Actor Timothy Spall recently spoke about how much of a difference playing Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) in the Harry Potter films has made in his life, including when meeting fans: Quote:
I asked Timothy Spall, who plays Pettigrew, what Harry Potter had done for his career?
"Destroyed it," he said.
He was joking, and he got a big laugh from assembled TV critics.
"No, actually, it's very unusual," he added. "It's one of the smallest parts I've ever played in my life, and wherever I go in the world, it's one of the ones that gets the biggest recognition. I don't mind. I think Harry Potter is kind of a phenomenon."
He says even people in Middle America say, doing an accent, "Hey, are you the rat dude?"
"And it's somebody in their 50s," he added.

I thought the hand kills him in the Seventh book? That was when Malfoy didn't want to identify Harry, Hermione and Ron. I think. Sorry if I'm wrong.
