Up a wide marble staircase, smothered in red velvet, the double doors to the luxurious ballroom are flanked by two footman clad in burgundy and gold trimmed coats. Mirroring one another's movements perfectly, they bow and pull open the heavy doors to the festivities beyond.
You are greeted with the sound of bubbly voices and music, and a mixture of pleasant smells. Along with hundreds of glowing candles in medieval candelabra, intricate tapestries of Merlin, Morgan, Arthur and Guinevere can be found illustrating historical events around the room.
A number of small round tables skirt the room in honor of the occasion, their large white rose and thistle centerpieces not taking away from the copies of Plimpy Soup for the Wizarding Soul which are piled carefully beneath them. The famous wizarding mandolin band Mad Morgan are positioned on a small stage beyond the buffet. Here you will find sizzling roast beef, pork and mixed root vegetables alongside platters of fresh fruit, various dinner roles, and of course, plimpy soup.
Tonight is the much anticipated launch party for Plimpy Soup for the Wizarding Soul, put on by publisher Whizz Hard Books at the ritzy Wizarding hotel in London known as The Sword in the Stone. Willow wandered off and that was fine with her. This thing just needed to get started. She sipped her drink and her chocolate eyes scanned the room again, careful to avoid certain people. Really though she should probably get away from Rook before he managed to annoy her anymore and that was precisely what the woman was about to do when the host's voiced thundered across the room.
Lovely.
She took in the speech eyeing the woman's clothes and then eyeing her escort.
"Be of some use and get some good pictures Rook. You didn't come here solely to irritate me did you?" She said this without taking her eyes off the man speaking. She took another sip of drink then side eyed him before digging through her purse for her trust quick notes quill and parchment. Yeah work time.
"Today Rook! You don't need to be particular about getting anyone's good side either."

Sylvester flinched as the man's voice BOOMED (literally BOOMED) through the room unexpectedly. The 30-something gave a small groan as he realised it was the host who had decided that now was the opportune moment to start giving his speech (without prior warning so as to save their ears the fright!).
"What a ghastly loud and obnoxious man," he muttered to no one in particular. Layla began snapping at him to get some pictures taken. "Actually, I had come just to irritate you, but just as well I had turned up at all since you clearly seem incapable of having you or Billow take the pictures," more grumbling.
Taking the camera into his possession, he set it up, focussing directly on the LOUD fellow, and with a steady hand he took a few snaps, flashes erupting from the camera and probably blinding anyone nearby for a few seconds. Shouldn't the Prophet have ACTUAL qualified photographers for this kind of thing? Evidently another example of how the paper was going to the trolls with cowpants Dacosta in charge.

Layla nodded in agreement with Sylvester but once she realized what she was actually doing she stopped. Even when he was right she wasn't willing to let him know that. The man's ego was already unbearable as is. She scowled at him. Did he really think now was a good time to sass her?
"Willow is suppose to be taking pictures but she's over there with the other guests mingling. AND if my predecessors had found it fit to hire photographers we wouldn't be having this conversation. Stop sassing me and do your job." She frowned. For a man he was very mouthy, it annoyed the crap out of her.
"I suppose when you're done doing that we should go do some mingling of our own."

"Can't expect much more from interns, really..." another flash, "... they're only in it so they can get to meet the celebs. As if they care about the ACTUAL work that needs done." If Syllie had HIS way, no one below 28 would ever get a position in the Prophet, unpaid intern or not. Pfft.
She could also moan all she wanted about her 'predecessor' not hiring photographers, but she hadn't exactly gone out of her way to do some hiring of her own. It certainly would have been at the top of HIS list had he not been overlooked for the EIC position simply as a result of Ministry interference...
He wasn't bitter. Nope.
Sylvester took the final few snaps, certain he had at least SOME usable photographs. "Mingling is a good idea. Oh hey, is that Dell Bott...?" GRIN. "Maybe we should go say hi, Layla." MORE GRINS.

Layla ignored his comment. No matter what he said, she liked Willow and she was good at her job...when she was doing her job that is. The fact was, no matter how good they were doing Sylvester Rook was going to find something to gripe on about.
Layla glared at him when he mentioned Dell Bott's name.
