| | | Harry Potter vs. King Kong vs. Narnia - Box Office 2005
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has blown away all compition in the Box Office. It is currently at the number two spot for the "franchise" (Jo hates that it is called that) behind Sorcerer's Stone - which no Harry Potter film will likely beat.
An interesting chart to watch is the Goblet vs Kong vs Narnia chart over at BoxOfficeMojo.com. It shows that although Goblet had the lowest budget of the three (a massive $150 mill) it looks like neither competing film will catch up with it.
I find it interesting that over 65% of Goblet's worldwide total comes from outside the USA. Compare that to Narnia's less-than-half.
The Hollywood Reporter (via Yahoo! News) reports... Quote:
Warner Bros. Pictures started out 2005 with Oscar gold as "Million Dollar Baby" was crowned best picture, and it finished the year with plenty of hard cash thanks to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, "Batman Begins" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
The trio each earned more than $200 million at the domestic box office, powering the studio to first place in the year-end derby with a company record $1.37 billion in sales, just $13.5 million ahead of Fox. All told, Warners' share of the domestic market was 15.6% vs. Fox's 15.4%.
Warners also led the international box office race, reaping more than $1.7 billion, the studio's second-best haul.
The fourth Harry Potter movie, directed for the first time by a British filmmaker, Mike Newell, proved that the series is only improving as its teen protagonists age; sales to date stand at $277 million.
"With each successive movie, and successive book, you continue to build a fan base," says Warners president of production Jeff Robinov. "So there's people who have seen all four movies and who have not read the books, and you have those that have read all or some. It's gained its own momentum."

that is so great. i really enjoyed the book on Goblet of Fire, and i really enjoyed the movie. but then my friend didnt. and that is what i agree with her. even though the movie was pretty long they left out a lot of stuff. stuff that would actually bring excitement to the movie. i just really glad that it is up there in the box office |

I find it interesting that over 65% of Goblet's worldwide total comes from outside the USA. Compare that to Narnia's less-than-half. All this focus on the money the movie is making is sad, I think, no one's talking about the quality of the movies or anything like that, because in the long run no one remembers the box office numbers for The Wizard of Oz, or The Godfather, but dang if they're not brilliant films... *fires the cannons* Besides, next year Superman comes out and that's going to blow these numbers away, and then who cares because something else will come out and blow those numbers away and then who cares...and so on ad infinitum. Star Wars probably has the biggest movie numbers, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the last three released really sucked. LOL So what I'm trying to say here is, let's look at what's truly important... Put Rupert in a bathtub like Dan and you'll see box office numbers shattering...LOL You gotta love those fangirls...LOL The only one's who should care are the shareholders of Warner Brother's stock...LOL

Wow! That's really impressive!!! Though I don't think any movie could beat SS/PS if one of them had to it would be number 7 I mean by then it will probably have 10x the number of fans it has now!!!! GoF is totally awsome tough!!!!!!!!

Wow, that's cool! Chronicles of Narnia is really good, though. Really good how GoF has brought in more $$!

I liked King Kong more than GOF, but I liked GOF more than Narnia. All 3 films are excellent. I was kind of disappointed with Narnia though. It wasn't as action-packed as I had expected/hoped.
Edit: I thought Star Wars Episode 3 was great too. Almost as good as the original three.

Sales to date stand at $277 million....OMG !
I thought that Narnia was good but they hyped it up way way to much for what it actually turned out to be. King Kong was 3 hours long...um,yeah..it was good but if I had to pick out of the three the first would be HP4,then KingKong and then Narnia.
I went to see Goblet 9 times..I wouldnt do the same for the later two movies(and I'm a fan of The Chronicles..well,the books at least..even though Will Moseley is a hottie)
