Last night at the Pride of Britain awards J.K.Rowling paid tribute to all the young achievers being celebrated for their extraordinary feats. Quote:
She said: "I just found out I'm getting an award and I'm absolutely shell-shocked.
"It's lovely but it's important to celebrate those people who make such a difference, the ones who really make the world a better place.
"People like me, even though it happened entirely accidentally, get their rewards and it's only right and proper that there's an awards ceremony to recognise those people who don't.
"I think it's important to come along. Children don't get awards very often."
The ceremony will be aired on ITV1 tonight from 9pm (BST). UPDATE: Further reports indicate this should be a very moving show, so get out your tissues if you plan to watch it. J.K. Rowling cried several times throughout the evening, as I’m sure many in attendance did as well. Quote:
Harry Potter author JK Rowling broke down at the Pride of Britain Awards on Oct 9, while presenting Megan Blunt with her Child of Courage Award.
Wiping her tears, the best-seller author praised the 15-year-old cancer survivor, who has written a book to motivate other children living with the disease.
"I want to give you this and I want to say if ever a book changed lives, it's yours," the Mirror quoted Rowling, as stating at the awards ceremony.
Rowling burst into tears again when the star of Harry Potter film series, Emma Watson presented the writer with her own Special Recognition Award.
"I'm a complete wreck, I've been crying since the baby on the plane (the first award of the night). I don't think I've ever been in such illustrious company as I have tonight," Rowling said.
