I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Both books and films. I started following the film series a bit late, with the third film in 2004, and I always admired the amazing craft with the series. My problem is that I believe the series were quite overlooked in some categories. This is where I believe the films should have been nominated:

2001 – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Nominated for: Production Design, Costume Design, Score.
Should also be nominated for: Makeup and Cinematography. Cinematography is a longshot for sure, but the Makeup one is an obvious miss.

2002 – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
No nominations.
Should be nominated: Production Design and Visual Effects. The art was just amazing, and the Visual Effects were quite nice with the use of improved CGI and animatronics.

2004 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Nominated for: Visual Effects, Score.
Should be nominated: AGAIN, where is Production design? Where? This is the category where HP should be subscribed for.

2005 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Nominated for: Production Design (FINALLY!)
Should be nominated: Visual Effects, Makeup and Costume Design. IF there were 5 nominees for VFX, the film was a lock, but it also had great makeup and costumes.

2007 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
No nominations.
Should be nominated: Only Production Design. Honestly this one did not really deserve anything else.

2009 – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Nominated for: Cinematography
Should be nominated: Production Design (duh…) and Visual Effects.

2010 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Nominated for: Visual Effects, Production Design
Should be nominated: Honestly, nothing else.

2011 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Nominated for: Visual Effects, Production Design, Makeup
Should be nominated: BEST PICTURE!!! In the weak year that was 2011, and with the amazing quality of the film, this was just a crime of a snub. Also for Score and Sound Mixing.

What is your opinion on this topic? Was HP overlooked? Or it get what it deserved?
