| | | J.K.R. says no to HP e-books
Lawyers for J.K. Rowling state that the HP author does not want Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. nor any of the HP series, available online in book format. This is mainly due to theft concerns ( Half-Blood Prince was posted online by pirates within half a day of its release), but also because Rowling prefers printed books. Quote:
Rowling has publicly stated her partiality for writing and reading works on paper rather than on-screen. In interviews, Rowling repeatedly confirms that she wrote the entire Harry Potter series longhand, and that she prefers her readers to "experience the books on paper."

I agree with her. I don't it's fair for the readers to do those stuff online when she is busy with the writing. Go J.K. Rowling~

Hogwarts RPG Name: Professor McFarlane Graduated | IndyEddie So much for 'saving the environment', eh, JK? Yes, recyled paper is a start, but if she wanted to make an even bigger difference, then she'd be willing to do ebooks. (please note, that is my opinion, and I do not represent the site or any of the staff on the site.) Quote: I'm so with her, why anyone would want to read anything on-line is beyond me but Those who read Fan-Fiction, for a start.
Those with online classes
Everyone on this site. Quote: but ... really, shouldn't that be the reader's choice Agreed. Whole heartedly. Quote:
I don't feel as though there is anything wrong with E-books actually, as long as they are properly paid for, but she is kidding herself if she thinks that by avoiding e-books she will avoid people illegally downloading it. That's just the way some people are.
I concur, and know the last. The books are still being made available through Audio format....those are downloaded just as easily, probably more so, illegally. I know at least one person who downloaded the audio books without paying for it (but I can't prove it), as for ebooks....I don't know anyone who's stolen those.
But, I have to say, even if it were downloadable/ebook formatting, I'd still get the book. I had an ebook on my PDA once (Came with it o.O) and I couldn't stand it. A book is the binding of a story and it's just.......right.

very much agreed! but this is just my opinion 'kay? Real books are more portable and when i get a HP book in my hand it goes with me everywhere. and i do mean everywhere. Also... this may sound odd. But i like smell of a brand new book. or an old one. I just like the smell of books. Odd i know.... and i like... i dunno just the paper okay. yeah. i cant explain it at all. Iif i ever become a published author (I REALLY hope i do) then i'll probally give my readers a choice.... but w/e works for JKR. She wrote it after all, it should be HER decision. Not the reader's; hers.

I think we should have the choice but it's her decision. It doesn't really matter to me. People will download the illegal ones anyway.

She's stated this before over and over again. I can understand her reasoning but, it really is inconvenient for those of us who would more than gladly purchase BOTH printed and digital copies. It would be really nice to be able to carry around the entire series, along with the dozens of other books I own in digital format, in my pocket. It's also a lot easier to read from my palm pilot than a book with a toddler running around (I lose my place all the time with printed books) or while feeding an infant.

I agree that a computer screen is just not the same as having a book in your hands. I totally support JKR! Book stealing is also really wrong! On the other hand, i'd hate to see ppl who don't read books but do read ebooks deprived of her work. But i guess life is a give and take and ill support her whatever she chooses!

I'm sorry i like J.k Rowling and everything, but the only reason she doesn't want books to be available on the internent, is because she'll lose money, because then people won't buy the books if they are available online-think about it!!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Elijah Black Sixth Year | Chair Spinner I agree with Jo and yeah so shes using her head and profiting as much as she can for her family. I think shes doing the right thing everyone has the right to live as they see fit and not as how others want them to live. so if Jo thinks she wants to protect her investment, here is too her a smart and women and only because of that briliance, wit, and skill with a pen and words she has we are able to experiance Potter and his World.

Actually, they have many more ways of preventing e-book thefts than audio theft, so I wonder why she released on downloadable audio. In fact, I know Whitewolf encodes something into their ebooks that if one is found online, the person who let it slip can and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I do wish that she'd at least release on PDA format. I love having books I can download on PDA, and read without having to lug around a huge book. My husband and one of my friends both like the tactile sensations of reading a book, but it's just not efficient in my eyes, which is what I prefer.

she made the right choice, theives... i hate theives, they are rude and mean and steal other peoples work like it doesn't cost anyone to do so, i'm glad Jo made this decision. plus, you can take a book in the car to read, and you can't take a computer. |

When I first read Half blood prince it was in my computer ..I admit...the rest is strictly confidential....but
later my sis brought the book at a reasonable price for us...it is a win and win situation..we both benefited from both of them...this is my opinion though...
But what J.K rowling trying to say,is correct...paper is much better than screen...you dont need to strain your eyes in front of the computer all day...
