[img]http://www.snitchseeker.com/images/news/knight_bus_80.jpg' align='middle'> PoA debuts in China next week - Movie bonanza hits China

Summary:
Competition for the movie dollar will be fierce next week as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is released in China.

Article:

Finally! It was originally scheduled to hit Chinese cinemas on September 10, but has has been delayed until the 20th -- a National Holiday.

The postponement to late September leads to a battle of 3 blockbusters during the holiday period, as PoA also opens across the country with "2046," and Jackie Chan's latest hit "New Police Story" on the 24th.

I knew that it was delayed in China but i didnt know it was that late! I hope that they enjoy the film just as much as we have. And surely it will beat the other films cause China is Harry Potter crazy, even more so than us!

At one point they were going to ban it so Chinese fans should count themselves lucky they're getting it at all!

COOL!! I know China will love it because it's really GOOD! Also, PoA is currently ranked the 15th best grossing film of all time with CoS 7th and SS is ranked 2nd. The best thing is that PoA isn't even finished yet not including when the DVD comes out, can't wait till November when we can buy the DVD!!! I miss PoA even though I went to see over 13x. :sorcerer:

Yay!
But I'm sure the bad wouldn't have kept people in China from getting coppies of it. Still, it's nice to see it on the big screen.

When I reported that, I also wanted to say that the real battle royale will now be between PoA and Shrek 2 for the no.1 box office movie of 2004 (worldwide)!

Currently, the worldwide stats say Shrek 2 is no.1, PoA no.2 -- so closely followed by Spider-Man2 (by merely less than $50 million, I think-- last time I checked).

We're talking about China -- the most populous country in the world... the popularity generated by the books on which the movie is based (JKR's HP series) -- which have all been translated into Chinese -- did for PoA what Shrek2 or Spider-Man2 never had in China -- advance marketing/promo for the movie.

How popular are the HP books in China? Let's all refresh our memories.. check out the links below:
Harry Potter Sales Break 1.3 Million in China
HP wins press award in China with a million copies sold last year
Chinese version of HP series has found millions of readers in China
Online Potter translation sparks legal controversy in China
Fake HP book takes China by storm

That makes me doubly interested in checking the boxofficemojo-worldwide stats in the coming weeks -- I expect PoA to distance itself from Spider-Man2 by many miles.

It would probably even get past Shrek2, but we gotta check out first if Shrek2 has been, or will also be shown in China -- something to watch out for.

Question: Do they add up the DVD sales in the total stats too (@boxofficemojo)?

If you have the PS/SS DVD.... they have a sample of a scene with Hagrid, Harry, Ron and Hermione walking outside talking about the 3-headed dog with several different languages/voices..... check it out!

Good for China... they can finally see the movie!
