It was previously highlighted in an interview with The Herald, that Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) did not know if he would be returning for ' Order of the Phoenix'.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times he explains that he's finished the Potter films that he signed up for.
“Well, it takes nine months to make a Potter movie,” Robbie says. “There’s not a lot else you can do. You can’t tell people to put their film on hold till you’re ready in September, it doesn’t work that way.
“I mean, I’m doing this play but that’s only three weeks. We’ll see what happens now that I’ve finished the Potter films. I signed for four and I’ve done them now. There’s no great mystery to these things.” What does this mean?
Basically, that Robbie, like most of the other adult actors, signed four-film contracts.
He has not stated whether he is or isn't doing OotP.
He's just saying that he's fulfilled his current commitment.

I'm having a blonde moment at the moment, so help me out. Does that mean if he is offered a role in OOTP, he will take it? I just cannot picture anyone else playing Hagrid, so I hope that's what he is meaning....

What he means is he signed a four-film contract. So far as I know, all the adult actors did that.
It doesn't mean he won't sign on for OotP if he was offered it, it just means he hasn't signed onto it yet. However in the earlier interview, he said he didn't know if he was going to be in it which has made me wonder whether Hagrid's getting the chop from OotP entirely.
Basically, he's saying he's done what he commited to, he's not obliged to do anymore unless he signs another contract.

So, he's done. No more? That's a bit sad, I quite liked him, he was perfect for Hagrid. They aren't going to be able and find a better Hagrid. Wow, this is our first very possible recast- hopefully there aren't anymore!

He's not confirmed he's not doing it. Just that he's unsure as to whether he or Hagrid returns and that he's fulfilled his initial commitment of 4 films.

awww i hope he does stay he's to good at Hagrid.
9 months :-o for a few hours film, thats like a loooooonnnnnnngggggg time lol. He doesn't need to work all 4 months though, justthe parts which hagrid is in. Which isnt a lot because hes out finding giants then comes back and then runs off thanks to Umbridge and her little minions.

Man do you realize how long it takes to do a car commerical? *ugh* you gotta love directing or you'll go nuts. I think if the trio remains then so will "hagrid" Like you said he wouldn't be filming much...seeing as how Hagrid didn't return to hogwarts til mid or a lil after mid part of the book.

I read somewhere that Robbie wouldn't want to return if the trio didn't 'cos it'd feel weird without Dan, Rupert and Emma as the trio and he couldn't start getting to know another 3 actors all over again!
So, if the trio go and Hagrid then the films will be completely different! 
I want everyone to stay, if possible, I mean if something happens sure we'll understand. I just hope all the original cast can stay on | |

This is gonna sound well cheesey but harry potter wouldent be harry potter without robbie and the trio because we all have them as fixed as the characters in head
I hope robbie stays on along with dan, emma & rupert it would feel weird without them

I just hope he does the other movies as well.I coudn't get used to the new Dumbledore...I doubt I'll get used to a new Hagrid. Anyways, I can't possibly imagine anyone who can bring the warmth of Hagrid in the character other than Mr. Coltrane!

This is definitely why I said we can't assume *anything* from the previous article. I'm glad Robbie has cleared that up a bit and just stated that he has finished his commitment. Hopefully he'll stay on as Hagrid, but we don't even know if they'll write Hagrid in.
