No Prime Minister, Gaunts or Hepzibah Smith in Half-Blood Prince As with every Harry Potter adaptation, given the size of the books, some subplots have to be sacrificed in order to transfer the story to the screen. Half-Blood Prince is no different. W.B. have confirmed that the following will not be present in the sixth film; - Muggle Prime Minister - The Gaunts - Hepzibah Smith Source: The Snitch |
awww shame, but understandable with the size of the book! |
How are they going to do the whole horcrux thing? |
I'm still shocked that they wouldn't include the gaunts! I was looking forward to seeing Merope and Morfin! remember his little poem?:shifty: Hissy Hissy little snakey slither on the floor you be good to Morfin or he'll nail you to the door... |
^ That was rather brilliant. If I'm honest, I forsaw the first and the third, but I didn't think they'd take out the Gaunts. Mind you, having thought Helena Bonham-Carter was perfect for Merope, it'll be nice not to have to see someone else playing the role. |
That does shock me about the Gaunts....I am sooo interested to see how they handle the entire horcrux history. |
WHAT?!?! ARRRGH...the movies gonna be HORRRRIBLE! urgh that makes mee SO MAD! |
how r they gonna explain the horcruxes without the gaunts?!?!?!?! |
I'm angry about the Gaunts, but I'm not surprised. There was that rumor about taking out Rufus, after all. Whatever happened to that? Did they take him out? |
I'm getting worried with the adaptation. Truth to be told, the Ron and Lavender subplot is far less important than the Gaunts and Hepzibah for the story. |
No Gaunts? I'm really surprised by that. It doesn't matter much to me since I wasn't a fan. I really just want to see lots of Snape and lots of Ron and lots of Ron/Hermione and I'm perfectly fine. :D |
NO GAUNTS??????????????????? Hulk mad....hulk SMASH. I'm sorry, but that is seriously.....sucky, I can't think of any other word for it. I'm already disappointed. This is going to end up being "When Harry met Ginny", I can see it coming. Romantic comedy :( So much for the integrity of the books. And if JK Rowling agrees with all of this, so much for her integrity as well. |
shame... |
No Gaunts? NOOOOO That was such a important part of the book! Who's the Smith person? |

2. I don't see how they can cut that out. Seemed like it was a pretty important sub-plot (if it is a sub-plot) to me... What with the ring and all. This is unbelievably important. They can't possibly cut that out. Harry studies this with Dumbledore... The point of HBP is telling the readers of Voldemort's past. ARGH! 3. Well. I knew she had something to do with Hufflepuff, but had forgotten everything else until I read Emma's answer. Er, this one doesn't have much of an effect on me. |
Gaspeth! :poke: how dare they! |
I think it is a big mistake to take out the Gaunts they are vital in the explanations of the horcruxes and explains Tom Riddle/Voldemort's background. I know they have to cut out somethings for time, but this one will backfire on WB. I am sure it will be a great movie, but they need the Gaunts. The only way they now can handle the Gaunts is for Dumbledore to quickly explain to Harry who they are. We'll all see next Novmeber how this will turn out. |
Pft. And how do they plan on making the film work at all without that? I mean... I could understand the whole Prime Minister bit, but the Gaunts and Hepzibah Smith??? How is it going to make sense to those poor souls who actually enjoy the films and don't bother with the books??? Alas, I do not understand WB. Sometimes, I wish another production company had taken on the task of the film... and waited a good few years for the books to be over.... Honestly, the films need to be at least five hours long and they should have had a really good acting coach on set all the time.... It's just so painful to watch someone pretend to cry on screen. |
^ I agree totally with you. WB have done a tres pooey job. No gaunts? No Hepzibah? How will they explain the horcruxes? |
*Blinks* ...I object to this... WB has realllllly failed this time. Will I see the movie? Yes. Will I like it? Prolly not. This girl at work and I said that the British should've just done mini-series for each book so you'd have a 2 hr. episode each week and then nothing IMPORTANT would get cut out and it'd prolly take the same amount of time. DH has very little that can be cut so I'm not looking forward to hearing about that. |
The Prime Minister I can understand. But the Gaunt's and Hepzibah they're pivotal to the whole Horcrux thing. I just hope they do a good job at substituting it. |
awwwe. i can understand that they cant make the movie too long. |
I echo everyone's sentiments about the Gaunts. It is so important to the plot. I have found that the film adaptations have started to really miss with the plot lately. For example: Cho being the traitor in OOTP. That made me so mad, and seemed so unnecessary. This cut also seems very unnecessary. Darn you, WB! |
*Blinks* Really? Weird. They're going to be in knots for the last movie with the horcruxes, I'd hate to be them right now. I really wanted to see the muggle prime minister *sniffs*. Ugh, why, why must they always take out characters that I like? |
