The Japanese release date for ' Goblet of Fire' has been announced as being November 26th 2005. The press release makes the following statement;
"The release date of the fourth film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" has been decided on November 26th. Also the first trailer will be released on May 28 at 1175 screens in Japan and premium tickets (advance tickets) will be sold in nine large cities. Moreover, a gorgeous tote bag with the embroidery of the crest of Hogwarts adheres by the privilege."

I don't think it's to do with distance. HP3 came out here on May 31st.
