| | | JKR named one of '20 people who changed childhood' Child Magazine has announced their list of 20 People Who Changed Childhood. The list honors "innovators in the fields of education, entertainment, medicine, and more who forever altered what it means to be young in America." J.K. Rowling has been placed fifth and is credited with sparking a new interest in reading among kids. She appears with other names such as Walt Disney, The Beatles, Dr. Seuss, and Michael Jordan.
The article has this to say about Ms. Rowling: Quote:
J. K. Rowling
Before J.K. Rowling's bespectacled boy wizard went off to study at Hogwarts, some parents feared their kids would never enjoy reading. Once Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone hit U.S. bookstores in 1998, followed by five more installments, parents found their kids couldn't get enough of Rowling's fantasy adventure novels, some longer than 600 pages. To date more than 300 million Harry Potter books have sold worldwide; they crowded The New York Times bestseller list for so long that the newspaper created a separate children's list. "The Harry Potter books not only sparked an explosion of interest in reading," says Lisa Von Drasek, the children's librarian at the Bank Street College of Education in New York City, "they inspired kids to go out and discover other great books too."

| Ultimate Potterite Original original JKR did change childhood. We didn't have Harry Potter before her. Now little kids all know who Harry Potter is, and they actually enjoy reading (well, they enjoy reading more). JKR is awesome |

Thanks JKR for giving me a love for reading, AGAIN. I completely agree. I was tired of reading the same old books then HP came along and I got to be a kid again.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Natasha (Tasha) Jonelle Lundren Second | That is awesome! I used to love to read, and after High School, I didn't pick up a book, until HP. Now I have read all so far at least 3 times each. And I'm currently re-reading OotP for the fourth and It still brings me to tears when S. Black dies. I love Harry Potter. Now I look for more books all the time to read. Great Job JK!
