I'm half way though the book chapter nineteen bearing in mind Iv'e bin reading since 8am (GMT) and took a couple of hours break from the book and its brill so far.

Man, that book is DARK. JKR has totally excelled herself this time, blurring the boundaries between good and evil.

Heard before I bought the book that there was going to be a significant death - made the reading all the more exciting!!!

One slight problem - HOW ARE THEY GONNA MAKE THAT INTO A MOVIE (THAT ISN'T FOUR HOURS LONG)??????

I've started reading it... stopped at ch. 6 for a breather, lol. SHEER BRILLIANCE. Lots of dark stuff, amazing secrets waiting to be revealed. Those secrets will shock you guys, seriously! I was in complete shock. Really amazing so far...

Now, I must go and read more! tehehe :whisle:

I think, its time I wrote a review. I wont be giving anything vital away, but jusy my view on character development.

Mrs Figg -I love her. Finally we get to see a bit more about this mysterious cat-loving old lady, and what I've learned, I like.

Harry- Does alot of yelling in this book. But he deserves to, after all he's been through. One very angry little boy.

Ginny- I am so glad she's grown up a bit in this book. No more wimpishness thank-you very much.\

The new DADA teacher is EVIL. I loather gher. And Percy.

I just happened to flip through the pages in the book and landed on the page where the character dies. I won't tell you who it is but let me say that nobody guessed it right. The death is particularly sad because this person is so pitiful and vulnerable. Why couldn't she hae picked Draco?

Hi All. I read the book last night starting about 15 minutes after I got it, and finished it in about 5 1/2 hours (I read very fast). All I can say is that I can nly wish for the type of talent JKR has. I am 28 Yrs old - and I read alot of books, and I was so anxious for this one I dragged my DH to a Harry Potter Party at my local Barnes and Noble...

From the first chapter to the last page, it was one of, if not the best book I have ever read. Possibly the best set of new characters- especially the DADA Prof- since she introduced Harry.

My husband told me a week ago he had a feeling he knew who died, and he was right on the money. After I thought about it, it makes total sense, and, give what we know now that Dumbledore told Harry, I am dying for Book 6 and Book 7.

I can't wait to hear what you all think of it. Don't rush through it. It is a book that should be savored.

But I was disipointed be cause this morning at Midnight when I was at my book store I was 4th in line and I didnt get my book till 12:18!!!!! Because the people were soo slow ~ THey dicided to take the book out at 12:02!!!!!!!!OoOoOoOo Well I got my book and thats all that matters!

P.S I was in the newspaper as the biggest harry potter fan in my home town! Isnt that awsome!

I'm not completely through the book but i'm a little more than halfway through the book and i must say it is very good and exciting my favortie is still book 3 but book five is certainly brillant

ok, i had to change my siggy, it gave the "person" away(plz dont kick me off the site), im not gonna lie, it surprised me, and i wish it was hagrid(no, its not hagrid, clear his name off the list), the "person" was probably the BEST character, whole-hearted good soul, and when you get to the chapter- brace yourself, its "beyond the veil" the 35th chapter. And no offense to harry, but he is, oh, it was all his and nevilles fault, and now i feel sorry for harry, cuz he was kinda close to him, anywayz, enough about that........ my review of 1-10: 47, lol. so far its a good book, no im not done, and i was looking at teh chapter pictures when i saw who dies, good luck with your own reading

Just finished the book & all I can say was that it was brilliant. In the begining I like the way Harry was acting even if it was understandable and I didn't like the death scene - it was too keep (IMO). Overall I'd give it a 9 out of 10, but have many, many questions for book 6

yea harrys got RAGING EMOTIONS AND HORMONES(if i cant say that,i didnt know) in this book, but it makes it more fun, and tho i was just skimming, is it just me, or is there like no draco in this book

i'm reading the book as i sit at my computer and i am on page 660..i got the book at 1 o' clock this afternoon and it is 10:45 at night..i have only taken two 15 minute breaks because it is so hard to get away from the book..i love it.. i have a huge pain in my neck and head from looking down for so long at the book in my lap...i am really glad for the way it turned out....it was a great birthday present.

