| | | Mary GrandPre talks Potter art
In an interview with Art Insights, Mary GrandPre (the U.S. Potter illustrator) talks about J.K.Rowling, her favourite cover and much more! Quote: Leslie: What part does J.K. Rowling play in all of this? Mary: She looks over the sketches, and puts her ideas, her two cents in. She has always been such a pleasure, very easy to work with, always right on board with everything we've done. Leslie: I'm sure lots of fans want to know, what was your favorite Harry Potter cover? Mary: (pause) I'd have to say Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (book 7). It was the most mature. It had this dramatic explosive point. I did love them all, but the last one was definitely my favorite.

The last one confuses me because it looks nothing like Hogwarts.

Originally Posted by EmmaRiddle The last one confuses me because it looks nothing like Hogwarts. I sort of agree with you. The ceiling does look accurately like a sky, however, she didn't make the windows look very much like windows. They sort of look like many arched doorways, leading to outside. So, that could have been better. But the way she portrayed Harry and Voldemort reaching for the wand which is just out of sight, is very cool... Other than the proportions on Voldemort's outstretched hand. But it truly is my favorite nonetheless.
And when you think of it, she couldn't make it look like Hogwarts, because the cover art would have given scenes away before the book was released. |

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

I do love how epic the cover for DH is, so I can understand why it's a favourite of hers.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Phineas Fischer Fourth Year | *snortles* MAMA!Shroom Well, I dunno. I think Harry gesturing to the sky and Voldy falling away in a heap was pretty explicit. It sort of looked like a Roman coliseum. Was the fight in the Great Hall?....
I would have to say that the OoTP cover is my favorite. I like blue

Deathly Hallows is my fave cover, followed very closely by Goblet of fire. I really like that one, I suppose because it's the most detailed harry face.

Oh, wow, I didn't even realise that the cover was meant to depict Hogwarts. I thought he they were in a colloseum somewhere (makes no sense, I know)...
I think that the British children's version was the best. Once you'd read the book, you could look back over it and realise all the places in the book the artist had taken inspiration from.
