| | | Overanalysis and Authorial Intent of JK's site - New York times looks at JK's site Summary:
The New York has composed an article on the authorial intent of Jo Rowling's newest version of her site and how it can be over analysed by eagle-eyed fans. Article: Overanalysis and Authorial Intent of JK's site The New York Times (you need to register for FREE to see the article) claims that the most significant Harry Potter event of late is the arrival of Jo Rowling's new site J.K.Rowling.com, which was launched last month. Quote: Every revelation, however, is being parsed closely, creating yet more theories and rumors (why does she confirm that Harry's mother is dead but not mention his father?). In its way, the site is a dare.* Quote: The site has tallied 76 million page views in just a few weeks, although Ms. Rowling wrote that readers "worked out all the riddles in about 10 minutes." Quote: It appears at a time when some of Harry Potter's online fans are wondering whether the books are being overanalyzed. Steve Vander Ark, editor of the influential Harry Potter Lexicon (www.hp-lexicon.org), is preparing a keynote speech on this topic for a coming fan convention in Ottawa (www.conventionalley.org). "Ever since a rat turned into a wizard in the third book, fans have been reading them differently, seeing everything as a clue," Mr. Vander Ark said. "It must be scary to write under these conditions."* Quote: And Rachel Dahl, a writer of Potter fan fiction - that is, fiction based on Ms. Rowling's characters - posted a widely read essay (www.lumosdissendium.org/essays/JKR.html) asking whether the author's site was in some ways irrelevant. "Do most of us really care to have the record set straight?" she wrote, adding: "The whole reason to discuss HP online is to discuss the what might have beens, the what could have beens, the possible pasts, and the possible futures." I've always wondered whether a lot of us over analyize the books, but with JKR I guess you never really know what you're going to find in the next book...
Well, it keeps a lot of us entertained between books

I do analyze a lot, but not until I've read the books twice.
And as for her site, I'm just searching for clues, and enjoying the fun.

maybe it's overanalysing, but i think it's fun how us fans come up with crazy theories.
and it's cool the Lexicon's mentioned in the NYT!

I know a lot of people that over think Harry Potter. I just read the books and watch the movie, I don't really know any theories or think of anything complex like that...
But im still a big fan....
