R.A.B. identified?
 

According to Nimbus.com, Isabel Nunez, the Portuguese translator for the Harry Potter books, stated that J.K. Rowling told her that R.A.B. is Regulus Arcturus Black. Nunez says that she only requested to know the sex of R.A.B. for grammatic reasons, but that Jo not only told her the character was male but gave her his name as well.

We have to bear in mind that this is still a rumour everyone! Its not confirmed by jo and I don't think she will confirm until the book's out!♥

maybe its just a fib, and she's trying to convince us all it is him when in fact it is someone entirely different. JK will prob. deny this though

well come on peeps, i think we all knew it, anyway it hasn't been confirmed or anything. And that translator dude should've kept themselves to themselves, they could be prosecuted for letting that slip

Um, why does this not mean much to me. If someone was to be told, then I'm pretty sure they'd have been told under some sort of act where they're not allowed to say anything. [There is one, I'm just not sure what it is :P]

And yeah, It was guessed by most of us. But this is a rumour, right?

Uh...I don't buy it and I don't' believe it. Jo is a genius and I doubt that she would make it that easy to figure out. I think its more complex than what everyone is saying.

If it is him then its him, but I'm not believing anything until I read the book and see if for myself.

but I can't remember any other variants of the abbreviation, so may it's could be true

I guess we will just have to see if this ends up being true. I won't believe it until I see it in the book.

Well, that's who I guessed it was but it is still a rumor. BUt I think most of us thought it was Regulas Black.

I have to say that I have always believed it to be Regulus but NOTHING is set in stone until we hear it from JKR herself. Don't believe every little thing that someone says. JKR doesn't even talk to her husban about this, why would she confide in a stranger? Plus all the people that do know something have been sworn to secret so take this with a grain of salt....but I still believe that it is Regulus anyway!

Hmm..it's very interesting that Jo Rowling would just blurt it cout, even though many of us fans strongly suspected it'd be him. :shifty:

That would be interesting if it is true, and most people guessed that it was Regulus, but until it is posted on her website, or is substantiated, I think that people should take that news with a grain of salt so to speak. Anyone can say, "Oh yeah I talked to so and so" or "I sent them a letter and they answered it!" but that doesn't necessarily mean it is true. We will just have to wait and see, but hopefully it is true :)

It could be Regulus...but I don't think J.K would just say it outright to this person...or anyone for that matter.

I always thought it was him, but since JK hasn't told the press or anything, we can't be sure. Maybe this translator person is just trying to get herself some attention :evil:

There's no way JKR would give it away, not even to a foreigner (lol). No way at all. We all know how secretive she is, and that's the way it should be.

I really didn't want to find out until she finished book seven who .R. .A. .B. stood for but she maybe right on account that it is Sirius's brother who took the locket from the hiding place where Dumbledore and Harry went to look for the locket and found out that the real locket was taken already.

Although personally, I believe RAB to be Regulus....until I read what JKR has written, I will not believe it...I seriously doubt that she would let such a huge piece of information slip like that...very uncharacteristic of her..she wants to keep people in the dark as long as possible!

I think it fits. I mean the name's right, and Sirius never told Harry how Regulus died exactly. He just said it was something to do with Voldemort. So, I think it's him.

I find this hard to belive. I don't think JKR would just blurt out something about the future books. And seeing as it is just a rumour, I don't really think much of it at this point. But it's still interesting!

I thought it was Mr R A Black but I'm not going to start believing rumours as they are rumours and I dont think JK would have let sumthing that vital to the final plot slip! It would be nice if it was him tho ... I hope hes as good looking as Sirius!!!!

Based on what we know, RAB would have to be Regulas Black, however, Rowling has told us that she would be introducing new characters, and that could change everything! We'll just have to wait to see if the rumour is true!

When I first read book 6 I thought it was Regulus Black, but Jo is so careful when she speaks/gives interviews about not revealing any information. I find it really hard to believe that she would have told this translator the name of the character.

Hearing this rumor almost makes me doubt that it's Regulus Black now... Knowing Jo she has a trick up her sleeve. It probably isn't who we think it is....

What people will do for notoriety! If true I hope she loses more than she has gained. As far as the story is concerned it makes little difference to the enjoyment of that, as it is expected. However this still doesn't mean it is true, what a tangled web we lead.

I think "R.A.B" will be a totaly new charicter all together... have to wait and see.

Is this translator out of her mind? Rowling confided her that thing, and she tells it to everyone! They ought to replace her rightaway with someone else, because she obviously hasn´t understood the idea of the whole thingy. Does she think Rowling hasn´t told it to any other translator? How childish! Other translators are smart enough to keep the info to theirselves, as Rowling has meant to be. It was meant to help them to avoid wrong initials in their work.

even tho this is a rumour i always said it was regulus and never thought it could be anyone else, and i agree with above, not only is that person if its true might be prosecuted but they kinda spoiled it for some people who take this with a fistful of salt rather than people who take it with a pinch of salt. lol, they didnt need to say even though we can consider this to be a rumour

I guess they didn't have to sign a wavier not to give up info regarding the book.

I guess if JKR didn't require one that she wasn't too concerned with RAB identy getting out.

I can't see Jo being happy that this translator has revealed this to the public. If I were Jo I would sue. The woman over stepped her job and I would not be surprised that her contract to do the translation doesn't have some sort of clause that hold her to silence about all things Jo says or what is written about HP. The lady is stupid and I wouldn't blame Jo or the publishers for suing her for breach of contract. I am upset because this lady has stole from all of us the joy of discovering who RAB was by read the book and this was one of many things I was excited about in book 7.

I don't think JKR would divulge the answer to maybe the most hotly debated question in HBP. I anticipate this statement being retracted in the near future.

I don't think Jo would have said that. Ther are only two things i can think of as an explanation;

1. Jo didn't say anything and this translator id lying, and in a whole lot of trouble.

2. It is Regulus Black BUT it isn't important enough to keep it a secret, but the translator is still in a whole lot of trouble for saying this!

That is my conclusion but i don't think this is true, yes most of us think it is Regulus Black, but that all it is guesses, it isn't written down by Jo and published that it his him yet. So untill i am discarding this rumour as untrue.

That one was pretty much expected, but I'm still convinced we've already seen the locket at 12 Grimmauld place in the cabinet they cleaned out.
