Post 'GOF' Passes 'POA' at the Box Office

'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' has now surpassed 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' in U.S. box office receipts. After only 5 weeks in the theaters, GOF has grossed $252.5 million, whereas POA took in $249.5 million after it's 17 weeks in theaters. In fact, GOF is on it's way to passing the current HP movie leader Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets which grossed $261.9 million during it's run time.

Worldwide, GOF has made $707.9 million and should also overtake POA, which made $789.7 million in worldwide receipts.

You may view HP box office figures here.

Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

WHHHHOOOOOOT! Congrads GOF! I think as more HP movies are released the more popular it gets.

Awesome, but let's keep in mind that PoA was released at the wrong moment (summer holidays), it's always more quite then when a film is released around xmas...
Not really. Summer and Christmas are the two biggest release times for cinema.

Exactly love. You just made their point. HP has more competition in the summer than in the fall, that's a given. You might have more time to see it over the summer...but why? Every week brings a slew of new releases. The fall is always better...especially for book movies...*points to CoN & King Kong* See? Kong would have done better in the summer. And CoN is raking in the dough like GoF is doing.

HP is not a witless summer film, so I have to agree it was released at the wrong time. Stupid WB people. I swear...if you'd gotten Jerry Bruckheimer and thrown in a lot of explosions maybe...

But the real reason GoF is making more money? Dan in the tub (you know those crazy fangirls), and the Dragons didn't hurt either (that's for the guys), and for me? Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupeeeeeeeeeeeeeert *madglomps Ru*

Oh cool! that's awesome! didn't POA beat out Titanic, which brought in the most money in the box office? Or maybe that was something else....
