In a new interview with Times Online, Helen McCrory talks about the various acting jobs she's had during her career, including that of Narcissa Malfoy in Half-Blood Prince. Helen briefly talks about her character's fashionable costumes in the sixth film: Quote:

Humm...well i'm planning to be a costume designer when i finish university and what she was wearing in the pics the other day looked good but then again they weren't very clear, so i guess i'll wait and see!  But i've never been disapointed yet with Potter costumes!

She was pregnant and could not be Bellatrix because of some of the minor stunt roles. The insurance company for the film would not cover her because she was pregnant. I read all that bit in an interview w/ her. You would expect her costumes to be quite glamourous as the Malroys are moneyed folk. Deatheaters, yes, but also wealthy.
