M. Night Shyamalan hot on Potter’s trail

Sixth Sense film director M. Night Shyamalan, who, as we told you last week, regrets turning down the chance to direct Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, said in an interview yesterday that he’s eager to take the helm of the last HP film and already knows the type of feel he’d go for :

Quote:

I want to see a serious emotional conflict, like if Ron goes to the wrong side. Power has such a double-edged sword. I want the audience to feel that for a moment.
In reference to comments he made last week about the HP material needing to be "handed over, adoption papers and everything," Shyamalan explained to TLC:

Quote:

I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful ... There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota ... I would cherish it.

Cool! Perhaps he will be able direct another HP movie!

:jump: FIRST TO POST!!! :hello:

Disneymaniac 07-18-2006 06:23 PM

This is good. His work is quite good. Plus I think it would good for him to do the last one!

alyssa_hilary 07-18-2006 06:27 PM

Cool, I hope he gets the chance to do the 7th.

Raider 07-18-2006 06:27 PM

Honestly... I hope he doesnt. I dont like his movies much although The Sixth Sense was very good.

I've never thought he was that great a director, in truth I don't think Hollywood has any good directors outside of early 80's Spielberg (not now Spielberg) and Peter Jackson. Popular? Maybe but Alfred Hitchcock is dead and I don't think most of the kiddies would know Billy Wilder or John Huston ...

But yeah, after that Ron comment ... I think he should soak his head and the WB should hire Peter Jackson to direct, then at least we'd be guaranteed a three hour movie  and he's dealt with elves before ... :poke:

No Mr. Shyamalan, your stuff's too weird and not really that interesting. Go do a remake.

EDIT: Why don't we get the director for Pirates of the Carribbean or Superman Returns, or even Charlie's Angels ... then we'd get action ...

Okay so Tarantino and the guy who directed Superman are good too ... but that's it for directors oh, and McG.

harry__dan 07-18-2006 06:28 PM

hmmm he sounds nice. Well we'll see if he would get the last HP moveeeeeeeee

Lily Potter 07-18-2006 06:30 PM

I don't know, he might make it more scary than it is. He tends to make scary movies.

I agree completly.

*gasp* Why didnt I think of him before *headesk* Hes my favorite director!
*rallies for Pete Jackson to direct HP*

Padie 07-18-2006 06:39 PM

Well, I liked his films and he does seem to really like to direct the HP films so I wouldn't mind ^_^

Si 07-18-2006 06:52 PM

Shymalan would be good for the darkness of book 7 but if there's some fight scenes in that book, I demand Tarantino direct. They could co-direct but I doubt that will happen. It would be good for him to do HP, but I'm not too sure of his other works. The Sixth Sense was good but I hated The Village. I don't know where I stand on this. I want co-directors lol

EDIT: Gore Verbinski would be a great director for HP. If he can do PotC, he can do HP. I want him haha

Sama 07-18-2006 06:54 PM

*hmmmm* that'd be interresting....

daniel_radcliffe_fan_4eva 07-18-2006 06:56 PM

he seems quite keen to direct it and as long as he wants to make the film at least 3 and a half hours long he has my vote. :P

GryffindorGirl13 07-18-2006 07:00 PM

I think he would do a great job with the film. And I'm not suprised he's regretting not directing the first film either.

Blackened 07-18-2006 07:05 PM

Interesting, though I don't think that will happen. I do enjoy the way he talks about the possibility of directing a HP movie, however.

x*[.BooM.]*x 07-18-2006 07:06 PM

I think he would put a good edge to the movie if he were to direct it. And contrary to popular belief I thought The Village was pretty fricken gewd. And the Sixth Sense. I dunno, I think the movies lack a sinister feel, somethin edgy and heart stopping......he may well be the man to add that extra "oompff".

Epona 07-18-2006 07:18 PM

I really hope M. Night Shamalan soes direct a Harry Potter film. It would be an excellent movie.

Ginpotter 07-18-2006 07:25 PM

He want to direct HP7...I think he must think in HP6 first..

roxy<3hp 07-18-2006 07:27 PM

to bad he hasn't directed a hp film. I think it would of be intersting to watch. Maybe he will.

*harrypotter's girl* 07-18-2006 07:33 PM

That would be cool if he directed an HP film...I guess!!!!

I like his movies. I don't know about the romance part though. :erm:

ezzer123 07-18-2006 07:54 PM

I think he'd be gr8. Please can we have him?!

chowderHPfanatic 07-18-2006 08:03 PM

haha. he sounds a bit desperate for the job. although, who wouldnt?! haha.

mione_girlgwp 07-18-2006 08:18 PM

Cool beans! :) Maybe he will get it

siriusly_loving_gary 07-18-2006 08:18 PM

I think it'd be good if he directed the film. He'd make it as dark and creepy as it deserves to be.
