Looking away from the girl, staring whimsically out of the window, she sighed, "He attacked my mind several times in the holidays. When your father and I first met. He failed alot of the time, but others....The first time, I simply collapsed, became unconscious for a few hours. The next, he imposed the imperius curse on me and almost made me drown myself in thepond, you know in the garden of the cottage. And then, the last..." she said, squinting, the memory of it still in her mind. |
Kristi put a gentle hand on Marcella's arm. "What happened the last time?" she encouraged her. |
"I almost killed Severus.." she choked, with no tears coming to her eyes. "At the time, I was distraught. He had become a close friend, someone I had confided in and yet, with my bare hands, I had almost strangled the life out of him. After I had released him, I felt as guilty as sin, so guilty that I tried to hack my hands off..." she said, tearing up her sleeves and showing cut marks around her hands. "But, he stopped me. He didn't blame. He held me and kept me safe and stayed with me all night just in case I had another attack. And now, it seems, things might have been kinder if he had died then. If he had, neither of us would be suffering now." |
Tears formed in Kristi's eyes as Marcella told her tale. She put her arms around her friend and hugged her. Releasing her, but keeping her hands on Marcella's shoulders, Kristi said, "Don't think like that. If you had killed him, who knows what would have happened? You could be in your father's hands doing even more horrific things than just falling in love with a cranky older man." |
"I suppose. Like being forced to be in love with another cranky old man." she joked, wiping at her eyes. "I'm fine, I just thought you should know. I mean, you're bound to have been wondering, how, or why we even got together in the first place. I can understand, that from where your standing, it would seem extremely strange." |
Kristi laughed. "I must admit, it is extremely strange. But, I think if I had known about this sooner, I may not have been as upset. I can see how that incident would have brought you together. Snape was probably flipping out over you; he has a very strong sense of duty and would have blamed himself if anything had happened, even if there was nothing he could do to prevent it. So, I can see now how he got himself into a position to fall in love with you." |
Laughing back, she shook her head, "No, Kristi, it wasn't like that completely. It was more than just that, as to why we did come together. After I had nearly drowned myself, he blamed himself for it. Because he had been away the night previous, with you-know-who and hadn't noticed anything different about me. After that, we stayed pretty close together and one night, we got into a rather heated argument and, upset, I ended up apologising to him. I was about to leave the room when he asked me to stay. Rather provactively, now that I look back on it, I asked him to give me a reason to stay. He did, in the form of a kiss, but even after that nothing happened. He was shocked, even disgusted with himself." |
"You know... When I stop thinking about how the man you are talking about is my father, the story takes on a whole new light. It's all rather romantic actually, which is very odd seeing as how Snape is the furthest thing from romantic there is," Kristi said, thoughtfully. "He really kissed you? I'm sorry... I didn't mean it like that... It's just... Well, I never thought he would be the one to uh... make the first move?" |
"You have a point. It is rather funny when you take out the details of it being myself and Snape. And yes, he did. After that things became, well, more than a little awkward. I believe, when Voldemort posessed me, he believed Snape to have done something inappropriate to me and so wanted to kill him. When he didn't succeed, he punished him and he became rather ill. I was really worried and Dumbledore had no answers, but he eventually recovered. I then, became further ill due to my father and he kind of took care of me. One time, when he brought me a glass of water, voluntarily, our fingers kind of touched while I was taking the glass from him and we both jumped, causing the glass to smash and the contents to spill everywhere. You can pretty much guess what happened after that, I wont go into details, it's not necessary." |
"Thanks for that," Kristi said, half jokingly. "So, has your father tried possessing you since then? If not, how come?" |
"Since I've been here, I've rarely left Hogwarts. Dumbledore has all sorts of protections around that place, so I suppose that's why. Which is also why we shouldn't spend too long here." she said, getting up and putting her coat back on. "Let's just popinto a few more shops and leave." |
"That's true," Kristi said, getting up and following Marcella out the door. "Why don't we check out Madame Malkin's? I could stand a new robe or two." Thinking over what Marcella had just said, she grabbed Marcella's arm to stop and turn her. "But, then, what about Darrin?" she asked. |
"What about Darrin?" she asked, rather insensitively as she slung her bag over her shoulder and pushed open the door into Madam malkin's Robes for all Ocassions. |
"Well, if you wre protected from attacks because of the enchanments surrounding Hogwarts, why wasn't Darrin?" she asked, fingering through robes on the racks. |
"Because, after he brought me to Hogwarts, he vanished.Didn't Snape tell you?" she asked, throwing her a sideways glance. "He thinks Voldemort got his hands on him then. He thinks the Dark Lord persuaded him that going to him was the way to get me back and earn respect from people." She started to shuffle robes along the racks and picked up a dark purple dress robe and held it against her body. "If he were ever going to get out, think I would buy this. What do you think?" |
"Oooo... I'll bet that looks really nice on, "Kristi said, turning to watch Marcella while fingering a green dress robe herself. "I htink you should buy it now. Think positive." |
Quite flattered, and grateful nothing distasteful had come into Kristi's mind, she folded the dress and nodded her head. "I think I will." Searching through the other racks, she mumbled, "I need something a little less informal too, something more muggle like." She chuckled, "My father would turn in his grave, if he had one." |
Kristi giggled, "It feels good to be away from the castle. Thanks for coming with me." |
"No problem." she said, holding a pair of black jean-like trousers to her hips. "I guess they're drifting into Muggle Fashion too now, how do these look? How selfish of me, what do you want to buy Kristi?" |
"Oh, I don't know," she said, moving toward the everyday robes and picking up a couple of plain black robes. "I think I'll just get a couple of plain robes. I don't really have any use for anything else." |
"Oh live a little Kristi!" she said, picking up a baby blue shirt and holding it against her. "Now that's nice, conservative, like you, but still better than your dull black." |
"It's a little bright, isn't..." Kristi stopped at the look on Marcella's face. "Well, alright, if you insist." Kristi added the shirt to the two robes and then snuck a couple of black shirts in underneath. Marcella made another face. "I can't help it. Look who bought my clothes for me all my life. I can't help it if I'm most comfortable in black," Kristi said, defensively. |
"Which reminds me, if he ever does get out, I'm definately going to buy him some new clothes. Maybe I should burn all his black clothes so he has no choice." she giggled, handing the woman the white shirt, black jeans and purple dress robe. |
"Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you. I think he'd die if he couldn't wear black. I've never seen him in anything else. Hmmm..... I wonder," Kristi said, glancing around the shop, mischieveously. She strode purposefully over to the men's section and walked back with a blood red dress robe. "What do you think? I'm not sure the colour will go with his complexion, though," she said, furrowing her brow and looking intently at the robe. |
She frowned, "I think we should coax him into color slowly. How about a navy one?" she asked, tentatively, thinking Snape would look like he'd sunburnt all but his face if he wore the red. |
