We previously told you that J.K.Rowling had won the title of 'Writer of the Year' at the 2005 Glamour awards. The magazine has now run a feature on the author entitled, 'The Billionaire Bookworm'. Quote:
JK Rowling, creator of global Harry Potter mania, is GLAMOUR's undisputed Writer of the Year.
"It was my life's ambition to see a book I'd written on a shelf in a book shop," says Joanne Rowling, author extraordinaire.
She's definitely achieved that - and then some. Once an unemployed single mother, she's the first person to become a billionaire from writing books (OK, it's in US dollars but it's a still a fortune!).
Yet she remains unaffected by her international fame, turning down interviews and starry invitations.
"I'm rarely recognised and I'm happy about that because I like anonymity," she says, making her priorities clear. "If I'm not looking after my children, spending time with friends or reading, writing is my greatest pleasure."
This year sees Joanne turning 40 and even more fabulous. As well as the birth of her third child, Mackenzie, in January, her book sales have hit the 270 million mark worldwide.
Her last book, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix', was the biggest selling book in Amazon.co.uk's history. And the latest installment 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' - due out in mid-July - has already notched up 200,000 pre-orders on the site.
Not bad for someone who says the magical character of Harry, "Just strolled into my head".

| I have that magazine. I got it last week, well my sister did but it's mine now. Hahaha. Seriously my sister gives me all of her magazines after she reads them. I'm just too cheap to buy magazines myself. |

interesting remark in the article:
"she's the first person to become a billionaire from writing books (OK, it's in US dollars but it's a still a fortune!).
I am from the US and I find that statement hillarious and humbling.

I love reading interviews/articles etc with her in it, coz she just seems like such a 'real' person and hasn't let it go to her head.

if i was a pro writer i'd definately stay out of the public too.
i'd wanna write the best i could without the distraction of interviews and parties.
it is good though that she doesn't get recognised much. i don't know if i could handle the pressure. and i suspect it helps with family life by not having paparazi following everywhere you go.
