Today - October 4th - everyone's favorite Transfiguration Professor, Gryffindor Head of House and Headmistress, Minerva McGonagall, celebrates her birthday. For those who have had access to Pottermore, McGonagall's full backstory was revealed, including the fact that she was a half-blooded daughter of a Muggle minister and witch. After her exceptional tenure at Hogwarts as a student and Quidditch player, McGonagall got a job at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement before becoming Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts. Minerva was the eldest of three children, and a widow, as her husband, Elphinstone Urquart, died three years into their marriage.
Professor McGonagall is played by the wonderful Maggie Smith in all of the films to date.  Happy Birthday, Minerva!
