| | | Potter book six web scam foiled
Fans are being warned to watch out for internet scams after a site claiming to be selling copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was shut down. Quote:
The site, claiming to sell an online version of the finished book, appeared in early January.
The website was forced to shut down on Monday after the BBC told JK's agents about the scam.
Quote:
The dodgy site promised: "This book is available now in electronic variant only. If you do not wish to wait for six months more, buy and start reading right now! Be the first to reveal all the secrets!"
Quote:
Christopher Little, Rowling's literary agent, said: "The internet is monitored all the time for things like this and usually we manage to get them taken down more quickly than this one."

I feel sorry for all the people who fell for it. They must be pretty desperate! And poor JK Rowling! She must feel pretty bad about this.

These people are so sick to target Harry Potter fans (a fair few who are children and teens) out of their money. Why do they have to spoil such a great thing?

Really what was the point of them doing it in the first place, surely they knew that they would be caught.

Some people just have way too much time on their hands. That is so wrong, it is her work and people need to learn to respect her writing. People are so stupid sometimes.

*rolls eyes* I do feel sorry for anyone who fell for this... but the should have been suspicious when it wasn't JK's website advertising this and by the fact that a HP book has never been available online before.
Even if these people did manage to have a copy of the first completed manuscript, it would have been STOLEN and it's wrong to knowingly buy things that were obtained by illegal means. (not only wrong but illegal, I think) These people honestly should have known better.
I hope that site only had Credit Card as a way to pay... it would mean that less children would have gotten hoodwinked.

There are people out there who do not care about what trouble they cause, but you would have to be daft to believe it anyway.

Bloody people taking advantage of fans who like HArry Potter! Quote:

I kind of agree with you on this, J.K. Rowling or her litery agent or someone like that would have informed us if there was any other type of release.
