparks as they traced the boy's wand movement, his brows lifting and teeth showing while he grinned as the last of the fireworks crackled away.
"Sí, sí, sí. I do believe we have a match. Particularly if we take that smile into consideration."
He reached out, not quite taking the wand from the boy, but turning it gently between his fingers so he could examine the wood more closely. It had a healthy warmth to it, and there was already the faintest suggestion of a lustre along its length. Victor's thumb brushed lightly over the grain before he handed it back.
"13¼ strong maple with jobberknoll feather." He paused, considering the pairing. "Maple likes someone who wants to do things. Learn things. Go somewhere, discover something, become better than they were yesterday. It is not particularly fond of standing still for too long." There was a glimmer of amusement in his expression. "And this is a wand that can be rather demanding about that. If its owner becomes complacent, it has been known to become equally uncooperative. But when it is happy, maple has a lovely little habit of showing it. The wood develops a shine of its own. Sometimes it will even seem to glow."
He let that sit for a moment before continuing, his smile warming with each word he imparted. "The jobberknoll feather complements it nicely. It tends toward clever, cerebral magic, particularly Charms, and it has a natural affinity for non-verbal spellwork. It also has an excellent memory, which makes it a rather useful companion for someone who intends to learn a great deal."
Victor took a couple of strides back towards the counter.
"Will it just be the wand today?"

Victor caught the measuring tape neatly as it fluttered back toward him, giving it an almost fondly exasperated glance before allowing it to coil itself away. He then turned his attention to the small brunette waiting nearby, offering her an easy smile.
"Wait there just a moment..." he instructed while tapping his chin, shuffling over toward the shelves on the opposite side of the shop with his next breath. His fingers paused over one box before moving on and eventually pulled out the fourth one his hand hovered over. "Let's start here."
He returned to the girl and opened the box, revealing the wand nestled inside as he angled the box toward her.
"Your dominant hand, please. Pick it up naturally. And then we'll see what it has to say."

Victor's expression eased at Devad's apology, and he gave a small shake of his head. "No harm done. Truly." There was a touch of amusement in his voice as he glanced toward the first box. "And it is perfectly intact without a scratch, so you needn't worry."
His attention returned to the wand as the silvery light shifted into blue and then gold, and this time Victor didn't merely watch the effect. He watched the boy and the way his hand held the wand, the ease of the movement, the complete lack of resistance between boy wizard and his potential.
"Sí," he smiled, wide smile spreading across his features.
He stepped closer, though he didn't interrupt the display, letting the colours continue to gather and change at the wand's tip."14 ¾ rather firm walnut with unicorn hair. Walnut is a rather clever wood. It has a particular fondness for intelligent, ambitious minds, especially those who enjoy combining creativity with understanding. It rewards focus and intention, and it can be remarkably versatile in the right hands."
Victor glanced toward the still shimmering light and chuckled.
"And unicorn hair gives it a steadier, more faithful nature. It tends toward Charms, Transfiguration, and healing magic, and it prefers finesse to brute force. It isn't necessarily the wand that will make the largest bang in the room, but it is remarkably consistent once it has bonded with its owner."
Victor looked away from the colourful magic still hovering around them and gave a quiet chuckle while running a hand through his hair. "You can lower your hand and let the magic dissipate naturally or try giving it another flick. It should respond to your intent now that you have been proper acquainted."

Victor's smile widened at the little chime, and he gave a soft, satisfied nod. "Claro," he agreed. "I don't think there will be a need for a next one either."
He watched the wand settle in the girl's hand for another moment, paying attention to the ease of the movement and the magical response that followed. There was none of the resistance from the first attempt. Instead, the wand seemed almost eager to answer her, the lingering chime fading gently through the shop.
"13½ stiff hornbeam with dragon heartstring from a Swedish Short-Snout," he explained. "Hornbeam is a fascinating wood. It tends to choose people with a strong sense of purpose... visionary sorts, people who find something they care about and then put their whole heart into mastering it." His gaze lifted briefly toward her, an approving glimmer in his eyes. "It is also particularly good at defensive magic. And once a hornbeam wand has bonded with someone, it becomes remarkably personalized to their magic. It learns its owner's habits very quickly."
Perhaps one of his favorite woods, if he were forced to pick. Top five at least.
"The dragon heartstring is a core with plenty of oomph and the potential to quickly master new spells with. It does tend to prefer decisive spellwork over delicate, subtle magic, so you may find that it responds especially well when you know exactly what you want it to do."
He offered the box again for her to return the wand to ― at least for the time being while they took care of the matter of payment.
"Now, before we settle everything up, will it just be the wand today, or would you like a holster and some basic wand care supplies as well?"

