| | | M. Night Shyamalan hot on Potter’s trail Sixth Sense film director M. Night Shyamalan, who, as we told you last week, regrets turning down the chance to direct Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, said in an interview yesterday that he’s eager to take the helm of the last HP film and already knows the type of feel he’d go for : Quote:
I want to see a serious emotional conflict, like if Ron goes to the wrong side. Power has such a double-edged sword. I want the audience to feel that for a moment.
In reference to comments he made last week about the HP material needing to be "handed over, adoption papers and everything," Shyamalan explained to TLC: Quote:
I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful ... There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota ... I would cherish it.

Eeeek! So excited! He would be perfect for an HP film. He is brilliant!!! His movies can be so dark, and that is just what the HP films need. They have always been dark but now more than ever as we get farther into the series. |

Interesting theory but I don't really see that happening, anyway he would be a marvelour director since he did the 6th sense movie and it was really touchy.

I can picture this... but then I'd prolly get very spooked. as i do with most his films. But I'll still go if he does or doesn't direct the films.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ottery St. Catchpole Gryffindor Third Year | Is everyone off their gourds or why Ottery should direct HP6 Paris & Kellybear r luv :Read Otty 's fics:Gone With the Wind:I♥Rupert I wouldn't want to direct book 7 because I want to give Rupert pointers on smooching Lav-Lav but I digress ... I don't think M. Night would work because ... well c'mon ... he's suspenseful I'll give him that (of course so was Hitchcock but he could write well too) ... I mean Bryan Singer can tell a good story grounded on characters. Gore Verbinsky *thanx Si* is good with action and like I said maybe Johnny Depp could show up that would be so cool ... And Peter Jackson is a true genius, something he displayed evidently and clearly in King Kong, which was a brilliant film without orcs. Personally I can't wait to see what else he's going to do next. EVANGELION Please! I wish ♥ I don't think he could handle the romantic aspect, and he's never adapted anything before by his own admission ... all the directors I've named have never done anything original that sounds worse than it is ... LOL Tarantino would rock for the violence but then all you kiddies couldn't go see it ... and he'd totally tweak the script and we couldn't quote Ron in the 7th film because they'd all start "!@*#@$%$!!$#%$# bloody hell ... " or something like that ... Have you all even seen Shyamalan's movies? He's a concept director. HP movies should be character films. Which is why PoA was brilliant ... GoF was spectacular but if Peter Jackson directed, it would be both. *fires the cannons*

Yes, that would be interesting. But see, the thing is, his movies are weird and disturbing. Think Harry Potter turning into like some weird version with things from the Lady in the Water. That'd be mucked up.
His fimls are okay, but soo not Harry Potter. I think its true taht he would stick to the book, but then he can't be himself when he makes it, and that would be weird.
So no, Mister Shyamalan, i would not enojy the movie if you made it, sorry. "pets* |

I don't think you could direct it well, an idea and a few off visuals do not a great director make ... and I'd like a cogent story too ...

Okay, he wants Ron to go to the dark side. To even think it means he's not my type of director. I liked him before but he's totally turned me off now. I don't want another director trying to destroy Ron's character. We have enough to deal with the screenwriter already. I hope he doesn't get it!

I like that he said that. If he does get the chance to helm HP, it would definitely be interesting. What I like about Potter is the emotional current that runs through the veins of the books, and it would take a really good director to balance that as well as the other elements that make up the HP world.
I'm just in a bit of conflict whether I want him to direct HBP or Book 7 in the end. He's got a reputation--not really a bad one, but I guess he has been sterotyped too much as a director of "weird/creepy" films. I don't want any of the HP movies to be branded that way, so as for Shyamalan helming any of the last films--we'll see. He does sound like he really, really wants it though.

| Seelow ☆ Overnight Celebrity ☆ Perky! ☆ Harley Quinn Heh I liked The Sixth Sense. Shymalan would give it the eerie feel of it but I think he'd need a co-director to handle other things.
You're weeelcome Ottery. *snuggles*
Verbinski would be perfect for HP. Look what he's done with PotC! I love his work.
I don't think Jackson will direct any HP movie ever because he did LoTR but he would be good for it.
Pfft I'll be old enough to go see movie 7 if Tarantino directs by then. I really want him to do it for the action scenes. Verbinski + Tarantino = perfect movie

I think that he would do well with the later books since they are darker.
I would love to see what he would do with them.
