Rumor: Hint of death identity in last Potter (SPOILER)
 

Does the identity of the bust signed by JK Rowling give us a clue to one of the deaths in book 7? As we reported earlier, she finished the seventh book while staying at the five-star Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. Before checking out, she marked the occasion with a tantalising inscription scribbled on the back of a Roman-style bust.

The hotel says the identity of the bust incorrect, but if it is correct here are a few very interesting facts. The wall is known as Hardrain's wall. After falling into ill repair, it was later restored by Emperor Septimius Severus and passes near the Yorkshire village of Snape.

This is leading many to believe that Potion Master Severus Snape is one of the deaths in book 7. We will have to wait until July 21 to discover if this more than a rumor.

I would take this with a grain salt but it could explain why Rowling would sign a bust in a hotel.

Earlier reports say the bust is of the Greek God Hermes, which is the name of Percy's owl....so could that mean Percy dies?

Well, at least there is a reason for killing Snape if it is true :) he wants to be a nice man, but double-spying won't lead you to anything good

Seriously, I think Snape has already done a lot for this story to happen, the prophecy and all along with that, maybe he'll have to sacrifice something to help Harry, maybe he'll be dying when Harry learns the truth about him, maybe he will even tell he loved Lily, so this death will be significant.

P.S.: if that's a rumor, I don't care :lol: I'm one believing theorist

It would not surprise me if Snape dies, but I still think there's a lot more to Snape then we all think and we're going to be surprised.

I think we are all a little too excited about reading the 7th book. LOL I love how excited everyone gets about guessing the storyline. I am glad I am not the only one who takes the Potter books so seriously. All of my friends always make fun of me for being so obsessed, I feel better thanks to you guys. :hpbroom:

The whole thing about Severus the Roman and the village of Snape all points to being about restoration. It screams to be about the restoration of Snape's reputation and position in wizarding society when it is ultimately revealed that he was a good guy working for the Order and that his actions with Dumbledore were part of a secret pact made between the two.

JKR is very clever and her choice of Snape's name obviously stemmed from these historic and geographic facts and was part of her plan all along - to see Snape crumble but to eventually be restored towards his former glory.

I read about this yesterday and I was very intrigued but also skeptical....would she really do that? It's a very cool idea but i'm not sure but I definetely wouldn't put it past her. Stuff like this just makes me want the book even more!!!!!!!!!!!!*obsessed and loving it*

Restored was my word. Hadrian Wall wasn't a complete rebuid so when the paper used it I chose to change it. I couldn't quote the entire article. The article used rebuilt.

You make an interesting point about Snape being restored. Restore to good name perhaps? I have always had a struggle with Snape's character. I love to hate him but then I ponder if there is more than meets the eye. I even thought at one time he might be James in disguise. Dumbledore was human but his skill at mind reading were outstanding so I doubt that Snape could guard his intentions for 16 years from him. Snape owes Harry for James saving him and for telling Voldermort about what he had heard at the Hog's Head.

I was kind of expecting Snape to die anyway so I wouldn't be too surprised if this was what JKR was pointing out. I think the bigger question is, will he die a redemptive death fighting for good or will he die at the hands of good for his crimes in book 6?

How interesting. Everything JK does seem cool and it would be incredibly cool if she actually did that as a clue. It would be awesome.

If it is true, I'd be severly disappointed because I love Snape.

But sometimes I think people tend to read into things too much, so we'll just have to wait and see :-)

I wouldn't mind is Snape died. He's just ... mean. He totally deserves it!

I can't help but feel sad for people who go out of their way to define, lucky chance. If indeed it was even that. Since the hotel allegedly says that's not the bust ... what are the odds Jo knew that bust was there? Or did she have it sent up ... I mean seriously ... besides everyone knows Snape is going to die ... or not ... I think it's just lucky circumstance if he does die, and really some people just read waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much into this stuff. She'd have to know the bust was there to begin with and have planned it all along, and for what? To ruin the ending? :frog: Seriously people it's just a few months away and every Greek and Roman had a bust ... and every other one of Jo's characters has some kind of Roman or Greek allusion in their, seriously stop ... July isn't so far away.