I might get lynched for this, but I really dislike this book. Not because it's dark and depressing, and not because someone ruined it and told me that my favorite character bit the dust, but it's just off. I can't really explain why I'm so turned off by the book, but I don't really want to finish the thing. I think I'll let my mom read it for a while before I get back into it. I need a break from HP.

OMG! Im just finishing chapter five and i have only a word...brilliant. Is darker, and is just like i imagine. I want to finish it now, but is complicated for a girl that doesnt speak english very well...

OOTP is a dark story. Like Harry I too spent much of the book angry at what was happening. I really liked the changes to Neville, there are hints that he may have a larger role in the later books.
Almost everything changes for Harry, and the others, in this book. So many people have to deal with losses. Especially the Weasleys. More than one person dies in this book and more than one person comes close to dying. Some even get severely injured. There were 3 or 4 times when I thought 'This is it, this one dies.' When it finally came it was without much warning, sudden, and shocking.
The new DADA teacher is truly horrible. I pictured several different people playing her as I read her scenes. Each one uglier and more repulsively made up than the last. Finally a teacher at Hogwarts that really makes you realise what a nice person Severus Snape really is. I also enjoyed the fact that all except one of the former DADA teachers were in this book.

WARNING: This is a fairly long review with some possible spoilers. If you don't wanna know anything about the fifth book, well... I guess you're reading the wrong thread, huh?


As someone who works in a bookstore on the day 'Order of the Phoenix' was released I unfortunately had to wait till I got home to start reading - and the plan was to only read a chapter a day as an incentive to study for my upcoming uni exams. Featured word : plan. I finished 'Phoenix' at twenty to five this morning after having barricaded myself in my bedroom, ignoring the normal necessities of dinner and bathroom breaks because I couldn't put it down. Absolutely brilliant. I wasn't sure what to expect; I loved the first three but after the brilliance of 'Azkaban' I found 'Goblet' lacking somewhat, and with all the hype I had steeled myself for disappointment - I mean, really, could JK be able to top her already fantastic self? If you haven't read it yet and are still worried, DON'T BE! READ!

As to what it's like (other than brilliant - but I think I've covered the gushing with praise section of this review well enough,) it's darker, it's older, it's full of great one-liners and even better two-liners (Ron and Hermoine being notables, although Ginny pops out with some great stuff too,) and some terriffic (and sometimes horriffic) suprises. I'd avoided spoilers like the plague, although I'd guessed they'd be at least one character death (the victim took me completely from left-field though.) Some of the plot points were fairly predictable (but then, I've read an awful lot of fantasy, and as they say, there's only so many plots in the world,) but there were more than enough suprises to make up for that. And as to character development... well... THEY ACTUALLY DEVELOPED!

About the only faults I can find is that the ending was fairly complicated - I mean, great for your older readers, but there is a huge contingent of kiddies reading/being read this book, and I'm not sure they're gonna get a lot of it. That was always going to be a problem as the series moved on and the character's aged, and after reading it, I think there is going to be quite a few parents deciding that this book is too old for their kids. As a book seller that has me worried (profitprofitprofitprofitprofit) but as a reader... well, personally I like Harry et al growing up emotionally as well as physically, and I hope JK continues this trend in the next two books.

Of course, the worst thing about it was the fact that it ended at all. Now I'm back to the awful predicament I was in before - no new Harry to read for quite a while. *wistful sigh*

I am currently on chapter sixteen, and it is brill so far! There are way more than nine new characters. Poor Harry, he has a big temper.. and Dumbledore is acting very shady. Harry goes to three new wizarding places as of ch. 16!! That's a lot! You all will love this book! By the way, Mine's a first edition It says that the book was sold in July 2003 -- Must have been printed a long time ago, then. Well, I have to go !! You need to read this.
