Video: Dan Radcliffe narrates Holocaust survivors documentary (UPDATED)
Daniel Radcliffe lent his voice as narrator for a short piece entitled The Legacy of Hope, which focused on three Holocaust victims who spoke of their survival and escape to the U.K. The video can be watched below.
The film introduces us to three survivors who have made their home in the U.K. Each contributor shares with us a personal story of loss, survival, recovery and strength and Daniel Radcliffe sets each story in its historical context. The film ends with the three survivors asking viewers to carry their messages of hope into the future and encourage us all to become part of The Legacy of Hope and work together to build a fairer and more inclusive world. The film works best when viewed as a whole because it is important to show that there are many different narratives within the issues raised by HMD (Holocaust Memorial Day).
Anyone in the UK interested in receiving a free DVD of the video can do so by e-mailing: enquiries@hmd.org.uk.
UPDATE: Dan spoke about his involvement in the piece:
Quote:
"When I was approached to narrate this short film, The Legacy of Hope, I felt very privileged. I felt that in a very small way I was contributing to the remembrance of these tragic and horrendous events, whilst also commemorating all those people who refused to let the horrors they had lived through dictate the tone of the rest of their lives.
“The surest shield we have against future atrocities is our knowledge and our emotional understanding of what has happened in the past. The chance to help the vital work done by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust could not be turned down."
My opinion of and respect for Daniel just shot to astronomical levels. I've been interested in Holocaust Remembrance and WWII history for as long as I can remember, and seeing him involved in soimething like this is wonderful.
This is so sad! I think that the Holocaust is defiantely the sadest moment in history for me. We are currently watching Schinder's List in History and also by watching this video above, its just so hard to comprehend how bad it was for these poor innocent people. I have the greatest respect and love for the amazing people who survived and those who were not as lucky. May they all live peacefully.
What a beautiful film. Can't believe the lady still has her pendant after all these years, it's really amazing. Dan's narration was really lovely, so glad he decided to take part
Wow! The holecost was horrible and i feel the same as he does about how tragic it is.I am glad he did this. How can people be so mean killing poor inocent children mothers fathers grandparents sibiling how could they do so and not feel any remorse.
i watched the entire vedio and have tears in my eyes.i recently came across a book which had pictures about the Holocaust and informatiom about it.it was so devastating to see and read all the information.
the part in vedio where they showed the incenrating chambers i had chills running down my spine and tears running down my cheeks.i just cant imagine how such innocent people had such tragic deaths.
all i can say is that seeing and listening to the survivors i feel very proud about their strength and courage to keep up their hopes and fighting against the worst odds of their lives.hats off to everybody who survived and all my respects to those who couldnt make it to see their new generations in this world.we are proud of you all too because you too had the courage to face all this but have such a tragic end...

and well done Dan.nice narration.
Unfortunately, as Dan said in the narration, it hasn't stopped.
It was amazing. It's really touching and Dan did a great job, his voice was really calm and soothing I think. I always support famous people when they use their fame to do something good... In my opinion, it's the best thing they can use their name for.