Victor's smile softened as the boy spoke of his mother, though there was the briefest flicker of curiosity at the formal language. He made a mental note of it, filed it away alongside the countless little differences in how children addressed their families, and thought nothing more of it. The boy had been unfailingly polite throughout their fitting, and that was perhaps an indication of things. "Look at that, understanding one another already,” he hummed, giving a small nod toward the wand still nestled comfortably in the boy's hand. "A wand doesn't only respond to what you can already do... it also responds to what you're willing to become."
He reached out, gently catching one of the wandering bubbles with the back of his knuckle before it could drift into a stack of boxes. "The wand itself will be eleven Galleons and the bundle is eight," he explained as he gathered the conditional oil and polish, setting them neatly beside the box. "And you can choose whichever holster is most comfortable for you between the wrist, ankle, or hip options."

Xelene did not hesitate to return the smelly wand. She felt slightly relieved to hear the smell wasn’t going to follow her home--
Wait. A squirt of lemon into her shampoo…for remnants…
The color drained out of her face, her jaw dropping. So…she wasn’t going to smell, but she might smell a little bit like mooncalf dung? She loves her mooncalves, but she did NOT want her hair to smell like their waste.
She shot her family a brief, startled glance. Her dad has his lips pursed, her mum and sister shared twin concerned looks. Xelene was confident her dad could come up with a potion to solve this issue. Lemon would dry out her hair, no? Oh, her haiiiiir.
Looking back at the shopkeeper, a slight pout on her lips, she hesitated before taking the newly offered wand. The box was a nice shade of purple. That had to be a good sign…?
Gently taking the wand, she instinctively shut her eyes and gave it a shy wave in the air as she held her breath. It wasn’t until she heard a soft crackle that she opened her eyes. In front of her was a stream of glowing sparks. She gasped and smiled widely at the man and at her family. Did they see how dreamy these sparks were?! Like stars!

The homemade leather holster and the wand care kit his grandfather had gifted him was enough. Unlike a certain cousin of his (Xelene) that will go the whole nine yards. Not that he was jealous. Victor's expression softened at the sight of the girl's reaction, particularly after the rather unfortunate first attempt.
"Maravillosa," he said quietly, watching the glowing sparks continue to drift from the wand's tip. He let the moment breathe for another few seconds before stepping closer, studying the wand and then the girl's grip. "The wand was a 11½-inch pliant holly with a Snidget feather core. Holly is a protective wood," he explained, gesturing lightly toward the wand as the last of the sparks faded. "It has a natural affinity for defensive and healing magic, and it tends to do particularly well when working with magical creatures. It's also a wood with a rather fiery temperament of its own, so it can be an excellent companion for someone who has a little... fire in them."
His eyes flicked away from the wand and settled on the girl. "The Snidget feather makes it an especially responsive wand. It is rather rare, as the feathers are donated by sanctuaries rather than harvested, and the wands made with them tend to be wonderfully consistent. Charms and defensive magic should come naturally, particularly spells involving evasion." A small smile appeared as he straightened and rubbed the back of his neck while his thoughts drifted ever so briefly to his daughter. "So... if you ever find yourself needing to get out of trouble quickly, I suspect this little one may prove quite useful."
Not that he was endorsing mischief, of course.
"Now, let's make certain we get you properly equipped. Your wand comes with the standard box and your choice of a wrist, ankle, or hip holster. We also have polish, conditioning and strengthening oils as part of some standard care bundles if you'd like to keep everything together."

Victor's smile grew at the boy's enthusiasm. "I'm glad to hear it," he replied, giving the wand a small, approving glance. "And I think it has rather made its feelings about you clear as well."
He gathered the wand box and moved toward the counter, listening as the kid explained that he already had a holster and a care kit waiting at home. "Then just the wand it is. No sense in sending you home with things you've already got. Though your fitting does comes with a holster included, so perhaps one for a different part of your body may be a fun addition."
Which was, perhaps, the wrong thing to say as a business owner who should be stressing sales and the benefit of having backups for your backups.
"Your total comes to 10 Galleons."

Her dark blue eyes had followed the measuring tape as it had zipped off in the direction of, she assumed, the shopkeeper. The measuring tape’s master, if she wanted to look at it more fantastically. It made Annika wonder if the tape was owned by the person or the shop, but she held the curiosity inside. It wasn’t as if it was important anyway. As long as the tape had gotten whatever it had been measuring, and she had returned the easy smile of said shopkeeper before he had shuffled off to, hopefully, retrieve her wand. He had definitely looked like he was considering something.
The fact she could see his hand passing over one box after another seemed to say he’d gotten something from the tape, anyway. Did it mean something that he’d considered four wands before returning to her? She hoped it didn’t mean anything bad. Just that she had necessitated more consideration. Not that she was confusing, of course.
“Okay”, she said in response to his words upon returning, tilting her head to one side as he had angled the box her way. It was definitely a wand in there. She thought for a moment, then reached her right hand out to delicately grasp the handle of the wand. Wondering if it had been like this when her parents had gotten their wands. If it had felt like coming home. Like warmth.
“It says something?”, she asked softly, lightly waving it experimentally. It still felt like it belonged. “It feels like it’s home?”, she added after a moment. Did that make sense?