Yeah, we don't know if JKR even really did sign that bust, did she or her spokespeople confirm it?

Also, in the words of Gandalf the Gray/White, don't be so eager to deal out death and judgement unless you can do it yourself. I think JKR is a master literary genius because she gives us this nasty character in Snape, a loathsome individual who has killed a person, and yet so many people don't...want...him...to...die. Myself included. We LOVE Snape!

I think the only way he CAN be redeemed though is if he dies. Which is very very sad. Otherwise, if he is evil, he'll end up in Azkaban (just desserts. There are some fates worse than death, and after seeing how Bellatrix and Sirius turned out from their time behind bars, I wouldn't wish Azkaban on anyone!)

I completly agree with you Otts! I'm sorry but the whole Snaoe theory seems a little....far fetched to me. Come on people think about it, how was JK suppose to know she wuold finish the book and it so happened a bust would be in her hotel that somehow has a connection to the names Severus and Snape? She's good and a genius and all. But she can't go around looked at the diffrent busts in hotels and then deiced to choose that one because of it and so conviently finish her book. And would be really do something so obvious?? It's JK! The master of secrecy. Maybe this is all a rouge to make everyone look the wrong way.

I agree with the general idea that Snape will die, but I'm a toss up regarding who will do it - Harry or Voldemort. Obviously, Harry has him in his sights, based upon his comment at the end of the half blood prince. But since right now it appears that Snape is evil, after killing Dumbledore, the ironic twist would be that he was not evil, and in the end Voldemort gets him.

It makes me wonder if Snape is going to die, maybe he'll redeem himself maybe die in an attempt to save Harry. I still say Wormtail will have to do something too for the debt he owes Harry. We'll see!

I seriously think this is looking into something a bit too much. I mean, it's great that she marked an occasion like that in a hotel and on a bust, but if she wrote on that bust especially, then well...it means she probably would have had to look into that bust especially, and it seems just a bit too much to do to say - 'I finished this book here at this time'.

I think a lot of people knew Snape is going to be in for something anyway...

I really hope that snotty idiot dies in the seventh book. Let harry be the one to kill him. But, come on people. I dont think dumbledore is dead. Why then did harry see falkes come from dumbledores tomb in the latter part of book 6. And what if dumbledore is hiding himself like he told Draco " more completely than you can possibly imagine?" and also what if sirius isnt dead. what if the veal was a portkey set up by a good person to help him out. And also I didnt know the avada kedavra curse made you fly up in the air, but the book says dumbledore flew up in the air. I mean if it really was the killing curse, then why didn't cedric fly up in the air after voldemort killed him. the books has many clues!

as for the Snape prediction, i find the theory about Snape dying in an attempt to save Harry possible. and i quite like that theory :D
i think Snape will most probably die because JK said that two important characters die and really, if you track Snape's significance all throughout the books and in all the background information that we've been given, he's played a MAJOR role in the events of Harry's life, from passing on the information to Voldemort about the prophecy, to playing a double-agent, and killing off Dumbledore.
i think it'd be quite riveting to read that part of the story. also, i like the thought i had at the possibility that Harry and Snape will come to an understanding before Snape dies. That Harry believes Snape had good intentions and really was on the good side and was only spying on Voldemort. It'd be really cool to have them kinda be on good terms and maybe Harry will even feel pity for him and feel bad for always doubting him, and be thankful for all that Snape has done for him, (if he has indeed done something to save Harry's life).

So Nsape might be one that falls. I don't really care for his charcter so I won't cry but my friend even if the charactes are evil she gets attached to them. Better go get the toilet paper ready for her.

aww...to be honest i will cry if Snape dies...i\'ve grown attached to his character after reading teh books and watching Alan Rickman\'s amazing portrayl of him...i love his character even though he might be evil...i guess we will find out soon enough
